    Hot Dog and Fries

The people are really sweet at this neighborhood hot dog joint. They get 5 stars. The food is a bit meh. The fries were okay, as was the dog. But the burgers we had were a bit dry and unseasoned. If they are fresh, I'd be surprised. They seemed like frozen burgers. It was fun to sit outside to eat watching families and traffic. I might go back to try the ice cream that several families were enjoying.

    Here's what they got!!

Continues to be one of my favorite INEXPENSIVE lunch spots in this area. Food is great also. There are spots with "better" fries but that's minor for me. Cheeseburger is top notch. Sefvi e is great as well. Order thru yelp and by the time ya get there it will be ready...

Watch out Portillos this place can beat your hotdogs !! So good. The fries are yummy as well. I do love how the hotdogs and fries come together. Inside was ok. Cutish ambiance. . The service was nice. I did tell the lady that it was our first time hete. we didn't know they had specials so she could've saved us some money by telling us about them instead of ordering everything individually. We will be back to try other food.

Yum! We had been to Chicago just this past July and we're headed back from Wisconsin when we were driving though. I of course was craving a Chicago style hot dog so we found a place and stopped. I loved the vibe, it had the small hole in the wall feel and in a great area. Big parking lot on the side (we had our van so that was so nice). There were outdoor seats and it was a decent size for it being a little hot dog shop. We walked up to the counter and ordered them sat down. Our food was up in no time flat and called out from a window on the other side of the shop. Loved that! Like I said, has an old time feel a bit. My Chicago style hot dog was delicious! Nothing to over powering which I find sometimes. My husband got a chilly dog and wasn't a huge fan of the cheese but he's just weird about nacho cheese so if he would have known he would have ordered something different. His was okay. I'd say it was an all around great experience and great easy find for us simply driving though and me having a craving

Solid chili on a fall day. Soups are great, too. A nice spot to take the kids for lunch, dinner, or ice cream treats.

Southtown Hot Dogs is a tiny little eatery located right at the intersection of Vallette and York Road in Elmhurst. There is an attached parking lot with a fair number of parking spaces and a handful of tables inside. In stopping by Southtown I decided it would be a wise decision to try out the hot dog. I placed my order and within a few minutes a hot dog and fries was ready. The hot dog here came on a classic Chicago style poppy seed bun. The bun was soft, no signs of dryness and was prepared well. The pickle slice used here wasn't too thick, too thin or too sour. The tomato slices were a bit on the thick and sloppy side. There was a tad too much celery salt applied to this hot dog, the sport peppers were good with just the right amount of spicy to add to the dog. The mustard, onion and relish were all well applied and the skinless sausage on the dog was well heated and tasted. Overall this was a solid example of a Chicago style hot dog. Also included with the dog were long shoestring style fries, these were very good fries as well. They were a little on the salty side but had a nice amount of flavor, were crisp enough to get a good bite out of and had a tasty potato paste. Overall these were well above average fries. I left Southtown Express being quite impressed and would say they are well above average for a Chicago style hot dog stand. I am going to give them four stars. They have a good hot dog and good fries.

Great little hot dog place in Elmhurst. Like going for a quick lunch, and if your lucky enough to get a table because of all the kids here.

But when I ask for both sweet and hot peppers and then also have to pay for the peppers, PLEASE don't skimp on the sweet peppers. One sandwich had no sweet peppers at all, and the other two had so little that I might barely get sweet pepper in ever other bite. I'm not firing Portillo's. We've been to various locations but this location is on the way back home so we've been here a couple of times. The burgers are chargrilled, juicy and fresh. I got a double cheeseburger with everything on it with fries and everything was hot and fresh. That burger was huge. I recommend getting a side of hot peppers and adding some to your burger. It just kicks the flavor up a notch. Oh we also got an order of onion rings and those were good too. We didn't get dessert time, but trust me, the milkshakes, cake shakes and cakes are delicious....a sure fire way to big your back, lol. We dined in and our order was ready in about 5-minutes. Portillo's started as a hotdog joint and they still are, but for me, it's all about the burgers.

Located in North Park Mall shopping center (which is less of a Mall and more of a giant flea market…read morethese days) is a small hot dog stand with a few tables right inside the swap meet area. The only signage I could find on the place was "Cooks Nook" so I figured that's the name of it. This is a small hot dog stand with a handful of items available for purchase. Considering they had a giant statue of a hot dog applying condiments to itself outside, I figured it would be worth giving it a try. When I got my hot dog it came plain and they brought out a set of different condiments to put on it. To be quite honest none of them looked particularly fresh so I decided I would play it safe and merely apply mustard to this dog. I then sat down, snapped a picture of it and took a bite. The actual sausage itself wasn't bad, but certainly wasn't great. It was a skinless dog and from the signage it appears to be Eisenberg brand. It had a definite greasy texture and charred flavor to it. The bun included was a dry, somewhat hard poppy seed bun. While it was under 2.00 for the hot dog, and I didn't have high hopes for the quality here and it was about what I expected. While I can't say it was awful considering how plain it was. I also can't recommend it. This is going to get one star as it was a greasy so so quality hot dog on a hard bun. It's not the worst hot dog I've ever had, but it certainly isn't deserving of more than one star.

The options are a little limited, but in a good way: everything feels curated rather than overwhelming, with some unique combinations you don't see everywhere. Huge shoutout to the staff too: super knowledgeable, friendly, and happy to talk through the menu or make recommendations, which made the whole experience feel relaxed and welcoming. The space itself is small, but it works. It adds to the cozy vibe instead of feeling cramped, and overall the atmosphere is warm and inviting. New ownership is keeping the ice cream (cinnamon gelato is fantastic) along with the Pineapple Dole Whip. Theme is North American Fusion so think Canadian, US, Mexican fusion. Menu include regional favorities across North America from Birria Poutine (amazing) to a White Fish Sandwich with Squid Ink and lime crema (come on now! It's fire!). This place is unique distinct and different and I love it. One of the owners has some legitimate cocktail chops (finalist in season one of Mixology on Netflix) and is bringing his background and passion to Villa Park! You can also try his cocktail bar in Itasca called No School Tomorrow which is similarly different, delicious, and unquestionably a great time especially if you lived life in the 90's. How freakin lucky are we to have a gem like this in Villa Park! My only hope is that we don't blow it. Like any new restaurant they are refining menu items and working out kinks. Food and drinks are on the pricier side (they have a solid kids hot dog and fries option for $5 for kids though) but what is the going rate for Squid Ink?! It is also unlike anything else you will find in Villa Park or Western Suburbs, or really anywhere so I would say absolutely worth it. Staff is also ridiculously friendly and excited about their product. While they have awesome specialty cocktails that you will not find anywhere else (pozole spices in a cocktail?!) they are also great making any classic cocktail you can come up with. My one feedback for now would be to up the dish-ware if going with higher price items vs going with paper products. This might just be they are testing things out. I'm also excited to see some brunch options or perhaps coffee and pastries in the future to get the biker/ boozy brunchy weekenders with kids crowd.
