Our 3 different bus drivers for the day did not lie when they recommended this eclectic joint for its fish sandwiches. I will admit, I was highly skeptical based on how run-down it looks, but the decor is very quirky/unique and a fun change of atmosphere from the places I'm used to. First of all, this place is BUSY during lunch hour and packed with locals--that's how you know it's good. One woman I spotted was still in her wedding dress after leaving her ceremony...seemed like she ran right down to get her food! Runs about $10-12 for a sandwich, but the portion size is generous and the fish is fresh, juicy, and tender. +$1 to get it grilled, but I can't complain too much. I love that everything is made to order and the fish is grilled or fried right in front of you. The bread could be a little more fresh, but again... not too much to complain about. This is how it probably happened: a hundred or two years ago, a ship carrying chefs from the islands to up east wrecked on the Keys. They ran into the natives, who were all a bunch of godless savages at the time (as opposed to now, when everyone is at the height of civility), and quickly repurposed the scraps of their smashed schooner into something resembling a fort. The ship was carrying sheet metal in addition to the chefs, and that made for good (albeit temporary) defenses. They started heating oil in a medieval-inspired defense system to ward off anyone trying to climb their fortifications, but then a funny thing happened. One of the chefs threw some locally caught grouper in the heating oil to make an improvised pre-battle meal (no one wants to die hungry), and then they noticed the savages lining up outside. The natives came in, handed over their cowry shells, key deer, limes, or whatever else they could scrape together, and walked away greased, happy, and fat on fried seafood. Things progressed from there, some hurricanes swept through, the cruise ships and commercial interests rolled in, and now it's the modern day. B.O.'s fish wagon is still there, still dishing of plates of fried everything, and still looking like half a shipwreck. Read a lot of reviews, and a recommendation from a family Doctor, lead me to this place. Place was very old looking and in need of a good pressure washing-in side. Cable reel table l sat at was rotting away, had to be careful when you put your drink down or the glass would fall over. Water was leaking from somewhere in the ceiling (A/C unit?) leaving water on the floor and collecting under one ladies table. Live music was terrific for lunch time, but the food was not that good, just ok. For all the hype and expense Key West has better choices. read more

Just got back from the fish wagon. The good news; people that work there are awesome, funky place that has a cool vibe. I ordered the fried grouper sandwich, fritters (6), and the fries. Those three items came to $25 - so not very cheap. As others have mentioned here in Yelp, the fritters were doughy and did not have much taste whatsoever. they were a waste of calories. the sandwich was good - not great, but good. the fries were actually very tasty. This was just an overpriced long john silver's! First you walk in and you wonder how this place is still standing, then you walk right up to an old trailer and order from miscellaneous chalkboards. The "chef" was wearing latex gloves which really didn't matter considering she just wiped them down the sides of her shirt and shorts, continued to walk out the food to the tables touching many things other than food but continued on with the same gloves. We ordered the grouper and the shrimp sandwich, which neither came with a side, even though $15 and $10...the total for lunch for two was almost $40! Not worth the price tag at all. So being on vacation in key west, I wanted seafood. Walking up and down Duval trying to decide my friend said he heard Bo's fish wagon was good. So we walked 7 blocks or so and finally found it. I walked in, looked at the menu scribbled on a board and decided to try the grouper sandwich. It didn't have a listed price. Just said MKT (market price). So looking at all the other sandwiches which were priced from the $10-$12 range, I assumed at most it would be $15. So I ordered my fried grouper sandwich, and a dr pepper. Handed my card over to the cashier and the total was $21.72. That is absurd! But I moved past it. I figured, hey I just got ripped off but I'm sure this is great. Plot twist, it wasn't. A few mins later they bring my 6" grouper sandwich out. With NO FRIES or side of any kind. So I just paid $21.72 for a sandwich and a dr pepper. To top it off, the sandwich was very mediocre at best. The batter had no seasoning. Plus it came with iceberg lettuce and a tomato slice. Not worth it. My advice, don't go here. So many better places with more food at a more reasonable price. We were in Key West late one night and decided to eat here. We wanted something quick and kid friendly (3 kids under the age of 10) and this spot was perfect! The food came out quick, the kids were able to play (not you're typical restaurant) and the food was delicious! The Ahi Tuna tacos was to die for and my 4 year old loved the cracked conch! I don't know what it is with Key West conch fritters, but I haven't found any place that makes them like the Bahamian resturants do in Miami. B.O.'s reminds me of Jimbo's in Miami. It looks like a wooden shack and is 100% laid-back and casual. It's got a window service and bar stools to sit and enjoy a pile of perfectly delicious conch fritters. It's a bit out of the way, somewhat near the pier and boardwalk. The World Famous Grouper Sandwich was definitely named that for a reason! Don't let the funky fun shack vibe fool you, they don't mess around when it comes to food. Any of the sandwiches are the way to go. Super fresh, soft, fluffy Cuban bread topped with whatever you want, and then crowned with a filet of lightly battered fish and secret sauce. I'm not a fried fish connoisseur by any means, so I wasn't sure what to expect. But from the reviews I thought something amazing was about to enter my face. But for all the amazing food we found in Key West, this place disappointed in comparison. The sandwich came out pretty quick, looking like nothing special. "This," I thought, "must be a disguise." The atmosphere is hipster-tchotchke-chic with writing on the walls, license plates from various states, picnic tables in the dirt, tent-like walls and that not-so-clean feeling people seem to love. This place was recommended by Mr. Ed, my guardian angel of a shuttle driver. At first glance, it seems a little iffy but once you get in, it was delicious! I had the grouper sandwich one day and the fried mahi mahi platter another day. I preferred the platter, even though the sandwich was what their "signature" dish. The sandwich just had way to much bread and you couldn't really taste my favorite part, the key lime mayo! Also, the cocktail sauce that came with the platter was amazing. If you go with someone else, you can definitely split the sides the come with the platter, once person get fries, the other coleslaw. Refills are a definite plus and be sure to try the key lime-ade. We ate here based on a write up in the local paper that day. I have no idea why they wrote about it. The place had some original charm. It felt like the owner put a lot of work in it decades ago and let his passion go to other ventures. It's decorated with stuff wash up on the beach and garbage from the curb. It looked and felt dirty. The food and service did not match the price. Example $17.99 for a paper thin piece of grouper on a bun and shot glass of slaw.
