This place should be way busier than it is! Always able to walk in and have a spot. Great for large parties and be able to have a conversation with your entire group. Such amazing food at a reasonable price and portions are shareable. Easily a great date night spot for under $100. 10/10 would recommend! :)

Got a last minute reservation on a Saturday night. I looked at past reviews - there were some low reviews from 10 years ago that are no longer valid. We sampled a lot of different things on the menu and all were really good! I wish we had more people with us to try and sample more things, but I guess we will have to come back again. Shrimp toast, turnip cake, Humba, beef and couscous were all outstanding. And get this - when I was looking to choose a wine, Jason actually recommended the lowest price option (which was perfect). We finished with the Nutella cheesecake which was solid. Great place and we will be back.

So - I've been a student at the Semester at Braise, which is a 10-week-long culinary program. It has been FANTASTIC and I've learned so much, but I had never eaten at the restaurant! My hubby has been nice enough drive me in to Milwaukee for a couple of the class nights. We went early enough last week to eat dinner at Braise and WOW! We sat at the bar (fantastic bartender and a new to Braise bartender who already knew the menu!) and ordered a few items to share. The Steamed Pork Buns were SOOOOO GOOOD! It is no wonder that they are the ONLY item that is a fixture on the seasonally changing menu. I will ALWAYS order these when eating at Braise. We also tried the Coconut Curry Soup and the BLT Crumpet. They were both so delicious and stand-outs on their own. AND - - - everything at Braise is made in-house! The buns for the Pork Buns and even the crumpets! The Secret Handshake menu is fun and only available at the bar and is constantly changing. We tried the mystery beer to accompany our dinner. Chef Dave and his crew work hard to serve up farm-to-table goodness in a cozy, relaxed space!

    - Did the Bouillabaisse Class - it was excellent and ever so much fun. This was my second class, the first being the Shrimp Malabar (also excellent), and I can't wait to try the Tikka Masala or so many of the others! Truly an intimate and hands-on experience, that I haven't found in other cooking class venues.

I went to Braise for the first time last night. It was a Friday at 6PM- we had a reservation and were seated right away. My first impressions: I love the historic building the restaurant is in. I didn't see a parking lot but there was plenty of street parking. When I first walked in, I noticed the beautiful bar and warm atmosphere. The hostess was friendly. We sat upstairs and I just remember the lights seeming really bright. Our waitress was very friendly and soft spoken. She was knowledgeable about the menu. Our food was great. We shared a couple of appetizers and main entrees, along with the chocolate dome for dessert. The steamed pork buns were a hit with our table! My friend ordered the Biryani Chicken, which came with A LOT of rice. I ordered the Roasted Pork Loin. I thought it was good, I liked the creamy celery root puree it was served with. Regarding their menu, I love the farm to table concept and was pleased to hear they do their shopping locally. Their menu changes with the foods they get in daily. My only complaint is the available root vegetables in most of the dishes were potatoes. I was hoping for more of a variety. I'm looking forward to coming again in the spring/summer to see what options they have on the menu and to attend one of their cooking classes!

Braise is a very nice rustic farm to table from scratch place. Pretty small menu. We started with the charcuterie board and it was pretty tasty although I could have done without the chicken liver. Everything else on the board was delish. I had the Cod Curry as the main and it was quite nice. Tasty but not overpowering. The lady had the pork croquettes - I had one and it was delish. Really tasty. I had a mixed drink and it was tasty. Service was pretty helpful in explaining menu items. Would return.

My wife's little brother got married and rented out the entire upstairs area for the small(ish) reception. It is absolutely a gem! There were probably about 30 of us that tested the capabilities of two bartenders and a handful of waitstaff. They served so very professionally that it stood out amongst many recent experiences as exceptional. There is a rooftop garden area as a total bonus. The food was served family style, and was delicious! Great spot, highly recommend it!

