Pretty solid seafood shack on the water. The chowder was nice and creamy, dill-forward, but didn't have many clams in it. Lobster roll had a good amount of meat and was dressed with just the right of mayo. I didn't care for the slaw with raisins that came with it, but the fries were alright. Service was friendly and prompt. Space is a no frills, classic NE seafood joint - a touch loud but can still have a conversation. Prices aren't bad for the North End area and portions sizes.
Sometimes the best meals happen completely by accident! We actually ended up here by default because the other place we were planning to go was WAY too busy. And honestly? I'm so glad we came here! First of all, the service was wonderful, and the view was just as amazing. But let's talk about the food... Of course, I had to get the lobster roll, and WOW -- I was in lobster heaven! There was SO much lobster meat packed into that roll. I got it with hot butter, which came on the side, so I could dip every delicious bite. Absolutely perfect! The fries and coleslaw were pretty good too. My sister went with the clam chowder and chicken salad. The cup of clam chowder was HUGE and delicious. She was kind enough to let me have a few bites, but that's where her generosity ended because she happily finished the rest. She also really enjoyed her chicken salad, especially since it was light on the mayo, exactly how she likes it. All in all, this little "backup plan" turned out to be a great decision. No regrets whatsoever! We left full, happy, and very satisfied. Definitely a place I'd come back to!
Food: lobster roll (cold and hot), lobster mac and cheese, New England clam chowder, and Boston cream pie (no whip cream). The lobster roll had huge pieces of lobster and was filled to the brim. It was like eating the sea - so fresh! It came with fries and cole slaw. I didn't care for the slaw because it has raisins in it. Hubby said chowder was good but not the best he ever had. DD liked her mac and cheese. We shared a Boston cream pie with no whip cream. We never had it before. It was pretty good with custard in the center and moist cake and not too sweet. Service: busy place. We waited about 40 minutes to be seated. But our server was very friendly and checked on us a couple times. Ambiance: great location by the water. We had an inside seat. Very loud bar experience. Parking: we parked in a lot not too far down on the same street. They do not validate.
The food was AMAZING! Only thing I was "ehhh" about was the service, and interior ambiance. Could've had a cleaner/ updated vibe. And service was nothing impressive but not bad. I would go again, and recommend to friends!
No reservations accepted, it's first come first serve. You add your name on the waitlist at the host stand. Wait time was about 45mins for a party of 2 on a Sunday around 6p with an increasing wait time. My mom and I ordered the fish and chips and both agreed it was lacking in flavor. The clam chowder was delicious and arrived hot. The fish and chips were lukewarm at best, coleslaw was ok, it has raisins in it, that was unexpected, but wasn't too bad. It's a small restaurant with a 90min limit on tables, food comes out quick. Overall, I'd return for clam chowder and a hot lobster roll that was suggested by the table next to us.

