    Salt Jalapeno Salt Bagel

This is a great bagel shop! The staff was really friendly and helpful. We both got bagels with cream cheese. I was also so happy cause I love a salt bagel and they had two varieties! They have coffee, tea, and a very expansive menu. The bagels were soft in the middle with a slight crunch on the outside. A really good bagel! We will be back.

"A charming and skilled bagel shop that seems to be popular among locals" Food: I had the salmon bagel and was satisfied. The salmon was cured, yet it felt fresh, and it paired well with the vegetables. Service: The staff kindly explained the menu in detail, which was very helpful in making a choice. Ambiance: The shop wasn't large, but it was very clean, and the staff seemed lively and energetic.

Love the people that work here, LOVE the bagels, and love the variety of bagels. They have a great selection of cream cheeses and tasty flavors for coffee drinks. We visit every time we're in Portland for breakfast.

The Dan Burnside Breakfast Sandwich on Garlic and Herb Bagel

Bagel sandwich was AMAZING!! I got the Dan Burnside and every bite was scrumptious. I think they use white cheddar, whatever it was had an amazing flavor that went great with the egg and bacon. They only had one other order but they were very fast! Staff were very welcoming and friendly. Sandwich cost $10, a bit expensive for my taste. I am also new to living in Portland so I'm not sure how bad that is. I'd rate 4 stars for the price if the bagel wasn't seriously delicious.

Excuse my deconstruction. Showing off this incredible lox

As a Jew, an LA native and a Jewish family in Philadelphia, I know my bagels. Something I've terribly missed since moving to Portland and this brought me right back. These bagels are life changing and the lox is insanely high quality. No pale lox! The bagel texture was great with no skimping on toppings or cream cheese. They are true PERFECT New York bagels and the atmosphere of the small shop only helps. The backsplash is adorned with New York Subway tiles with a couple stools to down your bagel. I was blown away with the quality of the lox. All the cream cheese options are listed as "schmears" which warms my heart. Staff is super awesome and friendly. Vegan options available.

Stopped in here when I was in town last month and really liked it! I'm a sucker bagels with lox and cream cheese and Sarah's Special really hit the spot. My mom got the Bacon Egg N Cheese and loved it. Service was quick and friendly. Only thing I'd critique is that it would be nice if they had barstools or something to sit on, just has a little standing shelf at the front window. But I get it, it's not really meant to linger it's more for people on the go. Regardless I'll definitely be back.

The staff was soooo nice and the bagel was yummy and warm. If it was cut in half all the way it would have been perfect.

Bowery was a bummer! First: I love that all of their bagels are vegan, even the ones you wouldn't expect to be (I'm looking at you, Parmesan!). Second: they have a great collection of vegan spreads. Here's the first problem: at 7am when I went, I asked the employee if they'd be better toasted or just as they are. She said toasted -- which, not to be a bagel snob, is a red flag because 7am is *when they open* and you'd expect them to be warm and ready. The bagel itself, toasted, was decent. I just don't think it should have to be. I got coffee with it and it was very bad. Second problem: their vegan cream cheese was actually awful. Not sure what all of the positive reviews here were talking about. It's a cashew-based cream cheese that errs on the side of grainy. One cashew protip: soak them first!!! Another one: use a Vitamix! This did NOT meet the mark. Unfortunately there was no seating and there is also no public seating nearby because Portland hates homeless people so please do not expect to have somewhere to sit and enjoy your bagel.

This is a hidden gem in old town but honestly it's always the places you'd least expect like this that pop off. The place is super busy and I can see why. Idk why the reviews are sleeping on it!! I'm still not over the Dan burnside on a chipotle salt bagel I just had. Only had to wait a few min and it came out so fresh! Can confirm that all ingredients are fresh and not premade. Latte with lavender and vanilla was delish too!! Also s/o Gillian and David, some of my fave baristas in Portland. They are so personable and always on it!

We got here at 10am on a Monday, and every table was filled. It looked like they had numerous staff, but I would guess that the traffic level must be hard to manage. Perhaps because of this, my order of Sawmill breakfast was very poorly prepared. The gravy was luke warm at best. The eggs had the texture of frozen powdered egg that was just thawed. The biscuit was like a brick and hard to eat. I also saw numerous other patrons who were leaving their scrambled eggs untouched. The chicken tenders were warm and delicious, and the quiche was decent. Salad was probably the highlight. Besides that, I think the vibes inside the restaurant were very beautiful and memorable. Just unfortunate that the food was very sub par. I probably wouldn't recommend if you were trying to impress someone important.

The garlic fries were spicy in the best way, perfectly crisp, and served steaming hot. The Duck Stack (pancakes covered with duck gravy, onions, and a duck egg) sounded a bit odd to me (and probably many others). When I asked the server if it was good, they told me that people travel to the restaurant specifically for that dish. I'm glad I tried it. Again, very unique with a well balanced spice profile paired with the delicious undertones of a hot pancake. I know I would have never thought of that, doesn't sound like it should work, but....it worked! Service was great, atmosphere was a bit loud with a band playing next door, it was a bit overwhelming, plus a random dude walked into the restaurant and a server lit his joint for him as a courtesy(?)...stunk the place up for a few minutes, but as I thought about it, I decided that was about the most "Portland" thing I had seen all week on my trip :) I'll be going back for sure, I would love to taste through that entire menu. Vibe wise, the ambience is overall really nice. I think having rolled flatware, even with just upgraded napkins, would better complete the aesthetic you initially see and feel. This would also connect with the price point of the food and quality of the beverages. As a fellow server, on that note I would expect more consistent stronger visual appearance standards with servers. (Sorry guys! But some of you looked great!) Overall, I'd definitely join a friend for coffee and lunch over there in the future. Just wouldn't be my top pick for a celebratory brunch or intimate dinner with a date or friends and fam.
