Every time I dine at Bourbon Steak, the experience is excellent, but this most recent visit stood out. I was staying at the Fairmont Scottsdale Princess and dined there twice during my stay. When I returned for my second dinner, the host staff recognized me immediately before I even said a word. It set such a welcoming tone. The entire team operates with impressive professionalism and ease. From the hosts to the support staff, everything runs seamlessly - attentive without hovering, polished without feeling stiff. A special thank you to Devon, who has taken great care of me more than once, and has always made me feel so welcome. Also to the wonderful server from my first dinner whose name I unfortunately can't recall but whose hospitality absolutely stood out. Kevin, the Assistant GM, also stopped by to say hello, which was a nice touch. The food, as always, was outstanding. Refined, indulgent, and beautifully executed. But what really sets Bourbon Steak apart is how the experience feels. Confident. Personal. Effortless. There are plenty of great restaurants. 1) Restaurant pretty empty. Put us at a two top next to another couple. Tables were small (barely held main plates and three sides) maybe 18" apart. We could not have any sort of conversation without the other table hearing (no ambient noise bc restaurant was empty). Waiter had to stand between tables to cut neighboring table's lobster pot pie, putting his rear end right in our face. When that couple left, they were replaced with another! Yes, I know that there is a chance some sections were closed. But, this is fine dining, so come on! 2) Mashed potatoes had the texture of school cafeteria potatoes. Just thick enough to not be runny. 3) Creamed corn looked a bit like the contents of a diaper (probably the lighting). Oh and it was cold. 4) Filet was overcooked. Other steak was fine. 6) Mac and Cheese sauce was runny and went to bottom of pan. So, really just plain noodles on top. 7) Did not complain but they did comp one steak and one side anyways. 8) First dare night I did not order dessert because quite frankly, we just wanted out. 9) I don't believe I have ever left a bad review for any place. 10) Told hostesses on way out to see if in the future they can avoid sitting the small neighboring tables when the restaurant is so empty. Explained we were basically sat with another couple and had a waiter's bum in our face. They just said it is their system (gesturing to something on the counter I couldn't see) with a "sorry!" I suggested they let someone know the fatal flaw so it can be fixed. Based on the looks they gave me, I din't think they will. 11) Go to Maestro's, Steak 44/Dominick's, or Durants. Part of my bucket list of one "best" steakhouse in every state. Bourbon is a worthy entry for Arizona. It blows you away with its presence immediately with complimentary valet parking for your dining experience, excellent aesthetic, and friendly staff. The entire facility is gorgeous. The food is thoughtfully and masteffully crafted. There's no true one way to cook a steak and getting Bourbon's take on it was both interesting and tasty. Along the way to the main course I got to enjoy a delightful appetizer or two that risked filling me up quicker than I planned. If there's a better steakhouse in Arizona, let alone the greater Phoenix area, I have yet to get a hint of it. read more

This is an overpriced, out of place, no ambience, sterile, BS place to eat. Some of the food was OK, but basically if you wanna take a few hundred dollar bills and just burn them at the table, you could watch the smoke and be better entertained than the pompous way in which that restaurant is run. I've eaten some really good steakhouses. This was not one of them. The ambience of the restaurant doesn't even fit with Scottsdale. Very disappointed to say the least. read more