First time ever in Boston and wanted to get the full experience of their seafood. I heard a lot of good things about this place and the long lines. I was a bit hesitant, at first, but it was worth it! We didn't have to wait long at all. There was an opening at the bar, so we took it. I loved how it was right on the water and had a cozy charm to it. I had a Moscow mule, a cup of clam chowder and split the calamari and steamed mussels. Everything was so fresh. I'm glad this was my first food stop in Boston.
Chill ambiance with views of the harbor. The wait time can be quite long. We waited about an hour and a half for a table. I ordered the warm Lobster Roll and New England Clam Chowder. The lobster roll was a solid 3/5 stars but the clam chowder was the star of the show. Easily 5/5 stars... I would go back just for that. It was so flavorful and packed with clams.
THE FAWKIN CLAM CHOWDA! Oh my gawd this was the best clam chowder I think I've ever had (but I'm Minnesotan) we loved dining on the patio and eating a ton of food. We hit it hard getting the clam chowder, lobster roll, lobster Mac and cheese and shrimp entree. The shrimp was delicious as were the fries served with it, nice crispy and seasoned how I like it. I personally wasn't crazy about the Mac and cheese or the roll because I'm not a huge lobster fan BUT my friends said it was delicious and they loved the huge chunks of lobstaaa. Our waiter was super fun and friendly.
This is my second time in Boston and I had to stop by here because on our last trip, we tried so many clam chowders and it was nothing compared to this place!! By far THEE BEST CLAM CHOWDER EVER!! We also ended up getting the lobster roll and holy moly, did you see how much lobster is in that roll?? Unbelievable!! So worth it!! I also never had a boston cream pie before (i know, bummer) so i thought, why not try it here since their lobster roll and clam chowder is superior! Boston cream pie did not disappoint! It was not as sweet as it looks but sweet enough! The service was amazing per usual! Our server is super attentive and even though it was super packed and busy, our wait was only 15m. And ambiance is nice too because it's by the water. Overall, HIGHLY RECOMMEND THIS PLACE!!!!! Everything was 10/10 PERFECTION!!
If I could give this place more stars, I absolutely would. The fact that anyone has anything negative to say about Boston Sail Loft blows my mind. From start to finish, we had an amazing experience here. We ate here on Sunday. They open at 11:30am. We got in line around 11:00 am, and there were already dozens of people waiting in line for them to open . Around opening time, the owner came out and personally greeted everyone as they came into the restaurant. He was so friendly. He greeted passers-by on the street and talked with the locals. The staff was friendly and answered all our questions. They provided recommendations and offered suggestions. We sat at a window table and were able to see out at the boats. It was cute and quaint inside! I got a cup of the clam chowder. I 100% recommend it! They add dill and omit the pork, which made it so delicious! My friend and I split the fish and chips, and it was more than enough for two people. The fish was cooked perfectly and the fries (chips) were crispy without being too crunchy. We added a bit of pepper to our fish, and my goodness does that make a difference. If you visit Boston, want an awesome local establishment with delicious food and overly friendly staff, this is the place for you. This was my third visit to Boston and I'm so sad I didn't know about it sooner. It's a MUST.
Busy restaurant on the water and one of my favorite lobster rolls on this trip. Huge portions and very lively in here. Server was a bit slow but due to the influx from the FIFA fans. Started with the cup of clam chowder that comes dripping from the cup. They use a lot of dill here and come out hot. A bit on the salty side but oyster cracker helps with that. The lobster mac and cheese came with a salad. The lobster mac had a nice broiled cheese top and a creamy inside. Nice lobster and cheesy flavor to it. I got the warm lobster roll and changed it to come with onion rings for $1. The onion rings tasted homemade. Slight crisp to it and thick onions. The lobster roll was massive and the amount of lobster it came with was incredible. Poured the hot butter and squeeze lemon on it for an amazing bite. Would come back here for a larger party to share the plates and order more stuff from here. The lobster bisque is only on the weekends. They have daily menus as well.
Tourist trap. Best clam chowder? I beg to differ, had way better at the Chelsea Market fish market. Our plan was to sit outside at a table on their SIDEWALK area with my 10lb dog in her stroller, but the hostess said, with an attitude, no dogs allowed in the patio area. Patio area? You mean the sidewalk? Isn't the sidewalk a public area? We were confused. We tried to clarify because maybe he was confused? But no, he said no again. My mom was hungry so we opted to get a bowl of chowder to go and we put our name down at the restaurant next door who was UBER dog friendly and even gave my girl a dog bone when we checked in, and lots of pets. Anyways the clam chowder should be renamed to dill chowder because dang, why so much! And hardly any clam, mostly potatoes. Not a fan of the policy or the chowder, would not recommend
Best lobster roll I've ever had! We checked this spot out in 2024 while in town for the New Balance Indoor Nationals. It was so good, that I was determined to visit again in 2025.... And bring friends! Customer service is top-notch at this family-owned spot; we even met the owner (Ryan) who came over and chatted. We got there late with a large party and our server wasn't phased. He was phenomenal. Lobster meat is falling out of the roll because they pack it so high. And the chowder with lump seafood overflows the cup. You will leave stuffed and feeling happy! read more

