I absolutely love this little restaurant! It is so cozy and the food is always delicious. My family is Italian and I always feel so comfortable here. The assorted meats plate and fried calamari are so tasty for appetizers and the pasta is always cooked to perfection. It comes out of the kitchen nice and hot! Had the spaghetti and meatballs and my boyfriend had a pasta, spinach, chicken dish in a cream sauce. The meatballs are huge and so delicious as well as the pasta sauce, which is light and fresh with a hint of spice. Also had a fantastic antipasto plate and a homemade mousse with dark chocolate ganache. All for 45 bucks It's an intimate, small setting with hanging plants and bench seating. This small restaurant/Italian deli is easy to miss but is a true neighborhood gem. I came in to carbo load before a race with some friends and indeed left loaded and satisfied. I was instantly attracted to huge homemade meatballs and then had my choice of which type of pasta I wanted to complete the dish. They have a number of different options and combinations of sauce, pasta, and other additions or if you're feeling creative you can make your own combination by picking your sauce and type of pasta from a long list of options. I was also lucky enough to be able to have my friend's leftovers the next day and can be a testament for how creamy and savory the farfalle davinci is. The garlic cream sauce with peas and chicken was simply outstanding (even the day after). They also have a number daily specials you can choose from each day that look amazing. Okay, so I usually don't like giving such a low star rating (after reading this you'll note I didn't give them one star) so I'll start with the positive- they let us borrow a chair from inside to add to one of the picnic tables outside. The negatives were pretty much everything that came after that, including the fact that the picnic tables they have for outdoor seating do not fit properly between the curb and the barrier so the seats have a dramatic slope to them that was uncomfortable for my parents and sister. Admittedly, my parents said they liked what they got but frankly I think they were trying to be nice to not make my partner and I feel bad for suggesting the place after we saw the reviews (which I'm 100% sure were bought rather than being legit reviews). Overall the food was edible, though not what I would choose to eat as it had the vibe of being made from mostly canned ingredients and leaving me with the distinct impression I could have cooked something better. Even the bread we got tasted less like Italian-made-from-scratch and more like store brand Italian bread. To make matters worse they forgot to put my sister's order in and then, after asking "what did you order again" and bringing her food out after the rest of us had finished eating (my sister insisted we eat) someone came around to say that it took so long because they cook everything fresh. We ordered shrimp special with artichoke, asparagus and capers in a tomato sauce. I asked for a cream sauce in the order instructions because I can't eat tomato sauce. It came with regular sauce and no capers. The dish was so bland that all I ate was the shrimp. I also ordered fresh mozzarella basil and sliced tomato in balsamic dressing and I added prosciutto and it was very good. My daughter had Ceasar salad and penne ala vodka sauce, again the dish had no flavor. So she didn't eat. Bill was over 70$ and didn't eat 40$. It was a waste of money and food. read more

Affordable, generously portioned, fresh Italian food. Takeout is fast (less than 5 minutes when I called on a weekend afternoon!). The outside is very unassuming, and the inside is reminiscent of a small, Italian deli, very low-brow. The inside is small though, so I recommend takeout if you're wanting food in a group. Something that really impressed me-- the Pasta del Pesce had 5 or 6 huge shrimps, so many scallops that I had at least one with every bite. I mean, I've paid closer to $30 for seafood pasta that had 2 pieces of shrimp I had to dig to find. And this place is half that price! Need I say more? The food is fantastic (not life changing), but for the price? Highly recommend. read more

