To say Morel wasn't anything but amazing would be a truly 'spore-ious' accusation! (sorry for that ... I'm a groan man). Lucky to slip in Wednesday night to a quiet, warm, easy space that is humble yet confidant in what it is, happy to welcome you, and fixed on making sure your evening is wonderful. My meal was a real win: the tortellini appetizer in a light broth was wonderful (though perhaps the tortellini had gotten slightly dry in places waiting to be plated) and then how can walleye not hit the spot. I finished with the cheesecake which was so incredibly light it didn't seem like cheese cake (but I ate it so fast I didn't even get a picture). You'll be happy with Morel. Perhaps you'll even meet the host who greeted me ... he was a fungi.

Morel has been on my must try list for awhile and I'm so glad I was able to get there this trip. The pork shoulder was excellent, literally melted in your mouth it was so tender. The portion is also fairly large. Definitely try the spritz (the strawberry rhubarb makes it taste like summer in a glass)!

MOREL. Oh my GOD. Where have you been my whole life? I don't know what about it... the atmosphere, the service, the food, the cocktails. LAWWWD. This one is now on my top 5 in MKE. Settled right next to Shakers Cigar Bar. Morel serves new-american cuisine & unique cocktails in this chic, cozy spot. The service was pristine. They accommodated our toddler by letting her play in the courtyard and providing patience. They checked on us just the right amount of times, brought food in a timely manner, and provided knowledgeable menu recommendations. Their speciality cocktail was based around cranberries, gin, and sour beer. Delicious and beautiful. Our table decided to do a bunch of tapas and one entree to share for the table, I recommend this if you can. This allowed us to have such an array of flavors. Their small plate specials utilized a local cheese (Rush Creek Reserve) sold only around this time of year from Uphill Cheese, so obviously we had to get them. First, the cheese was utilized into the most tasty truffle fettuccini. That umami flavor came out in this dish so well. Second, the cheese was utilized on a charcuterie board with cranberry, honey, walnuts, apples, and grilled bread. The cheese was SO creamy and paired well with the other items. Next, the pork belly, which was phenomenal. I usually don't like pork belly, but this melted in my mouth. We also enjoyed the chanterelle mushroom fricassee. Very mushroom forward, which we loved. Also, the herbed flat bread with the burrata was light and surprisingly refreshing! Lastly, we tried the pork shoulder entree. The mustard pork jus tied this dish together and was mouth watering. Y'all know you got a good place when they utilize sauces to accelerate a dish to the next level. 1000000/10 y'all. Go.

Our selection of food/drinks: Appetizers - Lamb Carpaccio - Corn Soup Mains - Rainbow Trout - Smoked Venison Ragout Drinks - Blind Skeleton - Fresa Picante (Non-alcoholic cocktail) Verdict: Morel is absolutely fantastic! My wife picked out this location for our date night as she is big on going to places with farm-to-table type dining. We went on a Saturday evening and while we were still able to get bar seating as a walk-in, I would highly recommend making a reservation ahead of time to make sure you get a seat if you have a larger group than 2. The staff is very hospitable and welcoming. They seem very passionate about what they do and though have been there for awhile, seem as excited for us to try their dishes as we were excited to try them for the first time. While everything was excellent, if I had to pick, the standouts for me were the lamb carpaccio, smoked venison ragout, and fresa picante. The lamb carpaccio is just an incredible mix of different ingredients that all worked perfectly together in every bite. Looking at the description, I half expected it to be a bit salty but it was not like that at all. The dish was very well balanced. The smoked venison ragout struck me because it was a more unique experience in that I don't eat venison much nor have I had pappardelle pasta. Usually, I'm all about the meat but surprisingly with this dish, I felt like the amount of meat was adequate but I was left wanting more pasta! I'm not sure how to describe it but the freshness and deliciousness of the pasta just made me miss it more than the venison when we were done with the dish. While I enjoy the occasional alcoholic beverage, ever since I dined at Atelier in Chicago and had their incredible non-alcoholic drink pairing, I've been actively looking for unique or good tasting mocktail-like drinks. Morel's Fresa Picante matches exactly that for me. I loved the spicy kick aftertaste (disclaimer: I also love spicy foods) while still retaining the quality of being a refreshing drink. While I've had drinks that were similar in taste profile before, something about Morel's version is elevated by comparison (maybe something about the way they make their syrups?) Great experience all around! We will definitely be back next time we're in Milwaukee!

