Went to sail loft based on multiple recommendations but everything fell flat for me. I got the lobster roll which tasted like frozen lobster with no flavor. The roll was huge though. Its been 5 days since I ate at Boston Sail Loft and I'm stillllll thinking about it. Whenever I see a top 5 list on google, I'm a little skeptical about it being overrated but this was NOT the case at all. Firstly, while some may find it inconvenient that Boston Sail Loft doesn't take reservations, it ended up making my stay in Boston easier because most of the other top rated places to eat have been booked months in advance. I was able to place a reservation and wait the hour at my hotel and return to have my table ready for me. Now let's get started on the ambiance. I felt like I was instantly transported to a spot outside of the city and that of maine. The restaurant is essentially a little house perched on the dock of the bay. It seemed that you can even get a seat on the deck when it's not raining. I absolutely loved that the loft had windows from the ceiling to the floor so I could enjoy the view of the water and it had a bit of a sailor theme with its white and blue plates. Now for the FOOD. I ordered the New England Lobster Roll and it was so juicy. The coleslaw was also some of the best I've had and I would've never thought I'd want to eat a coleslaw that has raisins in it?? I also tried one of the specials which was the BBQ Glazed Salmon and it was another absolute hit. I'm not usually someone who likes seafood because I'm not keen on the fishy taste, but everything tasted so fresh and was seasoned so properly. Even the fries were great!! Throughout the whole meal, I just recall everyone saying "this is the best '----' I've ever had." To top off the experience, we had the best waitress ever. She was so kind and once she understood our sense of humor, she joined into our conversation and recommended some spots to visit on our trip. They said the burgers were perfectly cooked and absolutely delicious. Ziti with Marinara (Kids' Meal) - This was a large portion and my toddler really enjoyed it though it was too much for her to finish. For less than $10, it was a great deal for what you get. Bathroom Situation: The stalls were very tight even for one person. I struggled to help my toddler use the toilet so keep this in mind if you're visiting with little kids. I got the cup of soup (I love soup in a mug) and a half sandwhich. I opted for the tuna salad, but I do really wish they offered a half lobster roll and a cup of chowder because the lobster roll looked heavenly! The chowder was great! It was rich, dill heavy, had plenty of clams and potatoes, and came with crackers. The tuna sandwich was fine, nothing spectacular but also it's a tuna sandwich so it met expectations. The fries were an unexpected surprise and they were lovely and well seasoned. I will say the pickle was the worst pickle I've ever had. My face made such an expression that it alarmed my friends. It has zero dill flavor, which is shocking because the chowder had lots of dill, it tasted like it was brined in sea water with no other flavorings, and the edges were crisp like a cucumber and only the center was almost gooey soft. We stopped by around noon on a Sunday and had about a 45 minute wait, which wasn't bad at all. Once seated we looked over the menu and knew we wanted the clam chowder as that's what they're known for. We also ordered the appetizer platter to share with the popcorn shrimp, calamari and potato skins. The chowder was so good! Definitely worth the hype. The potatoes are a great touch and there's just enough clam that's it's not overwhelming either. We had the lobster roll on a soft brioche roll stuffed with lobster and you can have it hot or cold. Each roll comes with fries and a coleslaw. We also had their yummy clam chowder with dill. We asked the hostess, Hailey, for a table inside, and she told us there was no availability. She seated us on the patio in the blazing sun instead. After sitting there for a few minutes, we went back and asked if we could be moved inside. Again, Hailey said there was no availability. Since we were hungry, we decided to order a cup of chowder, assuming it would be served quickly. Literally a minute later, two younger men walked in and asked for a table inside. Hailey's attitude and the "lack of availability" changed instantly. She smiled and said, "Sure, right this way," and seated them indoors. I asked why they were able to sit inside when we had been told there was no availability just moments earlier. Hailey replied that because we had already placed our order, we could no longer change tables--that was "the rule." I pointed out that we had requested an indoor table again just before the two men arrived, but she simply said she couldn't accommodate us. Whether it was poor judgment, inconsistent application of the rules, or something else, the experience left us feeling that we were treated differently. Saw this place on Yelp and wanted to try out what Boston had to offer with seafood. Lobster Bisque was not too sweet and had huge pieces of lobster. It was good, but not great. The clam chowder was delicious, I don't know if I've ever had a better clam chowder. I mean wow! Also got the lobster roll. I ordered it warm with butter. It came loaded with lobster and the bun was extremely soft. What I'm realizing is that I'm not the biggest lobster fan, but this was good. Only two negatives: 1. Windows were open so it was chilly in the restaurant. 2. As I was finishing the lobster roll, I pulled a hair out of my mouth that was about 4" long. I know it wasn't mine, since I'm bald haha. I went here on a Saturday night after seeing that clam chowder online. I was visiting Boston for the weekend and really wanted to make sure I tried clam chowder before I left upon walking into the restaurant. It was very busy and we were quoted a weight of about an hour. We put our name on the list and walked around the nearby harbor and waited. The time went by pretty quickly and after about 40 minutes we were able to be sat. Let me just say that the customer service at this restaurant was phenomenal and stuck out from the first interaction with the host. I believe the manager was assisting him as well and both of them were very hospitable, kind and helpful. When we were seated, they gave us a great table where we could view the water. Our server only added to the great customer service that we experienced. I ordered the lobster roll with clam chowder both which were good. Their fries are a little thicker than I like, but they give you a good amount. My husband ordered a shrimp wrap that was super tasty. There was a slightly fishy smell to the place, but that's to be expected and you honestly get used to it within a couple minutes. But the food makes up for it tenfold. We must've drew the straw for the newbie waitress and we had her all confused about beer selections and the menu items. Walked in and got a high top without any wait. A few tables on the deck but if you're not at the one table getting sunlight then it would be chilly.
