I brought my car in for an oil change it had 7400 miles on it . The "Corporate Director" Juan F. came out with my air filter and said it really needed to be replaced and he had to tell me because it couldn't wait till my next oil change. He showed it to me and it didn't look bad to me just had a little black streak on it. He said he made 3 phone calls to make sure they were the lowest price at $16 to replace the filter so I really didn't think it looked bad to me but I thought since it was only $16 I would just do it, he said if it were his family member he would tell them to do it. A little while later another employee came out and ask me if I lived in the country because there were chinaberries all in my air filter compartment. I said yes I do. He said he that there was a lot of them. I asked if he would remove them. He told me that he would have to take the cover off and it would be okay to leave them in there that it was no big deal and it was safe to drive like that he just wanted to tell me about it. He acted like it was too much trouble to do. So I thought great! Now I have to find someone to do it. When they were finished I left and went across the street to Target to buy groceries. After leaving Target I drove about 2 miles and my car started shaking then the dash lights came on then it died. I called Brake Check and about 20 min later Juan shows up, checks the oil then says its not their fault whatever is wrong. I asked about the Berries in the air filter, he had to call and ask how to get the cover off then when he opened it and pulled out the air filter I looked in and saw about 40 chinaberries at the bottom of the compartment. I said I bet that has something to do with whats wrong and he said he didn't see how that could have caused it. I had my car towed to the Dealer who said that one of the Chinaberries likely went thru the fuel injector and motor causing the problem. He also said it was way to early to need to change my air filter it wasn't due till 30,000 miles not 7400 like Juan said . So I was without and car for two days. Juan stills says they are not responsible. I say these people are here to rip you off and they don't know what they are doing Juan kept calling it my transmission. He called me the next day to say the dealer should fix it for free since it's a new car. And continued to say that they were not responsible even though I asked them to get them out and they said it was ok to drive like that. Beware of this place!!!!! read more

BEWARE IF THERE IS A PROBLEM , Store Director might be slow own it. Had a squeak coming from the brakes on my company vehicle so I took it into Brake Check in Cedar Park.Got there late in the day mid week. They pulled the front calipers and rear drums off the truck and wrote me a estimate. I told them to put it back together and I will drop it off on the weekend. Next day driving to San Antonio , half way there I hear some loud clanging in my front wheel, pulled over, crawled under the vehicle and saw the brake caliper just hanging off YES JUST HANGING ! The caliper bolts were gone! Phone the store and right of the bat Store Director "G.Mattews" started ducking. In order the ducking 1)He said we didn't do a brake service ( I explained you took the brakes apart in the shop to show me needed work) next ducking 2) If we left out the bolts out how did you make it that far?( I don't know you tell me they were not hanging when I brought the vehicle in and now they are hanging and banging around on the wheel) next ducking 3)Can you find a shop to fix it?(no buddy not a chance,and it is getting towed back to you) next ducking 4) I cant authorize paying the tow bill-. I am glad no one got hurt, and mistakes do happen,nobody's perfect. I don't think this happens often, and nothing but a few missing bolts was all it needed. In fact the guys in the shop first thing in the morning had it up and running,new bolts ready to go. Worst possible experience. Cost me over $400 to fix their mistake. I took my car here for a routine alignment after getting new tires and they did a horrible job. The tech looked like he had never done an alignment. First of all the steering was off center to the right when I bought it in and they completely flipped that steering to the left and when I asked what happened, the response was that they didn't do anything that could have changed the steering. Also they messed with the camber and toe of the vehicle making almost impossible to steer the vehicle. We needed some brake repair for our 2017 Toyota Camry. Took it in and they did the required work in a timely manner. A week after the service our brakes started squeaking ( which they did not do prior to the service). Took it back in and they redid the front brakes at no charge. 2 weeks later the squeak came back, brought it back in, this time the GM ordered at his expense top of the line brake pads to install. Gotta be one of the best auto shops I've ever been to. Team is clearly founded on the principles of honest and integrity. I went to have the brakes changed on my 08 Civic SI, when Garrett (The Director, what other director actually gets their hands dirty?!) took off the wheels he told me I had a gold standard pad, which is a lifetime warranty pad by checker auto. He had one of his shop guys drive me up to checker to get the replacement pads for free. He could have easily been dishonest! In terms of oil changes, never had a poor experience. These guys know what they are doing and take you along every step of the way. I've been invited to go into the shop and watch them perform the maintenance on my car.... After a not so positive experience with another shop, and needing a quick oil change/alignment check, Brake Check was convenient and fast. Love the every 4th free oil change, and the lifetime alignment is perfect for me, my truck, and the rough rural roads I drive occasionally in the field. After a 2 hour service quote at a shop nearby that had completely empty service bays, the guys here at Brake Check got me out in less than 30 minutes! My husband and I have been going to this Brake Check for almost a year now. There is always a quick turn around time for whatever is being done. Being a girl, I hate going to have work done on my car because I am always afraid of being taken advantage of...At Brake Check they don't work off of commission which is awesome because I've never had to deal with them coming up with a million things wrong that "have to be fixed right away." Extremely disappointing experience! Rear brakes needed to be replaced and was told it take one hr...three hours later I'm still sitting here! Avoid at all costs. I even had an appt! I was watching the technicians thru the window and it was if they were hanging out in there garage trying to kill time. I was one only brake job going on at the time...everyone else was getting oil changes. 5 different customers vehicles were in and out while I waited. I could've done the front and rear brakes myself in the time it took them to my rear brakes. Not once did anyone apologize for the delay or give me a reason. read more