Morel is one of our favorite date night resturaunts in the Milwaukee area. The service is always amazing, the food is mouthwatering, and the drinks are refreshing. Last night we enjoyed dinner on the patio. I love that the menu differs slightly, based off of what is fresh and available to the chefs. If you go during the summer, you have to get the pork belly starter! We made the mistake of trying before getting a picture, and then we couldn't stop eating it. The cheese and meat board offers such a great variety of flavors and easily can be shared by 3-4 people. The Ragout is one of my absolute favorite dishes! The pheasant breast is a 10/10! We finished the night with a bottle of wine that our server recommended and the goat cheese cheesecake. We have never had a bad flavor of their cheesecake. Please go to Morel and enjoy one of the best meals you'll have in Milwaukee.

This might be my new favorite restaurant in Milwaukee! We went to celebrate our birthdays and everything about this restaurant was perfect. They have such a fun drink menu and so many fun cocktails and a great wine and beer selection. For apps, we ordered the herbed flatbread, lamb carpaccio and pork belly. Each was amazing and the herbed flatbread is a must order. The bread is made to order and the buratta with the topping was amazing. For entrees, we ordered the lamb ragout and pork shoulder. The pasta was so fresh and the pork shoulder was so tender and melted on your mouth. The menu changes slightly based on what's in season / what they're able to get fresh that day so I loved that it's constantly evolving. They have a great meat selection and everything we ordered was so fresh. Definitely make a reservation because it can get busy. Our waiter was so helpful and helped us celebrate the evening. Fun atmosphere inside and we'll definitely be back. Highly recommend if you're celebrating an occasion or looking for farm to table dining in Milwaukee!

Wow wow wow! A full farm to table restaurant with such fresh ingredients. Each dish was so well thought out with such unique combinations. It was so hard to decide what to eat when I wanted everything! The lamb carpaccio was a hit we got 2 for 4 people. All the cocktails we tried were delicious as well. The waiter knew a lot about the restaurant, menu, history of the location, and food. It was a great dinner experience ! Sitting outside in the summer is so nice but the inside was cool as well with a very open concept. I definitely want to come back!

This is such a quaint restaurant with a wonderful atmosphere. The plates were unique and the ingredients felt fresh and thoughtful. I can't wait to go back and try more of their dishes!

I love love love Morel! Everything we have ordered so far exceeded my expectations. Be ready for a warm, cozy and inviting atmosphere. The menu at Morel is changing seasonally and offering a wide range of delicious options! One of my favorite appetizers was the hot ham and biscuit with honey! So delicious! I've also tried the Rabbit Ragout, which has Pappardeile, Woodear Mushroom, Chili, Sarvecchio. Amazing! My husband loved the Pork Shoulder, Linguica, Corn, Poblano, Potato, Bacon, Salsa Verde, Cojita. Honestly, I don't think you could go wrong with anything on the menu! The service provided by the knowledgeable and friendly staff was outstanding, and provides a memorable dining experience. Morel is truly a hidden gem in Milwaukee, and I highly recommend it to anyone looking for an unforgettable dining experience.

Ambiance - great. Service - also great. We got the pork belly and chanterelle fricasse to start - delicious, but honestly a little salty! Lamb ragout was phenomenal. For dessert we got the goat cheese almond apricot cheesecake and peach cobbler with coffee - both were excellent! Value for what we got felt appropriate, too! Patio looks cute, would like to try sitting there sometime!

