I have a classic car (1983 Mercedes 380SL) which had the original shock absorbers. The local Mercedes dealer wanted $1600 to replace. I contacted Brake Check and they quoted me $520. During the whole process, they treated my car with respect and ensured nothing was damaged or marked. Brake Check does far more than just brakes, they will repair just about anything external to the engine. Big Surprise! My rear brakes were making a horrible noise and I started calling mechanics nearby and getting quotes and as I just moved here from California I was very lost and used the "NEAR" Yelp search and ended up calling Brake Check. When I asked for a quote I got the cliche-ish "we can't tell you until we see it", response. However, they did offer a free inspection. After calling about 5 other places I thought I'd give Brake Check a chance due to proximity to the house and a bus line. GUESS WHAT? The manager was super cool, didn't blow smoke up my @$$ and he and the rest of the staff exceeded my expectations that I was totally compelled to write them a review. PROS: * asked me to stick around and look at the brakes (and did it in about 15 min.s!) * after eye-balling my front brakes the manager actually said, "yeah, those look fine, we won't even bother with those" (I had just had them changed 2 months ago). * when I asked for less expensive options I didn't get sales talk as a rebuttal and generally had a "give the customer what he wants" experience every step of the way. CONS * the free coffee was 8 hours old (BUT it was free and they were honest about it!) I've changed my own brakes plenty of times and know when I'm getting jerked around... so, I really hate it when I run into jerky mechanics. These guys were great! I was at this location in June and July of this year, and believe their pricing for needed work is very high, and that they recommend some needless work and parts also. In June I believe I heard them charge another customer $150 for spark plugs and spark plug wires. A fast search in the internet showed price for plugs and wires as $35 to $50, and I feel those prices must be for the absolute best plugs and wires. Labor time should be about 15 minutes. Therefore Brake Check's price is just nutty. I had been there in June for an alignment check, since I had bought a lifetime alignment warranty several years ago. Shortly after the June visit my brakes started making noise, so I went back in July, when brake Check correctly said that the front brake pads needed replacing. When I was there last Saturday, the manager took my car for a test drive, came back and said it was pulling to the right. I knew from driving down the freeway, that there was no pull to the right. It's true that front pads and rotors needed replacement, but they wanted to replace other parts that just do not have any wear factor. They recommended a lot of other work too. I went to my normal repair shop, where the owner said I only needed front pads and rotors, and that the recommendation for all the other work and parts was baloney. read more

This location, Southwest Frwy and Chimney Rock area, does honest work. They even brought the parts to me that I needed to repair and showed me the difference of the worn out to the brand new. Their attitudes are neutral and they are respectful over the phone, however, they need to get into good habit of wiping any remaining grease and grime when they've completed their tasks. I had to return about 3 times because grease and grime were on my car and I was unable to get it off myself. Other than that, I have no problem. If that continues, I'll more than likely go to another location. Hand me back my car in the same EXACT condition that I first handed the car to you. read more

