Took my wife's van here to have the brakes done. The second day after I took the van in the brakes were making noise. I thought it might be normal and gave it a couple weeks and it got a lot worse. I took it to my regular mechanic and it turns out the hardware for the driver's side caliper was missing and never installed. The play in the pad caused the hardware on the other side to break. I also thought 2 1/2 hours for brakes was a bit long considering there was only one other Customer there. I cut my losses and didn't bother taking the van back here based on some of the other reviews I read and the fact that they really should know how to put brakes on a car. That level of incompetence is just unacceptable to me especially at a place called "Brake Check". To be fair, it might have been a one off, but my time is limited and valuable to me and the safety of my family paramount, so I'm not taking any chances and I won't be back. Customer Service was nice and friendly enough. They did walk me back and show me what was wrong, thoroughly explained everything, and gave me my options. They were a bit pushy on also doing the rear brakes and the alignment both of which were fine (the car is only 2 years old), but I understand they have to upsell. It's not about the Customer Service though, it's about the work that they did and they failed in that regard. I'll stick with my regular mechanic. read more

My wife took her car in for a set of Brakes. The salesman was really on top of his game by telling her that he will throw in a Tire Rotation, for Free. I hope that wasn't a hardship for him since he had all four tires off at once anyway. The actual service was quick and seemingly efficient. The next day we are driving together and we hear a strange a clicking noise. I walked next to the car and determined that it was coming from the back left Hub Cap area. My wife took her car in and was helped by the Manager. He determined that one of the lug nuts came off and was rolling around between the Hub and the Hub cap. My wife expressed her concern over possibly loosing her tire. The manager told her that she could drive with Three Lug Nuts missing. I heard he had a real Stupid Look on his face when she said that the Manufacturer installs FIVE Lugs for a reason. If you want to be treated with pure disrespect and not really know what you may get in the way of service, by all means, visit this store. read more

I would give 0 stars if possible! I've been having this squealing brakes issue with my truck for a while. 1st took it to Brake Check (Round Rock, TX) in Round Rock. They looked at front brakes and said they could find nothing wrong and so their "free diagnostic"(I was told FREE over the phone while making appt) turned to a $90 fee. I was forced to pay for replacing a set perfectly good pads and resurfacing rotors($130), which they said would make squeal go away! Didn't go away. Took it back and they resurface rotors again. No dice. A third time and this time they said it was rotors(probably cause rotors can't be resurfaced again!) or maybe pistons(something new to blame on). Took it to The Austin DIY Shop (www.diyatx.com) and greased the back of the pads and calliper pins (which I asked Brake Check to do several times and they refused cause of some company policy!) and put everything back on(and checked on some other stuff with my truck too). Bye Bye squealing! I wish I had gone to DIY shop first. Best $50 I spent renting 2 hrs of bay space. Oh btw, the grease was free at DIY Austin! read more

Never go there! They 'fixed" my brakes and within a year they broke again. I went back because they gave a life time warranty. They charged 120 for sand down my pads - off course, the warranty did not work for the brake I needed service on - and the day after my brakes were WORSE. I stopped by and told the manager - can you drive my car and tell me if you agree that my brakes are worse now? He made a lame excuse and quoted me for another 300 dollars. NEVER go there! read more

