Beautiful wine bar. I've wanted to come here for so long and finally got a reservation! Walking in seems chaotic so would definitely recommend getting a reservation. Loved the ambiance and lighting inside -- it's super moody and romantic; perfect for a date or girls night. The menu is in French but the staff are super helpful with all the questions we had. They also took the time to bring out wine samples for us to try. Service here is outstanding and everyone was very patient despite it being super busy. We tried the omelette au boursin, tarte a la tomate, and the pain perdu. The boursin omelette was super rich and creamy. The texture was amazing! Also loved the sweet and fresh tomatoes in the tarte (though it was pretty hard to share). The pain perdu was the star of the show. I would 100% go back just for that dessert. The bread is incredibly soft and the caramel sauce goes perfectly with the ice cream. This spot is pretty expensive (glasses of wine are $20+ and after tax/tip it was around $70pp to share 3 dishes) but a really nice spot for a celebration or special meal! read more

Verjus is a beautiful restaurant with great food and wine. But the best thing about it is the service, IMHO. Truly exceptional. We had five different staff touch points during our meal, and it was handled seamlessly with precision and warmth. Really remarkable. These folks know hospitality. Well done, staff!!! It is always hard to get a spot at Verjus. I am not very much the kind of person who likes to fork over credit card info for a reservation. So the only way for me to get a seat at Verjus was to arrive just half an hour before the kitchen closes. This approach has its problem: menu options are limited. We went ahead with the chocolate mousse and something I still cannot read (yes I like to order stuff from the menu that I have never seen in the past). The chocolate mousse was absolutely delicious: rich in flavor but light in texture. The other dessert was so-so. Will try to go by again to try the regular stuff. Stay tuned! read more

Props to the BOH... The Parisian bistro fare coming out of Verjus' kitchen is bomb with many remarkable dishes. I get the hype. And, the weather couldn't be more perfect for al fresco dining...warm (for the city's standards) with a gentle breeze. Sadly, poor hospitality marred our experience but more on that later. From the team behind Quince and Cotogna, Verjus has been on my list since the opened in 2019 but fell off my radar when they closed for 4 years during the pandemic. Recently, I saw they started Saturday lunch service so made rezzies (wide open availability). Weekday rezzies are harder to secure and are released 7 days in advance at midnight. Indoor and sidewalk seating available. While Verjus is a wine bar specializing in Euro wines, they have a pretty substantial bistro menu (in French with no ingredients listed) with rotating seasonal dishes and permanent staples like the pâté en croûte, omelette boursin, house-made sausages, and the pain perdu. 6% SF surcharge. When I brought up that we didn't receive two of the dishes we ordered (seems he forgot to place the order), he brushed it off and said, they were coming. I thought he was just having a bad day but his tone and demeanor toward other tables suggested otherwise. Later, two male staff members repeatedly passed by our table to assist neighboring tables but ignored me despite several attempts at eye contact. By that point, it was hard not to feel that we were being treated differently. Whether it came down to not ordering alkie (we can't drink wine) or something else (we were the only POC table outside), it's not a good feeling. The hostess was friendly throughout, and a kind gentleman (who I later learned was the GM), both stepped in when we needed help; ordering dessert, getting water refills, and paying the bill. Our server was straight up fantastic, giving a thoughtful rundown of the menu, catering to our preferences, and staying perfectly attentive the entire meal. While everything was delicious, the standout dishes were the tomato tart, the French omelette, the pork chop according to my dining party, and the French toast dessert. The tomato tart makes you see tomatoes differently and wonder why yours don't quite taste like that.. fresh and rosy, but savory and sweet at the same time. The French omelette with caramelized onions was simple but wonderful. The blend was creamy and melted on your tongue. Top off your bite with some ice cream and you've got a delicious bite. The fondue is definitely a fun dish. You get little forks and the potatoes are crispy perfection. The sauce itself isn't overly rich. We also went with the endive salad which was refreshing and light. For entrees we did the duck and the steak. The duck was tender while the skin was crispy. The staff were informative and helpful. Note that if you're