Went here for the first time with some work colleagues for dinner and drinks, and really loved this place. Very close to the OC airport, Bosscat is kind of tucked away in the mix of businesses, hotels, and office building adjacent to the airport. Not sure I ever would have driven by this place by accident. They have their own parking lot, which had sufficient open spaces the evening we were there. It's also walking close to the Hyatt Regency and the Renaissance hotels. Nice place inside, dark colors, casual enough for shorts and a t-shirt, but nice enough for business attire. They have a patio area, a nice large bar that is kind of the center of the room, and lots of seating around. The staff were all super friendly. The menu is not extensive, but does have a good selection to go with whatever you are drinking. And seriously, if you go here you need to have a drink or two. They have a full bar with all the usual liquors, seemed to have a good beer selection, but the star of this show is the whisky. They have a separate whisky room, which our server was more than happy to guide us to and then helped us select some upscale and seldom-found choices in a restaurant. Best whisky selection I've seen in a restaurant in a very long time. Should mention the food was very good as well. I had a burger, which was a very good gourmet / gastro-pub type of burger. If you like whiskey I totally recommend this place but if you're just going for food then I don't. The food is beyond average and for what you're paying for it, it's not worth it. I'm in my mid 20's and went with friends, we're servers so we enjoy tipping especially for good service. Our server didn't really check on us and would disappear for a long time, probably because he just assumed we wouldn't tip since we w oak and young . Fortunately, we still tipped him but would have preferred better service if our tab is over $400. read more

4 stars because the food was good but the noise level was I unbearable sometimes. I know it's a Sunday hang out, chill type place but it just so loud. On top of that a dj was playing. I guess it's ok for some people but for me and my friend it was waaaayyy too loud and didn't expect it to be that loud. People just try to talk over all the noises. I was able to hear the whole conversation from the 2 tables on either side. Lol The food was good, but not great. I've had better fries to be honest. We got the donut burger and the maui meatloaf. The donut burger was not what we expected but was a nice combination, my friend ate the top half of the donut later. My meatloaf was good. Good flavors. For drinks we had mimosas and it had a good ratio in the mix. The service was good. The staff was friendly and attentive. we came here one time, long long ago, and i remember not liking it very much, other than the portobello mushroom fries then my wife had some friends in from out of town and they ordered me something to go: the gold medal chicken sandwich, and aside from some dry/overcooked areas on the outside edges, this was a _very_ enjoyable sandwich! specifically, the thick cuts of lettuce bacon and tomato on it was so good and fresh tasting; super refreshing, when i was just looking for something basic and fine but the reason i'm leaving a review here today is for their quinoa and mushroom burger: wow? this is really something else. i like seabirds and tolerate other vegan/vegetarian restaurants but dude, this thing is gooood. my wife says it's because they didn't try to make it taste like a burger (those end up tasting like an oversalted mess), and instead it just is what it is with more veggies and sauce and i think that's about as good of a description as i'll be able to muster, a few weeks removed. it's going to be hard to not order this again next time -- when, because of it, i want to try so many other things to see if they stack up what was likely going to be a 3 shot right up to a 4+, and with over 4000 reviews and an overall 4.5 rating i'm probably not adding very much, but here it is thank you so much for the great sandwiches, can't wait to come back and try out more of your menu! read more

Most expensive $90 I've spent in a restaurant, EVER! I truly wish I could undo our lunch at this place today. We are not local to Newport Beach and came here when in the area and after seeing its high rating and high number of reviews. So sorry to say that this was one of the rare occasions Yelp failed us. Awful tasting food, watered down drinks and very loud music. It is more like a bar than anything else. I would not name this place Bosscat "KITCHEN" if I was going to blast the music like a club. We were in town for a hockey tournament so as usual I turned to Yelp for a great place to eat. We went in on a Friday afternoon and got a table right away. Kate was our waitress and she was AMAZING. Friendly, helpful, honest, she recommended all the things she loved and was so enthusiastic about them. She took my husband to their whiskey room so he could check out the bottles on the wall and decide what he wanted. If every waitress (or even just human being) in the world was like Kate, the world would be a better place. We ordered the Brussels sprouts as an appetizer, and they were probably the best ones we've ever eaten. They are not light though, they're very hearty, so if you're going for light, these aren't it. The second appetizer we got was the pig candy. So tasty. We also had both the fried chicken sandwich and the grilled chicken sandwich, and the burger. Everything was fantastic. They have great cocktails and a nice list of whiskey and scotch. We even ordered dessert - the fried apple pie was to die for, so was the banana pudding. The red velvet churros were just okay. The one and only thing we didn't absolutely love. We loved it so much we even came back for brunch the next day. The brunch menu was good, but if I had my choice I prefer their regular menu. (The regular menu isn't available during brunch hours.) Thanks guys for giving us such great meals while we were away from home. Definitely coming back on our next trip down. read more

Bosscat is a vibe! It's got a great feel to it. Whether you sit at the bar or in the outside area, there are velvet couches and lots of greenery. Nice bartenders when I have gone. I don't care for the brunch items as they are pretty heavy but do love the dinner menu. They have fun drinks tho for brunch. Bring your ticket in from parking and they will validate it even if you valet. read more