UPDATE: After I posted the review, the corporate office called and asked me to come back. Went back and was met by Mike, who was again very unprofessional. I called the corporate office and told them I was uncomfortable leaving my car with Mike and they asked me to come again the next day to meet Brian, I believe the Director for the location. Brian was much easier to work with, professional and admitted and took responsibility for what had happened. They didn't have the right tools to diagnose the issue and so he took it to his friend's place in New Braunfels because they didn't want to pay for the hefty fees that the Mercedes Dealership would have charged. It was found that they had shorted one of the fuses of a sub-assembly. Brian got that replaced and had my car working again. I would have given them a higher rating but for the unprofessional behavior of Mike and the fact that it happened in the first place and it took almost a week to get the car fixed. But I do recommend working with Brian. He is a great guy who cares about the work that is done under his watch and how his customers are treated. ORIGINAL POST: Had gotten an oil change done a day ago and they recommended that I get my brake pads changed and since Mercedes recommends that the rotor and the brake hardware be also changed at the same time, I should get all of it done. I went to Brake Check thinking that they are a specialty shop and would be better to get the brakes work done. When I first went in I was told it would be a couple of hours and so I booked an appointment for the next morning. When I took in the car at my appointed time, I was told it would be 3-4 hours. I go back after 4.5 hours and I am told that it would be another 30 mins. So I go run some errands and got back at 6:02 pm - they supposedly close at 6 pm. And the guy told me I couldn't pick up my car now since they have locked and some other customer had parked his car outside the bay that my car was in and they didn't have the key to his car. Anyhow, I left and came back to pick my car the next day only to find that the bill was more than the estimate that was provided to me. Fine. I pay and go to leave. Start my car and all sort of service messages start scrolling up in the dashboard - air bags have malfunctioned, TPMS is not working, PRE-Check system not working, etc. etc. Call the guy and he says that since the car was lifted up this probably has happened and once I drive the car a few miles everything will reset and will be fine. I have never heard of that before. He tries to look up in the service manual but can't determine what caused it or how to fix it. Tells me again that I should cycle through 5-6 times - start the car and drive around the neighborhood - and after 5-6 times it should get fixed on it's own. I leave and even before I get to the end of the parking lot, find that all my systems are not working - rear camera is not working, music system in out, Navigation is off, power seats not working. So, I turn right back and go and tell him and he in turn says, "you must have pressed some button". I tell him that I hadn't pressed anything and it was the same as when he tried to fix it. So, he calls another guys and he says your battery died while in the shop. I just had a complete oil change done and they did an inspection too and all was well. But both of them claimed that the battery was bad. But there was no mention of anything when I came the day before or even when I came to collect my car and paid. There is no mention of that on the bill or any recommendations and suddenly I am told that my battery had died. And if the battery was dead then how come the car even started. I ask to talk to the manager and he says, I am the manager. I ask to talk to the owner and am told the owner is a corporation and are based in San Antonio and are closed and anyway will not talk to me. The guy, Mike, who claims to be the manager is rude and seems to me to not know his stuff. read more

