We stopped in here on a Sunday evening after attending the matinee at the Sunset Playhouse in Elm Grove. We had driven by many times and thought we wold give them a try. The server was fun. She had a great attitude. I had the Perch fried fish. With coleslaw and fries. The coleslaw was about 2oz. The steak fries I liked because they were not greasy. The Perch was cooked and breaded nicely. I hate when their is too much breading and grease. My partner ordered a hamburger with mushrooms. It was huge , halo pound and she like it medium well. Ordered lunch to go here for everyone at work. Takeout menu was fantastic because it basically has something for everyone and the items are all the same price so it was really easy to split the bill. We basically all got burgers and fries, I was impressed they asked us how we'd like them cooked and then followed through on our requests perfectly. These days you could spend 10.95 on a meal at McDonald's, this was the same price and a much better value AND you're supporting a family owned business as a bonus! Was there while visiting relatives. It was adequate but nothing special. The food is fine, and the housemate chip are good. I had a burger and it was very good. Cooked right. My aunt told me they used to have better buns. I never saw the old style ones, but this was fine. Our server was very nice and helpful. Full marks for service. The interior was clean, but seemed odd. They have this stoney wsll. It looks like it should have things on it in these alcoves, but didn't. Just sort of empty. They do have plexi shields between all the tables (obviously covid measure). Honestly I can say anything was bad, but nothing really stood out and the food is good but nothing special. Now I did hear that this place was just bought and has new management, so next time I'm in the area I'd try it again. SERVICE-Let's start with service- it was incredible. We were greeted at the door and seated right away. Our server brought water immediately and then took our drink order right away. During the whole meal She was attentive but not overbearing. FOOD- I ordered a taco salad my husband had mushroom Swiss burger. His burger was done Medium rare just as he ordered. It was juicy and had a nice char flavor. Mushrooms were sautéed and had a beefy taste and the Swiss cheese was meaty and stretchy. Fries were crispy on the outside and soft on the inside. His meal Was very good. Mine was not good at all. It was a simple taco salad. There was not enough lettuce and the ground beef was horrible. It was mushy and tasteless- almost like it was boiled in water. I tasted no taco flavoring at all. I ate maybe 1/4 of this meal. It's pretty hard to screw up a salad in my opinion. I'm just stymied as to how my husbands burger could Be so good and my salad so disappointing. Food was great and service was friendly -server Lori was very nice and answered all questions! Over all was pretty quiet on a Wednesday night - so nice atmosphere - not to noisy or crazy. Calamari appetizer was excellent! French onion soup was 7 out of 10 - little bland but little salt and pepper did the trick. Ribeye was well seasoned but slightly under cooked at medium rare - which was ok for me, but little longer on the grill and would have been perfect. My husband and I went there to celebrate our 19th wedding anniversary, Knowing that the owners of Vino cappuccino now own Boulder Junction. What a delightful surprise. The food was outstanding, my husband had a ribeye, and I had the ribs. Absolutely delicious food , excellent service and no dead animals all over the wall! Their menu is enticing, and if you like fried eggplant definitely give those a try. No longer are there shower curtains hanging from the ceiling, or an owner who doesn't give a damn. The owners and servers here were beyond gracious , making sure every aspect of our dinner was delightful. So if you have been boycotting the old Boulder Junction like we had, please go back and try the new version. I really cannot say enough good things about the place. Had craving for a good rib sandwich so thought I would try this joint Portion huge and tender no knife needed and that's how I like it Steak fries nothing special Mozzarella sticks for an appetizer but similar to those at a local Tosa eatery. Tasty marinara came with it Also had the boneless chicken wings, these I liked. Good flavor, coating thick and crispy Had Pepsi products but w a bar in house they should house Coke products. It's a long time since I was in Boulder Junction. The last time was before the pandemic. New owners now. My first impression is that they don' t know what they want it to be. It had a Rocky Mountain theme, some of which has been removed, some of which is still there, like the boulders on the wall and the glass between the bar and the main seating area. Mixed in with white table cloths and Frank Sinatra/Dean Martin style of music, and it's still called "Boulder Junction Charcoal Grill". It's just odd. I was with work colleagues for lunch. Service was good, except I ordered chipc and the burger came out with fries. Not a big deal but notable, and I didn't feel that was the waitstaff's fault. Everyone but me ordered soup, Chicken Enchilada and said it was excellent. I ordered a Cajun Burger, medium. The burger was good, cooked as expected, but I thought there would more on it than just the swiss the cheese. The description said hot sauce. Well, it's cooked into the burger. Tasted good, but for the money I guess I just expected something more. Overall not a bad experience, but not as good as the old Boulder Junction, and nothing memorable. read more

