What a cool little restaurant along the wharf in downtown. Parking and driving are a pain but there's a lot up the street for $18 My childhood was largely spent in and around seafood and the New England area. Fresh shellfish and fish a part of life. Miss that. The place was packed at noon and for good reason. Food is excellent and service 5 stars. The chowder is a dill-ish take on the classic but loaded with clams and a great starter. Plus, whole belly fried clams, not crappy strips. I inhaled this. Can't get this in Florida :( A beer and a glass of rose...a slice of heaven. read more

This area is popping on the weekends! Parking is difficult so we ended up just paying for the lot ($18+) after circling around the block a few times. We arrived fairly late at night around 9:30pm and were seated right away. Service was good and food came out quickly. We ordered Clam Chowder based on reviews and it did not disappoint! We also ordered the New England Lobster Roll, which I thought was overpriced but good enough. The fries were nice because they were crispy and thick. After eating we walked around North End to explore the area. Definitely worth checking out if you are a tourist here! read more

I'm hard to please and can say this was EXCEPTIONAL service and food. From the moment we checked in, the manager was friendly, energetic and accommodating. We were told there would be a wait but the manager clarified and got us seated immediately. The waitress then took over and was just as friendly and helpful. Our food came out within 10 minutes and was delicious- all the while both the waitress and host checked in on us, went the extra mile to give our kids Oreos and generally were just good humans. It's been a long time since we genuinely just had a nice time solely because of the folks working at a restaurant, so that was a treat for us. read more

The food was hot and seafood fresh but bland. I had to add a lot of salt! The lobster bisque had chunks of lobster on top but after those were eaten the soup looked and tasted like runny tomato soup. I ordered the fried half and half, the lobster bisque and clam chowder. read more

Staying at the Marriott Long Wharf and wanted to experience some local vibes. Had the half tuna salad sandwich and cup of chowder for lunch. Chowder was their dill speciality and did not disappoint! Seating areas in the front (for lots of people watching), inside (when it's cold!) and 3 small tables on the back deck by the water. Bar is very friendly and can be populated with locals recalling lots of stories :-) Table side payment taken on tablets. Digital jukebox by the bar/entrance when you want some extra fun. Beware of the lingering fruit flys by the bar/sink in the warmer days when the windows are open. BTW, At night last call is usually around 1:45am :-) read more

Normally, I wouldn't opt for chowder, but as it's a house specialty, we decided to share it as an appetizer--and wow, it did not disappoint! It's so popular they even have a waitlist for online orders. As for the rest of the meal, the Caesar salad with added salmon and lobster was divine, especially when paired with a glass of Prosecco--an easy 10/10. The Lobster Mac and Cheese was great and packed with generous chunks of lobster, and perfectly complemented by the Spicy Margarita. Another highlight was the Lobster entrée, we all enjoyed our meals. Service: We arrived on a Wednesday evening and had a brief 20-minute wait. Once seated, we were promptly attended to, and the service remained quick and friendly all evening. On a August Thursday noon, I took advantage of the nice weather for seafood by the waterfront. While busy, Boston Sail Loft had extra seats at the bar for me to snag. I ordered the New England Lobster Roll ($37.95, market price). No, they don't make it Connecticut-style. I received my roll within 5 minutes. The roll itself didn't mess with the classics. Toasted roll, light mayo. The mayo was so light I barely noticed its flavor- perfect to enjoy the generous amounts of lobster, cut into meaty chunks. The accompanying fries were thick-cut and lightly salted, and the coleslaw lightly vinegared with some raisins. read more

