The three cheese breakfast sandwich is always my favorite! The honey oat bagel is the best! They have a lot of tea flavors but my favorite is the iced green tea. This would be a great place to sit and study because they have free wifi and they have big tables. I gave this place a four because they are usually out of whatever bagel flavor I request! Although the bagel sandwiches are tasty, I'd prefer to eat them on my first choice bagel flavor. They usually make the sandwiches pretty quickly so that is nice! read more

Underwhelming sums it up. I got the only vegetarian item on the menu and it made the most common and most irritating mistake: lots of boring veggies, not much else. It was a wrap with tons of lettuce, and a teeeeny bit of hummus and some other vegetables. I love my veggies, don't get me wrong, but there was NO flavor and it was very dry. I didn't end up finishing. And as someone else mentioned, the pickles were.. ehhh. My mother got a tuna melt which she seemed to like, so props to them for that. read more

I take my family to the Boston Bean House each Saturday morning. It's family run (father / son), has terrific coffee (they even steam the milk for my kids' hot chocolates), and best of all, the food is wonderful. I'm a Starbuck's fan, but I don't like any of the food selections there. In this busy world, it's nice to have somewhere like the Bean House to relax at. My one wish is that they would add more low-fat options, but those are hard to find anywhere. read more

Boston Bean has the feel of a well loved coffee go-to spot for locals. Being new to Maynard it took me a while to finally check it out. Their coffee is great but I must admit they miss the mark on the standard bagel and cream cheese. As a self proclaimed bagel and cream cheese connoisseur, I was quite disappointed with their lackluster rendition of chive cream cheese featuring dried chives. What a disappointment. Skimping on something so simple is a no brainer. The dried chives do nothing to enhance the flavor of the plain cream cheese. It also blows me away that BBH has such limited hours. This exactly the kind of place I'd enjoy reading at or catching up on some work. I wish there hours were better, this could be a really good spot for young professionals. read more

I have eaten at this establishment multiple times recently. I have found the food to be comparable or better than the prior owners - in particular I have had two sandwiches that were amazing. My only complaint with BBH is that there is inadequate air conditioning. They have one small window unit for a relatively large space, so to me at least it is a little stuffy on a hot humid day. read more

People are complaining about the wait... this is what happens when food is actually FRESH, it might take a little longer than slapping mayo and a chicken patty on a bun. My husband and I passed through this tiny cute town the other day and stopped here for lunch. FIrst impression it's very tidy and cute with a great selection of food. One of the reasons I am rating this place 2 stars is due to the encounter I had with the woman taking my order. She was rude, did not listen at all to my order, and then when I paid she told me to put my change in the tip jar!! ha! are you KIDDING ME?! who does that?! I am never disappointed with service. Honestly this establishment earned my respect. My father was a frequent flier and loved this place for breakfast. Dad wasn't big on coffee, let alone paying for it, but he love going to the Bean House. After my fathers passing the Bean House reached out to me and offered to host my dad's reception after his funeral. They served a beautiful array of sandwiches, sides and beverages to all that attended. It's amazing the kindness and generosity of the owners to offer such condolences. I watched the person behind the espresso machine pour about 4 ounces from one double basket. Why do all of these cafes west of Boston have manual espresso machines if they don't bother with using them correctly? Who is selling this stuff and convincing owners it's good idea? Some businesses just shouldn't have real machines. There are so many indie shops out in this area and they are all seem to fumble around when trying to make coffee. The menu says "nectar of the gods" next to espresso. How is a 4 ounce 40 second shot an excuse for "nectar of the gods"? Please stop fooling around and figure out how to use your Linea. read more

