    2 ounces of beef
    Ken B.

Order a $15.95 classic french dip sandwich and the entire sandwich literally contained 2 ounces of meat. I actually removed ALL the meat off the bread and weighed it on a food weight scale, and Boudin literally charges you 15.95 for sandwich bread with 2 ounces of meat. RIDICULOUS! Will not be ordering this again.

Boudin has amazing bread. I like coming here and purchasing freshly baked bread. Also, if you sign up for their app, you can get a discount or free loaf every month. It is best to buy the bread earlier in the day because sometimes they run out after lunchtime.

Toasted Chicken Club and side salad

I've been coming to Boudin for lunch for the past 3 years. My favorite here is the Toasted Chicken Club which comes on a fresh Boudin baked Schiacciata bread. I've been to many sandwiches places in my life but this one has got to be near the top of the list for me. The crunchy outside of the bread with a spongy soft inside to pair with crispy bacon surrounded by chicken and avocado makes this a perfect combo. You can get chips, salad and now fries to pair with this fulfilling treat. Staff here are friendly and working hard all the time, even as they are working under hot temperatures with those ovens on all day long, which is why I take my orders to go. But don't let it stop you from getting your hands on these sandwiches. Soups and salads are also great here too and would highly recommend the Chicken Avocado Caesar as well.

I love Boudin. And the girl that always takes my order is super fry and accommodates my special requests very well. The bread is absolutely delicious. Pastrami is amazing. They have great sandwich, sandwiches, soup, and pastries.

Receipt from order placed at midnight more than 24 hrs before order due

Placed an order at midnight on Sunday for two 1-1/2lbs sliced rounds to be picked up after 10 on Monday morning. Get a call at 930a they sold out my rounds because "the cashier didn't look at the orders printed from the weekend" WHAT??! You're a bakery, it's only 930, & you're sold out?! Make more? Nope. Unfortunately this was a gift to my mom; she has weirdly specific tastes - it can only be this round. Which was precisely why I ordered it more than 24 hours before pick up. Terribly disappointed

This review is for their take-out bread. I got a teddy bear shaped sourdough bread as a souvenir. When I came back home a day later the bread went completely stale and was non-edible. Don't know if I want to buy bread from here again. Your best bet is probably eating in.

    Clam Chowder Sourdough Bread Bowl
    Adam B.

The shop in Embarcadero 4 has finally reopened, but for take-out only. It was a cold rainy day, so figured I'd get the classic clam chowder in a bread bowl. Sometimes you want to play tourist in your own city. Clam Chowder Sourdough Bread Bowl: When you get it to go, they keep the bread and soup separate, so you can assemble it just-in-time at a home. The bread itself had the signature crusty exterior. The inner bread was a bit too thick/doughy though. The sourdough from Acme Bakery just seems lighter. And the clam chowder was like the kind from a can, very thick almost like paste. It was filling for sure, but felt kinda mediocre overall. Italian Classic Sandwich: Apparently a sandwich and side soup to go will cost you $16.53 out the door. And the sandwich is pretty skimpy on the meat. Plus the meat was folded and clumped together on one side. I had to manually unfold the meat & cheese and spread it out, else half my sandwich would just be romaine lettuce. Rustic Tomato Soup: This was the surprise highlight. Lots of umami from the tomato. And richness from the cream. Actually seemed a lot fresher than the clam chowder. This might actually be a better fit for the bread bowl next time (...if there ever is a next time).

This location isn't my Boudin's location, but since I was in the area, I decided to stop by. It's located at Four Embarcadero Center facing the Justin Hermann Plaza fountain. I was here during the lunch hour and FiDi workers were dining here. Menu was more extensive than my go-to location because in addition to the sandwiches and pizzas, they had salads and soups. They had a large inside dining area and you can eat outside in the Plaza. Today I was here to get a loaf of sweet French bread. Ordered and had it sliced and I was on my way. Good FiDi location to grab something for lunch and dine there are bring back to the office or grab some bread like me.

A SF institution that I just can't get enough of. Did you know that they sell Boudin sourdough bread at Safeway? Thank goodness because that saves me time when I want to get their bread and don't want to travel to far off tourist spots. I'm a fan of their sandwiches, especially their vegetarian sandwich which has roasted red peppers and avocado. Of course everyone, including me loves their clam chowder. Their pizzas are good too if you like sourdough pizza. But, my go to is their half and half soup and sandwich special. I can mix and match different sandwiches and their famous clay chowder or a heathier salad option. They also have a rewards program where you can earn points towards a discounted meal once you reach a certain point count and when you sign up you get a free cookie.