Look -- this is a perfectly good place, food-wise, and the staff is super friendly and helpful.... As in, jaw dropping. However, the place is small and cramped, and I just happened to be there with two tables with SCREAMING children .... One of whom could make a living decalcifying spinal columns. The parents thought it was funny. Now look, I know the restaurant cannot control these things, and the server who had the decalcifier was as strung out as the rest of us. I would just tell you to check it out, and keep it casual. My lobster was cooked perfectly and my salad was delicious, with incredible diligence on the part of the manager to find a gluten free dressing. So sweet. Our first clam chowder and lobster roll experience in Boston--and it was so good, we didn't need to go anywhere else! The service was great, and the food was absolutely worth it. I came to Boston thinking I'd have to hop around to find the best clam chowder and lobster roll, but nope--one stop, and we were set! The lobster roll, with its perfectly melted butter and just a hint of salt, was incredible. I'm literally salivating just thinking about it. The clam chowder? Perfection. Wow! This was the best clam chowder I have ever tasted!!! So I had to start with that. SERVICE: Just fabulous. Everyone here was so nice. Took our name and got us a seat in about 15 minutes. Not too bad for lunch time. FOOD: Well you know how I felt about the clam chowder. I also had the lobster roll and it was pretty darn tasty in the coleslaw not too shabby. AMBIANCE: We sat outside on the patio so we didn't get to see too much of the inside, but it's a nice place to see the scenery, look out in the water, and watch the people walk by. This was my final destination before leaving Boston and it did not disappoint!! The lobster roll was phenomenal! Absolutely worth the price with the amount of lobster piled high on the roll! The environment was great! I went on a Sunday for lunch which made it easier to get a table, but if you go for dinner on Friday or Saturday, you will likely have to wait. We were super excited to check this place off our Boston bucket list. We came on Presidents Day around noon and it was packed but thankfully we were able to be seated right away. We got the clam chowder, swordfish sandwich and chicken salad sandwich (as part of the half cup half sandwich). Everything was delicious, well portioned and the service was great as well. Stopped here for lunch luckily no wait on a Monday. Had the clam chowder which supposed to be the best in town and the broiled scrod. As others had pointed it out, the chowder was overloaded w potato. I did like the dill but wasn't crazy about the amount of salt. The scrod (cod in this case) was fresh though fairly standard. Love this spot! It was the first place I ate dinner the very first time I ever came to Boston. Over the years I've tried other spots for lobster rolls, but this is still my favorite! We were super excited to eat here coming all the way from Hawaii. We drove straight from the airport and waited for them to open. The older Caucasian man that assisted us was rude as can be, not friendly at all, even when we left and said thank you, he just looked at us. Maybe since we were not Caucasian?? Since I seen him interact with lots of other customers who were greeted with smiles and friendly manners. To make it worse, the food wasn't that great. Best clam chowder hands down. And what made the lunch even more enjoyable was the hospitality of the owners. We sat there near the entry watching him greet every personally. The number of people he knew by name was impressive - truely amazing food and wonderful family. I have never had fish and chips in my life that were as good. Super popular seafood restaurant on the harbor with great view and rustic atmosphere. Our broiled seafood plate with fish, scallops, and shrimp was under seasoned. It was supposed to be three different fish; however, it was thrown all together so we could not tell them apart at all. The presentation and treatment of the ingredients was poor. All lacked salt; though this benefited scallops since their sweetness was pleasant. The star was the clam chowder! It's presented in an actual cup when one is ordered. While it has plenty of dill, the hearty savory and slightly sweet profile of the clam and potato is fantastic. Forget about anything else, just get claim chowder - it's delicious. read more

I was craving some New England clam chowder and lobster roll and this place certainly hit the spot! We came on a Saturday right after they opened and the restaurant was already buzzing with customers! We were waiting for another friend, but the hostess was kind enough to seat us inside. The service was fast once we got our order in. I got the New England Clam Chowder in a bowl ($8.75) which was big enough to share amongst the 3 of us. The consistency was so creamy and the chowder was loaded with clams! I also got the New England Lobster Roll (~$37.95). You can choose between hot with butter or cold with mayo. I chose cold with mayo and it tasted so refreshing on a hot day. The buttered brioche roll was stuffed with lobster meat as well! They served it with a side of coleslaw and fries. We can't understand why this place has such high ratings. Yes, it is on the water... The end. First they were going to seat us in the dining area in the middle, which I guess has water views. Walking in I could already smell the piss smell from the bathroom located right next to the tables. I can't imagine how anyone could sit near there and not gag the entire time. We moved to a bar top table near the bar. I ordered fish and chips and husband ordered lobster roll plus we each had a beer. My fish and chips smelled so awful. That was not fresh or good fish. It should not smell that badly fishy. I tried eating it. Tried holding my breath, but just couldn't. The lobster roll was just ok. so, $100 later we were duped by the tourist trap I suppose. read more

