Boudin has amazing bread. I like coming here and purchasing freshly baked bread. Also, if you sign up for their app, you can get a discount or free loaf every month. It is best to buy the bread earlier in the day because sometimes they run out after lunchtime.

    Very small $15 sandwich...
    Chris T.

The story of a (very small) $15 sandwhich... ****Update**** Ok, so I realize that this is the lunch rush, and I understand the staff is working hard to get throught a difficult shift. In hind sight, I am grateful to the kitchen staff for taking the extra effort to make sure I was taken care of by coming out personally and delivering my sandwich... So, thank you! -------Original review------- I've been coming here for a while now (it's in my monthly lunch rotation). Service is usually slow, but today, I ordered one (very small) sandwich for $15. Then, I waited over 25 minutes... When I asked about my order, they kept saying, "It's coming right up," but they had no idea what was going on. The staff seemed confused and totally lacking in empathy. Other patrons ordered their meals and picked up their food while I continued to wait. It was very frustrating. Especially since (today of all days), I needed to get back to work quickly. I saw another man (who came in 10 minutes after me) pick up the exact same sandwich I ordered. When I said, "I think that might be my sandwich?" the lady said, "No, that's his." I finally lost it and said I had been here longer than him; and to which I was rewarded with a blank stare. Finally, someone came out of the back kitchen with what seemed to be a hastily assembled (very small) $15 sandwich.

    2 ounces of beef

Order a $15.95 classic french dip sandwich and the entire sandwich literally contained 2 ounces of meat. I actually removed ALL the meat off the bread and weighed it on a food weight scale, and Boudin literally charges you 15.95 for sandwich bread with 2 ounces of meat. RIDICULOUS! Will not be ordering this again.

Toasted Chicken Club and side salad
    Chris N.

I've been coming to Boudin for lunch for the past 3 years. My favorite here is the Toasted Chicken Club which comes on a fresh Boudin baked Schiacciata bread. I've been to many sandwiches places in my life but this one has got to be near the top of the list for me. The crunchy outside of the bread with a spongy soft inside to pair with crispy bacon surrounded by chicken and avocado makes this a perfect combo. You can get chips, salad and now fries to pair with this fulfilling treat. Staff here are friendly and working hard all the time, even as they are working under hot temperatures with those ovens on all day long, which is why I take my orders to go. But don't let it stop you from getting your hands on these sandwiches. Soups and salads are also great here too and would highly recommend the Chicken Avocado Caesar as well.

I ordered clam chowder at this location and found what appeared to be a ladybug/insect in my food. This was extremely upsetting and completely ruined my appetite. I also waited a long time for my order. When I brought the issue to staff, there was difficulty processing a refund back to my card, though I was eventually given cash. Staff offered a replacement item, but after finding an insect in my food I was too disgusted to eat anything else. This was a very disappointing experience, especially at a well-known establishment.

I love Boudin. And the girl that always takes my order is super fry and accommodates my special requests very well. The bread is absolutely delicious. Pastrami is amazing. They have great sandwich, sandwiches, soup, and pastries.

Receipt from order placed at midnight more than 24 hrs before order due
    Micki F.

Placed an order at midnight on Sunday for two 1-1/2lbs sliced rounds to be picked up after 10 on Monday morning. Get a call at 930a they sold out my rounds because "the cashier didn't look at the orders printed from the weekend" WHAT??! You're a bakery, it's only 930, & you're sold out?! Make more? Nope. Unfortunately this was a gift to my mom; she has weirdly specific tastes - it can only be this round. Which was precisely why I ordered it more than 24 hours before pick up. Terribly disappointed

    Clam Chowder Sourdough Bread Bowl
    Adam B.

The shop in Embarcadero 4 has finally reopened, but for take-out only. It was a cold rainy day, so figured I'd get the classic clam chowder in a bread bowl. Sometimes you want to play tourist in your own city. Clam Chowder Sourdough Bread Bowl: When you get it to go, they keep the bread and soup separate, so you can assemble it just-in-time at a home. The bread itself had the signature crusty exterior. The inner bread was a bit too thick/doughy though. The sourdough from Acme Bakery just seems lighter. And the clam chowder was like the kind from a can, very thick almost like paste. It was filling for sure, but felt kinda mediocre overall. Italian Classic Sandwich: Apparently a sandwich and side soup to go will cost you $16.53 out the door. And the sandwich is pretty skimpy on the meat. Plus the meat was folded and clumped together on one side. I had to manually unfold the meat & cheese and spread it out, else half my sandwich would just be romaine lettuce. Rustic Tomato Soup: This was the surprise highlight. Lots of umami from the tomato. And richness from the cream. Actually seemed a lot fresher than the clam chowder. This might actually be a better fit for the bread bowl next time (...if there ever is a next time).

This review is for their take-out bread. I got a teddy bear shaped sourdough bread as a souvenir. When I came back home a day later the bread went completely stale and was non-edible. Don't know if I want to buy bread from here again. Your best bet is probably eating in.

