    Why is GB wide open?
    Steve R.

We live in a COVID world and I am trying to figure out.m why the owner Sue and her Bartenders(Kim) don't wear masks? I used to always go here. Support them. Brought friends & family here. Not anymore. Not since my g/f's brother died of COVID-19 and the people at this establishment are defiant about the mask with their big sign when u walk in the door and how I or anyone doesn't have to answer health questions about not wearing a mask. Dive bar that is not disability friendly. Grandfathered in. I don't care if this place along with several on Broadway close up where people don't wear masks and spread crap and don't educate their mind. I refuse to support foolish place's and their uneducated mentality. And now that I am in a wheelchair I have no way getting into the bar. I seen rave reviews on the fish fri on Fri nights , it is kinda lame. Way over-priced and there are much better ones in GB. Go to Eddy Whipps for example... . They wear masks. People are plenty far apart. They wear gloves(employees). That is one of many I could recommend. I can't support a grumpy owner that thinks the virus is fake and tears into some of her employees verbally.m. She is very short with customers as well. Here we are: 11/17/2020 and how many have died in WI as of yesterday? How many keep going into the hospital? My g/f's brother had a wonderful business. He didn't think this virus was really and would not wear a mask. He didn't think it was real right up until the day he did alone in the ER in Appleton after being there for 7 days. Well: it's real. A virus doesn't know a political party or if you as a person thinks it is real or not. I just can't support one of many bars in Broadway where no one wears a bask behind the bar. They belong to the mighty Taverns League and st one time were suing the governor over the safety of masks! Really! I guess that's their right. Meanwhile people are still getting sick going in the hospital in the higher the numbers ago and the more people to go in the hospital the more people will die from this. I wish the police of Green Bay enforce the guidelines of businesses working with the public NOT wearing masks

I've been here a couple of times for their Friday Fish Fry. They keep the tradition of South Broadway Dive bars by being small and dark, but the people and staff were pretty friendly. The other half of the bar is a dining area if you prefer not to eat at the bar. The last time I was there, I had a group of twelve, and was lucky there wasn't a crowd so we were able to get a table for all of us. Similar to supper clubs, you order your food at the bar and when it's ready they seat you. I ordered the perch with coleslaw and potato salad and YES it was fantastic. Everyone seemed to enjoy their food. It's definitely a hidden gem for a fish fry.

Ordered the "surf n turf" which the pepper steak with Cajun shrimp added. It seemed "rebellious" to top a cheesesteak w shrimp. The rebellion worked!! It was great. I actually took half home and it was even better after the ride home. We ordered tots to share. Maybe I wasn't paying attention, because when the food arrived I thought the tots looked weird. Then my son showed me that they are "Tetris Tots" (see pic). So fun!!!! Anyway... get out and support local business serving delicious fun at a reasonable price!!! Totally recommend.

The inside almost feels like a house that was renovated into a restaurant in the coolest way possible with a very open layout, stripped-down feel, and a super unique kitchen setup literally right behind the bar. If you're a Star Wars fan, this place is a must. The theme throughout the restaurant was awesome and definitely added to the experience for us since we're huge Star Wars people. The staff overall was really friendly and welcoming too. Special shoutout to the hostess Lea super friendly... wink wink if you know, you know. Our server was chipper and sweet the whole time. She did accidentally get our drinks wrong and forgot the cheese on my burger, but honestly it wasn't a huge deal because she was so nice about everything. The burger itself was decent but a little dry. I did appreciate the extra pickles though because that's exactly how I like it. Now let's talk about the real reason to go here- drumroll... Cheese Whiz cheesesteak. Absolutely incredible. Honestly one of the best cheesesteaks I've had in a long time and 100% worth the drive alone. The cheese curds were also really good and definitely worth ordering for the table. And when I mean drive I mean drive, just a few hours south from Chicago aka Bear land, GO BEARS Overall, not every single item blew us away, but the atmosphere, Star Wars theme, friendly staff, and THAT cheesesteak made this place memorable. We'd absolutely come back just for the Cheese Whiz sandwich.

That said, there were a few things that made the visit less enjoyable. The hightop chairs had no backs and there wasn't enough coat hooks to put my winter coat on. My coat ended up sitting and sliding in my lap. The wait for food was longer than expected. All this to say, after sitting for a while waiting on our meal, it became pretty uncomfortable. I ordered a Turkey Avocado Bacon Panini which was delicious! It came with the option of homemade garlic fries or sweet potato fries. I choose the sweet potatoes fries. They came with a sugar coating which brought a sweet and savoryness to the meal! Overall, the food was good, but not enough to outweigh the inconvenience. I probably wouldn't return for dinner, but I'd consider stopping in for a quick drink to enjoy the atmosphere.

The main dining room can get very loud on busy nights so I appreciated the more closed off space for a large dinner event. The caveat being we received spotty service - for example, water pitchers were set in the corner and you had to get up to pour your own water. At minimum, it would've been better to just leave pitchers on the table directly for faster access. Food was hit or miss. While we loved the appetizers, half of our table found their main entrees to be MEH. For example, my halibut arrived warm but the curry was room temperature. My colleague said her burger was one of the worst she's had. My other colleague said his steak was mediocre. People who ordered pizza loved it. An unfortunate mixed bag given the lively environment and nice ambiance. I'd come back again to give it another try because the menu rotates enough where I'm sure I'll land on some better food options next time.
