Stopped by Bosscat Kitchen & Libations for lunch during the World Cup while looking for a place to watch the USA vs. Australia match with my kids. The food was excellent, and the service was even better. Everyone we interacted with was friendly and attentive, and the overall atmosphere of the restaurant was warm and inviting. The only reason I'm giving four stars instead of five is that we came specifically to watch the game. Inside the dining area, the match was only visible on a couple of small TVs near the bar, which wasn't the most comfortable setup for enjoying a World Cup match during lunch. Fortunately, there was a large fan viewing area just outside with a great soccer atmosphere, so we finished our meal and headed there to continue watching the game. We later tried a nearby coffee shop to catch the second half, but that experience was much less welcoming. As a restaurant, Bosscat absolutely delivered--great lunch, great service, and a lively atmosphere. If you're looking for a quality meal near the stadium, it's an excellent choice. Just don't expect the main dining room to be an ideal sports-viewing destination during major matches.

White fish with risotto. I'm usually not a risotto fan, but it was really good

The atmosphere, food, service are still good. It's a fun place to go after work. The turnover is pretty fast, so if you're waiting for a seat at the bar it opens up fairly quickly. For dining, it's best to get a res.

Made reservations for lunch through OpenTable and were seated right away. I got the burger and asked for it protein style, but that somehow got missed and it came out on a bun. Not the end of the world, but if you're making special requests, it might be worth reminding them when the food comes out. Environment was a little loud, but they have indoor and outdoor seating. I would come back.

My husband and I came here for brunch two days in a row--and honestly, that says everything you need to know about Bosscat. From the moment we walked in, the hospitality was exceptional. Mary, the manager, was professional, knowledgeable, and genuinely kind, making us feel welcomed from start to finish. Dakota was fantastic as well and added to an already outstanding experience. We also had the pleasure of meeting owner John, whose warmth and hospitality were evident. He has truly created something special here. The atmosphere strikes the perfect balance between relaxed, breezy, and effortlessly trendy without trying too hard. The brunch menu is thoughtfully curated, reasonably priced, and refreshing in a time when brunch can easily become overpriced. Not a single item was over $20. And let's talk about the pancakes. We ordered them both days because they were that good. Light, fluffy, perfectly cooked, and finished with those irresistible crisp golden edges that pancake lovers dream about. Easily some of the best pancakes we've had in a very long time. Bosscat delivers on food, service, value, and atmosphere. It's rare to find a place that gets all four right, but they absolutely nailed it. We can't wait to come back!!

Came here for a team dinner and left satisfied. The establishment is really nice and service was quick. Food was great; overall no complaints.

It was the first time visiting the new location and the restaurant is very pretty. It's great for taking pictures, too. Although the new location is a bit harder to get at, it's worth the trek. The menu is mostly the same, but we got the big steak special. It was cooked perfectly and was fit for sharing. The chips and dip were delicious, and the sliders were pretty solid. This is a great date night spot with very good service and drink.

No, it's not 2016... but somehow Bosscat Kitchen still has brunch menu favorites under $20 Everything we ordered was SO good. The Blueberry Monster pancakes were fluffy, sweet, and loaded with blueberries without being too overwhelming. The buttermilk pancakes were classic, buttery, and honestly so comforting. We also got the steak & eggs, which was cooked perfectly medium rare and super satisfying, and the Holy Smoked Benedict was packed with flavor with the perfect smoky touch. And let's talk about the $5 mimosas... such a steal Between the delicious food, generous portions, fun brunch vibe, and friendly service, this spot is definitely worth checking out. If you get the chance to come here for brunch, you will no be disappointed!!

    BEIGNETS

Cute location for a date night. Dim lighting, beautiful decor, great food - what more can you ask for? My husband and I were stuffed from a heavy lunch so we split a few shareable plates. The short rib tostadas were perfectly sized to share. The short rib melted in your mouth (easily the best part of our meal). The lettuce wraps with chicken were also light while maintaining solid taste. We ended up opting for dessert and the beignets / apple pie with ice cream were both spectacular. The beignets came with a creamy yellow custard and marshmallow that not only paired perfectly with the beignets, but it enhanced the flavor.