This location isn't my Boudin's location, but since I was in the area, I decided to stop by. It's located at Four Embarcadero Center facing the Justin Hermann Plaza fountain. I was here during the lunch hour and FiDi workers were dining here. Menu was more extensive than my go-to location because in addition to the sandwiches and pizzas, they had salads and soups. They had a large inside dining area and you can eat outside in the Plaza. Today I was here to get a loaf of sweet French bread. Ordered and had it sliced and I was on my way. Good FiDi location to grab something for lunch and dine there are bring back to the office or grab some bread like me.

Today me and my wife stopped in for lunch as we have a few times before. It was a warm day in the Bay Area today and we were out walking so I wore a nice sleeveless shirt. It was nice, new and clean. The hostess asked me to cover my shoulders but I said I didn't have anything with me. She sent the manager over. The manager told me no sleeveless shirts for men are allowed in her restaurant. Mind you this is lunch. Not dinner. This is not a super fancy place. Me and my wife were both properly and nicely dressed. I politely told her that I identify as a woman. She said it didn't matter. I said so you misspoke a moment ago and male or female cannot wear sleeveless shirts? She said correct. I looked around and there was a woman behind us wearing a sleeveless shirt. Not nearly as nice as mine or dressed as nice as me. I said ok I will wait here while you turn her away too. The manager then became very rude and said she isn't going to serve me no matter what. I told her are you sure about this and she said yes and asked me to leave. How embarrassing. I have never been turned away from any establishment in my life. Is this not discremenation due to my gender? Businesses have the right to refuse service to anyone unless it is for race, gender or age. I will be contacting an attorney this week. This is not ok. If you haven't tried their gluten-free pizza, I recommend giving it a shot. It is a "Detroit-style" crust and it is amazing (if you like that sort of thing). It's a mix of crunch and airiness. It's the closest thing to Portland's Boxcar Pizza, and IMHO is the best pizza in the Bay Area. Service is always good, and tonight Jordan took care of us and he did a fine job. It's a great place for a casual date or to bring the family. The place is clean, there's a chatty energy, and it seems a place where everyone is welcome.

CORN RIBLETS! 4.3…read more North Beach, a happy, vibrant neighborhood, sits in a hilly pocket of sunshine in San Francisco. During our weekend stay, we ventured out in search of pizza. In North Beach, aka "Little Italy," pizza spots abound. We decided to give Flour + Water a try and made reservations ahead of our visit. The restaurant was bustling, lively, and packed with patrons. We ordered: Corn Riblets ~ crema, ricotta salata, cilantro, Calabrian chili. This is corn-kernel crack! Hawaiian Pizza ~ capicola, pineapple, fresh mozzarella, pickled Fresno, chili crisp. A playful twist on the traditional pineapple pizza, with the addition of Fresno chiles, which bring a fruity, smoky flavor. I especially loved the texture of the mildly spicy chili crisp. A few things that make their pizzas special: * The dough: They use naturally leavened dough made from locally sourced organic wheat. The wild yeast and beneficial bacteria ferment for at least three days, creating a crust that is light, airy, and easier to digest. * The layering process: First, a little aged Parmesan is sprinkled over the flattened dough, followed by a layer of sauce, then the toppings and cheese. The dough was good. I could taste a little more salt in their crust compared with some other pizzerias, which isn't necessarily a bad thing. It definitely enhances a pizza with lighter toppings. Service was good and efficient. As busy as they were, there wasn't much opportunity for chitchat, but everything moved along smoothly. We scored a good pizza, but even better was the discovery of the corn riblets. Those alone are worth a return visit! We'll definitely be back!

It's clean, spacious, and service is fast. For me, it's a perfect stop for lunch while walking down the wharf area. Of course with how big they've gotten, there's plenty of branded merch if you're looking for some souvenirs. The cons, no on-site restrooms available if you're doing café or casual dining. They direct you outside to the not so clean public restrooms. If you park behind the building, they'll validate parking for 1 hour. For food/drinks, they have a café, fast casual open-seating, and also an upstairs restaurant dining area. We opted for the fast casual for multiple visits here. Ordering is easy in person. Staff is helpful if you're not sure what to get. Other than that, they're fine, don't expect exceptional service. We tried their clam chowder, crab chowder, beef dip and also their pizza over the course of the weekend. Price is what you'd pretty much expect around the area For two of us, I think the perfect items are to share a clam chowder and a beef dip. The chowder is creamy and has a unique flavor that we enjoy. The beef dip while simple, is delicious. The bread really absorbs the au jus so it's not dry at all. You have to get the chowder in a bread bowl. While at some point, there's only so much sourdough you can eat, it's really how you should eat chowder isn't it? We'll pass on the crab chowder in the future. The flavors just didn't hit right with us. The spiciness was off and it just wasn't our favorite dish. The pizza is good, seeing more and more places do the hot honey on pizza thing nowadays. It's good and a big portion. If there were more of us, it's a nice pizza to share. Overall, this is our favorite Boudin location to visit.
