Roasted Sweet Potato Bowl and Crunchy Cauliflower Bowl

I loved this spot! If I was closer, I'd end up going here about once a week, it's so delicious. My soon-to-be mother-in-law and I ended up here after some wedding venue touring. We needed to eat after some fun wine tasting and ended up at this charming fast casual spot. You order your food at the front cashier. The menu is filled with incredible vegan goodies. After ordering, you get a number to sit wherever you like and they bring the food to you. There is plenty of seating here so you're bound to find a good spot to sit. Our food came out pretty fast and it was incredible. I ate every single last bite. I adored my roasted sweet potato bowl. The sauce really complimented the entire dish. My MIL loved her bowl too. I tried a bite of the cauliflower and it was divine. There were single stall restrooms at this spot with cute wall art. It's a huge space and a great spot for lunch. I highly recommend coming here for a healthy and delicious meal.

We had a wonderful time eating out at Botanical Fare. The staff was very welcoming as soon as we walked in and they had an extensive 100% vegan menu, which is always a dream come true!! We ordered 3 items off their fall seasonal menu - the sweet potato sammie, fall pasta, and the potstickers - and then went outside to their outdoor seating. We loved people-watching in the shade and really enjoyed the street ambience. Food came out and was delicious! We LOVED the sourdough bread of the sandwich, wow! Def get a sandwich with that sourdough, omg. The potstickers were our 2nd favorite, it was very well-made and crispy. We didn't love the fall pasta, maybe because the "goat" cheese and crumbles tasted a bit funky to us - but we never eat those types of things at home, so we probably just don't like those things anyway. Overall, a great experience! They also sell coffee, Rebel cheese, and other take-out options. Highly recommend!

Phenomenal service and food! It's hard to find a place that has gluten free and vegan options and Botanical Fare checked all our boxes. My 2 year old loved that they had a potty just her size during our bathroom break as well. We'll definitely be back the next time we're in Charlottesville!

I was surprised to find a vegan restaurant as part of Charlottesville's downtown walking mall. It has outdoor seating on the mall, although the placement is confusing as it is not the seating that's directly outside the restaurant itself (the different seating areas are labeled). I went for a sort of breakfast bowl that was redolent of the way that Australian cafes work: a bunch of healthy ingredients which have no recognizable connection to any traditional cuisine, but which offer contrast in flavors and textures to excite the palate. This bowl was particularly aromatic, which I attribute to the barbecue lentils. A matcha lemonade was a good choice to wash things down. The bowl was not hugely filling for the money, but a light healthy meal is a worthy find in this town. There were also a few interesting grocery items for sale.

Great, vegetable-forward vegan restaurant with fresh, creative dishes. We loved everything we tried: the shroom BLT and the rainbow terra salad from the classic menu and the cold sesame bowl and the yellow tomato gazpacho from the summer menu. They also have local products available in their fridge which we appreciated, like Blue Ridge Bucha and some local sauerkraut and vegan cheeses.

I loved the mood of the place, and the food was delicious as well. I had the lunch combo of Mac N Cheez and a half mushroom sammy, and brought much of the Mac home for later. I'd like to suggest some downtime flavors with impossible meat, like chili or lasagna. That would be amazing and take the meals we loved as kids and allow us the pleasure of those memories.

My girls were impressed w the presentation of their meals, as am I. Service was friendly, but unobtrusive. The dining area was once again filled with happy herbivores enjoying cruelty-free foods. Since our first time here, we've come back so many times. Pretty much every weekend for brunch. The breakfast burrito, avocado toast, and Rainbow Terra salad are all great. Trust me on the salad. I'm not a salad girl. Service is the most consistent and wonderful in the whole town. And being right on the downtown mall in a cute building with character adds to the charm. The decor is so cute. For all reasons, I want to move in.

I wish I lived nearby so I could try more of their food! I'm always excited when I find a good vegan restaurant. I ordered the fried oyster mushroom sandwich and loved it. My husband order the BLT with mushroom bacon and my son ordered the mac'n'cheese. I tried both and thought they were great. I loved that their bathrooms were unisex single bathrooms and had cloths to dry your hands after washing rather than using paper or electricity to run a dryer. We sat outside and our order was brought to us. I loved being able to sit on Main Street and enjoy the ambiance. It was a hot day, but we sat in the shade and it wasn't bad. Main Street is well worth the visit, and as long as you're there, I suggest stopping in here for a bite to eat. read more

I tried to stop in this weekend for lunch and it was a madhouse, which is great for them i guess. Getting service was terrible, and they seemed uninterested in figuring out how to serve people. But, it was busy. I tried two cookies, photo attached with a half lemon for reference. They were tiny and almost 2 dollars, I wouldn't get them. Delicious vegan food! Besides serving vegan food, the restaurant additionally emphasizes sustainability by serving drinks with reusable metal straws. The walls are decorated with bright paintings made by local artists and there is outdoor seating available on the Mall too. I tried the Okana cakes and they were heavenly. Every bite was as good as the previous bite and the portion size was just right. Overall, I had a lovely experience at Botanical Fare and will definitely be back. read more