Great spot for lunch during the workweek. Plenty of seating. Validated parking in the parking structure next door. Great service. We ordered a few appetizers, including the pork belly, egg rolls, and bread. All were delicious! I got the coastal white fish with risotto which was pretty good! Would definitely come by again!

    12 HOUR BEEF SHORT RIB

Ok I went back & got the pineapple sage elixir which was tasty. Also had the ranch bread which was so so good. Service was very attentive, fast, & friendly. Sat outside on a Saturday in the daytime which was pleasant and causal.

    Libation #11 - it's like a Rye Sour

It's been over 10 years, so I think it is time for a refreshed review. Since then, Bosscat has moved from being next to the Airport to being in a very nice office park in Irvine. They switched from a whiskey forward garage look to a high ceiling, vintage, aged but modern southern feel full size restaurant with a large bar counter and big screen projection screens outside for "takeout" outdoor dining on weather friendly days. Back in the day, I remembered it for it's Brick Chicken, Red Velvet Churros and Fruity Pebbles French Toast. The Brick Chicken has departed the menu, the Red Velvet Churros are no more and I'm not sure if the Fruity Pebbles French Toast is still around since I haven't been back for brunch. But for dinner... Country Bread - A quick fried circle of bread that is breakaway biscuit sized with a large dollop of butter in the middle. The bread without the butter in the middle already felt sinfully buttered. I wanted to eat it all but was glad I had to share as no man should tempt himself like that. Thick Cut Fries - This seems a little pricey until the side dish reaches you. The fries were square cute and massive. It is something that has to be shared between four people. Glistening orange fried on the outside, tender spud meat on the inside. Their fries are really, really good. Portabello Mushrooms - I love this dish. It comes with wide cute, breaded pieces of portabello mushroom that are fresh fried with a spicy aioli dip. I did not realize that my party of 8 was not that big on mushrooms so I ended up eating half of the dish and there was still leftovers. If you like mushrooms, get this, it's one of their tried and true unique side. Bourbon Butter Chicken - A fried chicken breast that is laid to rest over mashed potatoes (you can get the potatoes loaded if you want) and served with spinach on the side and a creamy mushroom bourbon sauce. This was the perfect amount of everything here and sauce, chicken and potatoes was heaven together. 12 Hour Beef Short Rib - If I am feelin' the itchin for some beef, I go for this over a steak at Bosscat. The short rib is so tender and rich in flavor and is accompanied by a black pepper sauce, mashed potatoes and greens. This is probably my favorite main dish here. For drinks I had the Libation #11, which is like a rye version of a whiskey sour with a little twist. Bulleit Rye, Cointreau, Orgeat, Citrus and Egg Whites. Well balanced, well done. For dessert, we brought a birthday cake for our friend, but in the weirdest twist of fate, there was another large party there that finished before and their server thought when they said birthday, that they had brought that cake so they served our large sheet cake to the other party of about 16-20 people. Our server was very apologetic for the error that she did not create and let us each pick our own dessert from the menu, which we were totally fine with. Fried Apple Pie - This is a large apple pie pocket, served with a scoop of ice cream. It reminded me of those Peanuts Apple Pies I used to buy from the liquor store on the way home from school, but larger, freshly made and warm. Like leveling up 3x from those after school snacks (but they do bring fond memories). It's fun, good and shareable. The only thing our group noticed was that the music seemed to get louder and louder, when in reality it was always there at the same decibel level... Loud. During the first hour we weren't paying attention but then we couldn't hear what we were saying and realized it was not just because of the ambient noise. Hearty food done well, great drinks and a fun atmosphere. Good for dates, dinners with friends or after work happy hour, if you can navigate/tune out some of the loudness. Yes, they do validate a couple of hours for parking. After that, you will have to pay a bit.

    MAC N CHEESE
    Katarina O.

First time at Bosscat!! Came late one night for a quick bite and was greeted with great, personable service. I decided on the mushroom banh mi, and was blown away with how good the side salad was...I would've bought that salad on its own!!! The portabello mushroom paired with the soy sesame sauce/bun was amazing and had the crispy freshness of the veggies. The mac and cheese was also incredible, not too soupy, white cheddar/parm and added texture and a little sweet/saltiness with the ritz crackers. Loved it!