Quick sit down with mom for happy hour. Server seemed rushed and the beignets were raw; sent them back and after the server apologized, I just had one drink and couldn't be bothered with food. The Moscow Mule was average. The environment was EXTREMELY dark at 5pm while the sun was out. An unfortunate experience. Kitchen was probably backed up, as food took forever. Poor follow up - I could have ordered more wine to pass the time but they didn't even ask. I don't eat beef, and so ordered the mushroom chilaquiles - but they brought the short rib version and I took a bite of beef for the first time in 8 years. Still freaked out about it. One of my favorite places in Orange county. I been coming here since they opened. I can truly say the entire menu is phenomenal. I recently brought my Best friend to this place and she loved it! The environment is great also great for big groups. Zalina and I tried the chilaquiles and the bottomless mimosas! They were Superb! You need to try the Red velvet churros! Meh. This place is definitely a VIBE, just not for me. I came here for their brunch. You can only order off the brunch menu which isn't that large. This was fine except for the fact that they were out of the burrito, meatloaf, country steak and one other thing (basically half of the menu) which was a bummer and didn't leave us with many options. My friend got the vegetable omelette and I got their pork chilaquiles, both were okay. It was crowded, but I had made a reservation so that was no problem. My biggest issue is that they blast music from the speakers. It's almost like a club atmosphere. My friend and I were practically shouting at each other. They have a full-service bar and sports on the TV, so it seems like you could stay here for a long time drinking if you wanted to. But it's not for me and I don't plan coming back. read more

My first experience here was not what I expected. I've heard of bosscat from friends and they said the food is good so they'll go if they are in the area. I went with a group and we made a reservation. First surprise, the music is so LOUD here. So if you DON'T want to speak anyone you come here with, its great (side eye). Or you can just yell at each other lol Our server was nice but we had trouble hearing him because of the music being so loud. Also, the restaurant unexpectedly dimmed the lights so low while the sun was shining still outside so it was very odd and noticeable. I saw another customer have to turn on his flashlight on his phone to look at the menu unfortunately. We did ask the manager if there was a table outside available to hopefully escape the noise, he said no so I just took for how it is. The manager here is definitely why I'm leaving low stars. From the start, not so welcoming and off but shrugged it off. Our party ordered plenty of food and drinks throughout our time there. Later in our meal, our server had taken another round of drink orders as well. Just minutes later, the manager comes to us and tells us he has a reservation in 15 mins and he needs our table? I was so confused by this. Why would you approach a table who has an incoming order that was taken and has consistently ordered throughput their time there. Our drinks finally come and I don't think customers should be rushed to chug their drinks and eat their food based on the restaurant's poor planning. As we're signing the check to leave, the manager approaches again and his interaction with us in short was so unprofessional and rude it was unbelievable. I won't be back and won't recommend it. There are plenty of other places nearby for drinks and food that I would love to support instead, and I think others should do the same. read more

First off, we did not have a bad time. The reason for the score is because it is very high priced and the food was just not very good. It took a while before we were greeted and got water. The server who helped us was very nice, but he spoke WAY TOO FAST. We got the strong sense that is just the way he speaks, but he speaks so extremely quickly that is just a very rushed, panicked vibe. My wife ordered a cocktail and did not like it, and the server was kind enough to remove it from the bill which was very nice of him. He knew the menu well, he just comes off way too panicked and rushed. The food was very high priced, which is fine if the flavor delivers but it lacked the tasty burst of flavor you expect from a restaurant with prices like these. Overall, it was ok but we will not be going back again. 2/5 read more

Came here for happy hour to catch up with a friend. We got drinks to start. Since it was early, not many patrons were around which was nice. We can actually talk and hear each other. Now, drinks! I was proposed and talked into getting their ginger beer since it's all in house and supposedly good. They have it on tap which is already a danger sign for me. Nonetheless, I still tried it and yep... suspicions were confirmed. It had this unique taste to it and I thought it was ok. I appreciate that the ginger beer is made in house but it didn't do it for me. I make this drink at home and can make it so much better. My friend just ordered a craft beer which was a safe route. I did order an appetizer but somehow, never made it to me. Decided to let it be and close out our tab. Enjoyed the convo and environment bit the products were barely at par. Saturday Brunch is great! $34 for bottomless mimosas and an entree. The staff were AMAZING. Brittany was our server, she was so nice and accommodating to our large party. Timmy helped us out with our seating and got a special drink just for our birthday girl. Rashan one of the bartenders was super funny, he treated everyone at the table to a round. Really good hipster bar in the OC. The drink menu is good, as is the food menu. I was there on a Tuesday night and sat at the bar. I thought the bartenders could be a little more friendly given their styles of cocktails. They purport to be a whiskey/bourbon bar and many of their cocktails are based around it. I had a pretty good tequila/mezcal drink as well as a couple of vodka sodas. They were good. My bartender had a good pour. The tuna wraps were delicious and light. The Brussels sprouts were really good too. The cheese and bacon were awesome on the perfectly roasted sprouts. I felt as if I was eating healthy. Like I said, geared toward the OC hipsters and the Barbie dolls. The decor is nice and the drink prices are typical for Irvine. Worth a try. read more
