Since I went on a Saturday I felt compelled to do the cheese wheel experience. Where they cook fettuccine pasta inside a giant wheel of cheese. Added a protein option as well for a lil more substance as well. The dish as incredible! The cheese sauce was so rich and creamy and I def need to come back and try it with the chicken. My server told me I should ask for the chicken blackened (the chicken is $9 but if you get it blackened it's $2 extra). The price for the pasta on its own before adding a protein was competitive when you compare the portion size. Be warned that the cheese wheel experience is only available Thurs-Saturday but it's so fun! It's akin to going to a Mexican restaurant that offers tableside guac or going to a hibachi restaurant! Can't beat the show! This place is great to go for a date, special occasion, whatever! Easily one of the best Italian spots in Northern Virginia!

The rest were calamari rings which were incredibly rubbery. The GF pasta was cooked OK but it was pretty stuck to each others. The red sauce was .. so so. Also after having had SO much seafood this week for RW it really stood out to be how strong it smelled fishy compared to allllll the other calamari / fish / oysters / hamachi crudo / dover sole / branzino / whole head on shrimp etc I've eaten over the last 10 plus days... like it substantively smelled strong and pungent. Needless to say I didn't finish it. They were kind and provided a lemon filled sorbet for desert and i appreciated that- it was a little too sweet for me and the other RW deserts seemed just Ok... I had mentioned we had 3 birthdays on deck and they saw the gift bags- so our server acknowledged it at the start of the meal that we mentioned it on the resi-but surprised absolutely nothing came of it... Then when they were lifting a sauce to remove it from the table - a lot of it spilled into an almost full glass of wine (fair to say it may have been my friends fault as she helped hand the dishes over) and we asked if they could replace it, and they just charged us for a second glass... Music was a little too loud albeit GREAT pop music selections, but appreciated the brightness of the windows. She needs to host a training for area managers...anyhoo- We started off with bruschetta and a Margherita pizza, and the fried egg plant. We were happy with all. Our first round of cocktails consisted of drinks suggested by our server Marco. The Hugo Spritz for me, strawberry margarita and the honey dew cucumber cocktail...all were excellent choices! For our entrees we enjoyed the sea bass, the shrimp capellinia and the fruiti Del Mar. 10/10 for our entrees...no complaints. We even tried just about all the desserts. Midnight at Tuscany, Lemon Mascarpone Cake, which was my favorite of them all, the zappoles needed some kid of butter in the mixture...was a bit too bland for me...and the ricotta strawberry cheesecake. Chill ambiance, with four sections: lounge-style seating near the entrance, huge bar seating area with TVs, standard dining area, and special event area for large group reservations. We were pleased to find that house pastas were half off on Mondays. What a deal! That said, the restaurant is a little on the pricey side, so the half off pastas made the bill a little more bearable at the end of the meal. All our dishes were delicious; I ordered Godfather Ragu and it hit the spot nicely. Our server, Christian, was thoughtful, professional, and prompt without being overbearing. The GM Rodney was considerate, checked in on us several times, and helped the staff with dishes and bussing tables when available. The restaurant also honors a 10% off military discount.

I only described the experience. Ironically, my experience was not even about her, I think she just has such a guilty conscience, she assumed it was about her. So now we have a restaurant owner, who allows their waitstaff to deny service to people if you write a bad review??? Talk about the tail wagging the dog! Plenty of much better restaurants out there that offer good food, and waitstaff that actually does their job, which is waiting on customers. Hard pass for me.

It was a very good experience. What stood out to me was the excellent service by the professionally dressed servers, especially with the water, champagne and coffee refills. The dishes were all well-prepared, even if the buffet isn't huge. And actually, there was a chicken in cream sauce that was ultra ultra delish. But I understand that Fratelli's rotates dishes in their buffet, so the chicken dish may or may not be in future buffets. The buffet included your typical waffle station. It also included a dessert table, which was cake and pie. Yeah, we'd come back to Fratelli's buffet again.

The food at Fratelli was excellent, best Italian I've had in northern VA except for Scafa's in Spotsylvania County, which is far from the true northern VA. I got some noodle, mushroom, some meat dish, which was excellent. Service was good too. I'd come back here if I was ever along the Van Dorn corridor, but the odds are low of ever being around here these days. In fact, I used to live over here walking distance to here but never ate here when I did, and I've never shown my girlfriend of 1 year 9 months that apartment as we just are never over here and live a bit closer to Baltimore than DC now. Ironically, we were in Alexandria just yesterday (Old Town) for a birthday party, but Alexandria in general is quite rare.

Our meals were good mine was the fried shrimp and my husband's was pasta and sausage - he commented that he would have like a little less sauce and more pasta ( being Italian he likes pasta and I noticed that there was only a bit on the plate) I had told the server that we were celebrating our anniversary- after dinner she came out with a tray of desserts and said we would like you to have a dessert to celebrate your anniversary. So we picked on to share and asked for a cup of coffee. We mentioned that was a nice gesture for the restaurant. We discovered later that it was not a gesture at all. The dessert was added to our bill. All and all it was a nice evening out. We will go again in about a year or two to look at their new menu and wine list. I am hoping for an improvement. If not. Ordering was a breeze via their kiosk or speaking directly with a human, and the staff were great.