Loved this restaurant when we were in town 3 months ago we had the lobster roll (warm) and the fisherman plater. I would pass on the lobster roll, the lobster was chewy and tough. Flavor was okay. But for $41.00 I wouldn't get again. The fisherman plater was really good per my husband! Once again we both had the clam chowder if was the best we've ever eaten! The service was great, Caitlyn was our server and was great. The atmosphere was nice, very busy,waited about 30 minutes. read more
Best clam chowder I've had in my life! This place is worth the reviews in the height. I highly suggest going and splitting a lobster roll with someone and getting two bowls of clam chowder. This place is nice and has a cool ambience, very little frills, tiny bathrooms, but the food and the vibe Overall are very fitting. The staff is nice and they were quickly. Oh man were we hungry and a lobster roll sounded too good after walking 6 miles. The clam chowder was creamy albeit not too heavy. The lobster roll was stuffed! The shrimp cocktail was delicious. Great little restaurant on the harbor. The food was so good ! I got the seafood pasta which was fully loaded with huge lobster, shrimp and scallops. My mom got the lobster roll (warmed with butter) and it was soo good as well. It's expensive but you're getting your moneys worth. The staff were all super friendly and we were in and out pretty quickly ! They are known for their chowder but sadly it was a little warm outside so we didn't try it- but highly recommend a visit if you're in the area ! read more
Honestly a great lobster roll for the price especially in the area. Great location and of course, phenomenal chowda! Long wait but on a nice day you can just walk around the parks. I would skip the non seafood items tbh as the potato skins were just overly cheesy and mediocre. Great spot overall and a Boston classic read more
Really great restaurant by the harbor! The restaurant was bustling when I went in for dinner, but luckily they were able to seat me right away. My server was extremely friendly and took my order fast. I got the warm lobster roll and it was delicious! The lobster was really generous and the fries were also really good. I would love to come by again to try some of the other options here! read more

Delicious clam chowder. Cup over the bowl. It's cold out in October and I feel like the chowder cooled down too fast from the cold weather but the cup keeps it warmer. Unless I was severed a warm chowder which I dont remember. Overall, must come for a flavorful chowder with lots of clam bits. read more

First time visiting Boston and I had to try Boston Sail Loft. Went around noon and the line was long however went by super fast. The server was amazing and attentive to the table. The calm chowder was one of the best I have ever had. The New England lobster roll was good however the bun was a little burnt. I also order the lobster Mac and cheese which had big chunks of lobster which I personally liked, however needed more salt and flavoring, wasn't the best Mac and cheese. read more

We stopped by here specifically for the clam chowder. When we arrived we were told it would be about 45 minutes wait, however, it didn't take that long. We went to the bar, ordered some sangrias and by the time we got them our table was ready. The sangria was very refreshing. Not too sweet at all and perfect for the warm day. We all ordered cups of clam chowder and wow! Now I know why this place has so much hype. It was perfect. From the bits of clam in every bite to the potatoes to the actual flavor. It was 10/10. It was so good I wished I had ordered the bowl. It was absolutely worth the stop and I can't recommend it enough. read more
Spectacular lobster roll - packed with fresh, sweet lobster meat and served in a perfectly toasted bun. The lobster bisque was also excellent, rich and flavorful. They even have a great deal on two whole boiled lobsters for $70, and they were absolutely delicious and fresh. I come here regularly whenever I'm in Boston because the atmosphere is always pleasant, the service is friendly, and the portions on the lobster roll are generous. Boston is one of my favorite cities for food so I was very excited to try Boston Sail Loft after hearing many great things about it. With that knowledge in mind, I started things off with Boston Sail Loft's famous clam chowder. Now, I've had hundreds of clam chowders in my life, but this was definitely the best I've ever had. To explain, the chowder was dementedly thick, smooth, rich and creamy. Furthermore, the chowder was loaded with ridiculously fresh clams and potatoes. The chowder was so good that I think I had an outer body experience. After that, I ordered a hot lobster roll with fries and the results were similar. To expand, the lobster was incredibly fresh, tender, and had a delicate sweetness to it. Moreover, the roll was fresh and nicely toasted. It was simply a great lobster roll. In similar fashion, the fries were delicious. To make clear, the fries were crispy, seasoned, and hot. The fries were great and went perfectly with the lobster roll. By all accounts, Boston Sail Loft is one of the best seafood restaurants I've been to and the clam chowder is unbeatable. read more
Yum Yum Yum - all I thought when looking at my food. The New England Clam Chowder is immaculate - perfectly seasoned and filled to the top. No wonder why they have a long wait time (30-60 minutes). I'm originally from Maine and grew up eating clam chowder. I live in Texas now so it's very hard to get a good chowder. While in Boston last week we decided to try Boston Sail Loft because of all the reviews on Yelp! First to know, they do not take reservations, it's a walk up first come first serve. We were a party of two and it was still a 45 minute wait at 2:30 in the afternoon! Luckily for us, 2 people got up from the bar and we got to sit right away. The place is very quaint New England. It sits right over the water and is so picturesque. The servers were very nice, came up to give us menus and offer drinks right away! The place was completely full, but they still greeted us almost immediately. We ordered a basket of onion rings, a cup of clam chowder and a cup of lobster bisque. This chowder was the freaking bomb! I've never had it with dill but wowza!! Highly recommend it! My husband said his bisque was incredible. The size of the lobster meat was unreal! It was the biggest chunk I've seen in a cup of soup/bisque. The onion rings were delicious, they had the perfect amount of breading on them. read more

