Our favorite Korean BBQ restaurant in Houston. We took our neighbor's family here for dinner tonight (6 total). It's probably our 5-6th time here in the last 11 months. We ordered the XL butcher's cut meat combination along with a couple of steamed eggs side dishes along with a seafood pancake and a kimchi pancake. All the food was very good to great. In Los Angeles, there are other restaurants on par with Bori but we haven't found anything in Houston that matches Bori's food as well as the high-end decor. The service was okay as some of the cocktail orders took a very long time to get back (they said they were backed up at the bar). The only "weird" part of the dinner was that the manager came and told us we had to leave the table after 2 hours (they said they told us that when we made the reservation which my wife said they never mentioned), but they were nice about it and gave us a private side room (no grills so could not accommodate other diners that wanted to grill meats) for the rest of the night. We were still drinking at the table so wasn't like we were just loitering. Again, a bit strange but thought they handled it well. I'm sure we'll be back soon. read more

Coming here again this spot is definitely a 5 star spot. The service was really good this time and all the food hit the spot. Their beef belly is so tender and the cold noodle is a must have. Well, this is my favorite Korean place in Houston. I have dined here a dozen times with friends and family, and everyone loves it! They give you fresh sesame (perilla) leaves, green leafy lettuce, and traditional sauce to make wraps! Delicious. Went for a birthday meal with a group of Koreans last Saturday. The restaurant is beautiful and makes you feel like you've been transported to another place. There is an art gallery and the grounds are impeccable. First impression of the service was not that great. Our server provided us drink recommendations and we took them. One of the drinks (the mule) had a funny taste so we asked to switch. Her response was "I have to check with the manager". Huh? They ended up changing it but it was an awkward exchange to start off the night. The lychee martini was not too sweet but we ended up sticking with beer and soju the rest of the night. The dining room is LOUD. It's hard to have conversation. We weren't bothered as we are LOUD too. The food is not good. There were some stars but they didn't make up for the overall blandness of the food. The good things were the meat (we did a combination) but it is expensive! The kimchi pancake was the star of the visit! The seafood one was too thick but was actually cooked really well and was crispy. The banchan (if you could call it that) was a few pieces of random stuff that had no flavor or was just lacking something. The Doenjang-jjigae was watery. We would have just done a bunch of lettuce wraps but their samjang was bland??? How do you mess up samjang??? Basically everything needed a little bit more of salt or flavor. This cost over $300. We ended up going to a pocha and eating afterwards if that says anything. Go to Karne if you want Korean BBQ at this price. read more

My daughter and her friend wanted Korean BBQ and I had heard about Bori and we wanted to try. Nice secure fenced parking lot. Elegant entrance with restaurant to the right, outside dining on patio and art gallery on left. Several small private (4 - 8 people) dining rooms in the back. We are in the main inside dining room at it has a hip (not too hip) and stylish vibe. Great service from the moment you walk in. Appropriate pandemic precautions in place including temp checks. Food is the main attraction. The NY strip and filets look to be prime USDA quality. Sides are interesting, delicious and generous. Preparation is professional table side and what I would imagine if I were in a nice restaurant in Seoul. Wine, cocktail and beer list is impressive and what you would expect from a high end restaurant. I am a wine lover but ordered the ice cold tap Ichiban that paired so good with the Bori flavor. Came to celebrate my dad's birthday on a Tuesday night. They were pretty busy despite the fact that it was a weekday, but our server--Kevin--was great. He was so helpful with the menu and was able to cook our meat for us to order. We got the Butcher's Feast which came with several cuts of meat. BORI is not what it once was. Either my standards have at quadrupled or both the selection and marination have deteriorated since the pandemic. To be on the humble side, I think it's the latter. Restaurants of all calibers have found insidious ways of price hiking in hopes of recovering from these ridiculous inflated prices. Beautiful restaurant, good quality cuts, but the server ruined our experience. (This was a couple months ago) Let me just say that the restaurant is gorgeous - my family and I enjoyed the set up. The meat looked delicious and there were a variety of side dishes we really liked too. We were super excited to dig in and started putting meat on our grill. Our server came over and motioned for me to give her the tongs, and she started to cook for us. Anytime I tried to handle the tongs or the meat on the grill, she would come by, take the tongs from me, and cook for us. She made us feel like we were not supposed to be cooking for ourselves, which isn't a problem BUT she was cooking everything well-done. At one point she flipped our meat and disappeared for a long time, and the meat started to smoke. I want to take it off of the grill, but remembered how she would take the tongs and scissors out of my hands anytime I touched them. She proceeds to walk past the table several times, not noticing once that the meat is literally starting to burn. A bus boy sees the smoke from across the restaurant, and comes to turn off the grill. He grabs our server, she sees the blackened & charred meat... AND SERVES IT. She cuts it up, and puts it onto our plates. Doesn't even say anything, and walks away. I feel as though that she should've provided a simple explanation at the beginning of service like "We prefer to cook for our customers, feel free to sit back and relax." or "Although we would like to cook for you, feel free to also cook the meats as