Everything about Morel exceeded our expectations! I have not stopped talking about this meal since we left. Our party of two was first escorted to the bar as we waited for our table to be ready. We each got one of the house cocktails which looked beautiful and had some interesting flavors. After we were escorted to our table, we ordered the lamb carpaccio and lobster mushroom fricassee as starters. The lamb just melted in our mouths and the thinly sliced croutons added some great texture. The fricassee in fact was not lobster just to clarify but wow wow wow! We were obnoxiously, loudly scraping the plate just so we could get every last bite. I would go back just for this. Although incredible as stand alone dishes, we agreed that it each dish would maybe be even better with a side of bread. For mains, we got the pork shoulder and pheasant breast. Unfortunately they ran out of pheasant and substituted with duck but it didn't even matter because it was exquisite. Everything on the dish melded so well together. The pork shoulder was extremely tender and juicy. Yum, yum, yum! We were so entranced by our dishes, we sat in almost complete silence while eating. For dessert, we got the chocolate terrine. It was a great ending to our fabulous meal. I haven't even mentioned how kind everyone was who worked there. From the bartenders, server, and host, everyone gave amazing recommendations and really made the night special. I cannot wait to come back to Milwaukee just to go back to Morel. 10/10

Can they handle a group of 10 to 12?

Yes, but will have to reach out via email after parties of 5 or more. Also there's a $25 deposit fee. It is sooooo worth it. Great food, drinks and service.

Our server, Adam, was quick and attentive. He was funny, suggested items for us to try, and was very tentative of our friend's food allergy. We started the night with a few drinks; #39 non-alcoholic Paloma, #129 non-alcoholic sbagiato, and #33 Sherry Pear-Y. All of which were absolutely amazing! Then we ordered the Chili Crisp Deviled Eggs (comes with two pieces), Crispy Thai-Style Oyster Mushrooms, Cappelletti, Slow-braised Bison Cheek, Cha Ca La Vong (Catfish), and the Wood-fired Bavette Steak. Where do I begin? First off, everything was fantastic! Delicious, creative, and memorable. Some dishes even had us ordering seconds! First the Chili Crisp Deviled Eggs: so creamy! We ended up ordering another plate of them (four orders) because one wasn't enough for the four of us. The Crispy Thai-Style Oyster Mushroom: insanely seasoned! It was crispy and the kick of the Thai chili peppers, made it our tables favorite (we ordered another plate of this)! The bits of crunch rice mixed in was also a pleasant surprise. The bits of green beans and cucumber was a nice way to cool the kick of the spices. The Slow-braised Bison Cheek: It was very interesting. Very soft and when paired with the polenta cake, mozzarella, and carrot, it tasted amazing. Cha Ca La Vong (Catfish): Also very interesting. It tastes very similar to a Vietnamese catfish soup! The pineapple fish sauce paired amazing with the glass noodles. The only complaint I have about this dish, was that the glass noodles weren't fully cooked, so they were a bit hard. The Wood-fired Bavette Steak: My god, this was amazing! It was perfectly cooked, the dark chocolate bordelaise paired with the mushrooms and steak was incredible. Like I said, everything was amazing! Our table was blown away with the creativity and quality of the food. The service was amazing, everyone was very sweet and helpful. The atmosphere was lovely and quirky. It was fun spotting all the duck decorations. Honestly, cannot rave enough about this place, I look forward to the next time I visit!

I surprisingly don't have many options in my "MKE - Fish Fry" collection that are near downtown, but Swinging Door Exchange was one of them. I was pressed for time, so I placed a to go order rather than dining in. I got the combo fish fry (two pieces of cod, two pieces of perch, and three fried shrimp) with potato pancakes. I was also very easily talked into the half rack rib appetizer. The ribs were good, even though I prefer sauce that's more sweet and smokey. Their sauce was on the tangy side with a tease of spice that really only became noticeable when the majority of the half rack was gone. If I were in the mood for ribs as my main meal, I'd consider getting theirs as an entree. The two potato pancakes weren't homemade; instead, they were premade hash brown patties that some other restaurants also serve with their fish frys. These were perfectly acceptable in lieu of homemade pancakes. The cod tasted great, but the breading didn't hold up very well. Either the fish itself was too wet or the two block walk back to my car allowed for condensation to wreck it or possibly both. The perch was not yellow lake perch but probably something like pike perch. Even though both kinds of fish and the shrimp were all good sized portions, $29 feels like a lot. I wouldn't say no to it, though, if I were dining in next time and avoid the extra cost of their takeout fee. Shout-out to the bartenders working that night. The bar area was absolutely packed, but both of the ones I talked to about placing my order were friendly and helpful even with being super busy.