Today I was a lady who lunched. It was great to meet up with two friends for a casual vegetarian lunch on the downtown mall. I enjoyed everything I tried. I took a cash-tuna(?) sandwich for later and loved that and the salad it came with. I feel virtuous, not overly stuffed after the meal here. It's a lovely addition to the mall. This is the BEST restaurant. It's always such a great time to come here and it's the place my boyfriend and I go for special occasions. The menu is always adjusted for seasons and the servers have the best energy. It feels like such a homey, happy place. The food is amazing and is so nutritious. Regular here and this is hands down the best restaurant in town for plant based folks. Even if you're not, you'll enjoy this place. Their seasonal menu is always awesome and their breakfast burritos with the cashew crema is fire. The staff is always really nice and welcoming. The food here is incredible! The wait staff is kind and friendly and very helpful. I am sometimes worried about vegan cafes using synthetic products- but this was ALL NATURAL! I don't want summer to end...because I want to eat the Ahi Tuna Watermelon all the time. The Ahi Tuna Watermelon is one of the best dishes I have eaten in Charlottesville. Absolutely delicious. Charlottesville has a lot of very good restaurants, but lacked a dedicated vegan option...no more. Even if you don't care about vegan, this is just really good good. The corn soup is great, the sweet potato bowl is phenomenal, sticky rice and cashews with just enough spice and bursting with flavor. Service is quick and frenziedly. Highly recommended. read more

So although she was nice the service was not good as there were times we wanted to order something else and one of the entrees didn't arrive as it was ordered but our server never checked in. All things considered I think I would only come here to grab a salad or appetizer.

We had 5:30pm reservations and were seated immediately. The host was warm, acknowledged the occasion, and honored my request for a quieter table by placing us in a bay-window nook. Unfortunately, that's where the positives ended. The space echoed so badly we could barely hear each other, and the setting sun combined with the AC being accidentally turned off made the area feel like a sauna. Our water glasses were filled within minutes, so we thought service would be smooth. Instead, we sat for another 15 minutes before anyone greeted us--while a table seated after us was helped promptly and served at a noticeably faster pace. I understand large parties require attention (there was a group of 10-12 nearby), but as a former server myself, I've never allowed smaller tables to feel forgotten. When our server, Lucian (sp?), finally arrived, we immediately placed drink and appetizer orders because we were already starving. The appetizers came out about 20 minutes later--still before our drinks. The brussels sprouts were excellent and worth the wait. The biscuit basket was good, though the butter-to-biscuit ratio felt off, and the apple butter was surprisingly delicious. Our entrées didn't arrive until at least 45 minutes after that. The pacing was simply poor, and we consistently felt like an afterthought. While our server was polite, he didn't initiate conversation, offer suggestions, mention happy hour, or acknowledge our daughter's birthday. He didn't even suggest dessert. Meanwhile, the six-top behind us--seated well after we were--was wrapping up their meal as ours was just being served. The food presentation was beautiful. The pot roast, however, was underwhelming. It lacked seasoning and sauce, and the vegetables were forgettable--very few potatoes, no carrots. "Not your normal pot roast" was accurate, but not in a good way. The shrimp and grits were excellent, with great seasoning and a flavorful sauce. The salmon was moist and well-prepared, though it still had a few scales on the end of the filet. Once we finished eating, we again waited for our server to return. We eventually had to wave him down for boxes and again to request the check. Parking in the back was convenient early in the evening, though I imagine it becomes difficult later. Would we return? Unfortunately, probably not. We've been treated better, served more efficiently, and appreciated more fully at other restaurants--including one almost directly across the street. What we hoped would be a memorable celebration ended up feeling ho-hum at a high price--too high for the experience we received.

As is often the case on this arcade, the restaurant also has a dedicated set of outdoor seats at the middle of the brick walkway. You'd think all of this would be an upgrade, but no. First, I ordered in advance online to spare myself a wait, not knowing that it was an actual sit-down restaurant. However, upon arriving at the space, there was no one to take an order if I'd wanted to place one, and only rarely did anyone emerge from the back with food. I just took a seat and waited. By the time someone acknowledges my presence after some fifteen or twenty minutes, my food was apparently already ready and just sitting there. I didn't leave a tip as my impression of this place was that they weren't really providing any service. There's nothing wrong with a counter service model rather than full table service, but one way or another they seem not to have figured out what they were doing. Other potential diners also seemed confused. Don't get me wrong, the good was great. My ginger lemongrass noodle soup delivered an explosion of flavors. Would order again. I just hope they improve the customer service experience, because this is a great opportunity for the average local to try some vegetarian Vietnamese food.

My girlfriend jokes that it's magical because eating it when she's sick always seems to make her feel instantly better.
