It was Sunday 6/16 and the USCG Eagle was in port for visitation, Father's Day and the Astoria Market. Did a lot of walking and were hungry. Had a cute outside area to sit and eat lunch. Jessica was wonderful and helped us with our choices, she was right on! The fish was hot, cooked perfectly and was SO FRESH. I had Hurricane Chowder and it was delicious, hot and was full of fish, crab, scallops and shrimp (of course there were potatoes). The flavor was fantastic!!! The beer was COLD. Okay this place looks super cute on the outside, even when you come in it's intriguing. Don't fall for it, run! I'm shocked this place is still in business. We sat down and the table was sticky there was still crumbs on the table and a really musty smell. They bring our water over it's in a plastic pitcher with a crack in it and some disposable plastic cups. We look at the menu and see Camel burgers and Kangaroo burgers (erm...) my friend says "we could always leave?" jokingly. We decided to ride it out. I played it safe got the fish and chips, another friend got the chicken melt and the other got the Wagyu burger. I don't think I have ever had more bland food that tasted like it had been sitting in oil. Our friends burger? Yep, pink inside. We ended up getting to go boxes to not seem rude and left quickly laughing that it was definitely an experience. The next day, I realized the server never gave me my card back either. We were so caught up trying to escape I didn't even realize. Do yourself a favor and don't have an "experience" like we did. Ron will give you a hurricane in your tummy that's for sure. read more

Wonderful food, staff were all friendly and courteous, and you couldn't beat the relaxing environment. Definitely worth the stop. This place is a gem. I swear it's everything. The decor is EVERYTHING. Reminds me of an old coworker who collected everything and was such a vibe to be around. There is no sense to it, yet it makes sense hahaha. You have to check out the decorations, the bearded dragons were so fun for the kids to look at, the friendly super humble owner saw the kids and he took the dragons out for them to pet. I went here a couple of weeks ago when my Aunt & Uncle were here from Arizona because I had heard that they had fresh fish options on the menu and outdoor seating for dogs. Omg the Hurricane Chowder is to die for!! This is more of a Seafood Chowder, because of the many types of seafood in the Chowder. This is NO clam chowder. The hurricane comes in a bread bowl, it is a meal in its self. Do not order Hurricane Chowder and another Entree, boy way too much food. We ate in the bar area - very interesting eclectic decor. Lots of Vietnamese influence - not surprising as Ron travelled extensively in Asia and his wife (the chef) is from Vietnam. Finding the entrance is tricky, first walked in, and thought I was at the wrong business, (looks like you're walking into a bar). Fried oysters and crab dinners all got 5 stars.. raw oysters were delicious as well. The calamari strips were too salty. The crab dinner was totally worth the money! The crab was delicious and it came with a side salad (amazing!) and clam chowder (unfortunately, the flavor was overpowered with too much bacon, herbs, and pepper, but still ok).. I did take away a star mainly for ambience, the place really needs a good cleaning. Even though some odor is understandable, since they work with a ton of seafood, the strong old fishy smell was off-putting to a number of people in our party. Now, onto the food: absolutely phenomenal. The clam chowder was easily one of the best I've ever had--rich, creamy, and packed with fresh clams and the hurricane chowder was a mix of seafood favorites with amazing flavor. The oysters were incredibly fresh, served ice-cold with a perfect briny snap. And the fish and chips? Light, crispy, and flaky with a batter that was just right. Everything tasted like it had been caught that morning, because it was; we watched as it was delivered. We ordered the razor clam on a stick and 3 oysters on a half shell plus drinks. Drinks - The Berrygood was refreshing and the blue Hawaiian hit me within 10 minutes. Both refreshing and enjoyable. Visited Astoria on a Sunday and many of the restaurants and stores we wanted to go to were closed. We ended up eating here because we wanted seafood. We got the crab cocktail, clam and chips, cioppino and half gallon of steamed clams. The clams in the clam and chips were kinda chewy and over cooked but I liked that it has minimal breading. The steamed clams had tons of sand still in it. Some were ok but most still had sand which made it unappetizing. When we asked, the server told us "that's not bad. I have seen worse." Then he proceeded to tell us how they attempt to get the sand out of the clams. The cioppino had good flavor though and service was decent. With the price I would expect higher quality food. Stopped at Hurricane Ron's for lunch during our visit to Astoria, Oregon. I had the fried oysters and they were pretty good... crunchy coating and delicious and tender on the inside. The order, which was $19, came with fries, cole slaw, lemon, tartar sauce, and a slice of toast. I think there were half a dozen oysters in my order and they weren't very big, so it was probably pricier than I'm used to. My friend ordered the crab stuffed mushrooms to share and they were delicious! The picture of the fried oysters shows the mushroom, but be aware that it didn't come with the oysters! He was fantastic with my entire family including my kids (11 of us in total). Don't let the other review sway you. It's 100% worth the stop and the seafood is as fresh as it gets.
