I have visited Sluggo's frequently over multiple years. My latest experience has disturbed me. I have noticed that a "service charge" is included on their bills that they will remove for cash payment. But, it is illegal to add a service charge when using a debit (not credit) card . I never complained loudly or raised my voice so I was shocked by his angry attitude. I explained I had done some research and learned that a service charge is legal when using a CREDIT card, but is NOT when using a DEBIT card. I thought Sluggo's had been a friendly place, but I learned differently tonight. I'm confident I was right, but I realize customers are not always right. I'm a long-time Sluggo's fan, especially their nachos. Today, I ordered the Reuben off the new menu. The meat was inedible.(fatty and unable to chew through) When the waitress picked up my plate all the meat was on the plate. I told her it was not edible. She didn't apologize. It's everything you imagine a neighborhood sports/dive bar would be, and the food is definitely on the better end of basic. When you walk in it's one giant room with a ton of tables and it's a little hectic trying to figure out if you're supposed to seat yourself or wait for someone. Usually someone makes eye contact in a minute or two and seats you or tells you how long the wait is. There's free popcorn and a pull tab machine, Wisconsin staples. I needed a quick dinner before a baseball game on a Friday night and of course I preferred it be a fish fry. I was looking on my map app for a different restaurant nearby, but decided to give Sluggo's a try instead after seeing that they were on the way. In addition to a three piece cod with potato pancakes, I ordered cheese curds. Before committing to the cheese curds I asked if they knew what kind of breading they had. All the person who took my order could say is they were lightly breaded and fried. Hoping they weren't the cornmeal breaded kind that I dislike, I took a chance. Unfortunately, that's the exact kind they were. The cheese curds lacked crispiness in the breading and were greasy due to the cornmeal like breading retaining too much oil. I ate as much as I could so I didn't waste my money, but couldn't finish them. $12 for these cheese curds is far more than I would ever pay again. The pieces of fish were very meaty. I was impressed with the beer batter as well and glad I decided to go with Sluggo's as far as the fish was concerned. The potato pancake was a pre-made hashbrown with decent onion flavor. read more

I've been to Sluggo's a couple of times, with MANY years between visits because I no longer work or live nearby. A friend suggested coming here to watch the Packers wild card game. I expected a full house and was surprised to see a few open parking spots and even a couple of newly available tables, as people were getting up to leave when I walked in. The place was definitely full and more cars were arriving, so I lucked out and grabbed a table for my friend and me. There were only two servers working, so it was a bit before we were greeted, but I expected that with a full house. Once we were greeted and placed my drink order, our server seemed to get into a rhythm and was on point the rest of the time we were there, despite the number of tables she was serving. She was a pro! In fact the bartenders and servers were all working hard and taking care of their customers efficiently. We ordered a bowl of chili, which came with two big pieces of cornbread to start. While the chili had a nice flavor, the base was thinner than I prefer for chili and my bowl was nearly all beans, with a few small pieces of ground beef, so not ideal. The cornbread was among the best I've had anywhere! It arrived wrapped in wax paper and was so incredibly moist and delicious! When another friend arrived, we ordered a large pizza with sausage, mushroom, and onion, and it was great! Definitely exceeded my expectations with thin cracker crust and fresh toppings. I would get pizza here again! The atmosphere for the game was great, too. Very fun and friendly crowd, and we all had a great time. Overall, I was happy with my visit and would return without hesitation. The food was good, and the service was great! I'll just skip the chili. read more

I had been going there for over 15 years and all of a sudden after asking a simple question: will my rewards certificate be mailed to me, he closed my account and told me to get lost! I had always heard he was a prick but never saw it until today! Save your hard-earned money for a place and an owner that respects you and deserves you!
