I was staying at the Crown Plaza, and because this restaurant is connected to it, I thought I'd have dinner here. The decor is deceiving. It looks absolutely gorgeous and high end, but don't be fooled. I made a reservation for 5:30PM, but the place was fairly empty, as it was a Monday night. I was seated at a nice booth. As I was sitting there, I noticed they have private tables upstairs in the balcony. No one was seated there, but I thought to myself, it looks really nice up there. I ordered the Alligator and Crawfish Rigatoni and a bottle of Chianti. The complimentary bread was delivered first. It was a long piece of freshly baked bread in a white paper bag. It was so hot and fresh. When I spread the whipped butter on it, it just melted in my mouth. My waitress, Melanie M. came back to the table with a sommelier and a bottle of Castello di Nieve Barbaresco which I assumed was the same price of the Chianti, $45. It was a fine wine. I really enjoyed my food as well. It was flavorful and delicious, slightly spicy, garnished with scallions and fresh Parmesan cheese on top. It wasn't until I received the bill that I noticed the bottle of wine cost $148. Too late by then. Melanie was gone for a while. Don't know what happened back there while she was gone except for the fact that she came back with an extremely expensive bottle of wine. I didn't say anything. I just paid the bill and tipped her as usual. Didn't know it then, but this was about to be a premonition of the rest of my week in New Orleans dining out. First of all, the moment you walk into this restaurant, you believe you are in a five-star establishment. This is a very well designed and very elegant restaurant. The interior is truly spectacular for a restaurant of this era. It really takes you back to the old-school. It makes you feel like you have stepped back in time. I know, because I've been around for a long time and I've dined in many restaurant just like this. But, that was a long-long time ago. The appeal of this restaurant immediately ends with its interior appearance, however. From the moment you are seated, the staff has no clue about what their job is and/or how to properly do it. To step back a bit deeper in this... I had made a reservation at this restaurant as I was staying in the hotel that is attached to this establishment. We walked in, and we are given a very nice booth. All good! They present us with our menus and a menu of their drink options. I noticed that there was no wine bottle menu included with this drink options menu. So, I ask the server about this. She told us that they did offer wine by the bottle and she would bring me back a menu depicting what they had to offer. She did. I looked through it and I specifically pointed out one bottle of wine I desired. About ten or fifteen minutes later. And yes, this is quite a long wait in a restaurant such as this, she brings us a bottle of wine, along with a supposed wine sommelier. It almost became a laughing matter when the man could barely even open the bottle of wine. He really struggled to do his job. Then, he poured a tasting glass for my wife. Anybody who knows anything about wine protocol completely understands that it is always the male at the table who is supposed to test the wine. Yes, I understand this is from a time gone past and this can be seen as a little sexist, but that's just common protocol. After he poured my wife a testing glass, I laughingly joked with him and ask him to pour me an additional sampling glass so I could test it. I tasted the wine, it appears to be good, so he pours us each a glass and that was that. A considerably long time later, the server returned to our table and asked us what we would like for our meals. All fine and good. It's always nice to enjoy the wine. However, at a real restaurant that depicts this caliber of service and elegance, the server or the sommelier always continues to come around and keep the glass of wine of the patron's full. This never happened. Not even once. We had to pour our wine ourselves. Upon her return, we order and what we were given was an interesting presentation and taste experience. We each ordered their alligator and crawfish rigatoni. It's good. Approximately half an hour later, the server finally returned to the table to see how things were going. I don't know what she was doing in the interim. But, from my experience, that is just not the way patrons of a restaurant of this caliber are supposedly treated. We said we were fine, and we had finished our meals. With this, she brings us the check. Now, I have no problem paying for a bottle of wine, or any anything else in a restaurant of my choice. What this server had done, however, is she had switched bottles of wine, or something? I know not what, with the actual bottle I ordered. The bottle of wine I ordered was somewhere in the neighborhood of $60.00. On the check, the bottle was priced at $148.00. Thankfully, I'm not a poor person, so that kind of increased does not particularly bother me, other than the fact that I feel that the staff had really done a very poor job doing their job, and