I can't speak highly enough of Bottega di Capri. The food shows how great something can be when using fresh, simple, authentic ingredients. The bread is delicious, as are the pastas. Right up until I tasted the first bite of my entree, I would have left a one-star review. I was baffled by the buzz and confounded by the reviews. In retrospect I will write off the first part of our experience to a language barrier and the absolute worst calamari I ever had. It all started when I asked for a glass of chianti. The man who was serving us, perhaps the owner, looked me square in the eyes for a full three seconds and then changed the subject to appetizers. That is when he suggested we try their fried calamari. "Okay, we'll take an order of your fried calamari and a glass of (maybe he didn't have chianti I thought) ... red wine." A pause. He fumbles with his pen and a menu. A few seconds later, "No chianti." "Okay, do you have a house red?" Nothing. "May I have a wine list?" Nothing for a few beats. Then, with a wonderfully heavy southern Italian accent, "No. We have none." I gave up. Then we ordered ... or tried to. On the menu is listed "Tortellini with cheese, porcini and pumpkin" and then the price. Then "veal" and a price a couple dollars more. My wife ordered the meal without veal and with a vodka sauce. The man wrote down the order and smiled congenially. Then he looked to me. "I'll have the same with the veal and the pesto cream sauce." He said "Which two?" "What?" I asked, perplexed. Then he said something about its slow in the kitchen so he can do three. Then it dawned on me that maybe the menu said "and" where it should have said "or" and that maybe the "cheese, porcini and pumpkin" was not an option, but only one or two. Mind you, it says this nowhere. "I'll have the cheese and porcini then." He smiled and said, "But it's not busy today so I make three for you." Okay, I'll have the pumpkin too." I hope I'm doing this conversation justice because it was reminiscent of scenes from The Princess Bride blended with keystone cops in Italian. My wife and I looked at each other but I only smiled since she picked the restaurant this time. Anon, the calamari came. I could tell by looking at it that this was no good. There were only rings, no tentacles, and the batter looked like McDonald's onion ring batter. It was thick and dusty, crisped dark brown and all of the pieces were uniform in size. It looked like frozen, fried calamari from the freezer section. It tasted like thrice-fried leftovers. It was burnt and had the texture very crunchy cardboard but not as tasty. I had to check to see whether there was a remnant of squid inside. It was horrible. I set the plate aside after eating one piece. When the man came back to refill our waters, he saw the still-full plate and just moved it out of the way to make room, never asking how it was or why none was eaten. I suspected he knew. No restauranteur worth his bow tie would serve calamari that looked like that but he did. This was my chance to complain but I opted not to. Even though I am so rarely this unhappy with food, I figured this was intentional or reckless and was worried they would mess with my main dish. I figured that a man that was capable of serving calamari like that would be capable of just about anything! Then the evening turned on a dime. As soon as we saw our dishes, we knew we had misjudged. The tortellinis were all different, varied in size and shape. In fact, I could swear there were some tortellini that had transitioned to raviolis. The sauces looked and smelled like the best of italian saucery. It was like smelling a cork and knowing that the wine is going to be incredible. This was a sure thing and our first bites confirmed this. There was sausage added to mine. The tortellinis and raviolis were soft and thin folds of very fresh pasta. The sauce clung to the pasta and each bite was heavenly. I loved mine. My wife loved hers. The menu offers many different types of pastas which you can then build to your liking from a list of sauce preparations, seafood, meats and poultry choices. There are also fixed daily specials and then everyday house specialities. The menu offers salads, panini, sandwiches and then a modest list of appetizers. Interestingly, there is no mention of calamari on the menu. We were never provided a dessert menu though he did ask if we wanted something sweet, coffee or tea. If it were not for the absolutely incredible entree, I would have given a horrible review of the service, atmosphere (it basically looks like a well-worn Italian deli with a half dozen tables) and food. The entree deserves at least six stars, not only for the sheer deliciousness but for the value. This was a fraction of the cost of other restaurants of similar quality. The man and the service seem somehow charming due to the exquisite pasta but the odd experience does call for a downgrade; hence the four stars. I say go and try it. Just don't order the calamari and if you want wine or other alcohol, hide it. read more