My family and I had a two night vacation booked at the Fairmont resort for the first week of December for the Christmas Wonderland experience. We usually go for one night each year but this year we really wanted to take advantage of everything it offers and it is so hard for us to get it all in and only one night. We had been to Bourbon Steak probably about 6 to 7 years earlier and were amazed by what a different experience it was. The first experience we had was kind of funny because the menus were so ridiculously heavy one of our servers actually accidentally dropped a menu on my head and nearly gave me a concussion, it's funny now because it's been so long. Of course the first thing I did is eye the menu, and not for the food offerings, but for the weight to make sure I was safe! I'm kidding. It was the most amazing experience this time around. We had such an incredible server-Antonio. He was so attentive, so timely, so accommodating to our young children as well as us. He also really took his time explaining the bar items to both my husband and my father-in-law as they are big bourbon guys. We enjoyed the complimentary duck fat fries and thought that was a creative alternative to the regular bread and butter we usually fill up on. We all split a chopped salad, which was so delicious and they divided it in four plates for us and it was more than enough food. We also each shared a fillet, and the whipped potatoes. The sides are very generous. We probably could've gotten one side and split it by four people. The food was absolutely amazing. It was so delicious. I will say it was very heavy when you're not used to eating that way so I wouldn't suggest to eat so late, but we walked it off at Christmas village. We had no room for dessert, sadly because the menu looked great and I saw other people eating dessert that looked delicious, but not a single thing could fit in to our bellies after those delicious duck fat fries, the wedge salad, the steak and potatoes. We definitely want to go back and we really commend the incredible excellent service we had. Truly, our server made it all the more enjoyable. This was slow, horrid and excruciatingly exhausting for a 1 hour and 30 min dinner. Food came cold, took 40 min for OYSTERS to be served and overall was just a painful experience. Much left to be desired. Steak was cooked, but arrived cold, so there is a clear issue with order of the timing regarding firing versus serving. Glasses sat empty for over an hour. First off, the service was unmatched -- led by Devon, who either missed his calling as an actor or is simply that passionate about the restaurant and its food. He walked us through the entire menu and immediately addressed my partner's gluten and dairy sensitivities with confidence. He essentially curated the perfect meal for us. I'll admit, I was a little embarrassed to order my steak well done here, but Devon saved me from having to request it butterflied -- he recommended it himself. Shoutout to Devon -- thank you for everything. We won't forget this meal. Now, the food... wow. I had the filet, and it literally melted in my mouth. I've heard people say that before, but this time it was true. Highly recommended. The horseradish whipped potatoes (another spot-on recommendation from Devon) paired perfectly with the filet. My girlfriend had the skirt steak with chimichurri and a side of asparagus -- both were incredible (and yes, I definitely helped her with the asparagus). What really made the evening special were all the extras and chef's surprises: first, an assortment of French fries with dipping sauces -- all fantastic -- followed by individual servings of hamachi crudo. We started with the shellfish platter and the seafood was fresh. It was perfectly smothered in red miso butter whip complemented the natural sweetness from the seafood. The cocktails were very good our servant Keaton was amazing and with the extra bio for every little detailed items that we asked for, it is located right in the lobby of the princess hotel so all the festive lights and groundwork and everything was really beautiful. The duck fat fries were really good and among the 3 dipping sauces that accompany it I really liked the pickled ketchup. That was a first for me. We've been to Bourbon Steak many times over the years and always had an amazing experience, this time unfortunately we did not. We were seated in a room outside of the main restaurant which was odd, especially since part of the fun of going to Bourbon Steak is enjoying the ambience of the restaurant. I commented to the server that the seating wasn't ideal and she shrugged and said maybe they felt sorry for her since she didn't have any tables... To start my husband had a whiskey cocktail that he's enjoyed in the past but this time he said it wasn't very whiskey forward and had way too many bitters. We started with the hamachi crudo followed by the Cesar salad. Both of those items were delicious. I pre-ordered the Lobster Pot Pie and my husband opted for the New York Wagyu medium rare and whipped potato's. His steak came out like shoe leather to the point he couldn't cut into it. The "whipped" potato's had the consistency of soup. They did bring him another steak which was good, and a side of twice baked potato. I was left to eat my pot pie while he waited for his food. The steak arrived fairly quickly but the potato arrived 20 minutes after the steak. The server removed the sides from our bill and offered a free dessert but for a $400 dinner it would have been nice to actually sit in the restaurant and eat our meals at the same time. Needless to say I don't think we will be returning to Bourbon Steak anytime soon. It's a shame because we've enjoyed it personally and enjoyed bringing clients to the location. read more

First thing's first, Devon was our server and he was fantastic. We started with the duck fat fries which were delicious. Then we had a spoon bite of mushroom arancini. We were nervous about this because neither of us like mushrooms. But we went for it anyways, and it was so good! I had the Japanese A5 Ribeye which was delicious and worth the price, and my son had the Artic Char. For dessert we had the Beignets and got the cutest little birthday ice cream cone! First off, I believe all bread baskets should be replaced with French fries and a trio of dipping sauces. After eating this I was fed and happy again, and no longer hangry, to my boyfriend's relief. I have now been to Bourbon Steak, each time I used Travelzoo discounts. This is a really good restaurant that is normally out of reach price wise, but when there are deals, it's hard to pass up because it's a great experience. The food is amazing, the service is attentive, but basically the food is amazing. My friend and I split a steak and tried several apps. I don't even like french fries, but the sauces that the starter fries came out with were really good (yes, I'd prefer bread, but oh well). The yellow tail sashimi was fantastic. I could've eaten a few plates of that. The shrimp cocktail had huge shrimp. The heirloom tomato salad was really good with an amazing sauce and cheeses. The only thing I was disappointed in was the king crab tortellini, but I don't like crab. My friend wanted to try it, and I thought it might be more creamy than crabby. It was highly crabby, so if you like crab, you might appreciate it. My friend got a dessert to go. Nothing on the dessert menu struck my fancy (I'm really picky with desserts). I came out with a group of my coworkers to Bourbon Steak and we had a fantastic time. Service was spectacular and the physical environment is gorgeous. Cocktails are probably the best deal, with most priced around $17-18. My "rebellious" old fashioned (made with rye, brown sugar, and walnut bitters) was a hit. I really enjoyed the cocktail menu, with one half the menu being the "traditional" recipe and the other side labeled "rebellious," with unique twists on each cocktail. I'd come back in a heartbeat for cocktails and appetizers (the tuna tartare is mixed at tableside and is so good!). That said, don't come here expecting a small bill. A group of 8 of us blew through about 2K, which could have bought us a tasting menu at many places around Phoenix (or a Michelin-starred tasting menu in other cities for that matter). Prices for many steaks are about $10-20 per dish higher than other steakhouses in town. The lobster pot pie is listed as market price and was $105 when we came. It was delicious, but I question whether any single dish is $105 delicious... but maybe I'm just cheap. :) Overall, an excellent experience but come knowing that it comes at a high price point. read more