This was a really nice dining experience in Milwaukee. My wife and I sat at a communal table (the wood top from a bowling alley) and it was still an intimate dinner but with lots of good energy from other diners. The food was really great. The pork dumplings are a must have. The Arancini were delicious. The beet salad was OK but I wouldn't order it again. It was mostly just greens with barely any of the tasty beers and feta that was the reason I ordered it. Entree was a pork shoulder over polenta. Rich but delicious! Everything ate lighter than I expected (a good thing as I was afraid it would be too heavy and rich) The service was impeccable. Out waiter gave a brilliant suggestion for a wine that was on point with the food

Our first experience with Braise was a takeout order during the pandemic, and We finally dined at the restaurant for the first time this week. We were a bit surprised that the restaurant was filled up quickly that evening even though it was in the middle of the week. There was only one server for the customers upstairs, but she seemed very professional and able to attend to the needs of every table quickly. Both of her two recommendations turned out to be very good. We ordered 4 appetizers plus a main dish to share, and the total quantity of food was significantly more than we could finish, with leftovers (two steamed dumplings and half of the main course) almost enough for another meal. The dishes that we liked most were the Steamed Pork Buns and the Almond Crusted Trout. The toasted pork cubes with scallion vinaigrette in the Pork Buns was very tasty. Almost every restaurant in the city has a dish with trout, but the Almond Crusted Trout at Braise stands out for its tasty and unusual flavor combinations. The prices of the dishes were also reasonable. So, we consider Braise to have a high quality-to-price ratio.

Cute small restaurant tucked in Bayview. The menu changes seasonally, but a few stoke items such as pork buns usually stay in the menu. It's fun to order several small plates and share. We shared 4 small plates among the 3 of us: Smoked chicken mole arepa, beef salad, pork buns, and mushroom tortellini. We were feeling quite full after the small dishes, so we decided to finish off with 2 desserts instead. We are happy with most the dishes. My favorite might be the pork buns. The prices for the small plates are also very reasonable. We sat and chatted for hours after the meal, the waiters came over to fill out our cups several times. It's a great place to enjoy a nice meal and spend some quality time with friends!

Braise is flannel wrapped in silk . I thought it was a fancy joint, cooking school and all, with pretensions to be more than it is. Wrong! Braise is down to earth, relaxed, Cream City true, and perfect for a weekday boozer with food. The difference? Braise's food is great, not good, I mean Chicago/NYC great. Their kitchen produced the best dishes I have had in Milwaukee since our return in May, and the prices are reasonable, bordering on inexpensive. Their P.R. Is too professional. Braise has more in common with Camino than Morel. Kyle and Alex, two Milwaukee dudes took care of us at the bar, which is large and accessible. Wine, beer and booze are integral to the Braise concept. Kyle served me two Mezcals, but I fell in love with one of them and the other bottle felt rejected. Sorry. Kyle knows his beer, booze and wine. The other patrons were all "down home" Milwaukee people, and we discussed music and all sorts of shit. Laughs were loud and proud. The kitchen produces creative and flavorful dishes. Milwaukee's Sanford, one of the city's finest restaurants, was the incubator for one of the proprietors of Braise, and that culinary wizardry is evident. The steamed pork buns and the barbecue pork are not to be missed. I adored the pork, and I'm Jewish. The dish tasted so good, it was worth the risk. I'll atone on Yom Kipper. Yet, the trout and risotto were almost as scrumptious. Portions are humongous, and we brought more than half home to enjoy another day. The only misstep, if there is one, was the decor does not meet my European modern ideal. But hey, that's me, and I'm odd. Go and enjoy Braise. It's one of Milwaukee's best restaurants. I woke up with an oink, because the barbecue pork was that good. "Oink Oink!"