Sunday afternoon and we're a caravan of three vehicles when I smell something burning and see smoke from the lead truck, which is hauling the trailer of belongings. We all pulled over and determined it was the breaks. I quick look on Yelp turned up the closest brake place was a mile and a half away. We spoke to the guys there to confirm the location and slowly pulled in. They have been so helpful. Helped unhook the trailer, gave us a cool place to rest (including the dog), and fixed the brakes in about an hour. Tyler and Travis took excellent care of us. After my ordeal with the Round Rock and 183 Austin shops, I took my truck to their N Lamar location. This time they fixed the problem, but it only lasted until mid-December. Having to have breaks redone at dealership with genuine parts. The aftermarket parts are making noise and have scraped the roters so they will need to be resurfaced again. What a di$$apointment. Great experience from online appointment booking to prompt friendly service. Frank fully explained my problem and gave a full estimate of charges before the work was started. I was really impressed with the level of service here!! I went into Break Check knowing exactly what work I needed done, the manager greeted us promptly and discussed a few deals with us. After a few minutes, he suggested a free break check before running numbers. They took me to the back and pointed out what was needed and not and didn't try to up sell me simply because I'm a female (yes I've had that happen) and even threw in an additional discount. I made an appointment to have my brakes checked, took my car in at 11:30am, around 5pm I hadn't heard from them so I called to check on my car, they told me it would not be worked on that day but would be ready on Sunday, 24 hours later they hadn't even looked at my car. I called again, told them not to touch my car and drove over to get it. When I arrived my car was in the air, they were hurriedly trying to get to work. I spoke to their manager about this, he tried to explain mechanics aren't skilled communicators and unless you speak to a manager there they don't really know what they're doing. Appalling! BEWARE!!!!! I needed an oil change. I went in and they asked if I had been there before. I said yes so they took my keys and said they could get to it right away and they drove the truck into the bay. I waited over an hour and when they give me my bill it was for 95.00. I asked how that could be and they indicated my previous oil change had been with synthetic oil. I indicated that was because they were offering it at half off during my last visit. They assumed I wanted the up charge without asking it that was ok. They were not even apologetic for not clarifying what I wanted prior to taking my keys. My wife had the same experience the last time she went in. I would HIGHLY suggest you get an estimate before having any work done, even if just for a simple oil change, so there are no misunderstanding when it comes time to pay your bill. I had a great experience with Brake Check in Round Rock today. I was greeted by a nice young man who gave me the upmost respect and helped me every step of the way while I was there. Once he assessed the car he came back and explained everything to me and broke down the charges line by line. After agreeing to the reasonable price that was quoted for the work being done, he had a techinician start the work and it was done in a short time. John the director is an honest hard working man that won't make a buck that doesn't save you one and only tells it like it is. I went in for brake inspection and told me they were fine and didn't need any service. But my alignment was off quite a bit and would end up costing me new tires, so fixed it, 20% off and lifetime $3 alignments here on out, also gave me coupon for 4th free oil change, conventional or synthettic, the ladder meaning big bucks savings !! I took my car here a few months ago to get brakes replaced for new due to old ones worn down. #1 the service took 1.5hrs longer than they told me so I was waiting for over 3 hrs for a scheduled appointment. #2 I have a sports car, I left briefly and when I returned I heard and saw the mechanics in my car in the parking lot revving up the engine for the load exhaust over and over for around 4-5 minutes straight. #3 it was told to me by your staff that the breaks would be the exact same as what comes on the car from the manufacturer and I don't see how this is possible as they don't break nearly as good and have a constant high pitched squeal since getting them a few months ago! Figured I would give them a few weeks to wear in, but no...still the very loud squeal. Will never get service at a brake check ever again, especially this one! read more

First time I've ever been to any type of brake shop. My brakes have been Hissing for a couple weeks now. I went to brake check and it was a pleasant experience. E.J. asked me to explain what I heard and what the issue was. He then did a free visual inspection and walked me through what he saw and what that meant. He then gave me options and costs possibilities. I didn't feel pressured at all and he wasn't pushy at all. I didn't feel like be was trying to rip me off which is something I'm always worried about in auto stores. The only downside was that they were super busy. I was told that it would take and hour and a half...I spent 3 hours there. But I'm patient and they had coffee and tv. But they might want to set better time expectations when they are really busy. read more