a white wine lover most of the wines they carry are on the drier side. Hand on heart, Verjus is one of the best gems in the city of SF! I've been here 2 times and both times have been absolutely incredible! The service is great and the menu while limited, is perfectly curated. The ambiance is romantic and vibe, and I love how every table has fleur de sel, black pepper, and good olive oil! The mussels on toast was my favorite bite of 2025! The mussels were succulent and fresh, and beautifully balanced on a crispy piece of bread. I cannot rave enough about this dish! We also tried the lightly tossed salad, which is refreshing and piled high! The manchego sausage is a good meaty bite, the bread is crusty with perfect butter, the beets were well balanced, the fondue is a must, but the pièce de résistance is the pain perdu. Minus one star because I have not eaten here! So the rating is based on my experience with the wine bar portion of the restaurant. This place was recommended to me by a friend and it did not disappoint. The wine selection was abundant and the service was good. We did have to wait a little to be seated inside, and the way they do that is by writing your name down on a chalkboard which was interesting but at least you can keep track of who is next. Our first red was ok, But the star of the show was a Riesling that my friend picked that wasn't too sweet and not too dry! Very smooth and the vibes continued from Golden Sardine. I'm a sucker for vibes and this place checks all the boxes for me. Steps from the iconic Transamerica Building, Verjus was everything I ever wanted in a wine bar and more. I loved the dark movie theater mood upon walking in. When we walked in, the first thing we noticed was a marquee with entree items which I thought was brilliant. Instead of traditional menus, you look up at the marquee to see their daily offerings. My husband and I walked in around 8:30pm on a Tuesday evening and were able to nab 2 bar stools immediately (no reservation required). We were met by a lovely server who was very attentive. We ordered the raw scallops, duck confit, and house pate. We also had their fresh bread. I would say the best dish of the night was the fresh bread and butter - this is the one thing I'd go back for. The pate was lackluster and the duck confit was good, but definitely didn't have a wow factor to it. Lost for words as to how divine the pain perdu was. Everyone says it's amazing but you don't realize how much until you get a bite of heaven. The caramel is decadent yet not overwhelmingly sweet. The toast is burnt to perfection or caramelized I should say on top. A top 10 dessert for sure, reminds me a lot of the caramel and richness of a sundae from angler. Wine was also great! The ambiance, the service, the food are all amazing. Our server recommended a rosé that was perfect by itself and with our meal. This time around, I got to try some new dishes, the pate, kanpachi and quenelle. I really liked the pate and kanpachi dishes. The rice that came with the quenelle was amazing with the lobster sauce. The rice is reminiscent of Chinese scorched, crispy rice. The quenelle had a good flavor since it was served with lobster sauce; however, I didn't really like the texture. It's very noisy especially the tables were set quite close to each other so I wouldn't suggest for first date since you will have to talk super loud to hear each other. Reasons for 4 stars were because the rattan chairs were quite uncomfortable with no back and no cushion, they are small and low chairs so if you happen to be taller, your legs might get tired bending them for the meal duration plus the corners of the chairs were digging into my thighs. Service was friendly but a bit lacking at the beginning of our meal, it slightly picked up (being tend to) towards the tail end of our meal. All the food was good especially the omelette, sausage, fondu with baby potatoes, mussels on toast, the chicken main and bread pudding dessert. There was quite a bit of hype around verjus and I'd heard great things about its popularity before Covid. I finally managed to secure a Friday night reservation, and I am glad I did. The interior was charming, perfect for a date night or an intimate small group dinner. They also had a cave area at the back, which looked ideal for larger gatherings or events. Being at a wine bar, we ordered some wine along with a few dishes to share. The bread and butter were great, especially after spotting the butter tower in the kitchen. However, the razor clams felt overpriced, and I was disappointed they were chopped instead of whole. They do seat everyone on stools, so you have to hang your jacket on a coat rack - they do have a few scattered throughout. The space is gorgeous and we were sat right by the open kitchen. One thing to note is that the menu is on the marquee and we had to crane