I like to give establishments another shot if they seem like they are having a bad day. Well I have done that with the Boston Bean House. I have been to this coffee house multiple times. And I must say, on every occasion except one I have been treated with such disdain, ill regard and just plain rudeness that I am compelled to tell people about this experience. My companions and I have ordered a variety of sandwiches at this establishment on prior visits. They have all been mediocre at best. Despite this lack of culinary expertise, my main concern today was to get a good latte for myself and my traveling companions. I was willing to overlook the Boston Bean House's sad sandwiches and overpriced salads but I will not accept disrespectful treatment. And today was the last straw. I ordered a caramel latte and when I received the drink it had no flavor whatsoever. None. I was trying to be kind as the female server wore an unhappy and bored expression, so when I approached her, I mentioned very softly that my drink didn't taste at all like caramel. And she looked at me and said strongly: "Oh that's interesting" and then turned away. Just plain ignored me. Really?? This was customer service? I had just paid almost $20 for three drinks and I was being treated as if I had just asked for a second plate of free bread when I had only bought a soda. However I persevered and continued trying to treat hostility with kindness. I then said to the server "Perhaps I haven't stirred my drink enough" and walked towards the condiment area. I took a deep breath, said a small prayer and tried my latte again. It still tasted of nothing. This was very unfair!! I had paid good money for this drink and it was not what I ordered. At this point I had come to the end my rope and I was starting to unravel. I went back to the counter and asked directly that more caramel be put into the drink. I was happy to pay for any "extra" cost. However, the server sniped back "Well I already put a lot of it in before". Now, Is this customer service professional judging my syrup consumption? How rude!! I watched as she attempted to add more syrup and saw that the syrup bottle was almost empty. With each additional pump, the straw made a gurgly sound, as if it were gasping for air. This is how I felt, dear readers and at this point I need to make my exit from this subpar establishment. The moral of this tale is if you have a choice, please do not come to the Boston Bean House. There is a good chance you will be treated with such disregard that I fear I have not felt this low in quite some time. Perhaps visiting the Boston Bean House leads to depression? As many other reviewers have said, I really wanted to like this place even in spite of their excessively high prices. After a handful of times going there unfortunately I have to finally give up on it. As stated by another reviewer, the woman who appears to be the owner is completely rude. It seems as though she's bothered by the fact that she has to be working there. I too saw her roll her eyes in disgust at the customer before me who had to leave due to a child acting up. I proceeded to order one of their "specials" which was a sandwich with chips and a cookie...that's a nice idea, but I personally find it very strange to get two "sides" instead of a drink. I asked the rude lady if there was any possible way to negotiate a drink instead of a cookie, I'd even fork over more cash! but she wasn't having it. My friend who ordered after me got her sandwich in about 5 minutes, 20 minutes later (after numerous other orders were called) mine was finally called. I double checked with one of the random, sleepy workers there to make sure someone else hadn't accidentally taken my order - he let me know that hot chicken means the sandwich takes longer. Hm. my friend's sandwich also had hot chicken but, we'll agree to disagree. Finally I'm granted my 20 minute late, 9 dollar sandwich, and there's no pickle. I innocently inquired if there was supposed to be a pickle included - to which they informed me that specials do not come with pickles...this seems less and less "special" as I find out the fine print on this sandwich! Long-winded belly aching, but all in all this sandwich shop leaves a lot to be desired. Unfortunately, the iced coffee here is lackluster compared to the delicious java down the street at La Mattina. Still, going to Boston Bean makes me feel better about living in the suburbs. I wouldn't say I come here all of the time, but when in dowtown Maynard, I will often find myself in for a Mocha. They do it really well, and the staff is UBER nice. The owner is so nice, and the girl (originally for CO) is very cool. We had a sandwich at one time and it was fresh and yummy. Super clean establishment, and great selections. They recently expanded to Sundays and it is working for them. They were packed at 1pm. The only bummer is parking.. it's a bummer in the cold weather or with kid in tow... but they are worth the effort! read more

Nice atmosphere with yummy sandwiches. We went at breakfast and had the BLT and the Greek wrap and both were great. The coffee is good, but not as good as at Serendipity - so if you're a coffee snob (like my boyfriend), go across the street. If not (like me), you likely won't notice a difference. Biggest gripe by far and really the reason we likely won't go back is that they give out to-go cups for coffee even for customers staying there to eat. They have mugs for cappuccinos, but just a normal coffee gets a paper cup. This is unnecessarily wasteful and a big pet peeve. read more

I've been working in Maynard for 17+ years and have been to "The Bean" a lot, mostly for lunch. Many people here at Mill and Main (nee Clock Tower Place) seem to love "The Bean." I agree with many of the posters here that the staff is unfriendly and seems annoyed if you have any dietary needs that don't mesh with their preset menu. Although the inside is pleasant and seems like it would be a nice place to hang out, they certainly don't create a welcoming atmosphere and give the impression that they would be most happy if you just ordered the easiest thing, paid them the expensive price and left quickly. They are always eager to close up as soon as possible too. I wish they would sell it to new owners that would install Wi-Fi, some couches and create a warm and welcoming environment, Maynard needs a place like that and I hate to think that we'd have to have Starbucks come in just to get it. I know for sure that because of the rudeness of the staff and owners that I won't go back and I certainly wouldn't recommend it to anyone. Bummer. read more

This is a wonderful place and we're so glad it's in our town! Went here for the first time to get some espresso, which totally defines a coffee place. DO NOT patronize this place. First, they gave me guff for paying cash for my delivery- "He wants to be able to just get in and out." Bear in mind that they charge an extra two bucks for this "service." My overpriced wrap arrived a hour later (I'm across the street). It was practically empty and not even put together!