DO NOT COME HERE!!!! Take your money and business elsewhere! They have no attention to detail and HORRIBLE customer service! I've gone here 5 times for oil changes and alignment. Once I told them to top off the engine coolant because it was at half mark. When I got home they never did it. Second visit, I asked them again and they didn't do it. The 3rd time I hammered it into the front desk for them to do it but they couldn't because he wasn't sure what kind of engine coolant it takes because it's a Suzuki. After I left I had to call around and find a place in Pville that could order the engine coolant for me. Then this morning July, 2nd, 2015- I made an appointment at 9:30 for my brake check. I get there at 9:15 and wait at the front desk for 15 minutes. There were 3 mechanics in the shop just standing around not working on anything, two of them saw me through the window and ignored me. I just had the worst automotive experience of my life and I'm a baby boomer. I recently moved to Round Rock from Dallas so looking for a new place to change my oil. Unfortunately, I went to Brake Check on S IH 35 as my first auto repair in Round Rock. I should have been warned off by the mechanic working while eating pizza, but I was not. The place was not crowded and I willingly waited the 45 minutes it took to change my oil. Within a minute after leaving the lot, I entered IH 35 and immediately begun hearing something making a loud metallic racket under my car. I pulled off at the nearest exit and looked under my car to see a metal grate hanging off from my car and dragging on the street. So, I called the Brake Check. A man named Cameron introduced himself as manager and I told him of my situation and that I needed immediate help. He said I would have to drive back to the Brake Check and I asked him to please send someone out to shore up the grate before I drove it back. He refused and eventually issued a profane "f.....you" and hung up on me. Good fortune shown on me as I had pulled off right next to another automotive shop who promptly used plastic taps to temporarily adhere the grate to my car (so it wouldn't be further damaged) and drove it to their shop where they fixed it. I asked what they thought had happened and the response was....Someone just didn't know how to do this or didn't care how to do it. They did not charge me for the repair. Beware. You will be gouged. Took my car there for an estimate. An hour and a half later, they called and told me the price would be $227. I told them to go ahead and do the brake job. 30 minutes later, I got a call saying it would be another $75. I felt suspicious, but since they already started the repair, I basically had no choice. When the repair was finally completed and after I got the car home and looked over my invoice, I saw that I was charged $40 for brake fluid, bleed, and flush. Brake fluid costs less than $5 retail. I would never have authorized that amount if I had been made aware of it before. It was never mentioned. I called and asked them to remove the unauthorized charge. They refused. I will NOT be back, nor would I recommend them to anyone. Learned an expensive lesson. read more

We had a fantastic experience at Brake Check! I brought my car in around 5pm on a Friday, and I was fully expecting to have to wait a day or two to get it back because it was the weekend, but they had my car repaired before 7pm that same day. (They promise same day service as long as your car is in the shop before 6:01pm). I was very impressed! The customer service was great, the main guy at the front (I don't remember his name) was very friendly and helpful and seemed to be an honest guy. I would recommend anyone to go here! read more