Clam chowder in a sourdough bread bowl is a classic, but I can't say I was blown away. The grilled cheese is a much better option.

I walked past it and got like a block away and was like maaaaaan shiiiiiittt Im turning around lol. I went back and came to get a sanny and Im happy I did, I was planning on eating it on the walk. The place has a lot of choices like a regular deli youd find in the northeast. San Francisco has definitely the best Little Italy as far as choices to pick from and its really big and spread out. I had the Goodfella. Roast beef, prosciutto, salami, provolone and basil. I added the pesto and olive oil and replaced the provolone with fresh mozzarella. Best part was there was an old ass lady who made the sanny and she loaded it lol. The bread makes the sandwich and it was really soft and crunchy. Soo good. I 1000% recommend this place and I am sure she makes all the sandwiches the same!

Wowowow …read more... Visited Alimento twice, my most recent being today -- 6/27. It's a small deli shop that offers gelato, sandwiches, and pastries. They also have quite a large selection of alcohol and cigarettes-- which could make for a good quick pick-me-up. I visited on a Wednesday night and got myself a cone with two scoops of Hazelnut Brownie + Stracciatella -- which were honestly so yummy. It was stretchy and soft and made for a perfect dessert after dinner. You are allowed only two samples though so be wary of your choices. Today, when I went -- I was excited to try their sandwiches, I was looking at the menu and the Alpino caught my eye. Normally, not a fan of bacon but this sandwich was fresh- the mix they offer in sauces and veggies were so good. The sandwich was refreshing to eat with a decent amount of turkey slices they packed in. The bread was also toasted and gave a nice crunch with a soft interior to every bite. The sandwich is admittedly a little pricey, but I would purchase again. Now the customer service, like other reviews may have mentioned was a little off at times? It didn't feel friendly or welcoming at times and when I was ordering I felt rushed or ignored-- I was trying to order two sandwiches to which, she immediately began to make the first one without a single word. I chose to wait until she was done because I wasn't sure when I could let her know about the other order as she was moving back and forth between stations, but she finished and I let her know about the other order to which she said, "How many more sandwiches?" Honestly, that comment did throw me off a little, but I told her this was the last one and she did make it quite quickly. Now, I'll give her the benefit of the doubt as she could be tired or not feeling the best-- but I would say I just wished she was a bit more acknowledgeable toward the customers behind the counter as it did make me discomforted by her lack of response and also the reaction she had when I let her know about the other sandwich. She did at least tell me to have a good day afterwards, so I do hope this isn't going to be a reoccurring incident as I really do love coming to Alimento for the gelatos and sandwiches. (~_~;) I would recommend coming here if you're visiting around North Beach! Alimento makes for a great lunch spot with their sandwiches or a nice sweet treat with their gelato. ^o^

Good wine and cocktail selection from the bar. I would pass on their burgers though which are mediocre. What makes this place 5-stars is the service and ambiance. Some of their staff have been there for several years, which is a testament to how well the restaurant is run. Since it's along the Embarcadero and close to Fisherman's Wharf, a lot of tourists tend to wander in. And this is probably why their website says there's a strict dress code. But I feel comfortable coming here in shorts and a t-shirt. The staff is always welcoming. I also go to the Los Altos Grill which is the same restaurant as Hillstone. Then they said "please don't move around so we can get the right food to you" which, like fine but that's not the reason they didn't want us to move. You're aiming for a hoity toity atmosphere, we can move plates around. There's an obnoxious but unenforced dress code (no jerseys then someone came in with a jersey and was as seated, no baseball hats...), but the straw that broke the camels back was when the hostess asked me to stay seated while I was seated. My 4 year old needed entertainment as we were paying the bill, we were in our last few minutes there and she told me that I had to stay in my seat. Which I was. They didn't get the order right for said 4 year old: hamburger, no cheese. Showed up with cheese. If you don't want kids in your restaurant, just turn people away. But also you're on the Embarcadero, not in a fancy neighborhood. Overpriced by 20%.

My husband, being the seafood fiend that he is, also ordered the crab chowder in a sourdough bowl.
