All Ive heard for years while living in the SF Bay area (from someone close to me) was how we needed a box city like the one in Woodland Hills area. Every time I moved or packed anything. How great the staff is. How awesome the store is. How they work with you. Well today I finally made it in. Either the place has changed or the staff is different or they are doing so well they just don't care that much anymore except for bottom line profits. Bubble burst. They weren't helpful at all, and didn't seem to want to help me figure out how to solve my need. They didn't really seem to care much at all about my order. Maybe they were having a bad day. Not sure. I was in a great mood going in. They totally sucked it away. Wont be coming back here and would definitely not recommend this location to anyone. They sell every size box imaginable, which is very convenient when you don't know exactly what size you need. They come in corrugated boxes, gift boxes, and everything else in between. One time, I went there and asked for a bunch of "ingredients" for me to pack the box once I got home, and they were nice enough to do it all for me. It saved me a lot of time, and I definitely appreciated that. While I don't have an everyday need for this place, they will get my business whenever the need arises. read more

Been here 3 times now and I'll continue to come back! All 3 times I've walked in, told them what I need and within seconds they have it for me and for a great price. For example: I walked in today and asked for 40 small padded envelopes. I was looking at a certain type and the employee suggested I buy a different type that gives me a price break at 50 and comes out cheaper. Sold! He promptly counted 50 envelopes, got them in a bag for me, and rung me up. I was in and out of there in less than 5 minutes and spent all of $10. read more

I needed help packing a big in wall microwave and they were more than happy to help and it was much less than what I expected! They did an amazing job packing and made my day so much better because I couldn't figure out how to ship such a big item. This is the best Box City location!! The customer service is stellar; polite, friendly and helpful. They help you find what you need, they offer a discount if you buy a dozen different sized boxes and they offer help out to your car. I was searching for some inexpensive moving boxes, and I hit the jackpot at Box City! They have every sized box imaginable, and the prices are about 30% (or less) of what you'd pay at Home Depot or UPS. When I went to check out, the teller pointed me to some similar boxes to what I was getting that were even less expensive. I ended up buying all the boxes I needed for my move-about 5x more than what I was expecting to buy-for less than I was expecting to pay for the day. The boxes are great quality, too-very durable. It's far from downtown LA, but it was worth the drive to the valley. read more

Unfortunately for me I just had some nasty knee surgery but I have a large item I needed to ship but needed a box first. Drove to Box City and met Eric who was outside helping to unload a delivery. He saw me with crutches and asked how he could help. The item I needed boxed was in the back of my truck. Eric told me to go ahead and sit in the truck that he would get it boxed and tapped up and would bring it out and load it into my truck. I was floored. Service I have just never seen just about anywhere. It's not like I'm a hot girl, I'm a tall ugly dude! Eric took care of everything and sent me on my way without any hesitation of helping or getting me on the road. I cannot say if this service is the product of the company policy, the store management, or just a very friendly and helpful employee. A great place to get shipping supplies. The crew is extremely knowledgeable and helpful. I used to use them quite a bit more when I ran a side business performing ebay auction assistance, but they are still the best for finding specialty packing materials and at a fair price. They literally have 1000 different box types, as well as packing materials and can foam fill for maximum protection if necessary. They were extremely helpful when I needed to send 2 rare paintings this week cross country and recommended a very good solution so that I could securely ship the contents. I am so disappointed by my experience here this afternoon. I've been raving about this Box City for over ten years, telling everyone and anyone that they are the very best place to go for all of your boxes, moving, and shipping needs. Sadly that ends today. I came in to purchase individual poly bags to use for some gifts, something I have done dozens of times. They sell their shipping bags in packs of 100, but as I found out years ago, they will sell you individuals if the pack was already open. I spoke to two different employees as I only needed 5 medium sized bags and both proceeded to tell me that they have never had that policy and you can only buy bags in packs of 100 with the exception of the largest bags. For ten years I've been coming in two to three times a year to purchase clear bags by the handful. 5 here, 6 there, etc. As long as I chose from packs that were already open, they always charged me a per piece price and sold them to me with a smile. Here I was given multiple versions of, "I'm sorry but that has never been the case." Which isn't true. Still sadder was the fact that they didn't seem terribly interested in retaining my business. Possibly because of the small scale of my needs for today's tranactions. But again, I've sent then literally hundreds of customers over the past ten years. One of those potential customers was a friend I had with me on my trip to the store today. He was appalled by their lack of service and I am terribly embarrassed for having given them such high reviews in the past. They claim nothing has changed, but it most certainly has. I no longer recommend this establishment. Take the extra time to find what you need on ebay, amazon, or uline. There are plenty of vendors who will be happy to have your business. This isn't one of them, it has turned into a place where you're just another number instead of the lovely neighborhood packing store who valued their patrons it once was. He also was the only one on duty on a Sunday, and did an excellent job of waiting on all customers while making progress on the packing job. He deserves special commendation. read more

I have been there a few times over the last few years. Can't understand how they say over 2000 boxes and every time I go they don't. 23x18x20 standard size and they don't carry it. They said not enough room to carry that size. They have a book with over 2000 boxes maybe but your not getting your box. read more