they should really be looked at as to their competency in what they are actually doing and changing their customers. Furthermore, because the price of the bottle was so expensive, I took a quick look on my phone to see what that bottle of wine was actually going for in the open market. It was somewhere in the neighborhood of $35.00. All you have to do is look at the photos I've provided, and look up the wine, and this fact can easily be cooperated. Thus, I don't know if it was intentional incompetence, or wha? I got way overcharged for a bottle of wine that should not have been brought to my table in the first place by an incompetent staff member. All this being said, this is a very beautiful restaurant, One would expect it to be in the caliber of a Michelin-star restaurant. But, due to the staffing, it is nowhere near that level of perfection. It's like the old saying goes, what's beautiful on the outside is not necessarily beautiful on the inside. This is just something you should really keep in mind before you come here. And, even more than that, be very watchful over what they're serving you, because their incompetent staff members may really run up your bill. Management, get your act together! read more

Bourbon House lives up to its name. It sits prominently on Bourbon St. Definitely more of an upscale vibe but offers casual dining. I sat at the bar with my party. We sampled some of the more rare Bourbons. They are offer a very diverse Bourbon and Whiskey collection. Tried Boudain Balls and Charbroiled oysters on recommendation. They were fantastic. We were visiting Bourbon Street looking for a place to grab a bite to eat and noticed the Bourbon House. We were concerned that we were not dressed appropriately, and was drenched because it was raining, since it appeared to be an upscale restaurant. The hostess was very inviting and welcomed us in, despite our appearance. We sat in a lovely window table on the bar side and had a very pleasant experience. I ordered the Hot Honey Fried Chicken sandwich. The hot honey was not hot but a perfect addition to the fried chicken thigh. It was juicy and delicious. We also ordered corn and crab soup that came out in a small metal cup and the waiter poured it into the bowl. It was creamy and a good balance of corn and crab. The flavors were mild and satisfying. I visited this restaurant over the Mardi Gras weekend and unfortunately had a very disappointing experience from start to finish. We were seated in a corner where the space was extremely tight, and every time someone passed by, they bumped into my partner. It made the seating arrangement really uncomfortable for the duration of our visit. The host who walked us to our table also came across as a bit rude, which wasn't the best first impression. We were informed that there was no bottled water or sparkling water available, and they didn't have mint to make any mojitos. While I understand that Mardi Gras weekend can get extremely busy the service throughout the night was significantly delayed. I ordered a non-alcoholic drink which took over 25 minutes to arrive and when it finally did, it was not good at all. I waited for our server to return so I could address it, but he never came back. I eventually had to order a simple Sprite from another staff member. When we initially placed our drink order, we also placed our food order. Later, the waiter came back to "double check" our order, only to repeat the entire order incorrectly -- which led us to believe it may not have been entered in the first place. We ordered a dozen raw oysters and a dozen charbroiled oysters. The charbroiled oysters came out first, but the raw oysters didn't arrive until 27 minutes later. Our appetizer was also very late. Due to the continued delays and overall poor service, we ultimately decided to leave. Would not recommend to come here during a busy weekend. read more

Stopped in after the bad experience at Hard Rock cafe. Other than Bourbon, they do have craft beer here. We sat at the bar, wanted a taste of the "second line batture" beet but the bartender poured me a glass. Wasn't thrilled of the taste, but drank it just the same. It wasn't packed so why he poured it is the question. My guy ordered the "Brown Ale," it was a southern pecan and was pretty light for being a brown, which he said was too light and an OK beer! We decided to order the bourbon marinated pork belly bites! Very flavorful and tasty. Different from a Texas style burnt ends, but very good. The atmosphere was nice and relaxed, service just so so, the only bartender for the joint, so guess no time for small talk was a big NO! Stayed for the 1each, then decided to leave. Meh...a few things went right, a few were a little disappointing. We were just stopping through Nola and decided to lunch at Bourbon House. The hostess was extremely accommodating and thoughtful, letting us pick our table and holding our menus to allow us to get situated. It was early, the restaurant was not quite full but we waited some time for our server. She came over after about 15 minutes to introduce herself and excused herself