The family behind The Daily Catch opened their first business in Boston (in the North End) in 1973 - a small storefront selling calamari. Since then, it's become a bit of an institution in Boston, with several locations and now a full-service, large-menued Sicilian-style seafood and pasta restaurant. I waited an hour outside their Brookline location when I ate there years ago, and the wait was worth it. People who have eaten at their North End location may remember waiting for a bit, too. But this Waterfront location? THEY TAKE RESERVATIONS. Hallelujah. We had a reservation for around 8pm on Friday night and were seated at our table right away upon arriving. The restaurant is beautiful but understated - not flashy or too modern - with indoor and outdoor patio seating. The service was top notch. Our server was PJ, and he was incredible - helpful, friendly, always checking in with us. But even other people stopped by to make sure we didn't need anything. The menu is pretty large, and I wanted A LOT OF IT. Unfortunately, we were only two people and had to order responsibly. We shared the stuffed calamari (calamari stuffed with herbed bread crumbs, pine nuts, and raisins, and served in their red sauce); a Caesar salad (classic, and we added anchovies on top); their black pasta aglio olio (ground calamari, extra virgin olive oil, garlic, romano cheese, and parsley); and their monkfish marsala (pan-seared monkfish medallions with mushrooms in a marsala wine butter sauce). What I loved? That stuffed calamari. I had it almost ten years ago when I ate at their Brookline location. I remembered it, and we had it again. It's an incredible dish. There's a reason their black pasta aglio olio is so popular. It's a classic and very delicious. The ground calamari is such a nice touch, and the dish is fresh and super garlicky and delicious. (They serve their pastas in the pan - it's something they are known for - a charming touch!) I also think their drink menu is great. I had a great glass (or two?) of wine white from Sicily (Pietradolce Etna Bianco - a 100% Carricante grape wine from the Northern slopes of Mount Etna), while my husband had a cocktail (or two?). The only thing that kept this from being an absolutely perfect dinner was the monkfish marsala. The monkfish was cooked beautifully cooked, but I found the sauce very off. It was bizarre - it tasted like maple syrup to me. I think the marsala was too sweet or not cooked out enough or - is it possible?! - something was added for additional sweetness and the balance was off. Way too sweet for me with the fish. We ate the fish but tried to get as much off the sauce off as possible. The only miss in a meal that was otherwise wonderful in service, ambiance, food, and drink! The Daily Catch is a classic for a reason. If you've always wanted to try it, this Waterfront location is great - since they do take reservations here! Great Sicilian food in the heart of Boston.

