VERY disappointed with a recent visit, especially in light of the recent positive ratings. First, loved the ambience and the vibe of the place. We were quickly seated for our reservation, and immediately served a bowl of warm bread which was REALLY good (in-house made I presume). It kind of went downhill from there. I ordered an Old Fashioned signature cocktail to start. Now let me ask you cocktail experts....what bartender serves a classic cocktail like this in a glass filled with crushed ice??? By the time I took my second sip, the drink tasted watered down. My wife and I then split a Kale Salad as an appetizer. Not only was the salad of a weird "room temperature", but the kale was tough and tasted well, old! Next, my wife ordered the NY Strip medium rare...it came medium well. The Lemon/Pepper Fries it came with were way over salted. The waiter did offer to bring a new one, but we politely rejected. I ordered the short ribs, which I will say was quite good, although I would have liked to have seen a bit more "sauce". We skipped dessert/Coffee. Fantastic first visit to Bora in the Stony Hill section of Bethel Ct. From the warm greeting by our waitress Nicole to the well spaced timings of the courses we ordered we felt well cared for and welcome. Cocktails were fun and inventive. Oysters on half shell fresh and beautifully presented. Then came the fresh bursts on Arugula. Heaven! All wine bottles were on a 50% Sunday nite discount so we splurged. Delicious Cali Sauvignon that was light and well balanced complimented our Shrimp and Crab over fresh linguine. Had to have dessert- crème brûlée was exceptional Vanilla Gelato for hubby and a perfect espresso to finish the meal. We are so going back read more

The food was amazing and the staff was very nice. with that said there were some drawbacks, the kitchen was super slow, we weren't served our main (and only) course for almost 45 minutes. We also made reservationa and we're seated right by the front door which was super drafty so I had to keep my coat on. I would have hoped that guests with reservations would receive better treatment. there have been several restaurants in this location and nobody can get the entry door right. you walk inside and have to wait to be seated in the main walkway for the wait staff and you are practically on top of diners. Came here for a work party. The atmosphere and service were really great. I got the braised short ribs, French onion soup and the tiramisu. Everything was delicious. I especially loved the brussels sprouts that came with the short ribs. I would definitely come back here again, especially for a special occasion. read more

My husband and I waited for 45 minutes for my hors deouvre. My husband waited another 20 minutes for his steak, after talking with the person in charge, who was useless and called this "fine dining"! After three visits, I can confidently say this place is a keeper. Atmosphere and decor are wonderful, and unlike so many new places the acoustics are great, with carpet tiles and lots of varied surfaces. Service is excellent as well, with plenty of attentive and well-trained staff, competent and prompt but not over-solicitous or cringey-infantile. The food ranges from very good to OMG. First time, I had a caesar and some pasta dish, both excellent. Second time I had halibut with lobster gnocchi, the best thing I've eaten in many months, with a very good onion soup starter. Third time a branzino special - not as mind-blowing as the halibut, but very good. Food temperature has been good every time. The apple crumble dessert is to die for, and they know how to make coffee. read more

Manager initially said it was because they put in their apps order and entree at the same time; so did we. Had enough and decided to leave after being there 1.5 hours. The second time we went with another couple; it was very crowded and everything, from food to service, was still top notch. Bora Restaurant in Bethel has the attributes that we look for - nice ambiance but not overly formal, attentive wait staff, and - most importantly - good food at a reasonable price. We have been long time customers at the owners other restaurant - Barnwood Grill in Newtown. The food service and cocktails at Barnwood have always been consistently good, so when we realized that there was a new option from the same owner - we tried it. The menu at Bora is more limited, but the food (including the seafood) is every bit as good, and a little lower in price. Service is top notch. We started with an appetizer (split the Calamari). My wife had the Salmon and I had the Shrimp and Crab over pasta. Both dishes were very good - no compliants. We will defintley go back soon read more

Been 3 times so far. Each time the staff, drinks, food and service has been phenomenal. The only reason I do not give Bora 5 stars has to do with the red wine. Each time I have ordered a bottle, the temperature of the wine is too high. I suggest they store the red wine bottles in a more temperature controlled area of the establishment. Had a small retirement party this past Sunday and was very pleased with all aspects of Bora. The staff was very welcoming and our waiter helped hang a few decorations celebrating the event. Everyone in the party ordered off the brunch menu and everyone enjoyed their dishes. The price for the portion and quality was more than fair. I had the eggs Benedict and it was excellent The highlight of day was our waiter (Yev). He was personable, engaged and prompt. He was attentive without being intrusive (if you know what l mean) he wasn't stepping in interrupting conversations, he has a great sense of humor. He was also our bartender and he made very good cocktails, we had bloody Mary's, espresso martinis and chocolate martinis and they all contained what I thought was the proper amount of alcohol...he didn't pour like I was at a frat party!! It was just really nice to have a server who takes pride in his job and wants to give you the best experience. He was also professional enough to point out that given the size of our party, tip was added in, I appreciated everything he did to make our day memorable and we were happy to supplement the 20%! To be honest, the place doesn't look like much from the outside, but the inside is very warm and inviting and tastefully decorated. I really wanted to love this place. We loved the food and the ambiance of the old Prime Pub. We were so in love with the menu that rarely changed there. So onto the review of Bora. My go to for any restaurant are fish tacos. Regardless of the fish, mahi, tuna or any other fish the chef decides will work. Cooked correctly, they are all good. It's my go to because you can get a feel for the freshness of the food, as well as the touches the chef can add to bring it to another level. My goodness how I was so turned off by their Mahi Tacos. The corn tortilla was stale and over heated that it flaked apart in my hand. It was inedible. The fish? Was there actual any Mahi in there? It was just such a mess. I ordered another Tito's to relax me and just to keep me from throwing this garbage back into the kitchen. So why 2 stars? The help was phenomenal. The ambiance was perfect. That's why. A poor service for ok food with hefty check! so disappointed. this restaurant opened recently and would like to pass as a high end restaurant. The dishes are pretty highly priced and with the poor experience we had will certainly not return. The food took more than 1 hour to come and this for only 4 plates out of 7. The waiter was not professional, although cannot be blamed as was so young... he pointed at me with his pen asking "you?" when taking my order! he crossed over guests to give dishes that were for the other side of the table. We were a table of 7 with 3 starving teens. one of them after 1 hour asked the waiter when the food would arrive et replied in a minute and we waited another 20min for 4 dishes to arrive...still missing 3 salads. 2 arrived within 10 minutes... out of the 4 - 1 medium rare burger was so cooked it was beyond well done. 1 risotto was over cooked by far (couldn't detect rice anymore) with oily spinach, and barely warm chicken... then the last Caesar salad arrived once someone from our table got up to complain! This after I tried to get someone's attention... she smiled and turned around to avoid me... when it arrived, the last Romain salad was with sous vide chicken and hardly chopped large tough pieces of salad... they did not charge us for the salad and offered the desserts, however for a total bill of more than $200 without tips, with 1 dish not counted and free desserts... this is not of the expected standard. If you want to pretend to be high end, at least train your staff, get a proper chef and maybe prepare the cold salads first and then serve the hot food... . this restaurant has to aim higher if they want to maintain their prices. customers are not just stupid cash dishing out punters! read more
