My boyfriend and I ordered linguini scallops clam shrimp , pesto Rossi fusilli with sausage & Cesar salad. I would say this isn't the WORST pasta I've tried but this isn't the BEST. The flavors are super light, so I suggest that if you don't like flavorful foods and you like your food more bland then you should come here. You can order to-go at the counter or find a seat for table service. There was ample seating as they had just opened, although the place is small (6-7 tables + a counter facing the window). Presumably the owner brought us water and a basket of bread (there were two men running the whole place!). I've lived in the area for years, stumbled across this place tonight in a desperate Yelp search on a Friday night with a car full of hungry kids. 6:15 PM. Called them, owner told us she could seat us immediately. The place is absolutely charming, moderately noisy, tightly packed and fairly brightly lit. No liquor license and not BYOB! If that's a deal breaker for you, bad luck. This is not a dark, romantic hole in the wall. More a buzzing neighborhood bistro. We were seated immediately, while the kids were still settling in and fighting over bread, I asked for a Caprese appetizer and calamari. The Caprese arrived in about 90 seconds, delicious, fresh tomatoes and fresh mozzarella and basil. The calamari followed close behind. Pastas were fresh and delicious. The lobster scampi was lobster ravioli in a tomato cream sauce with perfectly cooked shrimp. Delicious, filling, I think $17. The other plates of pasta were equally tasty and even more reasonably priced! Service is quick, efficient, friendly. Food is popping with fresh, homemade ingredients. We didn't stick around for dessert. To sum up: absolute gem, wonderful neighborhood feel, super reasonable prices, no alcohol. Great fresh and authentic Italian food. They have an amazing 1/2 pound lasagna on Thursdays. The service is amazing and the restaurant makes it feel like you're in southern Italy. I was looking for a good gnocchi and I find it on the menu. At first I thought they don't have sauces, but then I look down to see a list with at least 15 different sauces that you could eat. Maybe the best dining experiences I've had in the greater Boston area. This is an unassuming low bro Italian joint in heart of Brookline Village. AMAZING food, efficient service, and ridculously reasonable prices/portions. We enjoyed the Bresaola to start. Juicy tomatoes, mixed with briny capers and sharp lemon and balsamic flavors. Yes please! Also had the Camila's pasta (light and creamy, with lots of shrimp, sundried tomato, and arugula) and the eggplant special- Timballo. Many sandwich and pasta options. Love that you can choose any pasta to go with any sauce- sure to please any diner in your group. This is an in and out kind of place, takeout seemed popular, but we were lucky to snag a table immediately on a Thursday evening. Small and no reservations and SO WORTH IT! The server that we had was an older man who really loved the place and knew the menu back to front and, when they were out of the vegetable lasagna that I wanted, he made a recommendation that was basically a deconstructed lasagna as it was spinach ravioli with tomato sauce and was delicious. We split the bruchetta to start and the bread was lacking but everything on top of it was not. The mozzarella was great quality and the tomatoes were fresh. There was balsamic on top as well. They do have counter service if you want something to go but if you're sitting they'll bring it to you. They do have a bathroom, it is just a bit hidden, so if you need to use it just ask! read more

One of my favorite Italian places in boston (including the north end!). This hidden Brookline gem is small but cozy and adorable. The pasta dishes are delicious and yet pretty cheap especially for Boston. For example, you can get a really large, excellent pasta dish with protein for around $10. It's a small business and it feels very authentically Italian. The servers are kind and attentive. Highly recommend this restaurant to anyone looking for a hearty, Italian meal near Brookline. Maybe it was an off day? It sucks because everyone that works here is incredibly nice, but the food itself was just not good. My girlfriend and I walked in on a Thursday afternoon after looking for a cheap, quick lunch around us. The place is small, cute, and very hot. The only ventilation was the front door that was kept open, no AC or fan. Oh well. My girlfriend ordered the penne in a pesto alfredo sauce and I got the chicken piccata special. The food came out for very quickly and very hot, solid start. Right away, I could tell that the chicken in my dish was... odd. It was a pale white, not seared at all, and came in large chunks rather than an actual chicken breast. Canned?? The taste wasn't any better, chewy, dry, tough with a sauce that tasted just of bitter lemons. My girlfriend, for the most part, enjoyed her dish but thought she could get the same thing at a different Bottega closer to us. $25 for two large portions and great service is what might bring us back to try them again, but the first impression was a letdown. read more

Confused as to why this place has such high reviews? Have any of you people had real Italian food in your lives? Service was okay and staff was polite, but the food- not so much. Where to start- the tortellini soup tasted like frozen tortellini with salt water. The calamari tasted like frozen rubber buttholes. The waiter actually called it "fresh calamari". Ouch. The salmon dish wasn't horrible- the vegetables were tasteless, the mashed potatoes as well. The chicken parm was not as good. The chicken was not tenderized AND UNDERCOOKED. The middle was rubbery and barely done. The sauce was okay- but the chicken inexcusable. Do not recommend; won't be coming back again. After doing some research online about Bottega di Capri, I was excited to order something that's a bit off the menu -- pumpkin tortellini with sage butter sauce. My waiter also told me it's a very popular dish, so I was definitely sold! I ended up getting served pumpkin ravioli, however, and the portion size seemed small to me, 8 pieces of ravioli (when I got home I was actually still hungry). The quality of the food was very good though, with the sage butter sauce making the sweetness of the pumpkin ravioli more savory (and very aromatic!). Service was good overall, albeit a bit slow (there was only two chefs on staff at the time and one waiter), but what surprised me was the final price: 13.91 (that's without the tip), despite the menu indicating that pumpkin tortellini is 7.95 and the most expensive ravioli is lobster ravioli at about $10...so just a heads-up on the price for those who decide to order this. I think there's a good chance I'll come back since the menu is definitely full of plenty of much cheaper (and I'm sure still delicious) options, but my first experience could've been better. Other downsides -- when I sat down, my table was not clean, and the person who was directed to sit at my table once I was ready to leave also had to awkwardly wait for my table to be cleared and my tip to be picked up. The place is certainly on the small & cozy side, which adds a bit of charm to it, but when it gets busy, it's hard to actually physically leave the place without bumping into someone since the seating area is packed in pretty tight. Other upsides -- no more than a 5 minute walk from the Brookline Village T stop and plenty of sauces to choose from if you're in the mood for pasta! This is a small but efficient operation that sells tasty, generously-sized Italian dishes at more than reasonable prices for the area. When I went for lunch over the weekend, it seemed the place was only staffed by two employees, but I never once felt like service was lacking. I ordered the farfalle da vinci, and the white cream sauce the pasta came in was flavorful and in just the right amount.
