Bosa made me thrice-lucky today. After having foolishly skipped lunch before my wife and I ventured way out west to test-drive a car, I was thrilled to spot an independent doughnut shop right by the dealership. Snacktastic. And, it was just under the wire of closing time, 2:30pm. AND, they had apple fritters left. In fact, there was a decent selection for closing time on a Saturday, I'd say about ten or twelve choices. The fritter was pretty good for being twelve hours old (I presume). I also enjoyed a plain cake with chocolate icing and peanuts. They make a nice cake doughnut here; it didn't leave that starchy sensation on the back of my teeth like many places do. I really hate that feeling. This is the only donut shop I go to when buying fresh donuts for my clients. Whether the client is in St Charles or Bedford Park, I stop here first. The donuts are bigger, fresher and there is more variety. I'd rather support a small family run local business (and the people at Bosa could not be nicer, they're so sweet) than some chain that makes their donuts in a factory somewhere. I finally drove by Bosa donuts when they were open! I always manage to drive by in the afternoon. I dropped and grabbed a dozen donuts, hoping to find a good local spot for donuts. I did! I am always a fan of a glazed old-fashioned donut, most places I found are not very good. Bosa did a great job! Flavor was great, the slight outside crunch was a good balance to the moisture inside. I had never had a buttermilk donut before and I think it may be one of my new favorites. The service was great; very friendly and even threw in an extra donut. This was our family's favorite for over a decade but they have new owmers and the donuts are terrible. The size is off, the donuts aren't the same and the frosting is terrible. This update is for the blueberry donut only. I always remembered Bosa's blueberry donut as incredible, but it had been a long time since I last tried it. I came in on a Saturday around lunchtime, and there were about 10 varieties available, blueberry being one. I took a bite, and it wasn't as good as I remembered. The texture was too bready for me when I was looking for a light cake donut. The blueberry pieces were few and tiny, and the donut lacked blueberry flavor. UPDATE - a friend bought some donuts from here, along with the blueberry. And it was pretty good. So the key would be to buy & eat them early in the day. read more

The best donuts. Nothing too fancy or innovative, just the best versions of classic donuts. My faves are the glazed twist or the cinnamon crumble. My family has been fans of Bosa for years. They used to be located in Woodridge, now we make the drive up to St. Charles every so often because they're worth the trip. My sister and I even served Bosa Donuts at our weddings because all of our friends and family either know how great they are, or needed to learn. read more

When I was little, donuts were an infrequent treat. When I was lucky enough to have one, I would stick my finger through the hole and nibble slowly around and around, making it last. The exception to this rule was when we were at my Aunt's house in Alton, Illinois and she had donuts from Duke Bakery. Then I would gobble them down as fast as I could in hopes of scoring another donut. Those Alton donuts are the ones by which I judge all other donuts. Bosa Donuts are close and maybe if I had gotten here earlier in the day when they were fresher I would have gone for quantity. I had one glazed donut and my husband had one jelly filled donut and we both liked them very much. We were in the midst of the Fox Valley Caffeine Cruise and this donut provided a good contrast to the coffee. I would come back but I would ask them this time, why Bosa? Bosa Nova? The donuts are certainly the draw. Very nicely done, and they are big. Larger than even other "made fresh" places in the area. The selection is a little smaller, so it's a good idea to get there early, if you can help it. The prices are really good for the size of the donut, but make sure you spend at least $4 if you are using a credit or debit card. You don't find many places that still keep that kind of rule (seems awfully archaic, but I can understand the need for a small business I guess), but they do have signs clearly posted when you come in. The coffee deserves a separate review, because it's just not very good. Very watery and blah, and the setup for adding your cream and sugar is kind of awkward. I was handed a big Dean's half and half jug right at the register, and there's a jar of sugar just sitting open, so you have to add that after you pay, hoping that you can do it quickly while people wait behind you. They should really set up a counter for that kind of thing. In the future, I'll probably just skip the coffee here though, because the donuts by themselves are good enough for repeat visits. read more

I went to Bosa Donuts numerous times in my childhood, and decided to make a stop in when I was driving by around the breakfast hour a few weeks ago. I bought two different kinds of donuts- one was fluffy and glazed, the other a buttermilk donut with chocolate frosting. I thought both of the donuts were delicious- but preferred the fluffy one. As others have mentioned they prefer cash and won't take plastic under a certain dollar amount. If that annoys you- then don't go here- but as I know how big credit card company fees are it make sense to me. I bookmarked the location and decided that I needed to try them one day. While driving back from Elburn one weekend, the hubs reminded me that we were about to drive past. Bosa is my one and only donut shop, completely different style of frosting, much better than anything Ive had. Wheaton Academy high school is behind Bosa 100%. The owner is a very nice family, always out and talking with the customers when I walk in. Every purchase I have made I am greeted and leave with a "have a nice day" or something sweet. They are usually only open till 3 pm because they open at 4am which is nice for early birds and commuters. If you get a box of donuts they give you free donut holes every time. Really great donuts, a good alternative to Dunkin sometimes. Wish it was more welcoming to sit down and eat at. Very cramped in there and the tables take up most of the room. I went in to pick up an order of egg rolls this morning , which I have done before . They are special order and I have order them three or four times in the past. Well this morning the price of them went up by 50% , from a 1.00 a piece to 1.50 a piece. I had 40 of them ordered. When I asked her about the price she looked at my like I was nuts. I then ask for the sweet and sour sauce and and she said I don't have much and gave me enough for maybe 4 egg rolls. So I paid 50% more had to stop at the grocery store for sweet and sour sauce.