This review is way overdue and deserves every bit of this 1 star. Many years ago, I took my car in to change the brakes. The price was reasonable and the service was quick. It went downhill after that. Once I drove off the lot, I noticed a clunky sound when driving above 30 mph. It was minor but as I kept driving it over the next few days, the sound got worse. It got so bad that I thought there was something majorly wrong with the car, so I took it to a mechanic that was referred to us by a friend. He looked under the car and quickly found a CLAMP that someone forgot to take out. So I went back to Brake Check, told about the clamp and how it was causing this trouble, and I just wanted a refund on the poor job. The staff denied any wrongdoing and the management refused to work with me, claiming that none of this was their fault. It was the worst display of customer service I have ever seen. I'm a first time customer of Brake Check, I was passing by and found store No.411 which 1705 South IH-35 Round Rock. I didn't want to go to a big chain place because I felt they would upsell you on the highest of everything and this place was smaller and more intimate so I thought I'd give it a try. After I left work I brought my car in to get service on Oct.14th 2019 for an Oil Change. The mechanic gave me a free alignment check on which he informed me if I got the wheel alignment with the oil change it would be under $100 total which it was and I was pleased. Here is when things go downhill I noticed the next day that I had paint damage to my hood. I immediately went back on Oct.15th about 4:30 pm to the location I got service and informed the store manager Chris of the situation. He heard me out but instantly said it was nothing he could do, we exchanged dialogue for about 35mins back and forth as I explained but it still was the same outcome. I asked for corporates number as I was not pleased with the answer given and figure someone higher up could come and see the issue at hand. I was put in touch(oct.24th) via phone with a Danny Tomlin who is the regional manager, who agreed to meet with me the following Wednesday from that day which was a freezing cold Oct.30th to do an investigation. I got there and we spoke briefly and within 7mins he finished his investigation and said he couldn't see how this could of happen at the shop so they're not liable. I didn't know the investigation would be him just looking at it and making his own assumption, I informed him that I didn't wait a week to meet with him for the situation to be brushed under the rug with a quick eyeball investigation and an I'm sorry but there's nothing I can do answer. At this point, I'm feeling like it's less about the issue of me as the first time customer and more about making sure the company came out on top. We both expressed our viewpoints on how we think the situation could be handled for over an hour and still ended with a stalemate and no clear decision. He just kept telling me "I don't see a clear impact point where the tear could have started. Maybe it was the erosion of the paint and it started peeling but my mechanics are very well trained and as long as I've worked for this company this has never happened so we can't assume liability because I can't see how we could have done it". I have a very well kept 2014 Black Impala with no dings, dents or chunks of paint missing until now. The manager Chris said he had a friend who has a body shop that he could call to see about pricing the damage, which if I were valued as a customer I was looking for this guy to say "Hey I'm sorry this happen but I talked to my guy and he'll take care of it and I'll cover the cost" but nope it was left up to me to eat cost. I was to come in that following Wednesday and Chris was supposed to have confirmation back from his friend at the auto body shop of what's the next step. When I came in that Wednesday he(Chris) was lost as to why I was there and when I mentioned about the car his shocked response told me he never spoke with the guy but he told me just the week before whenever he calls the guy gets right back with him within the same day. Now it's I haven't spoken with him(an entire week and no word)then in the same breath he tells me "but he said just bring your car in so he can see it" but this whole week I thought you didn't speak with him? When I asked about the voucher Danny left for me he was lost as to that as well and shifted me back to Danny and said I need to call him on that because he didn't know anything of it. So now when I call Danny and ask about the olive branch(free oil change) he extended from the company to me he told me he forgot it in his Jeep and to come back the following week but then ask "do you need it right now" when I said no my next change is not until January he said ok. When I go back the following week still nothing is left so I finally call corporate and speak with Ms.Janel Plummer who I presume is the receptionist. After I explained the matter to her she said she would call Danny to see what can be done and she would call me back,I'm still waiting on the callback. Now when I call or text Danny(the last outgoing from me was Nov.22nd @11:25am)I get no reply or answer and now today is December 10th, 2019 and the matter is just forgotten about. At this point, I'm not even mad anymore and I won't even bad mouth the company to detour anyone from going there. I just wanted to state my peace for others to see and make their own judgment all I want is my car fixed back how it was that eventful day before I pulled in to get my oil changed. I don't want anything extra no more and no less I just want my car back to normal which if left up to them it's not happening. So I just have to work even more extra hours to try and save up to fix a matter caused by someone else because I wanted to utilize the service of this facility. read more

I hate to review businesses unless I really had a bad experience. My brakes were grinding and they told me it was the brake pads. They took me out to show me how much pad I had left and a small scrape on my rotor. Anyway, they proceed to show me the quote of 375 for 2 pads and smoothing out the rotor. They just assumed I wanted the fullest lifetime warranty they had to offer without even asking. Had I not known that was probably a sales tactic of theirs, I would have went with it. After negotiating that to the lowest warranty and taking all the other extra stuff that I didn't ask for, I got it down to about 200$. My brakes have a funny noise to them almost like there is dust/debris on them. I would take it back, but I'm taking it to a more reliable mechanic who I can trust. 375 for changing of 2 brake pads? And then they sound worse than before? Really? Lastly, I took it in on a week day and was there from 3:30 to 7. Absolutely ridiculous. read more