I had my front brake pads replaced the day before a road trip. I like how BrakedCheck will take off all 4 tires and show you what needs to be done. Their printed alignment analysis showed me the car needed an alignment vs their telling me and trying to sell me an alignment. NTB on Richmond and 610 said I needed an alignment 2 weeks prior and I said yes and apparently they lied and did not perform an alignment and I had BrakeCheck do it and feel like my car was properly worked on. I called NTB and got my money back - $89. Since I might trade in my car Brakecheck agreed to not perform certain things that were not required but rather "good to do". If I keep the car I will go back and have those things done at this location. Herbert is the store Director. I am female and felt I was dealt with professionally and honestly and the mechanics were very informative and detailed and answered my questions thoroughly after they performed the test drive of my vehicle before I left their shop. Brought my car in on yesterday because of a grinding noise in my brakes & having been frustrated with another repair company for not fixing the initial problem correctly, I brought it to Brake Check on the SW Fwy @ Chimney Rock. Upon parking, I was greeted at my car with a smile and nice welcome. They diagnosed my car, visually let me see what the problem was with my calipers and fixed the problem. I also got an oil change which they happily accepted another competitor's coupon for a discount and recommended I get a motor mount (and again, showed me why I needed the work and what was happening with my engine). I am very, very pleased and wish I would have brought it over here initially for the brake work but I know now and will bring my car to this Brake Check for future repairs/oil change, etc., I've already made an appt to fix my motor mount! Last two days I went through lots of trouble for my car brake system. And as a female driver I really thought some auto shops they really tried to treat me on the cost. But as a picky customer I am glad that I did my best to avoid ridiculous cost from other shops and finally found Brake Check and glad to meet with GM Micheal. Here is my story. My car's brake suddenly can't work well. And I almost had a car accident. I quickly found a auto shop in a gas station which looks pretty good. They cost me $90.0 for checking. I paid. And I waited for 2 hours just for checking. Finally they told me I need to change front wheel pads, rotors and calipers. Total: $790.0. I felt sth wrong on the cost but I didn't say anything just left that shop. I tried to find another one which is close to my company. But terrible thing happened the brake can't work at all after I took my car from the 1st shop. This shocked me bad. Lucky thing is I drove very slow so I hit a shoulder and stop my car. Now the second auto shop is in front me. I had no choice but went there. $600.0 for changing front stuff. $300 to change shoes of my rear wheels ( $200 finally), $130 labor fee. I let them changed my front brakes but didn't go back again for the rear wheels. Because my husband told me pads and shoes they are not such expensive stuff. The second day I called Brake Check for quotation on changing shoes. And MG Micheal answered my phone call with professional attitude which made me feel much better than the first two auto shops. He gave me quotation on shoes which is reasonable price and $32 labor fee. What else I need? For sure I went to his shop around 5:00pm. His mechanics took care of my car immediately. They gave me free checking and let me know what's going on about my car. And also show me how they can fix my car. Even machining details and parts. The tech was fixing my car from 5:30pm to 7:40pm without any rest. And GM Micheal checked the process for me every 10mins and let me know what's going on. At that time his working hour was already over a lot. I felt sorry about it. I should take my car early. But he told me " There is no anything more important than your safety. We will finish your car today." We really had a good time together, chatting good value, talking family love. And I am so glad to know his family though photos. And I really want to say sorry to his wife who prepared whole day for his dinner. And appreciate her understanding. Now I feel so safe that drive my car go to work and gym. And Micheal also gave me the list and told me all the parts they changed they are all life warranty. I like all from this auto shop and I will for sure continue to go there for my car service and also my husband's. Personal experience. We got a bad flat on the freeway and pulled off and found this place. Being a car full of girls none of us knew how to change a tire! We decided to go ask them if one of them could help us change it. They were super nice and helpful! They pulled out car in and changed the tire in 3 minutes. And then they did it free of charge also. It was super nice of them! Made an account just to rate this store location. Let me start off by saying I was VERY lucky to make it to this location in the first place. (I will explain further down) When I arrived at around 1:30PM I was greeted by Carl, the current Store Director. He told me that he would assess my vehicle in about 20 minutes, upon arrival. Those 20 minutes really were about 40, until they finally took a look at my truck. Before the full diagnosis, however, they told me that they needed the lug nut key for my aftermarket wheels, which was at my home, 30 minutes away. (Fast forward an hour and a half later after I retrieved the lug nut key) Carl was very detailed in his explination and told me I was lucky that I got to the store, because he didn't want to strike fear in me, but told me my front left wheel could've fallen off with any next strong jolt. He is VERY sincere in his explinations, and told me what I needed to do to my truck right that moment, and what could wait a little longer. When reviewing the cost, we were able to reduce it by half after taking out things that I could do myself, and he didn't try to lure me into haveing them do the service, and I really appreciate that. They worked on my truck for about 2 hours and left with a much smoother ride. The experience was great and Carl and the team were very professional. read more

NEVER GO HERE IF YOU VALUE YOUR TIME!!! I had an appointment at 1:30 to have my brakes checked and I did not get out of there until 6:50 - I wasted 5 1/2 hours at this place. They never bothered to tell me that they were running behind and that a machine was broken. If I had known that I would've rescheduled or I would have gone elsewhere - like Pep Boys. When I asked how much longer it would be, I was told my car would DEFINITELY be ready by 5:30, no later - BIG LIE!!! I was another 1 1/2 hours. Michael said he would give me a $50 discount for my troubles. When I looked at the bill, I asked if that included the 20% labor costs for booking online? He said he didn't know what I was talking about. ANOTHER LIE. There are posters on the wall that state this, it is on their website and I heard him tell someone on the phone about the discount. So, he wasn't giving me $50 off, he was giving me the discount I should have gotten in the first place. I told him I wanted to speak to his manager. I spoke on the phone with Shawn who offered me a free oil change and I told him I was NEVER coming back and my time was worth more than an oil change. He took $100 off my bill and everyone acted like that was so generous. That night I left a message with the corporate office - Surprise, Surprise, no one bothered to call me back. I called again the next day and spoke with the executive asst to John and David Peveto and she told me she was busy and what did I want? I told her I needed to speak with someone in charge, she said everyone was busy, she would have to see who should call me and someone would be in touch. SURPRISE, SURPRISE, no one called me back. I called again the next day to the Houston office and spoke to Irene. She was so incredibly rude to me and told me that I already got $100 off and 20% off (which I was supposed to get off anyway) and wanted to know what I expected her to do. I told her I wanted someone to call me to discuss the horrible customer service and the fact that I was lied too and no one seemed to care that I was there for 5 1/2 hours. She said someone would call me back......I'm still waiting. I will NEVER go back here. David and John should be ashamed - this is a family business???? They pride themselves on customer service?????
