Cucumber salad, there was a lot!
    Julia Z.

We came by this spot after stopping by Salish (the pottery place a couple blocks away). The ramen noodles were quite tasty! and I enjoyed the cucumber salad flavor/taste. The other sides for their house ramen were nice too, and quite a number of them. The egg was also very nice and jammy. The downside was that the chashu was... maybe kind of bad? The meat was tough and maybe shouldn't have been seared as long (or maybe at all?). There was certainly a LOT of it, but they were all kind of hard to chew, which is not what you'd expect from chashu.

    So yummy for my tummy

This has to be me favorite place to have Ramen! Very interesting decor, good music and lots to choose from the menu. Ordered the traditional ramen with gyoza, cucumber salad and a Sapporo beer. Prices are pretty reasonable. Street parking is hit and miss. We had to park two blocks away Sunday afternoon. Service is good but not great. Kinda slow taking your order but your food arrives pretty fast

    TRADITIONAL TONKOTSU!

The tremendous number of positive reviews are accurate, this place is really good. I got the Traditional Tonkotsu, mind-blowingly good. I don't normally have the same love for ramen that my fellow western Washingtonians do. Normally too watery. But the bone broth in this dish will change your life. Great service & ambience. Back soon!

My husband and I are visiting Everett for a business conference and initially drove to this little strip mall lined with a handful of cozy little cafes. We planned on going to Umami for something healthy, but were hoping to find a hot meal instead of poke. Luckily, Botan is just right next door offering the exact cozy hot meal we were looking for in this chilly and rainy evening. I ordered the chef's special that had traditional Tonkotsu ramen and gyoza. My husband ordered the spicy chicken teriyaki with rice and salad. The portions were hearty. My husband's salad was drenched in dressing but the lady at the counter was more than happy to remake it when we asked her. Flavor wise, it's good but nothing too special. The place is cute and cozy.

I had been wanting to visit this ramen place for a long time! Unfortunately, they close fairly early in the evening, so I hadn't been able to make it in before. This time, we came around 3 PM on a Wednesday. The interior was beautifully decorated, and the staff was very friendly and helpful. We really enjoyed our ramen and also got a drink at Happy Hour pricing. Parking was easy since we parked across the street.

This place used to be great :( I ordered my lunch for the first time in a while and the cucumber salad is... well it's just cucumber. Usually it has sesame seeds / seasonings/ flavor, it's just cucumber in water and I spent $6 on it... the chashu done is also lacking in flavor.

Ramen was good and flavorful. I added fried onion, the egg, fried garlic, bean sprouts, and sweet corn, and without these, the ramen probably would've been missing something because I really enjoyed the egg and fried onions and garlic. The broth however was very delicious. The potato croquettes were great and reminded me of hashbrowns, if hashbrowns had a softer more mushy consistency inside

Staff is super great! Really enjoyed their low key and efficient energy. The food however... yeesh. Lacks depth and seasonings. The pork belly was terrifying to eat, it tasted like it was frost bitten, expired and microwaved. Again, staff 10/10 - Food... zero stars

Decided to dine-in after seeing holiday lights in Everett. When they sat us, our table was pretty dirty still with sauce or sticky residue on it. I had to rewipe it for my toddler. They had nice servers but it took a bit of time to order or flag someone down. Our ramen was yummy and good portion. We shared it as a family along with a generous portion of chicken kaarage. Overall it was a so-so experience.

Been wanting to try this place for quite some time now! I went with my parents and we loved how it was in the heart of downtown Everett/Colby where there are a few restaurants to choose from! It wasn't busy at all but the space I'd say, is small/medium. You're greeted by a cherry blossom tree inside the entrance (which I feel is the signature piece of the restaurant when you first walk in!) it is beautiful! I like their style of how the booths are arranged. They also have seat cushions when you sit down. Our server was very nice! Their green tea was very good. We got 2 appetizers, and 3 ramens. - Ocean Balls -- 6 fried fish balls with spicy mayo and another sweet sauce. These were very tasty and delicious! - Potato Croquettes-- 4 of these. Loved the filling but felt they were not warm enough. I got the traditional Tonkotsu and asked our server for the spice level (originally was going for the spicy miso). But he said if it was the spicy miso, it would be a 7/10 on the spice so settled for Tonkotsu with spice on the side. The spicy sauce was very good! I only put a little bit and it gave it a nice kick! My mom also got the traditional one and then my dad got the seafood one (looked pretty good!) I like that their menu has lunch combos, and a specific combo that has 3 options based on your hunger level lol. One is called "I'm starving!" Combo. They also had this house made special ramen which has 2 additional sides for $20.95. I wanted to get this one but wasn't sure if the price matched the food... The ramen I thought could've been a little warmer. After walking out of there, felt hungry still so prob would go for a bigger meal next time. Overall, it wasn't what I had expected but also wasn't bad.

