Firstly, make sure you make reservations! The restaurant is really small, roughly 10 tables. It's located off a main road so it's easy to miss/drive past if you're going too fast. They do have a small parking lot though which is a plus. Upon entering we were greeted by the hostess who was very sweet. We did arrive almost an hour before our reservation time, but we were seated immediately. At around 8pm you could tell it starts to get busy. They have a full bar area also. We sat down and we were offered a hot pepper, which I thought was a very nice touch. They also brought out bread and butter to the table which was delicious. For appetizer we ordered the Cesar salad. This is made table side and can be customized. The flavor was good, however the portion was very small. We also ordered a side of mashed potatoes. They were good but could have used a little seasoning, such as salt or pepper. For dinner we ordered the chicken francese, which was served over potatoes and some broccoli/carrots. The flavor was pretty good. The chicken was thick/tender. I just wish they would have put more sauce in the plate. The chicken was decently moist but there was no additional juice to dip into. For dessert we ordered the tartufo, and the ricotta cheesecake. The tartufo was really good. The cheesecake was okay. We ordered a regular hot coffee, and an espresso. The hot coffee tasted very watered down, the espresso was good. I would definitely recommend this place. The food was pretty good and the service was exceptional. read more

We love coming here. The food is delicious. We've tried the steak, the fish, the chicken. Tonight we came in just for some appetizers and it was delicious. They never fail to impress. The staff is always friendly, helpful, and always willing to work with me and make adjustments on my meals for the allergies. We like to sit at the bar most of the time and the bartender is amazing and has a wonderful personality. My husband tonight had calamari and then had pasta with clams in a white wine sauce and I had oysters and then had a cold seafood salad. Superb!!! They have valet if you wish to use it. What a really nice authentic restaurant! I was surprised how good and flavorful the food was, and even how nice it looks inside. You're almost transported to about part of the world. The food was soooo good. The branzino was beautifully cooked and filleted table side. Did I mention the flavors were incredible? We discovered this place while looking for a sit-down pizzeria that used to be at the same address, and while we were sad at its loss, Castello is a net gain. It's a bit on the fancy side, but the food is up to snuff and a nice surprise this deep into the outer 'burbs (Danbury is the terminus for a branch of the Metro North). The Carpaccio de Manzo was tasty, and my Swordfish steak was not overcooked, which is a rarity and appreciated. Food was well-presented and delicious. This is one of my favorite restaurants in the entire area. Must have passed it countless times before deciding to finally try it a year or two ago. Now I come here as much as I can. A tad pricey, but well worth it for what you get. Great for special occasions. Castello has the perfect mixture of everything: the restaurant is cozy with a distinct Italian feel, the servers have a great attitude and sense of humor, and the food is fantastic. I have yet to eat a meal that I haven't enjoyed. You would be making a mistake to prejudge it based on the less-than-appealing appearance of the brick exterior. One of the things that sets this restaurant apart from others is that they prepare several dishes tableside. The Cesar salad, the Bronzino, and the flambé are just a few meals that they prepare right at your table. It's interesting to watch what goes into preparing these dishes. You just don't see this at any other restaurants around here and it's an enjoyable experience every time. My favorite dish hands-down is the Bronzino. I don't particularly enjoy fish in general, but this is the best fish dish I've ever tasted anywhere. It's worth noting that 75% of the other people in the place tonight had it too. They know the secret! I've had it about half a dozen times, prepared very consistently, and the sauce they put on it is to die for. One little note about this dish is that it is generally not on the menu. It's almost always listed as a special, but on a couple occasions they didn't make it a special either. However, if they've got it in the back and you ask for it, they'll make it for you. Another great thing about this place is that it's a family-owned restaurant, and you can clearly see and taste the level of attention and care they put into running this place. They are just a great bunch of folks and they always make me laugh with the little stories and anecdotes they tell in passing. I looked forward to Mother's Day dinner with my family and was so disappointed. The filet mignon was so salty. It tasted like it was seasonned again after it was cooked with a salt and pepper crust. So double salted. I wanted to order something else after I sent it back but was so disappointed that I lost my appetite. My family felt so bad they just wanted to get out of the restaurant, so we didn't stay for dessert (which was included in the price).No one came to our table and apologized for the meat or offered to give us the dessert to take home. read more

Unassuming interior, but fabulous food, and wonderful service by the two sons of the chef- owner. Cacio e Pepe is prepared table-side from a wheel of pecorino romano. The halibut was delicate with nice color served in a flavorful lemon butter sauce. Appetizers were also wonderful. Our one letdown was that the tiramisu was made this morning and needed more time to set; next time. Instead, "settled" for the Italian cheesecake and the hazelnut cake, the latter, dark, rich, creamy and airy. The cheesecake was light, lemony and delicious. Excellent family owned classic southern Italian food experience! We really enjoyed this place. Our waiter was the owners oldest son who was delightful, competent and friendly. He helped us with the menu and steered us perfectly including a nice Sangiovese wine to go with dinner. All the food was tasty and almost perfectly prepared- my rating is higher than a 4 but short of a 5 so I settled on a 4. I would love to go back here. The Caesars Salad was superbly prepared table side with all fresh ingredients including a fresh egg. My only quibble was not enough croutons. We had Rigatoni Bolognese (perfect) and veal scaloppini with artichokes and white wine (melt in your mouth). All was delicious! We ended with a nice cannoli made from scratch that was perfect as well. read more

I had passed this place more times than I could count, but just assumed it was a very expensive restaurant, so I always just kept going. My daughter ate here at a party, and told me how good the food was. So, when I saw their coupon on Local Flavor, I decided to try them. The food was very good, and the service was as well. They were very attentive, and made sure we liked everything. They put a bread basket and a butter mixed with what I think was sun dried tomatoes and red peppers on the table. We started off sharing the fried calamari. The breading was light, and tasty. The sauce that came with it was outstanding. Of course, there was not a crumb left. I had the Veal Saltimbocca as my main course. The veal was pounded so thinly, and was soft and tasty. It has a thin slice of prosciutto on top of each cutlet, which gave them a nice salty element. The sherry sauce was delicious. The vegetables were nice and garlicky, and yummy. My daughter had the Veal Sette Collie. Her veal was also pounded nice and thin, and was soft and tasty. She loved the artichokes, and the lemon, wine, caper sauce. Her vegetables were also garlicky and yummy. We shared the chocolate lava cake with ice cream, for dessert. The cake was warm and gooey, and the vanilla ice cream went well with it. We will definitely go back here. It is a great Italian restaurant. We highly recommend this place. read more

My girlfriend and I tried this restaurant because we had a gift certificate. I've been driving by this place for years and never thought to stop and try. I'm happy we had a reason to go. The decor of the restaurant is somewhat dated. We were seated promptly on a Friday evening. There is no hostess so we aimlessly walked into the bar area and asked a passing waitress for a table. The hostess graciously seated us, however she neglected to give us menus when we took our seats. She did take our drink orders though. After the drinks came we were still without menus. I had to call the attention of a waiter to ask for a menu. The food was actually quite good. I had the Chicken Francese and my girlfriend had the Penne a la Vodka. We started with a table side prepared caesar salad which was fantastic. Overall the food was quite delicious. I would say the the decor needs updating both inside and outside. Service could be improved as well. There is no reason to wait 5-10 mins for a menu. I hope to return in the future and try additional entrees. read more

We had to ask for the menu and had to order drinks twice before getting them. But the dinner made us quickly forget the poor service...