our necks a bit to read it. We started with their special escargot which were buttery and garlicky perfection. The fondue was very funky in a good way. The liver mousse was phenomenal and the bread was perfect with it. The Boursin omelet was so creamy and delicious. We also had the duck confit which was pretty well done, but is better at L'Ardoise. The standout of the night was their pain perdu dessert. Highly recommend if you're looking for a vibey French bar experience in SF! There aren't many good French restaurants in SF so this is a welcome addition. They have some great classic French dishes (escargot, duck confit) but also some great additions. My personal favorites were the sausage manchego and the omelette. Both were cooked perfectly. I recommend sharing a bunch of dishes with a group as the food is very rich. And you absolutely must have the pain perdu dessert to end your meal. Came here for an event. It was amazing from start to finish. The restaurant definitely came full force to accommodate all guest with personalized attention and care. So many variety of dishes and appetizers with amazing peering of wine and champagne. Not all dishes were on point. I had a very salty egg and couldn't even finish a bit. The staff heard and quickly prepared one just for me. What a great save! My favorite was the lamb shoulders. Omg so good : tender and succulent. Definitely come back next time with a date. read more

I went to Verjus for a girls' night, and it was super cute. We split a bottle of wine and ordered a couple of desserts, which were hands down some of the best I've had in a long time. The service was great. The rice pudding was especially memorable, unique, not overly sweet, and something you don't see on menus very often. We also ordered the pain perdu, which was delicious. It had a nice caramelized coating, and the texture was great. I'd recommend Verjus for a date night or girls' night. It is on the louder side, but it's a wine bar and it's the holidays, so it was nice seeing everyone in a good mood. We didn't make reservations, so we had to put our name down and were told a seat would open up in about two hours. We ended up eating somewhere else and came back two and a half hours later after receiving a text that our table was ready. It worked out, and I'm glad I got to enjoy their desserts. read more

Amazing experience. The service is top tier and the ambiance was perfect for a romantic date night! The quality of ingredients really shines through in their food, even just the bread and butter transported me back to France. I wouldn't expect a wine bar to have amazing food, but I saw it featured recently in Instagram and decided to give it a shot. Was blown away by the food! Definitely try to make a reservation if you can. They open up a week early at midnight, and they're pretty easy to make. I'm used to reservations booking out within minutes, but there was plenty of availability here. Alternatively, you can also set alerts for your desired date and time and get text/email alerts whenever a time slot opens. The space is much larger than it appears from the outside. My friend and I were seated on the side with the bar, which was a bit too loud, but it was much quieter on the other side where the bathroom is. I was here to catch up with my friend, so it would've been nice if we had been seated in the quieter side. Oh well. On our side, most of the seats were bar stool-type seats with no back, so I had to awkwardly hold onto my purse. They have hooks along the walls for jackets. They have a good selection wine and some cocktails + beer for alcohol as well as some non-alcoholic options. The food menu is posted on a board on the wall, so I'm guessing it changes on a fairly frequent basis. After some debate, we shared the below: chicken liver mousse ($16) bread & butter ($8) duck for two ($90) pain perdu ($16) Everything was so so good. The chicken liver mousse was super creamy and paired well with the bread it came with. It's a generous amount of mousse, so we ordered additional bread to eat it with. The duck was phenomenal. I don't think I've had such amazing duck in a while. It's roasted and served in slices, so it was super easy to eat. Each slice was super tender and juicy. The vegetables that were served on the side were super fresh too. Our favorite was the turnips. After the duck, we were completely stuffed. But I was determined to try the pain perdu as I had seen it mentioned in multiple reviews, and I'm so glad I did! It looks like french toast with a scoop of ice cream on top, but each warm bite tasted like almost like custard and paired well with the ice cream. I was a huge fan of this dessert. Honestly, it's been a while since I've been so impressed with a meal. Yes it's not the cheapest, but I highly recommend checking this place out for the exceptional quality. read more