you see fit." Rather than silently take away my tongs any time I tried to handle the food myself then proceed to overcook everything and then serve us literally black pieces of burnt meat. You're paying a premium to enjoy high-quality cuts, I paid a premium to have a server overcook and burn those cuts. Very disappointed. this place is more like 4.5 out of 5 stars. I went down to houston to visit a friend, and he told me that this one was of the better/best korean bbq joints in all of houston. Its not the AYCE type of korean bbq, everything is a la carte here. I forgot types of meats we ordered, since my korean friend did all the ordering, but i remember everything was fantastic. There was one thing i requested and it was the Naengmyeon (korean cold noodles) and the soup base was so good, i didn't need to add in the extra flavor/sauce they provided. on a hot day, i definitely recommend getting a bowl of cold noodles. The quality of meat were superb, and they'll cook everything for you. The banchan were also great. pretty sure you could ask for more banchan, but not sure if they'll charge extra? I highly recommend calling ahead and making a reservation. From what my Korean-American friends have relayed, Houston doesn't have many if any KBBQ spots that can rival the likes of LA or even Dallas, which lay claim to far higher populations of Korean descent. Really my only experience here has been the ever-popular Gen, which apparently is owned by a Chinese company and always leaves me full, sure, but generally unimpressed. Enter Bori, which is well worth the drive out to the Spring Branch West area. The building and grounds are dazzling, between the adjacent Peace Garden, to the clean and spacious interior, to the free walk-in art gallery, currently featuring dozens of museum-quality paintings by Korean artist Dae-Duck Cha. Consider this a much classier and polished alternative to the clubby Gen. Both times I stopped by, my group picked the large Butcher's Feast, which nets you 5 different premium cuts of your choosing. The service is very professional, and the philosophy seems to be that they are there to make your experience as seamless as possible, not to be your friend. Makes sense, since they are the ones cooking and turning the meat for you at the table. The suction power of the hoods was top of the line and pretty much kept all the smoke out of our eyes and throats. One drawback was that my Seoul Fashion with rye whiskey and a ginger soju, despite the fantastic name, was extremely unbalanced and not especially enjoyable. The beef and pork had great variety of favor and chew, with all of us agreeing that the marinated cuts like the short rib were by far the tastiest. The pork belly was incredible as well. Note that most of the dry cuts are sans salt, and you will want to make liberal use of the accompanying condiments, such as the pungent, zippy, and sweet ssamjang (like a funky BBQ paste with fermented soybean, gochujang, and garlic). Make a wrap with some traditional perilla leaves if you want an added almost minty freshness to the mix. Corn cheese, soufflé-like steamed egg, and kimchi stew are complimentary throw-ins (part of the "banchan" or side dishes), but don't hesitate to further clutter your table with side plates like the deliciously chewy and savory seafood pancake, pasta salad, and fried rice. I totally recommend Bori if you are in the mood for Korean food. Service here has always been amazing. I've been here many times before and I just keep forgetting to check in to write a review. The atmosphere is very friendly and open area. There's an art gallery and a VIP area for large reservations which is separate form the main seating so you get less sound pollution. There are a lot of things here I would recommend, but to keep it simple here are a few items I personally enjoy! As a starter you should try out the Seafood pancake (Appetizer) is very comforting and enjoyable. The dish comes with a sauce which compliments the dish very well. With your order, the table will get a large assortment of Side dishes. I almost always go for the Salad and the Kimchi here, but try these out with your order. It's supposed to accommodate the proteins. Speaking of, If you want something that can't go wrong go with the Ribeye! It's a great slab of meat that will be soft and chewy. Bori is always crowded during prime hours, so definitely suggest a reservation! there is plenty of parking - with two entrances, so in the front or back. I love that they have their own lot as well, so you don't have to share with other establishments. As for the food, phewww, it's great! I love beef belly, and theirs is incredible! Perfect amount of fat, and they always cook it to my liking. I love their ventilation as well, not like other KBBQs where it smokes, and you end up smelling like a grill! We've been here a few times and every time it seems to get better and better! The Banchan (collective name for small side dishes, iconic part of Korean cuisine) always fresh and it changes just a little every time we come, so you're not stuck with the same sides dishes...of course the kimchi is always there! Here they offer premium quality meats, even wagyu beef! This is the first Korean restaurant that I have ever seen it being served here and how they do it is very Korean Style! I usually like soju or beer with my Korean BBQ but since we ordered the dry aged steak...the wine went surprisingly well!! And they even carted it out! I love that they cook the meats here for you. I usually don't mind doing it myself (I'm usually the designated cook LOL), but here I get to actually take my time, and enjoy eating rather than cooking and serving with my company. Best KBBQ in Houston by far! All the side dishes were seasoned to perfection and tasted authentic! We got the Butcher's cut and it was well worth. The seafood pancake was crispy and stuffed with shrimp, squid, and green onions. Also thoroughly enjoyed the soybean paste stew (great spice), ssamjang, and egg soufflé. The salad sides were great and actually had the essential shaved onion side. The workers cook your meat quickly and with great attention to detail as well. The vibe of the restaurant is great: it's not trying