I was preparing my vehicle for a cross country trip. Bret suggested an alignment when I only needed new brakes. After service was completed, we discussed the quality of the tires. He informed me we would be perfectly fine. Now upon return & a week of use, balled tires on the outer rim and one showing metal. So I return today & ask what exactly was done to my vehicle. So my husband accidentally put the coolant in the brake fluid on my sons jeep. He realized as soon as he did it, and called brake check. They were kind enough to fit us in quickly, and took care of the problem. They went above and beyond! Since it was a special fluid needed to clean it out, and it took a day to get it, they changed his brake pads as well. I can't say enough good things. I went in for a oil change they wanted to do other services and said just want the oil change and it went on and on saying brakes were low needed a new filter and i just got a oil change . Then 3 months later i went to my friends shop and he said they striped the bolt off since they used a air wrench which it uses to much force to get the bolt on causing it to wear down i will never go there again nor ill recommend them as well read more

This place will take full advantage of you anyway they can, it is all about finding ways to pad the bill. All I needed was to have my brakes checked because my brake light was on and the technician tried to charge me $800 for a problem that I was told would cause my brake system to completely stop working, trying to instill urgency and fear.(I have a 2011 car with less than 30,000 miles on it) I decided to hold off and speak with a trusted mechanic who confirmed they were just trying to rip me off and pad the bill by saying there was a leak that clearly did not exist. After having the brake fluid filled the brake light went off and weeks later all is working perfect with no leaking what so ever and I am completely disgusted by this place and would NEVER recommend it. read more

Garrett and team always take care of me. Been in cedar park for 2 years and this is the only place I bring our cars.

I came in hoping to get a soft brake pedal looked at. There must be some air in the brake lines, so bleeding the brakes was the answer. I get a free brake inspection and am told I need $600+ in brake repairs. Really? And all I really need is an air bubble removed from the brake lines? So, we get into the nitty gritty details, and lo and behold, I catch the guy in an outright lie. The front brake pads do not need to be replaced. He then tells me that I need to have all four calipers disassembled and have the piston seals and boots replaced. Hmmmm... Possible, but not likely. Given the possibility of a piston seal failure causing an accident, I checked into the cost of a new caliper. Comparing the per hour labor charge in the shop against a new caliper, it should take less labor time and therefore cost less than rebuilding the caliper. I was wrong again. It turns out that changing a caliper requires removal of the hydraulic (banjo) fitting from the old one and installing it on the new. Which takes five minutes or less. For which these guys charge $45..... Getting into a little advanced math, that totals up to a shop labor charge of $540 per hour.... Is there an honest car repair shop in Cedar Park? Rock read more

Went here without looking at these reviews prior. I was pleasantly surprised at the service received. I have 94k miles on my car. I'm the original owner. I brought the car in to check the brakes, not because they showed any symptoms, made noise, etc. I went simply because I don't expect the factory brakes to last this long. This was a Monday afternoon. Hey took my car in right away-even with no prior appointment. I was fully expecting to get both front and back brakes done. When they showed me the pads (drums in back) they made it clear that I didn't need a brake job. Pads have some time left, so do the rear shoes. Being surprised that I'm not needing a brake job, I tell the main guy (I presume him to be the manager) "if you can, let me give you a few bucks to rotate the tires". They were already off, so it's really no effort on their part at this point to simply put the tires from the front onto the back. I figured again they'd charge something. He then tells me "we do that for free". Wow. A shop that says I don't need work done. AND they rotated my tires. So end result, I leave after about 45 min spending not a dime, having my tires rotated, no money spent, and peace of mind about my brakes. Very satisfied. Based on my experience I'm very surprised to read what I've seen here. I hope those other reviews are exceptions and not the rule. I will definitely go back. read more

There are a couple of bad reviews on here, but note the dates. The new management is absolutely outstanding and really turned this place around! Their new GM Garrett is a retired First Sergeant from the U.S. Army and is doing an outstanding job leading his team. This is easily the best location I've ever been to for any auto maintenance and I've been to many. If you had a bad experience early on, I highly encourage you to give them another try. RUN, don't walk away from this business. Anyone that drains your transmission fluid and still adds 7 more quarts of oil to your $40k Toyota Tundra has no business in that area until they are properly trained. The fact that I spent hours of my life fighting with them to make it right was icing on the cake. Toyota said it needed a new transmission and that the seals in the motor had been compromised significantly, but even then they only offered to do a "correct" oil change and top off the transmission fluid after driving to Dallas with it bone dry. We will be seeing them in court this fall. Do your research if your family's safety means anything. These people have already been sued for wrongful death. read more