We came to Braise for our friends' wedding rehearsal dinner and were absolutely blown away by this place. The food was amazing (you cannot pass on the steamed pork buns)! Service was great as well. All the servers and bartenders were attentive and made the night go by seamless. We were also able to enjoy their rooftop patio which was such a cool space. We can't wait to return to Braise the next time we're in Milwaukee

Another hidden gem! Cute place on the edge of a neighborhood near shops and industry. Very friendly service, a bit pricey, but well worth it for creative and tasty gourmet food and cocktails. The house old fashioned's were excellent as were the other cocktails. Four of us ordered 2 entrees and numerous small plates to share, and deserts. Please the photos and descriptions. Did forget to photograph the Five spiced smoked chicken which was lightly smoked and delicious. Also had the bok choy salad. Highly recommend all we had. Great mix of flavors,

Fucking love this place…read more If there is a highly rated small plates place in a location we are visiting, you can count on us to find it. We walked literally thirty minutes to this place from our hotel. It was a lovely walk in early August. We had a 5:45pm reservation on a Thursday (we are old now) and we were seated immediately. Service was excellent. Ok so they have a fantastic cocktail menu. I appreciate any cocktail menu that is more complex than vodka and cranberry juice but this takes it to another level of creativity. I also like how they name them with numbers. It's so much easier to say "I'll have a 42" rather than "I will have a duperbeamerscicle". I started with an "88" with pisco, rose-poached strawberry, amontillado sherry, verjus, rose port, and pink peppercorn. Served in a highball glass and garnished with berries. Very refreshing. GF started with the "91" mezcal, passion fruit, poblano, pineapple, amaro, lime. Gorgeous and chic. Very strong, smoky flavor. When in Rome, so the cheese plate did not feel like an option. Four fantastic cheeses were served with very tasty candied nuts, some jam business, grapes, and some of the best bread I have had on a cheese plate. Thick, soft, and fluffy. Paired absolutely perfectly with cheese. Only complaint is that I wish there was more of it. I haven't had deviled eggs in a minute so I went wild and also had the chili crisp deviled eggs which were SPECTACULAR. I also got the Egyptian fried cauliflower which is served on a smear of harissa and lemon tahini. Very flavorful. Star of the show tbh was the tagliatelle with squash, tomato, these fried cheese crisps. The noodles were al dente and SO GOOD in such a wonderful sauce. GF also got the steak, she says "very good seasoning". I helped her out with the kimchi pancake. Wonderful. Such a great sauce. For our second round of dranks we both went with the "77" makrut lime vodka, tamarind, bird's eye chili, cilantro, lime, lemongrass. Very tamarind forward. Very unique. I can see why it's our server's favorite drink on the menu. The desserts looked really good (something with sticky rice I think it was a cocktail and a bread budding that looked fantastic) but we just weren't feeling it.

He took the time to explain dishes, offered thoughtful recommendations, and made the entire experience even more enjoyable. Every dish we ordered was outstanding. The deviled eggs were easily our favorite and are an absolute must-order. We also loved the flatbread with fiddleheads, which featured a delicious curry-inspired flavor that reminded us of an Indian dish. My husband couldn't stop talking about the bread pudding and said it was one of the best desserts he's had. Everything we tried was beautifully prepared and full of flavor. If we lived in Milwaukee, Odd Duck would absolutely become one of our regular spots. We can't wait to come back the next time we're in town.

We started with the pink Guava Paloma and the Schilling Local Legends for our drinks. The Pink Guava Paloma tasting amazing and was strong. You were really able to taste the tequila but it wasn't un-drinkable. The Guava was a great blend with the drink and my friend wished he had gotten the same drink because of how good it tasted. The menu was divided up into three different sections; Field, Sea, and Pasture. They also had specials, as well. We tried to get a few items from each section to try different dishes. In the Field section, we tried the Truffle Potato Skins (WI). The potatoes skins were PILED onto the plate. They were more soft than crunchy but tasted amazing. I wasn't really able to taste the truffle but it was still good. In the Sea section, we tried the Sambal Goreng Udang (Indonesia). An Indonesian dish with white shrimp, sambal chili paste, mash potatoes, and coconut milk. Honestly, this was my favorite dish. It was creamy and the mashed potatoes paired so well with the sauce and the shrimp. It had a hint of spice, which elevated the experience for me personally, as I love spicy food. In the Pasture section, we tried the Beef Empanadas (Columbia) and Vietnamese Pork Belly Crepes (Vietnam). The Beef Empanadas came with four pieces and some green sauce. The outside was crunchy and not over fried, the inside was perfectly filled and moist. Would highly recommend it as it was amazing. The Vietnamese Pork Belly Crepes were a little disappointing. I was expecting them to come out like the traditional Vietnamese crepes, crispy outside with the pork belly and other fillings on the inside. Instead it was like an actual crepe mix. It was soft and honestly okay. It wasn't our favorite. As for the specials they were offering, we tried the Pork Tenderloin. The Pork Tenderloin was pretty good, not super dry. It was served on top of potatoes and tasted amazing. La Merenda has a very cozy atmosphere. Low lights and overall just a chill and quaint spot. I will definitely come back for more of the Sambal Goreng Udang and to try out some of their other plates!

