Here's my experience. I heard some squeaking coming from my front tire and brought it in for a look. They offered my a free estimate so I took it in. They said it was due to a warped rotor that needed to be resurfaced. Upon inspection, they showed my that my front break pads needed to be replaced and I should replace my rear breaks as well due to wear. To replace the front breaks and resurface the rotors only - $359. I couldn't get the work done at that time and was planning to return another day. I always appreciate when a business gives a free estimate and to show my gratitude, I returned with $20 worth of cold beverages as a thank you. When I returned, I noticed my front hubcap had fallen off. Although the hubcap was damaged before, it had been on my tire that way for a good two years. The mechanic did not secure it properly and when I brought it to the attention of management, they didn't accept any responsibility. It would have been a nice gesture to knock off a few dollars on the quote but they didn't. No worries. But instead of returning, I decided to call around to compare prices. I'm glad I did. Allen's Auto in Vista did the same repair for $195 using the best quality breaks and told me the rear breaks did not need to be replaced at this time saving me a few extra dollars. The $195 was the total cost for everything. They didn't charge me for a break flush either. Everyone there at Brake Masters was very nice, patient and professional. It's always a good idea to receive multiple quotes for pricey repairs. They do offer a life-time warranty on their break pads and that benefit might explain the higher labor costs. If they could offer a more competitive price, I would return. read more

Very honest! I came here to have my brakes checked after a bad experience at Mossy Nissan in Oceanside and was pleasantly surprised at how honest the guys here are. Mossy wanted to charge me over $400 for what brake masters did for $186. They resurfaced my rotors and my car is running like new. They were fast and kept me well informed. I was calling around for a place with good Yelp reviews for servicing the brakes on my daughter's Forester. After getting some really high quotes, I called Brake Masters who invited me in for a free brake inspection. I showed up about an hour before closing and was able to get right in. The staff was all friendly and answered my questions thoroughly. I learned about the brand of pads they use and the options as far as cost vs. quality. I decided to give them the go ahead, thinking I would have to bring it back tomorrow, but they were willing to stay and get it done. As I was waiting for it, they kept me informed about what they were finding. Several of the rotors were warped, as I suspected, so I was expecting bad news and increased cost, but they were able to machine the rotors one last time. I had front and rear brakes and fluid flush done for a very reasonable cost and done quickly and efficiently. This morning I received a phone call asking me if everything was working as expected and thanking me for my business. All in all, very satisfied with this business. read more

Its really great when you find a mechanic or auto repair shop you can really trust! This is exactly what I found when I visited Brake Masters yesterday - to have some brake work done on my Altima. I had taken my car in for brakes about a year ago to a cheap place in Santa Ana. The place I visited charged me a boat load for brakes and new rotors claiming my new car's rotors could not be machined - hmmm. So, after getting frustrated at the constant squeeking, I finally visited Brake Masters in SM. Right from the start, their customer service, clear communication and speed were great. After dropping the car off, I received a call in about an hour - telling me the brake pads I had (from the crummy place) were still perfectly good - they were just squeaky and probably of disappointing quality. The technician told me he couldn't - in good conscience - recommend new brakes for me (as there was no safegy or wear issues; plenty of pad left)...unless I simply wanted to solve for the noise problem (which I did). So, I decided to have the front brakes done ($189+tax) and an oil change...and everything looks and sounds (absence of sound) great. In the end, how refreshing is it to go to a mechanic, have them honestly diagnose your car...not upsell or oversell you...and fix the car - right, the first time! It was a very fair price combined with really quality service. I can't recommend them enough!!!! read more