Best clam chowder ever!! It was so good we went back for more the next day! There was an hour wait and we were hangry so we just got take out the first time. Cold Lobster Roll was yummy had soo much lobster meat! The clam chowder was the best I've ever had. I was surprised how well the dill complimented the clam chowder!! It was perfect! Usually dill is not my thing. The broth was creamy but not overly heavy loaded with chunks of clams and potatoes. read more

Whenever my wife and I visit downtown Boston, this place is a must for lunch. Don't get me wrong, entrees like their fish & chips and lobster mac are great, but the real reason you want to try this place is because of their famous New England clam chowder and lobster bisque. If you want the lobster bisque, though, make sure to go on the weekend, as that's the only time they offer it! Great atmosphere and service too. Professional athletes apparently love this place as well, as we ate lunch with some Chicago Blackhawks NHL players at lunch today. Definitely recommend giving this place a try! I don't think you'll be disappointed. read more

My mother LOVES seafood. Clams, shrimps, scallops, all the above. So when she said she was craving a fisherman's platter I was on the hunt. Boston Sail Loft was the first result of my google search. I read the reviews and I was sold. We went on a Saturday around noon and though they were busy, they were quick and efficient. They took my name and number and said they will text us when our table is ready. Shortly after we were notified the table was ready. My mom chose to sit outside which was nice and tucked away. Our waiter Brian was great! I ordered the lobster roll (hot) which came with fries and coleslaw and my mother ordered the fried fisherman's platter. The Fried Fisherman's Platter came with Clams, scallops, shrimp, calamari and cod with fries. The amount of food we got was impressive!! My mother and I so much to take back home. This place is great from the food to the staff. We will be back for sure! read more
The fries were delicious dipped in the clam chowder and the clam chowder is delicious on its own. Fish & chips were multiple pieces of fish over crispy fries. Fish tasted fresh fried. The Reuben was surprisingly good for a seafood restaurant. It was pretty good quality meat. Service fast and efficient. Beautiful view of water. Got here for an early dinner bc my friends and I saw it gets really busy during dinner rush. It's right on the water and in a good area full of businesses. They offer outdoor seating and the weather, though warm was fine with the covered patio. Inside in my opinion was crowded, loud, and dark. We waited about 20 min for a table to be available but they ended up cleaning the outdoor tables and asked if we wanted inside still or outside (after peeking inside and seeing the chaos) we chose outside. I got the fish plate and clam chowder. Out of all the clam chowders I've had in my two visits to Boston, Boston Sail Loft had the best one (also one of my fave meals of my trip). It was thick, creamy, full of clams, and so comforting to eat. The fish was nothing to write home about, tasted fine but wasn't amazing. read more