They went over the cost of everything before doing any of the work, so there were no surprises. I waited in the lobby and they were done around the estimated time frame. I was very pleased and impressed with Tad Whited's commitment to customer satisfaction. I was initially unhappy with the results of my Suburban wheel alignment (steering wheel crooked and no printout of the before/after alignment specs), but Tad apologized (even though he was the Office Manager and had not done the alignment) and assured me if I could bring the car back at my convenience he would personally ensure the alignment was redone to my satisfaction at no cost. I dropped the car off the next afternoon and when I picked it up everything was perfect. Tad had personally realigned the wheels (twice to get it perfect), the steering wheel was straight, and the alignment results printout was in the car. read more

These guys are just great! The first time I visited this location I went in for my brakes of course. They did a fantastic and quick job. By no means am I the best driver so when they offered the lifetime warranty on the brake pads/rotors I couldn't resist. Garrett, now the district manager I believe, is sooo polite and explains everything in detail. He even let me sit next to my car while they were working on it. The next visit I was in a sticky situation. My transmission was going out and I had to drive 1000 miles in just 3 days time. I refused to go anywhere else and called Garrett right away. He met me at the door and proceeded to take my car for a test drive to assess the damages. Long story short- I made a successful trip there and back because of Garrett and his team!! I had my car towed here late one Friday afternoon when it left me stranded (with my kids in the car) when a sensor died and the dealership was already closed. Brake check in Cedar Park replaced it with after-market/uncertified parts that only lasted 30 days and left me stranded again a month later. I will not go back here again. Took my car in to get an estimate for new brake system at multiple locations. My last stop was Brake Check. They came in at half the price of the other locations mainly due to their honesty. Other locations quoted me for new pads, rotors, and shoes. Bryan and Juan brought me into the garage and let me know that they could machine my current rotors instead of me having to purchase new ones. Everyone Needs to Get a Brake Check Upon entering Brake Check we were courteously met by Gerry. Gerry asked how he could help us and from that point forward we received the best advice and auto care that we have ever experienced. Our Story's History: We had multiple car problems and had received diagnostic checks and estimates from previous interactions with another auto repair shop. We "saved" our money in anticipation to get the work completely done and on the day we went to get the work done at that repair shop, they were not able to accommodate us until two or three days later. Side-note: All of us Texas husbands know that our wives' and kids don't like "roasting" in the car while driving in this beautiful Austin, Texas Summer heat! Now I'm "really" sweating even more because I need this car fixed fast! So we went to a second auto repair shop to get the work completed and the prices were outside of our desires. On the way home my wife said "let's try the Brake Check?" I was in an agreeable mood so we found this location to be the closest Brake Check to us and we gave them a chance. As I said earlier, upon entering Gerry courteously began helping us by listening to our situation and he went and got "Garrett" from the garage to review our diagnostic check and estimate. Garrett utilized one of the best "management practices" that I believe all of his competitors could learn from, he was honest!!! He reviewed the diagnostic reports, took our vehicle for a test drive and he came back with a plan that was interestingly more different than we anticipated. In short, Garrett eliminated what he felt were unnecessary repairs and he told us why they were not required, by the way, Garrett is a "Master Technician" in automotive repairs and services. I guess he's a professional that can make a suggestion or two if he wanted to about car stuff or drive "thing-o-mobiles?" Garrett said that he might be able to get it done that day but definitely the next day. This was acceptable because we had spent a good part of our day just trying to find an auto repair shop that could help us. So we left our family's car in Garrett's care. Roughly four hours later, Garrett called me back and I knew this was too soon because we really hadn't been gone that long. Garrett indicated to me that our vehicle was repaired, completed and ready for pick-up. This didn't sound right to me, how could this be? We drove back up to Garrett's store and our SUV was ready and free of the problems we arrived with. So Garrett was able to save us $300 dollars or 28% of the funds that we were prepared to spend. It took us several weeks to save the anticipated amount as quoted by Garrett's competition. During that time we didn't go out or entertain the family because we needed to save for the repairs. I'm happy that we had to wait and save the money because we were blessed to meet Gerry and Garrett. Garrett/(Brake Check) blessed us through his professionalism, help and honesty. Brought my truck in for an oil change and these techs goof around 75% of the time they have your car up in the air. Asked for a rotation and that took over an hour. after needing my car alignment done we called around and found break check was the cheapest place around it was 5:00pm when we called and they closed at 6:00pm and the manger David said we could go a head and come in and instead of waiting till the next business day when they opened . they rushed my alignment too where the car was worse then when we brought it too them. I called back and wanted a refuned from them and they wouldn't do it too where we had to call above them and get a refund. they didn't like that we called above them and started getting angry At us and saying we were the one whose messed the alignment up after they did it. do not go there they will mess you car up and not take fact that they did it . and it takes 4 to 6 weeks to get the refund though mail from them.