Salads no longer on menu. Chick Fil A puts this place to shame. Wasn't like this with previous owner. I used to go here all the time-I will NEVER go back. Been coming here for the food for 20 years and the food is good but just in the last year my wife and I tried to make it a place for drinks. The bar staff is terrible except for Jeff (I think is his name). Two women who bartend there are really inattentive and we have not just caught them at their worst or when it was super busy. No excuse for their lack of understanding of why people go to a bar to have some drinks. Today, and not for the first time, I waited way too long. My wife and I left after one drink. Third time here but first Yelp review. This review will be my 100th Yelp review so I decided to splurge on the Friday's prime rib special for lunch. This place get busy during the lunch rush and the wait staff was hustling for the hour and so that we were there, but by 1:15 the restaurant was relatively calm. Due to the lunch rush our orders took a little longer than usual and so on, but it is understandable. Our food was really good and came out hot, worth the wait. Today my lunch crew ordered two prime rib specials and one ordered the Mediterranean chicken wrap with roasted red pepper clam chowder as his side. Roasted red pepper calm chowder may seem odd, but I am surprised he didn't lick the rest out of the bowl, he loves BJs and goes here often during his lunch hour. His wrap was also really well received, nothing left to take with him. My other compadre also splurged and ordered the prime rib special with steak fries and a side salad as a side. He loves fries, but he was laser focused on his medium rare prim rib. All I can say is that he demolished his prime rib and left most of his fries, that says a lot. I also ordered the prime rib, side salad but haystack onion rings as a side. The haystack onion rings were alright, but my friend's steak fries looked darn tasty. My prime rib was done to a perfect medium rare with plenty of au jus underneath it, also I had blue cheese crumbles placed on top, such a good combo. This was probably my personal top 15 prime rib places in the last 5 years. The prime rib could have been seasoned and crusted on the outside to add another level of flavor but it was delicious none the less. I will be back for a prime rib lunch within the next few months as it is hard to find a place around here that serves prime rib outside of Saturday nights. read more

We live very close and always drive by seeing their signage for specials and happy hour. Finally made it in and the food was so good! Large portions (I could only eat 1/2 of my 12 oz) and my NY strip was cooked to medium rare perfection. Our service was also phenomenal, and fast! This was always a favorite place, but it has gone downhill. From the start, our server was very inattentive. She took forever to take drink orders, and she hardly came to the table. We waited a long time for refills, and had to have the manager tell her to come refill our drinks. Also, the food was very subpar. My fries were cold and you could tell they were the end of the bag. The manager continued to make excuses for the service. The restaurant was not busy, so this was not an acceptable excuse for the poor customer service. We eat out quite a bit, and we spend a lot of money. We expect good service, and unfortunately, we did not get that here. Ex: the family that was seated waiting for others asked for bread. 2 were brought out for 7 people asked for another the waitress stated just so you know the bread is only free if your ordering entrees. She cut others off when questioned menu items, walked away while being spoken to and snatched glass out of someone's hand and walked away just all around rude. Tables were separated by transparent panels probably put in place for covid. They did not feel restrictive or imposing and would provide privacy for conversations. Our server, Lori, was friendly and helpful with the menu. She was attentive but not intrusive. Our 3 meals were two nightly specials, 1/2 rotisserie chicken and shrimp served with baked potatoes, French onion soup and medley of vegetables, BBQ ribs and shrimp served with smashed red potatoes and chicken dumpling soup. First time back here since Covid. This place is now under new ownership and management. The style of the place, the menu, the quality of the food, and the service have all been upgraded. The menu selections have been trimmed back but there were plenty of good choices. Our server was polite and energetic. Our food was cooked exactly to order and the presentation was well devised. The flavors of our food spoke to the quality of our selected items. The steak fries were particularly good as they were crisp and tender without being oily. Covid partitioning is in place. Was there with my neighbor having a couple of beers after a couple of hours and the Bartender came over after we asked for another beer and she said that we couldn't have any more because a so called customer complained that we were too loud. Was talking to another couple the whole time and even they said that we were talking in a normal tone the whole time that we were there. Needless to say that we left cordially after that and we will not be returning to that place anymore in the future. t nobody else in the bar was upset or disturbed while we were there. Boulder Junction used to be good. Back in the day, we would go here quite a bit. Their lunch menu was great, and they had a great dinner menu. The service was very good. However, the past few times we have had really horrible experiences. I am not sure, but it seems the restaurant changed ownership, which is the only reason I can think of the poor service. 1. One Friday night, my fiance (now husband) and I went to dinner at BJ. We were seated at the bar - half an hour after we came in. There were plenty of tables available, which we would have preferred to sit at. The waitress took our order. An hour later, the BARTENDER delivered our food. It was cold and disgusting. Not sure what happened there. Oh, and our beer glasses were not filled up to the top - there was a 1/4 of foam on top. That's great bar tending! (/sarcasm) 2. We gave it a 2nd shot a few months later, which was a mistake. We went in and waited 45 minutes (!) to get seated at a table. We got our water from the waitress, and she never came back. We walked out. Nothing was said to us on the way out and we were visibly upset. The worst part of it was they didn't even attempt to keep us there and get our business. We actually went down the street (124th) to Arriba in Butler. We got a great meal and had our food in 10 minutes. Of course, I wrote a Google article about this at the time, which BJ had removed off the Google website. Hm. Guess they don't want people to figure out they have crappy service and serve cold food? If you love eating "ok I guess" food while being stared at by a stuffed bear, this place is for you! But seriously, what's with the decor here? So creepy/weird. Old folks seem to love this place though. You'll be in a shouting match with your table mates trying to converse over the drone of hundreds of white haired heads. It's pretty loud, and the architecture of the room doesn't help. The food is priced high for the quality, which is just OK. The menu is bizarrely expansive, which makes me worry about ingredient freshness. Taste confirms concerns. It's not terrible, I'd just rather spend that same amount somewhere else. read more