too hard to be fancy and is just confident that it's fantastic. The food was great, and the service was very nice--our server Alan did a great job. We had the bulgogi sizzler lunch special, and it was absolutely delicious--not one bite of the bulgogi was left at the table. We also ordered the udon yookejang, which was a spicy soup with udon noodles and tender brisket, and really enjoyed it--it was unique and delicious. It is definitely one of the best KBBQ in Houston. The beef quality is very good here. I was kind of let down by the other dishes...but the meat quality is worth coming back. First thing, the ambiance is very nice. Everything feels clean and service is pretty attentive. Like everyone mentioned already, they do grill the meat for you. But to be honest, most KBBQ restaurants do grill it for you initially. Here, they are more like NYC/LA where they grill the entire time. Second, the meat quality... definitely the beef cuts are what I will be coming back for. My favorite cuts are beef belly, boneless short rib (it's fresh style no seasoning which allows the quality of the beef flavor to come through), and the marinated short rib. All the beef cuts were tender and moist. Now the pork, it was good but it didn't impress me like how the beef did. Third, the appetizer and sides disappointed me. I tried the seafood pancake twice now, and 1 time it was more thick and slightly over fried. The other time it was thinner, more green onions than seafood ratio, but fried perfectly. So it's inconsistent and for the price, I would expect more consistency. I tried the Kimchi dumplings too which was good but the kimchi is too sour versus savory/spicy for me. The banchan choices were also average to me. Cheese corn needs more cheese. Steamed egg was not silky, it was more dry and burnt at the bottom (both times I dined here). Kimchi stew is also too sour because of the kimchi. It needed more savory and spicy flavor. The bean paste stew is on point though! Hint of spice with baby clams. It was nice to have hotteok as a dessert! I also don't understand but I ordered kimchi fried rice... my rice wasn't fried. It literally was white rice, with fried kimchi/onions/pork belly slices on the side, and sunny side up egg on top. Oh this is easily our new favorite Korean BBQ restaurant. We liked it so much we drove from Spring 2 days in a row and the husband had the ribeye roll on hot stone both times. He said since he control over how long it sat on the stone, it was always cooked perfectly and it was a quality cut. My advice is before your steak reaches the doneness you like, let it sit on top of the asparagus or pineapple it come with so it can stay warm but not cook further. Dolsot bibimbap is gray for when you can't make up your mind. It's a little bit of everything veggies, luscious egg yolk that pulls everything together and comes with a beautiful Turnip Beef soup. It was just like how my mom makes hers. The restaurant looks like it was converted from someone's home and they did such a great job creating separate spaces. The art gallery, bar and restaurant don't bleed into each other and the noises don't travel. The hostess desk is located central to all of it. It was a really well thought out floor plan. Oh for those who fear their catalytic converters stolen. This restaurant has high walls encapsulating the ground and a narrow passageway. The Valet is at the front on busy nights and they encourage only one way traffic. So I felt very safe thieves could sneak in take catalytic converters. Maybe if they really tried but there are easier places. Make reservations on Saturday nights. Come in on weekdays for their lunch menu and happy hour! Keep in mind this place has limited parking and make a reservation. The interior is modern with an art gallery parallel to the restaurant seating area. The ambiance is very lively. We sat down and got straight to ordering. We loved the cheese corn, but the star was the white kimchi. We were there with a friend who used to live in Korean and he mentioned that this white kimchi was quite special and very similar to what you'd get back home. We ordered the kimchi pancake and loved how crispy it was. For main course we ordered the Wagyu, spicy pork and marinated pork. They were juicy and tender. Our first time here and they took care of every need, and the atmosphere was delightful for our early Valentine's date. Yes you will pay more than most Korean bbq cuisines but you have someone cooking your meat for you, high quality protein, and top tier vents that keep you from smelling like bbq after you leave. My friends and I came here to celebrate a friend's birthday. We made reservation for a group of 6 on weekend, keep in mind that there is 2 hours limit during weekends. There's an art gallery when you just enter door, we're browsing while waiting for our friends to come. We ordered bulgogi, kimchi soup, egg soup, miso soup, seafood pancake, kimchi pancake. Everything came out pretty fast, our waiter was very helpful and friendly, even though it were pretty pack on that day but he wasn't rush or anything. Plus, he did all of the cooking so we had more time to chat. They also came out with a tray with soup, kimchi and tempura to celebrate my friend's birthday. You need to explore the backyard as well, it looks like a little Korea town. Highly recommended. read more

Worth every penny. Server cooked our meats to perfection which we got to order and receive promptly. I also got the seafood pancake which was one of the best I ever had. Looks like a more fancy/upscale Korean bbq around the Houston area. Good place for date night. Food here is quality over quantity for sure. Servers cook the meat for you and take their time. The only thing that I didn't like was when a more Mature lady (manager maybe) came to our table, turned on max heat and decided to cook the meat quicker by pressing it down over and over. She kept coming back and adding more pressure on the meat to cook it quicker and I felt rushed eating there. Server was great and did not do that at all. Overall 3/5 because that lady came and rushed us out from a better experience. When I come pay that amount of money, I'd like to enjoy my food in timely manner.