Seafood Lover with tonkotsu broth, $15.95 – 3.5 Stars

Located in downtown Everett on Colby Ave, Botan Ramen n' Bar is one of two Botan restaurants in the immediate area. The menus are different (the other has teriyaki), so review the menus before deciding which to go. Being on Colby Ave, it is street parking only but plentiful. Entering Botan, a giant faux cherry blossom tree decorates the left front of the restaurant, blending into an area with trellis style coverings. I must say it's kind of cool. We knew what we wanted, so we placed our order soon after seating. It is 45 minutes before closing, so we want to make sure we finish in a timely manner. They mentioned to us that it is last call for kitchen orders, which is perfectly fair. Our service was mostly reasonable, except they made a grave omission - that they are running out of broth! Our two ramens arrived, and the broth is just covering the noodles. I thought that is how they serve them, but I asked later. The server told me they were very busy earlier and they are low on broth. I wish they told us. I would have ordered differently. I like my ramen very well covered in broth. The Food: Pork Belly Bun (2pcs), $8.95 - 3 Stars The meat is too thinly cut and small, and the buns are served unnecessarily covered in sauce sloppily. It does not look like the menu photo or the business photo that they posted on Yelp. The business photo looks way better. Haru Maki (4pcs), $6.95 - 3.5 Stars The vegetable spring rolls are well fried and crispy outside. The inside is very mushy. The ingredients need a change to give it some texture. Chicken Wings (6pcs), $9.95 - 3 Stars Glazed in an abundance of "traditional Japanese sauce", the no-longer-crunchy chicken wings are swimming in a sticky sauce. They could use a lesson in less-is-more. I honestly don't know what the traditional sauce is. It's too thin to be katsu sauce, too sweet for many of the typical entrée sauce. They tasted pretty good but too sweet for a genuine Japanese palette. Traditional Tonkotsu Ramen, $13.95 - 3.5 Stars The char siu is thinly cut with the typical fattiness. There are plenty of bamboo shoots. As previously mentioned, there is not quite enough broth. Very unfortunate as the broth is tasty. Seafood Lover with tonkotsu broth, $15.95 - 3.5 Stars The Seafood Lover normally comes with miso broth (he said). I asked if he can change it to tonkotsu broth. He said yes, no problem. Sigh. It's better to mention the lack of broth issue. This could have easily been a 4+ stars dish. I will say they serve their noodles softer than the average ramen place. If true ramen al dente is important to you, you may want to skip the ramens.

Ramen was hot and tasty - love that they have a nice spicy vegetarian option! Potato croquettes were crispy and delicious. The restaurant itself was a little dark and service was ok - price was great for the quantity and quality of food, but feels like more of a takeout spot.

So glad this place survived after Covid. The seafood shaved noodle was solid. You get shrimp, squid and scallops. $13.95. Really? We are floored! Husband said it was exactly the same and he enjoyed it! He finished his whole plate. Impressed with the large portion!! Shrimp was huge! Instead of seafood, I asked to sub with chicken. Server said no problem! The chicken slices were super tender and juicy and the shaved noodle texture was perfection. It was a bit bland but nothing a lil' table soy can't fix. Only $11.95 for a huge platter. I was super hungry and cleaned my plate but for most, there'd be leftovers. Mapo tofu with white rice. The sauce had too much corn starch and the meat texture was not my favorite. I've had better but when you have spicy sauce over fluffy rice, it can be mediocre and still be satisfying..Would rather have this for my work lunch than Marie Callendar's any day. Pan fried pot stickers 8 pieces $7.95. Delicious. It's the thin skin kind. Classic, you can't go wrong! I can't eat fried stuff nowadays but their fried chicken wings were the best. Plump, juicy and piping hot! I am sure it's still amazing! They have lots of other menu items. On a colder day, I would go for the custom noodle soup bowls for $12.95. (Choose noodle, broth, 2 veg and 2 proteins). Duck noodle soup sounds amazing. For more topping, I think it's $2.25 per extra topping. One of the few places where most everything is below $15 per entree item and nothing above $20. I would like to try their oxtail noodle soup, sizzling beef or chicken platter, teriyaki short ribs, beef chow fun, and black bean noodle dish next time. Interior is clean with pleasant Cantonese Chinese music, free waters, and guava candy when you pay. The evergreen Asian supermarket next door has a lot of Asian grocery goodies with a Vietnamese deli inside. Durian is on sale for $4.29 a pound. Yes, you can get durian in Everett! Impressive! Worth the drive to get good Chinese then shop next door.