After a farewell dinner to/at Gulliver's Prime Ribs Of Beef, our party of six continued the evening several miles away at Stowaway for some light bites and libations. Personally, I was all about the Hawaiiana tiki culture and tried to live it every day. Founded by co-owners Leonard Chan and Dominic Iapello, its current home of barely three years in a former dive bar came about when they unceremoniously had to leave the original location. With its proximity to Disneyland's Enchanted Tiki Room and the very niche underground-like society of tiki culture, they found their footing with a consistent customer base and the thrill of island escapism through colorful cocktails, pleasurable pupus, and tropical trimmings. Would I stow myself away somewhere inside and never leave!? PURCHASE(S) Don Q Punch Bowl ($38.00): Made with Don Q's Cristal Silver, Anejo, and 151 Gold Rums, respectively, peach brandy, passion fruit, pineapple juice, and citrus juices, this flaming concoction was rumtastic in every way possible as the tropical juices just made it that much sweeter. There were more ice chips than I liked, but it was a fun trough to drink out of for the four of us who wanted to imbibe. Coconut Shrimp 6pc ($12.00): Breaded and flash-fried plump shrimp served with a sweet chili dipping sauce, these were tasty and perfectly paired with the Don Q cocktail I was drinking. Stowaway Fries ($17.00): Constructed with a pile of crisp golden spud sticks, rum braised pork, and topped with a hearty gravy and sunny-side up egg, this loco moco fries dish was slamming while the slightly charred juicy pork had me squealing with enjoyment. SERVICE We had reservations, so once our entire party arrived, they quickly seated us in a cool cave-live separate alcove for more privacy. Our server arrived with menus, suggestions, and glasses of water. Minutes later, we all ordered at once, and everything (drinks and food) arrived within ten minutes. Because we had another reservation inside the same bar, we informed our male server and to let us know when we were allowed to go there. All was casual, chill, and somewhat on island time - aloha and mahalo! PARKING (FREE): They shared a medium-sized private lot with several other businesses who were closed at this time with plenty of spots - 'nuff said. ATMOSPHERE, DÉCOR, AMBIENCE Located within a strip mall, you opened the front door and walked into an island oasis as if you were a cast member on "Gilligan's Island" with thatched roof material above you, tiki statues displaced on all of the volcanic-looking walls, collections of tiki mugs past and present for purchase, a central square bar with plenty of stools, and seemingly small dark nooks and private spaces where naughty things could happen. No natural lighting whatsoever while an assortment of extremely low-lit electric lights barely guided you along. There were no TVs while I recalled various styles of music played in the background along with chatter and clamor of conversations in all directions. ATTIRE Although I was actually dressed appropriately for the occasion in an aloha shirt, linen pants, and flip-flops, this place was totally casual, so a t-shirt, boardshorts, and flip-flops would suffice. OVERALL I had a cowabunga time at Stowaway, and I couldn't wait to return to try more of their awesome-soundling elixirs. I loved tiki bars, and although this was generally out of my range, I'd make a special trip or two here. My one drink was lip-smacking good, the pupus were yummy, the prices were reasonable enough, the atmosphere was stupendous, and the service was friendly and professional. While the drinks menu was loaded with tropical cocktails, an impressive rum selection, and a decent assortment of local craft beers, the food menu was somewhat limited. And, the bar had happy hour TU-FR 4pm-6pm. Plus, I always preferred to support small local mom & pop businesses. I found complete value based on the prices, service, and experience noted above (TOTAL paid experience was around $75.00 BEFORE any discounts and/or tip). And, they accepted my credit card of choice... AMEX! 5.0 STARS

Cocktails: The current theme is classic cocktails, and the space definitely leans into that old school martini bar vibe, very classy. Drinks were solid. I ordered the mango cocktail (can't remember the name) and it was a little on the sweet side, but not overly so. Still enjoyable. Service: This is really why I'm writing the update. Erica was our server and she was AWESOME. She noticed my friend's steak was overcooked and immediately replaced it even though he said he'd eat it because he was starving. That kind of attention and care is rare. Someone please give her a raise. Parking: They validate if you park in the Marriott lot Vibe: For a Thursday night, it was surprisingly busy in the lounge, in a good way. Tons of people out and about adding to that chill, lively Thursday evening energy. I loved the blue glow from the outdoor fire pits. Next time, I'm definitely taking my YNK drink outside for a few sips.