again. Our waitress came back about 10 minutes later and took our order. I ordered the brussel sprouts, barbecued shrimp, and a ginger ale. The brussel sprouts were surprisingly good and tender for the amount of char they had. The balsamic glaze and goat cheese made it very savory. The shrimp was the perfect blend of sweet and savory. The garlic toast was good as well but knew it wasn't wise to consume it right before a 6hr car ride. I never received the ginger ale. Everyone else seemed to enjoy their food and drinks. The other issue I ran into was bottled water. At our servers suggestion, I ended up running to Walgreens to prepare a bottle. Even more inconvenient, there are no changing stations in the bathrooms. I ended up changing my baby on the sink of the bathroom in the Crowne Plaza. Just some things to think about when traveling with an infant. read more

Had a few extra minutes on my drive into town and decided to stop at Bourbon House for their delicious bbq shrimp poboy! Unfortunately, they don't take Togo orders online or over the phone. So I had to wait to order it once I got there. They were kind enough to put the delicious shrimp and sauce on the side, so the bread didn't get soggy on our way to our destination. Our service was good, but we didn't get drinks until after our entrees came out. We also spent some time waiting for a table even though we had a reservation. It was not worth the price at all. Made reservations at Dickie Brennan's Steakhouse for 12 before I realized that Dickie Brennan's Bourbon House was attached to our hotel. I asked to speak to the manager and asked if I could switch my reservation to the Bourbon House and add 6 bonus guests. He said no problem, wished me an early happy birthday and talked to me about heavy metal. We showed up and needed 2 more seats. Had the best experience sitting in front of their oyster shucking master at the bar and downing both fresh and char broiled oysters as a night cap to end our amazing second night in Nola! If you aren't a bourbon drinker, you will be once you have experienced some of the best bourbons here! However, the main downside was the lack of service, and I can see why some reviews are low. The food was just okay--nothing special. We came here with a bachelorette party on our last evening in town, planning to splurge a bit. Unfortunately, the service was pretty much non-existent. The maître d' was nowhere to be found; I saw her vaping in the bathroom while changing the toilet paper because there was none at all. Our server was friendly and quick to introduce herself but never returned to check on us or take our order properly. I even asked for bread, and she never brought it. It took a while to get drinks, and overall, the food was mediocre. Despite the disappointing service, my group of gals made the experience much better with their fun energy. The location is amazing right on bourbon street in a neighborhood with Felix and Acme Oyster bars. We were expecting amazing food to stand toe to toe with them. We were so disappointed. We were seated right away given our reservation. We ordered the char broiled oysters which came out right away before our drink order. It turned out the bar was short a tender. I was through most of the oysters and stopped cuz I wanted to do them together. They were fabulous . Large and buttery and garlicky. About 10 minutes later the drinks came out. Server was very apologetic. So no complaint with service. We ordered the shrimp in honey bourbon sauce and the fried catfish. I ordered a BLT cobb to share and the fried oyster platter. The shrimp appetizer included 4 small shrimp on a large airy bread. the sauce was amazing. The shrimp were okay. The salad was barely dressed with head lettuce. a generous amount of bacon and egg and 3 cherry tomatoes. No flavor from the dressing or the lettuce. A total waste of $11. The fried catfish portion was less than you get in fish and chips. They had no flavor. just a plain season-free batter and tiny fish parts. No fillet on a bed of regular fries with no seasoning. The whole food experience other than the charbroiled oysters was there was no one in the kitchen that cared about the food other than to get it on the plate. read more

Stopped by Bourbon House on my trip to New Orleans and overall it was a solid experience. The atmosphere was like an upscale ice cream parlar/ fine dining if that makes sense. Anyways, I had the blue crab claws and oysters, which were both fresh and flavorful. It was my first time trying charbroiled oysters and they were pretty good, though my cousin insists Drago's does them better. The gumbo was delicious with a nice depth of flavor, and the Harvest Salad was a fresh and lighter option to balance things out. Prices weren't outrageous, which was a pleasant surprise. For dessert, we had the apple bread pudding à la mode, and it was the perfect sweet ending warm, rich, and comforting. Big shoutout to Don, our server, who was friendly and attentive throughout the meal. Would definitely recommend Bourbon House for a good seafood experience in the French Quarter. Would I go back?