However, we arrived just before 10p on a Monday night and the line was down the street. We waited an hour and ended up not getting in due to seating ending at 10:45p. The hostess would check in periodically, and up to the last 15 mins said we had a 50/50 shot of getting seated. The alternative was to get take-out. There were a couple other groups also in the same boat. Overall, the wait time after submitting our take-out order was around 15 mins for 2 ramen. We ordered the classic ramen, extra spicy, and I added an egg to mine. On the card you use to select your order, you can choose the type of noodle, richness of broth, spice level, add-ins, and beverages. There is a separate vegan menu with lots of options to choose from. The ramen was delicious. The broth was rich and full of flavor and the noodles were cooked just right. We walked into a casual, compact space with a mix of counter and table seating that fits the quick ramen shop style. The interior is efficient and well organized, though it can get extremely busy, and the wait times are often one of the biggest parts of the experience, especially during peak hours. Once seated, the space feels functional and comfortable, designed around getting a bowl of ramen in front of you without unnecessary distractions. The ramen is built around rich tonkotsu broth with a lot of customization options. We appreciated the ability to adjust things like noodle firmness, richness, and spice level, which made each bowl feel more personalized. The regular tonkotsu ramen stood out for its deep umami flavor without feeling overly heavy, and the noodles had a great texture that held up well against the broth. The vegan options also stand out, including miso-based bowls with flavorful broths that give non-pork options more depth than many ramen shops offer. The toppings are generous, and the soft-boiled egg was cooked to that perfect jammy consistency. Beyond ramen, the menu has a few sides that complement the meal well, including gyoza that came out crisp and well filled. We also grabbed mochi ice cream for something sweet afterward, a light finish after the rich broth. The seasonal ramen options are worth checking out since they add variety beyond the standard bowls, giving regular visitors a reason to come back and try something new. Service is generally quick and friendly, especially considering how busy the restaurant gets. The ordering system is straightforward, and the staff handles the constant flow of customers efficiently. The team kept the pace moving without making the experience feel rushed, and they were attentive to refilling water and checking in on the table. The biggest downside is the popularity, since the lines can sometimes feel long for a relatively quick meal, but the wait tends to move faster than expected given the efficient turnover. Ramen Danbo is a reliable spot for a satisfying bowl of ramen in Seattle. The customizable bowls, strong broth, and consistent noodle quality make it a place worth visiting, although planning around busy hours can make the experience much better. The balance of customization and quality means you can dial in your bowl exactly how you like it, and the focused approach to the menu keeps the attention where it belongs.

Yet, it's disappointing to say that we've been sourly disappointed the last 2-3 times we came here. Not sure if it's management change or something happened, but Nakagawa lost its magic with us. 1. The service has been terribly slow and just not inviting anymore. After ordering, we waited easily 35-40 min for the food. I know it takes time to meticulously prep rolls, but after 30 min of just sitting and waiting, you can't help but start feeling hangry. And this isn't just a one-time occurrence - this happened multiple times for us. 2. The bento box quality. I LOVE bento boxes - it was such a treat to dine on so many different Japanese options, like a sampler box of goodness. Ranging from nigiri to sushi, from tempura to the soup, bento boxes have a special place in my heart. Yet, I feel like Nakagawa's bento boxes have sadly missed that mark. The protein (chicken teriyaki/katsu) tastes old and oddly mushy, and the portions are quite small, just leaving me wanting more. Don't get me wrong - the fish is still good. Solid place for seafood, paired with a lengthy wait. But Nakagawa just lost its touch with us, and driving that 30-35 min trek is not worth it for us anymore.