Even at 9 PM, this place was PACKED. Every table seemed to be occupied, and even the outdoor seating was full. Considering how historic and popular this restaurant is, we weren't exactly surprised. Luckily, we had reserved indoor dining, which I highly recommend if you're visiting for the first time. Part of the experience is simply being inside the building. There's so much Boston history and old-school character everywhere you look. The walls are filled with photos and memories of notable guests who have visited over the years, including Jay Leno, Alec Baldwin, Bette Midler, Clint Eastwood, Matt Damon, and many more. It feels like you're having dinner inside a little piece of Boston history. Despite how busy they were, we were warmly greeted and had our table ready within minutes. And then we met Debbie, our server. She was absolutely lovely! Friendly, attentive, welcoming, and genuinely made our final dinner in Boston even more memorable. Sometimes great service completely changes how you remember a restaurant, and Debbie definitely did that for us. Since we had already eaten A LOT throughout the day, my partner and I decided to order several dishes and share everything. Even their warm house-made cornbread with butter deserves some love. There's something about warm cornbread at an old-school New England restaurant that just feels right. And there was absolutely NO WAY we were leaving Boston without ending our final dinner with a Boston Cream Pie. It was the perfect way to cap off not only the meal, but our entire trip. Everything we ordered from start to finish was delicious, but what made this experience especially memorable was the hospitality. Before we left, Debbie gave us a little piece of Boston to take home--an oyster ornament, stickers, and a postcard as a thank-you for dining with them. It was such a sweet and unexpected gesture, especially knowing this was our last meal before leaving Boston. Union Oyster House isn't just somewhere I'd recommend purely for the food. You're coming here for the history, atmosphere, classic New England dishes, and the experience of dining inside an establishment that's been part of Boston for generations. Yes, it's busy. Yes, it's touristy. And there are certainly newer and trendier seafood restaurants around Boston. But that's not really the point of coming here. He did an excellent job on the training board as always, the Fisherman's Platter hit the spot... plenty of fried scallops, clams and shrimp. My sister-in-law had the fish and chips, my girlfriend had the calamari salad, my sister had the buttered lobster roll. All delicious... We ate at Yaki Lobster the next day thanks to a tip from the Uber driver... also excellent... also... My only complaint about Boston Cell Phone is that they failed to change the Allgash White they said was kept for your wheat beeration to be comfortable and quiet. For health reasons it was Blue Me, then (I think) Harpoon's UF and... both reasonably acceptable alternatives, but now these clown shows... and some value... There should be an approach where the standards of maintaining the quality of work and spectrum meet... for clowns it doesn't. You can bettah. We tried the calamari rings, lobster roll, and Sail Loft Cup soup. The calamari was crispy without being overly heavy, the lobster roll was the highlight for me, and the Sail Loft Cup was a great choice alongside the seafood. Service five stars. The sail loft is absolutely disgusting. Overheard employees talking about the ROACH issue they have had for years. Also heard how they stick their fingers In the fries and put them on the plates. The owner and manager Jaime is so mean to his female workers it is a disgrace. They micromanage their employees to a point where I saw a young girl cry because of it. Overall a fucking horrible establishment and team. I feel so bad for that place and the idiotic customers who think it's a real experience of Boston when in reality it's an abusive disgusting environment. I'm quite confused about those good reviews for this restaurant. Lobster Mac and cheese was tasteless. How can you do it wrong, I meant it's Mac and cheese! The service is horrible with too many obnoxious college kids crowd. I felt uncomfortable eating here. The worst clam chowder I've had in Boston, too much corn starch the texture wasn't right. Had a terrible clam chowder a few days ago and really slow service so will not consider a second time. Also, it was overpriced so would rather go back to Yankee Lobster cause their lobster rolls and claim chowder was way way better. Thumbs down on Sail Loft don't bother. read more

I, too, would give this a 4.5 rating if possible. Excellent lobster ravioli, lobster rolls, and the view is amazing. We used to treat ourselves to lunch there on Friday. Serve has slipped a bit, but that's understandable in these times. Highly recommend! read more

I won't say I like it all but it was fun to try. Everything tasted so clean in my stomach too. I wouldn't be bloated or stuffed even after eating a ton. I also appreciate the casual simple vibe of the décor. We ordered: Row 34 oysters, clam chowder, lobster bisque, mussels, fried shrimp, crab cake, peach feta salad, swordfish, crab pasta, and berry cake In the beginning we got two bottles of house hot sauces - green and red. I swear both are not spicy at all. It comes with very very very mild heat but a ton of fresh vegetable flavors and umami plus sweetness. I drizzled both on most of my dishes for fun. I think we got new bottles, and by the end of the meal, I probably used up a quarter of each bottle. Clam chowder stood out to my family the way they used a lot of beans in it rather than adding a ton of flour. I personally am not a bean person so didn't appreciate it, but they did. The lobster bisque was actually added after how much they liked the clam chowder. Mussels weren't as exciting to me but my family quite enjoyed it. I enjoyed eating the bread soaked in jus more (and drizzled a bunch of hot sauce). My personal favorite was the crab pasta. I like how sweet and light the creamy sauce was. It perfectly coated each pasta and the ingredients, making it easy for me to catch everything in one bite. The corn and crab added to the sweetness. Both are ingredients I like so I'm happy to devour the dish. The creamy starch was a good way to round out my meal. We were stuffed but still decided to try out the dessert given how happy we were with the rest of the food. We ended up getting the berry [cake]. It was a bit big and heavy and dense for a dessert. I would happily eat it for breakfast instead. It wasn't too sweet and the berries were naturally tart and sweet. The other dessert items didn't appeal to us, but at the same time makes use think that Row 34 isn't too into the dessert space. My mom wanted some hot tea at the end, so we got her the Iron goddess tea. For $5 (?), we were so impressed how it was loose leaf, and fragrant for 1.5 cups. I've had places that serve tea bags for $10 or something and it tasted bland. Shout out to our server who was still in training when we were there. She was helpful in providing recommendations based on dishes she's tried herself and comments she's heard from other guests. FYI toilets are back in the Commonwealth Hotel.