I feel completely let down by this location, my husband brings his vehicle here for brakes and other repairs, so when we had picked up his car we decided to leave mine so they could look at the brakes, pedal felt soft and there was a pulsation when applying brakes. We were called and told that it needed rear brakes and the rotors turned,$ 250. We said ok to this repair, we were called and told car was done, about half hour later we were called again and said that the pedal was still soft and that it needed a master cylinder also, another 250, we were called a third time to be told that the pedal was still soft and that they felt it needed a brake booster also, my husband had no idea what that was so told them that they would have to speak with his wife. When he was handing me the phone, I heard the gentleman say to another person there, ok I have to talk to wife like she knows anything. So now I am completely pissed off because of the put down. He proceeded to tell me what they felt was wrong and another 600 dollars, we had just spent 410 on my husbands car the day before. I am now completely pissed off, asked if they could get cheaper part because I know it is cheaper from dealer, was told we will check on Monday which was next day, otherwise part wont be in until wed. No call all day monday and finally they called at 6pm on Monday to ask my husband if we were going forward with the repairs, no call all day to let us know if they had found the part otherwise which was promised. He told them yes because again they have my car torn apart on a rack, what are we suppose to do. Picked up car, felt like pedal was very hard and seemed like brakes were hanging up, my car down is a complete inconveinance for me because we work in complete different directions and hours. This is friday evening when we pick it up, have to be in San Marcos in morning so I can not take it back, we can not make arrangements to get it back until the following thursday, this whole week it has been hard pedal or no pedal and burning brake smell, along with car not being able to shift because brakes are locked on. I call and explain I will leave it and left a detailed note with vehicle to let them know what I had experienced over the few days I had driven it. No call to let me know if it is done or what they are thinking they need to do. I called to find out and was told car is done, I had to ask what they had done no one told me upfront. I was told they adjusted the brake pedal, I know some of you have no idea what that means, but to me it sent up a total red flag, there is no adjustment on a brake pedal, when I picked up car, the brakes felt just like I had when I left it originally, the pedal is soft and if I were to need an emergency stop it will not happen, I can't even lock them up when I try. I absolutely refuse to take it back again, $ 1151 dollars later and I still have the same problem, the technician who worked on my car was obviously a parts changer because they could not figure out what is wrong with my brakes. For those who wonder why I am so informed as to what is right and wrong on my brakes, I was in the automotive service industry for 25yrs, as a service writer and assistant service manager. NEVER WILL I DO SERVICE THERE AGAIN, and my husbands car brakes work but squeal all the time now too. Terrible rip off!! My usual mechanic was booked solid in December and couldn't fit me in, but I needed the front breaks done on my car desperately. This place was close to home so I took it there. It didn't take very long(the first time) but all they did was replace the pads with cheap ones for $93 and said the back breaks were fine. Within a few days my breaks were squealing and within a week the front left was grinding every time I came to a stop. I thought I'd wait it out but it just got worse. After pestering my husband to take the car back for over a month, I finally had time to take it back myself. I was told the rotors needed to be resurfaced and would replace the pads as well. Since they were under warranty, they would replace them and charge a $32 labor fee making this total $185 and again said the back breaks were fine. THIS TOOK 4 HOURS!! The squealing never went away and the grinding was just as it was before when I left the same day. I finally had time to go back 7 days later and they tell me my back breaks are bad, all of a sudden, and would be another $400 to fix those and they would replace the front pads under warranty since they were "worn from December". I said no, these pads were replaced under warranty last week. After "checking the computer" he said the pads weren't replaced the week before even though I was charged a labor fee for them to be replaced. He proceeds to tell me the rear breaks are what's causing the front breaks to wear faster, squeal and grind which is completely ridiculous. So he replaces the pads, no charge for labor this time. I drove away with it squealing and grinding worse than before I brought it in that day. I don't even think he drove the car to hear what I was talking about and was very dismissive of my speculations. He blamed my rear brakes on my not using my E-brake every time I park it...REALLY?! I wasn't about to pour another $400 into rear breaks when they were fine just 7 days before, all to fix a problem they created to begin with. I finally got my car into my normal mechanic who corrected the issue with top line break pads and my car has been quiet and smooth stopping since. Do NOT take your car here, they are clueless as to what they're talking about. Now I paid them a total of $278 for breaks that were cheap and ended up paying someone else $225 to re-do the breaks right. I'm out $500 all for a break job that had to be done 3 times. UNACCEPTABLE. Worst shop ever, I had to take my vehicle back 4 time the couldn't fix my break issue which is retarded BC that is what there suppose to specialize in. Eventually talk to some other manager wich wanted me to take my vehicle in and was also rude as can be. I never took my car in BC I was tired of dealing with with them. Eventually I took it to a different shop which fixed the issue right away. Brake check was a waste of time and money. Will never go back stay away!! read more