It was an ok experience. Saturday night was so busy they got our orders mixed up and took awhile to have our orders taken. The food was overall good but nothing extraordinary. The clam chowder kept us warm on a chilly evening. read more
If you're in the mood for lobster I highly recommend this spot. It's right on the water century located in the financial district. It was three of us. We ended up ordering eight whole lobsters a lobster roll two fried clams and 2 cups of clam chowder. List off with the ambience cool little spot great Boston vibe. The managers on duty were fabulous. The weight staff was on point. The lobsters were fresh and piping hot. We may have overdone it because we ordered eight lobsters. But they were delicious. I would go again only for the lobster clam chowder and the fried clams not so much on the Boston cream pie. That was a little disappointing but super cool spot while you're in Boston and if you love lobster highly recommend. read more

First time to try Boston Sail Loft and it did not disappoint. This place was hopping but an easy check-in and wait, actually got seated before the stated wait time. The service was great with some great recommendations. You have to try the New England Clam Chowder as it was one of the best I've ever had. The taste was creamy delight with a great mix of clams and potatoes. For the main course I had the blackened pan seared halibut with grilled vegetables and mashed potatoes. The halibut was so fresh and the blackened seasoning was so tasty with every bite. Didn't get to try dessert was saving myself for Mike's Pastries but I'm sure it would have been delicious. If you are in the area and want some great food, with a view of the water and great service then this is a must try. read more
Heard this was the best clam chowder spot in town so had to stop by on the first night of my trip. Clam Chowder (10/10) - It definitely delivered. Very creamy and packed with flavor. Lobster Roll (9/10) - I think this was the first lobster roll I've eaten in my life and it was pretty solid. Definitely messy with the butter but very filling. Ambiance was kind of dark at night, but service was very friendly. Worth a visit if in town. read more
Perhaps it was because we just finished a two hour Segway tour in 22 degree weather and we were frozen, or that we were starving because we didn't really eat lunch, but the late lunch we had here was absolutely fantastic! (I actually think the food is just really great despite our circumstances). We had three bowls of clam chowder on our trip and this one was, hands down, the best! The amount of clams and dill...oh my! I will try to recreate this at home. The fish and chips were also excellent. The lightly battered fresh fish and excellently cooked fries are nothing like we get in Cincinnati. The service was prompt and very friendly. Had a great time catching up with a coworker here. I had only heard good things about Boston Sail Loft so I knew this would be a good spot to meet at. We both ordered the clam chowder (a must try if you come here). Absolutely fantastic. No wonder it's the talk of the town. I got a buffalo chicken sandwich and that thing was no joke. I literally had two meals in one. I took half the sandwich home it was so big! A little messy to eat but not horrible. My coworker got a lobster roll and and that was also LOADED with lobster. I hadn't seen anything like it before. One thing for sure is they're not skimping out on portions here! read more

Restaurant is not fancy but the food are the stars. Their clam chowder is creamy. If sharing, just get the bowl. Their lobster sandwich is comparable to others in Boston. A good amount of lobster. Their fried shrimps are nice and crunchy. I got the whole lobster with mussels. Round up dipping it in the clam chowder instead of the butter as that provided more taste. Only part we did not like was the raisins in the coleslaw. Must be a New England thing. Good food, good service, and reasonably priced. read more
I can see why Boston Sail Loft is landing on so many top Boston restaurant lists! I met a colleague here for dinner on my first night in Boston, and I was able to check off so many of my Boston must-eats while taking in this small, dockside eatery. To start, the hosts were on top of managing their waitlist. I put my name in around 5:30 p.m. on a Sunday night, and they ended up calling me about 10 minutes later to tell me my table was ready. And I started with the clam chowder. I think this is a requirement if you visit Boston. Even though the fall day that I visited was unseasonably warm, this overflowing cup of soup still soothed the soul. I also ordered the lobster roll -- I mean, obviously. I opted to get this cold, and it was overflowing -- much like the soup; is this a theme? -- with large pieces of fresh lobster. The fries that came on the side were also perfect. Our server was quick and on top of our needs. Plus when you're done you can then walk along the water. This is a small but mighty eatery packed with Boston favorites! read more

Seating is tight. I would recommend getting two separate tables instead of asking to seat 9.
There are not allowed to share a red lobster with friends?Why?
I couldn't tell you. We both ate all of our lobster. Maybe one of you order a lobster and the other order something else and share. No one can really stop you from doing that.