The waitress was very informative and let me sample a few - you have to try the unfiltered ones! They are a lot fruitier and smoother than you'd think. Our reservation was for 6:45, but we were sat to begin just after 7 (I think that's intentional to ensure everyone is present when they are actually ready to flip and begin service again). It's a well-oiled machine with how smoothly they flip each 10-person group through the evening. Oh and also, all the drinks come in snifter glasses. ???? Okay, so I'm not usually a fan of super specific, hipstery themes like this. But I decided to give Snifters a chance. And I'll admit, I liked what they had to offer. The signature dish seems to be the empanadas. These empanadas, however, are filled with unusual ingredients. We ended up getting The Manchester (basically mac and cheese stuffed in an empanada. Decent, but confusing to the senses), The Appalachia (pulled pork sandwich empanada. Solidly good), and The Cream City Standard (beans and potatoes. Easily my favorite, most similar to a traditional empanada). Overall, the empanadas were tasty, despite their oddness! We then moved on to an entree option. I went with Los Camarones, which were giant breaded shrimp served on top of cornbread. The shrimp was excellent. Very flavorful and delicious. The dish as a whole, I thought, lacked a sauce on top. It was a bit dry overall. My friend got the chicken and waffles, which was delightfully served with the maple syrup in a snifter glass. She was a big fan, so it must have been delicious. Overall, I'm surprised how much I enjoyed Snifters. I had hesitations, but the food was unique and flavorful. My big issue: the service was painfully slow. As in, I had to get up and find our server myself, which automatically knocks one star off in my books. The breadsticks were a highlight, so so good! The spinach dip was also unique and delicious - I did feel both were a bit over priced but overall good. The club banger was delicious, and the tavern crust was crispy. Likewise for the Forman. Pizza here was solid but about $30 per pie which is a bit pricey for a 14 inch, but ingredients were fresh and it was a bit more of an upscale vibe. The service was just ok - our waitress didn't really come around with refills and we had to flag her down a few times. Overall solid vibe and food though, we'd definitely come back to try a different pie.

They also offer extra crispy, which is a good option. I favor Curd Your Enthusiasm and Truffle Shuffle for sophisticated, yummy vegetarian options. BF likes several of the sausage pies. We just tried the Jojo potatoes and while they didn't do much for him, for me they were a nostalgic delight with superb dipping sauces. My pizza on the last delivery order was scorched and dry - consistency can be an issue. We also find the prices to be pretty high, but we are fans in general.

I…read morechose Goodkind because of the warm, eclectic atmosphere, cocktails, and creative & delicious food. Our experience did not disappoint! The cocktails were refreshing and well-balanced. My friend ordered My Darling Amadeus, which I wasn't sure I would like, and I ended up loving it! It was so good. Our waitress, Michelle, was very friendly and knowledgeable, and our food was outstanding! The duck was decadent and cooked perfectly. The Barramundi Fillet was amazing! I loved the crispy top, English peas, and Green Goddess Puree. If we had room, we would've ordered dessert, but we were so full! 10/10 experience!! Can't wait to go back.

The cocktails are so good that their menu has been awarded for being outstanding. The restaurant does get a bit crowded on the weekends so plan ahead. They do have a large bar to sit at. The service is excellent. The only thing I haven't found to be to my liking are their main dishes. The flavors aren't a hit for me but I can tell they are well thought out. I simply skip out on the main dishes and go straight for the fried oyster mushrooms as an app, and then pair those with a delicious cocktail. The have a wide variety of adult beverages available.