Checked on us multiple times in addition to letting us know additional specials not listed on the menu and checking on us before social hour ended. We got the short rib croquettes and the slider flight. All were excellent tasting. The short rib was tender and the potatoes were well seasoned. The burger was my favorite sandwich on the flight. It was tender and juicy and very flavorful. The pork belly sandwich was also nice. The Nashville hot chicken has a kick to it in case you like a bit of spice. The pricing was very reasonable as the flight was only $13. The food was so tasty that I will definitely be back for the social hour but I also want to try their usual menu as well. Parking is in a lot connected to the building. You'll need to grab the ticket to enter the structure but the restaurant validates parking.

For happy hour, there is a variety of familiar simple bites to choose from. We ordered the sliders flight which includes a normal cheeseburger, fried chicken, and pork belly. We also ordered the sea bass crudo which had a tangy, oceanic flavor, highlighting lightness and simplicity. The short rib croquettes were crispy on the outside and warm on the inside. The flavors of each dish did not stand out and were primarily bland, especially the sliders flight. To add, the sauce that was to be paired with the croquettes was extremely cheesy. The taste of the food was uninspiring. When seated in the patio area by the hostess, we were not greeted by any waiter/waitress. For 15 minutes, we were left in a state of confusion. The other servers who were tending to other parties did not even care to see if we were taken care of yet. I had to go inside and self-initiate a conversation with someone at the station to get our order moving along.

Our server was also the bartender, Javier, who was really on top of everything and even indulged in a little movie chat with us. We were never forgotten being the only ones sitting outside. The food was really great and was served in a timely manner. I got the Fork and Knife burger. Let me tell you, wow! It was spectacular! They have a nice variety of dishes to eat as well as drinks! I would definitely recommend this place!

We had a noon reservation for a large team lunch (party of 14). Upon arrival, the main indoor…read moredining area was relatively empty, though the patio was completely packed--clearly, it's the popular spot. The restaurant has a lovely atmosphere, and I can easily see it being a great date spot in the evening. Because our group was so large, I couldn't sample or photograph every dish, but here is my breakdown of the items ordered near my end of the table: 01. Arugula Salad (half) $8.00 - 3 Stars - Light and exceptionally simple, topped with red onions and parmesan cheese. Frankly, it was a bit too simple, the dressing was entirely unmemorable. 02. Prime Rib Dip $25.50 - 3 Stars - This arrived looking very promising. The fries were perfectly crisp, and the creamy horseradish packed a powerful punch (it will definitely clear out your sinuses). Unfortunately, the thinly sliced meat was slightly overcooked, dry, and a bit chewy. While the au jus was flavorful, I've definitely had better prime rib dips elsewhere. 03. Spicy Fried Chicken Sandwich $20.50 - 2 Stars - This was the biggest disappointment of the lunch. It looked great initially, but hiding a layer of mashed potatoes underneath the chicken was a strange choice that made the bottom bun instantly soggy. The chicken itself lacked crunch, likely because it was completely doused in what tasted like standard Frank's RedHot sauce (tangy and vinegar-forward, but not actually spicy). No wonder there are barely any photos of this online; I wouldn't order it again. 04. Lobster Roll $32.00 - 3 Stars - Beautifully presented with large chunks of lobster and a side of sweet potato fries. However, at this price point, it felt overpriced for the portion size. The flavor was a bit bland and lacked a "wow" factor. While I appreciated the use of butter lettuce to keep the roll from getting soggy, the lobster meat didn't actually fill out the bread end-to-end. On the bright side, the butter sauce was quite good. 05. Creme Brulee $12 - 3 Stars - A very standard crème brûlée with a decent portion size. It was served completely chilled, which threw off a few of my colleagues. While it's traditionally served chilled, some places serve it closer to room temperature, so this really just comes down to personal preference. 06. Fresh Seasonal Cobbler $12.00 - 3 Stars - As a massive fan of cobblers, I was underwhelmed. The berries were cooked down so much that they lost their form entirely, taking on a jam-like consistency. The crust layer was incredibly thin and soggy, making the whole dessert feel mushy. Luckily, the vanilla ice cream helped cut through the intense sweetness, but overall it was just okay. LOCATION/PARKING - The restaurant sits right on the corner and shares a parking structure with Monaco, The Trough, and Izakaya Osen. Valet parking is available, and the restaurant validates for 90 minutes. CUSTOMER SERVICE - The service seems to depend heavily on who you get. While the staff was generally friendly, they weren't particularly attentive, and we constantly had to ask for refills. To be fair, assigning just one server to a party of 14 is a tough ask, this venue is likely better suited for smaller groups. VERDICT - Overall, the menu feels a bit overpriced for the quality of the food. If my team decides to host another lunch here, I wouldn't object to returning.