We were easily able to find a table at 6pm and the staff came right over with water and to share the specials. The food was affordable and some of the best Italian I've had in Boston! Oh my gosh, talk about the homiest, little Italian restaurant right in the Brookline area. From where I live, getting to this place was a breezy 15-20 minute walk. My roommate and I decided to go out for dinner one night and settled on Bottega di Capri. I had bookmarked it for many months but only now was able to make it there. The moment I entered the restaurant, I was warmly greeted by a gentleman who I presume was the owner. He had a very lively, delightful Italian accent and allowed us to choose our own seats. Granted that the location itself is small, it is comfortable and cozy. It acts as both a local restaurant and Italian deli store. Starving, I chose the Shrimp Scampi dish with spaghetti for myself and my roommate chose the Farfalle Davinci. Even though we already knew what we wanted, we were tempted by the specials that the owner mentioned because they all sounded that good. We had delicious bread while we waited for our food, which came out piping hot within 10 minutes. The sauce in my dish was so flavorful and creamy which complemented the seasoned shrimp and spaghetti well. I left very happy and full! Needless to say, I will definitely be coming back whenever I want a fancy Italian meal at an affordable price with great service. read more

Unfortunately we didn't have a great experience. We got the Chicken Al Dente (both me and my husband) and it just was not tasty. We're both Italian and just wanted comfort food but perhaps we ordered the wrong dish because it was really just americanized Italian and the cream was way too heavy. Not to be mean, just honest, neither of us could finish the food. It just really didn't taste good. I made some pancakes for dinner. If I ever return or reorder via delivery I will try another dish, in good faith that this dish just isn't for us. However, the main reason I'm reviewing is that the bread given for the order was put loose into the bag, with no sort of seal whatsoever. During normal times (even tho it makes the bread go stale quickly) that wouldn't be a huge deal, but during Covid, I think sealing food that goes out for delivery is really important even if it is just the bread. For this reason we won't try this business again until after the pandemic. Please consider sealing all food items for the duration of the pandemic. Wishing you all the best! read more

Was craving some classic, affordable, comfort Italian food and this place fit the bill. Ordered delivery from here through door dash and enjoyed it. We ordered three make your own pasta dishes: puttanesca (spicy!), di capri and pesto rossa. They were all good but the Di Capri was definitely our favorite sauce. It was creamy with a lot of flavor and there was no need to get extra meat because it was full of sausage. Would definitely order from here again and try some of their other dishes. read more

We weren't sure if we ordered at the counter or not, but the guy (owner?) came to us. He brought bread while we waited on food. Olive oil and parmesan were available and we made a dipping oil from that. We ordered a caprese salad, panini (don't remember the kind), chicken parmesan, fettucini alfredo, and spaghetti bolognese. Honestly, everything was delicious. The bread for the panini was really good, the tomatoes for caprese were perfectly sliced (thin), good bolognese...we all loved each dish and ate all. This is strictly for a take out order of Lasagna, so you may have a very different view eating (something else) there. I've been searching for a good local lasagna, and after doing a search for the best in Allston, called Carlo's who was rated at #1, but they no longer made it, and ditto for Alfredo's. I know it's a lot of work and I guess some places are deciding that it's just not worth it. Someone recommended T Anthony's. I got some, but none of the sauce was inside it but only dumped over the top, so it was generally dry. I then expanded my search to Brookline. Bottega di Capri was the most convenient and I had high hopes - only to see them dashed again. They did have meat sauce between the lasagna noodles, but that is the only thing and there are something like seven layers of noodles which gives you some idea of how thin each layer is. I may be tasting some béchamel sauce, but there is zero sign of ricotta and only a few dabs of mozzarella on the top surface. I may have false expectations as I developed my own recipe starting with the one on the Prince box. A little sauce on the bottom so the bottom layer of pasta doesn't stick, then ricotta with egg and finely chopped scallions, the meat sauce with onion, pepper and mushroom, a layer of mozzarella, then repeat the same, ending with another pasta layer with meat sauce and more mozzarella on top. It was a major effort when I was 30-40 and I'd have all four burners going at once, which was kind of exciting, but now even two burners at once seems like a challenge. However, one more grossly unsatisfactory version and I might well be tempted to try it again. If anyone knows of a lasagna similar to this in the Boston area, please let me know. I don't need the veggies as I realize that was my own mod and they're not traditional. Someone once told me that I don't make lasagna - I construct it. However, I very much want four layers (repeated) similar to what I described. read more
