The Fish was definitely Fresh. Waiting for the Fish and Chips was not really that worth waiting for over an Hour. There were so manyyy people lined up for this Fish and Chips. I'm not sure if I was too hyped up for it or not. I was just so hungry LOL. The Chips were yummy though! The prices were decent approximately $10-12 bucks per combo or meal. Drinks were $2 bucks each. Only two tables. The drinks you can just grab outside their little boat. There is Astoria right next to this place so you can go eat at a nice view and enjoy this place though. Not sure if i'll come back, if I lived here I might though. read more

Best fish and chips ever! Really! The menu is limited...you can get fish and chips or fish or chips...and a drink. Don't worry about the line...it moves quickly. The fish was cooked perfectly with a light but tasty breading. The chips are steak fries and are seriously the best ever. I will make the two hour drive back there sooner vs later! read more

CASH ONLY!!! I got lucky and there was no wait when I arrived. They have a very minimal seating area. Hands down the best fish and chips I've tried! Light and crispy battered tuna pieces that comes with tartar sauce and ketchup. You can also ask for malt vinegar for your fish. Fish and batter ratio was just right. This is a must try in Astoria. Get there before you are too hungry as there will likely be a line. The fish and chips is made with tuna which is firm and flavorful. It is definitely one of those Oregon experiences that everyone should try at least a dozen or so times. read more

After all the great reviews I was really looking forward to hanging out in Astoria and getting some tasty fish & chips. Of course we parked in the wrong place: so heads up, folx, don't use the Navy's parking lot and find a place where you're allowed to leave your vehicle. Another tip: bring cash! They do not accept another form of payment. And these were maybe the best.steak.fries.ever?!!! Really big, juicy yet crunchy on the outside. I would return for the fries only, seriously. But now I have to share that I was not as impressed with the fish as I hoped I would be. I could tell it was cod -- Dutch fish carts only use it as a 'luxury' item, going for white fish from the Atlantic ocean more frequently, because it is 'meatier'. The fish itself was flaky, good quality, and not overcooked; but perhaps it had been really busy before our turn that day, perhaps the kitchen had a bad day, whatever the reason, I could really taste the oil on the very well panko&batter&breaded fish, so I think it needed replacing -- unfortunately for us. It was still good enough for 4 stars, though, from the great steak fries. Plus, as a fish&chips lover, I am going to come back another time to give them a second chance. Wow, so good. People kept telling us to stop and check these guys out and we finally did. Wish we had sooner because this is some amazing fish. You'll want to go for the full order, otherwise you'll wish you had like me. I was eating the crumbs from the paper just to savor the taste after it was gone. Haha! Perfect crispy batter with soft moist fish inside. The fries are properly cooked and very crispy steak fries. Such friendly people who run this boat on land. Don't miss them when you come into town next! I know I will be back for more If you don't have cash, there is an atm at the gas station nearby. Worth the wait if there is a line read more

Pro-tip: Go during a rainstorm in the midst of a pandemic. NO LINE! I've never been a huge fish and chips fan. Turns out that's because I had never before had Bowpicker Fish & Chips. My god, that first bite of hot, crispy, flavorful albacore tuna was so good it was damn near religious. I am a convert and will gladly return to this forever-landlocked boat to worship at the altar of delicious fried fish. Praise Poseidon! The only other menu item is the fries, and they're OK. Honestly, I think if I went back I'd just do the fried fish and tartar sauce. Just stupid good. I wish there were picnic tables or something, but maybe that's a COVID-era precaution? Anyhow, I didn't care that I had to eat in my car because these things are worth the inconvenience, and the lingering smell. read more

For all the hype and lines down the block I was just not overly impressed. I tried this place right before COVID and it was always super slammed. A friend came to town from Portland and begged me to go with because she had heard it was the best in Oregon so I went. It's not bad I just think anytime there is a lot of hype about something you expect something out of the ordinary and it was just decent tuna fish and commercially cut French fries like from Sysco or something. I didn't hate it but if I want fish and chips I'll just go to Mos or Buoy anywhere really. read more

WOWOWOW these fish & chips are SOOO good! We went on a Saturday around 1:30pm and there weren't too many people in line, so we didn't have to wait too long. The fish and chips are light and delicate and not greasy at all- basically perfection! They were very nice and friendly & appreciative of having our business. We took our fish and chips down near the water and it was such a lovers lunch. Next time we're in Astoria, we're definitely coming back and would recommend this place to anyone! So glad we chose bowpicker for our one meal in Astoria! read more

Always a long line, but so worth the wait. Five pieces of perfectly cooked albacore in the "whole order" (with fries), with the lightest crispy coating I've ever had. The absolute best Fish & Chips I have had from Seattle,San Francisco Mexico and Hawaii to Maine and Florida absolutely nothing compares.Cash is king and I have no problem with that. I love the idea of fish and chips. I have searched long and hard for what I would consider great tasting fish and chips. Almost without fail that search has resulted in a greasy disheartening meal. But I'm glad to say that search finally came to a satisfying end at Bowpicker. Of all the fish and chips I've had this is without doubt the best. Light and tasty batter. Not greasy and the fries are nice and crispy. Fish and chips are all they do. And that's all they need to do when it's done this good. read more

I have been wanting to come here for so long. I have actually drove from Beaverton to here twice, once on a Sunday and once on a Friday and both times it was closed! I checked Yelp to make sure they were open and they were! So the low rating is 100% due to false information being advertised. read more

Maybe I was there on an off day but the fish seemed incredibly bland. I was there about a year ago and it was quite good so who knows. I ended up sitting at an old picnic table across the street and had to fight off the birds. Not the best experience. read more

Bowpicker has over 400 reviews and now I know why. I honestly wasn't expecting much because it's just fish and chips, but with each bite of the fish I kept thinking/saying how good it tasted. I got a half order (3 pieces of fish with fries) and my boyfriend got a whole order (5 pieces of fish with fries) and this was the perfect amount of food for us. I personally didn't care for the fries very much, but the fish is what really matters! The ladies working here are so nice and friendly! They also work very hard and keep the line moving at a fair pace. I came on a Saturday and arrived about 15 minutes after they opened. There was already a line of about 20-25 people, but it only took about 20 minutes until I was eating my food. There's not much seating around (maybe one or two tables) so expect to eat in your car. I'm not sure when I'll ever be back in Astoria, but I will probably come back here again whenever I do return! read more

History

Established in 2000.

My husband came up with the idea. We sell our fish & chips out of a retired gillnet boat as a way of preserving a piece of maritime history on the Columbia River and as a way to make a living. It has grown a lot in the last 25 years. Our family has continued to run the business with about 4 additional employees. We have always strived for consistency and tried to serve the best tasting fish and chips.