This is my first time here, but you can be sure it won't be the last. The customer service was outstanding!!! Johnny at the front was super helpful, friendly and just a pleasure to deal with. I had taken my car to the dealership for a safety recall, I asked them to please check my brakes. They told me I needed both front and back replaced, to the tune of $590 I know nothing about brakes repairs, because I have leased my last several cars. I called and got Johnny, he gave me a quote almost $200 less, but said to bring it by. I dropped it off, super great experience. I was told I would be called shortly. Less than an hour later I get a call saying I only needed the front brakes replaced, but should get the fluid changed. In a couple of hours I had new front brakes and fresh fluid, all for less than $300 what the dealer quoted me. Score! My truck spent 5 hours there and I spent 3. Went in for a brake job which the said it only needed the front brakes done. After waiting for my new rotors came in they started installing them. Found out they were the wrong ones. Played that game twice, then they finally got it right. Good on them for catching the problem before it turned into an accident and handled it professionally. I work right around the corner from Brake Masters, so I tend to come here pretty often. When they first opened next to my work a few years back, the price was ridiculously high so we never thought to give them a try again. But one day I decided to take my car in for an oil change so I could just walk back to work and they charged me a fair enough price. Fast forward a year and they've replaced my brake pads and rotors on my charger for only $600. It seems like a lot, but I've been to places who charged that for my old Mazda I had a few years back. They got it done in less than 3 hours as well. So a couple days ago, I came by for another oil change and since we're all so familiar with each other by now, they gave me an amazing deal on an oil change that would have typically cost me $60-70 (synthetic). All the guys are super friendly and cool so I never feel like I'll be told to get something I don't actually need. It also just helps in general when you get along with them so well. I'm not sure they'll sell you with their rates alone, but their customer service is amazing along with their dedication to get everything done in a reasonable amount of time. Not to mention the convenience that they're literally 1 minute walking time away from me... such a great place and I'll continue coming here for sure. read more

I had front / rear brakes and rotors installed by Brake Masters (Scottsdale, AZ) about 7 years ago while in Arizona. I liked the company/store that installed these brakes as they seemed to be honest and straight shooters, plus they offered a lifetime warranty on brake pads. Today, I had the opportunity to test that lifetime warranty with the San Marcos store. I met Johnny and Abraham. They got me in quickly and did a full inspection. They told me my back brakes were in good shape and my front rotors didn't need to be replaced, just turned (cleaned up), thereby saving me a bundle! I did need both front disc pads and those were provided free because of the warranty...and they provided premium pads with a lifetime warranty! I called these guys to look at my breaks and asked if they had time to look at it. They said no problem and to come right in. I asked if i needed an appointment and they said no. When i got there 20 minutes later, the place was jammed, maybe a good sign that they do good work. I asked the guy at the counter how long he thought it'd be and he said they close at 5. That was over 3 hours away. Not what i expected based on my phone call. I had to leave, i didn't have that much time to wait around, especially if there's no close local business to hang out at. I sat and waited got a few things done on my pc and less than 50 minutes my vechile was done and they had also topped off my fluids. I was in the area today and needed to fix some bolts on my front right tire. John at the counter was extremely helpful by completely acknowledging my what I needed to fix on the car and also made recommendations for now and maintenance in the future. I knew I needed to fix a few things and these guys got it done for a small price and quick. ALWAYS ALWAYS get a second estimate! It's taken me a month to write this because I was so angry, the first draft of the review was filled with cuss words! My car was making a strange noise in the back when I braked. Brake Masters did my brakes originally, so I took it in for a check, thinking something in the brakes needed adjusting. After the inspection, I was shocked to learn my wheel bearings were bad, especially since I hadn't heard any noise that could be attributed to wheel bearings. But not just on one wheel. All four wheels needing replacing to the tune of $1163! They must have taken me for a sucker because I was a woman and couldn't possibly know that the probability of all four wheels having bad bearings, all at the same time, was slim. It's not impossible but without any telltale noise, I highly doubted this diagnosis. I got out of there, thinking if it wasn't brakes, I was going to my regular mechanic. He inspected my car and fixed it for $99. It needed a rotor resurfaced on the rear where I had heard the noise when coming to a stop. I guess Brake Masters wanted to make some extra $$, but they lose a customer. I won't be back. Find a quality mechanic, get a second opinion, and don't waste your money. 2 stars because I'm happy with my initial brake installation a few years back. read more