Overall, the food, drinks, and atmosphere were great, but unfortunately the hostess experience kept it from being a full 5-star night. I had a 7:30 reservation and arrived at 7:35, but waited nearly 10 minutes before being acknowledged. The hostess was quite rude and told me we had lost our table because we were "late," even though I had been standing there waiting to be helped. She eventually seated us at a dirty table and the overall interaction felt unprofessional and unwelcoming. Thankfully, our server Omar completely turned the night around -- he was kind, attentive, and very helpful. The manager Dave was also amazing and made sure we were taken care of. The food and drinks were excellent. The cocktails were delicious, the hummus with warm pita was fantastic (definitely ask for extra bread!), and the melted cheese with toasted bread was a highlight. The fries were uniquely cut and perfectly cooked, and the calamari was top-notch. The view and ambiance make this a great place to relax with friends over tapas and drinks. I would come back again for the quality of the food, the beautiful setting, and the wonderful service from Omar -- but I do hope management addresses the front-host experience, as it really sets the tone for the evening.

When I said "Bar" and "Santa Ana" in the Yelp search - of course it said "Club 616" in the first…read morespot - OF COURSE IT SAID 616!!! I was lucky enough to stumble across this gem of the center of OC when they first opened - and I am proud to be a regular here. I don't know how to go somewhere else - because I feel like the staff are giant gems in this jewel of a spot. Winters is a curator of boozy information that has helped me learn about "gin" and "root beer whiskey" so I can sound like an adult-ish purveyor, when really I know close to nothing except being a willing student to his creations. Dan the Man and Jacob always see me raise my hand in the corner of the bar, like the student I am, and have been willing to fill in the blanks for me when I know I am of thirst, but do not have the words for what to order. Every person working in the well has treated me with kindness - they have taken the time to get to know me, and I will be forever appreciative of how they have taken care of me over the years. But the real joy has been the transformation that this spot has for building a community of people in Santa Ana for real recognizing real. I have been bringing my Dad with me to play pool for the past few years. Sometimes people ask me if he plays professionally, I am terrible, and my skill incline is slow, he is patient and plays with the same level craftiness that the staff offer the cocktails. My Dad is always stoked when we have time to go have a few hours of games at 616 - especially now that there are regulars on 4th street that are excited to see that he is there playing - and they rush to write their names on the chalkboard to challenge him - or beat him in a game they really earned the W. On lazy Sundays, I watch couples sit with their drink, listening to Jazz, and watching my Dad whoop my ass while making amazing shots. I am forever grateful to Memo who sometimes takes a break from his shift behind the bar to give my dad an actual challenge - which allows me the chance to watch my Dad enjoy fellowship around the table. Knowing the table was a relic of the bars former self, and knowing the history that this spot has in Santa Ana is a reminder that so much around us can change - but it is those moments of the crack of the rack, the cheer of getting the combo shot, and the shake of hands when it's over that shows that it's not just about the pool table - but about the energy of a place that is welcoming and curated by people who care about what they do - and care about who comes through their doors. Thank you Jason and Mike B to bringing this to 4th St and supporting the community that was already here - and for building a community for the future. Thank you to Christina and Brandon for always having amazing pictures, decor, and fun events at 616 that help introduce new folks into this great spot. Time is short. Learn about Root Beer Whiskey.
