I scheduled an appt. with Brake Masters since my last appt for my oil change at the dealership, I was told I needed to have my rear brakes replaced. This past Saturday I arrived at BM, assuming I needed to get my rear brakes worked on. I received a call about an hour after dropping my car off by one of the gentlemen letting me know I still had about 50% of life left on the rear brakes and about 80% on my front brakes. It's nice to get honest feedback. I didn't have a need to replace my brakes and these guys prove they are a part of the good ones. Thank you Steve! Avoid this place. They attempted to frighten my wife into unnecessary repairs. On 11/17/2017 my wife took her 2010 Mazda CX-7 to this location. She had been told by another mechanic to get the brakes fixed in the next three months as the pads were reaching end-of-life. This location of Brake Masters found $600 (estimated) damage, including a brake line that had come off, spraying fluid all around the wheels. She was told it could have caused a fire! Everything had to be rebuilt, she was told. She was suspicious that so much damage was not noticeable in the car's driving, and had it towed to Jack Furrier's (Catalina Foothills). The result was completely different. They said the brakes were fine, even the pads, and that a bolt was missing from the calipers. Furrier's replaced the bolt, charged us nothing, and the car runs fine. This is a great local garage! read more

I've only been here once recently (I went here years ago for brakes, if you can believe it!) I came in for an oil change. They diagnosed some other problems the vehicle is having- and they check out, and I trust these guys. They offered different options and suggestions if I come back for more work, so it's a nice no-pressure kind of place, which I love. I don't like where I feel something is "Urgent, do it now!" hassling, and Brake Masters does not do that. I think they like repeat business and they win it from me. Went to the brake masters on grant and Columbus for a simple oil change. I had made an appointment the day prior with Marco the tech. When I arrived at my appointment time Marco told me he would need me to be patient timewise as their "master technician" had called in sick this day. (No one had called all morning to let me know this information so I could possibly go to another location). I ended up getting my oil changed here. Before I had dropped my car off I was having zero problems with my car. Just wanted to keep up with the maintenance on it. When I left the grant amd Columbus location about half way into the drive to get my son I noticed my change oil light was still on. I called Marco and explained this and said my car also was now not sounding the right way, infact it was sounding worse. He told me to come back to make sure they put enough oil in it. I said okay I would be by after I picked up my 5 year old son from daycare. As Im driving to brake masters with my son in the car my car completely locks up and dies as I'm driving in the middle of the intersection! I could barely pull over to the side of the side. I called brake masters again, Marco who answered the phone was extremely rude to me and saying it could have just been my car and not taking responsibility for brake masters doing this to my car. He told me on the phone after I explained to him in frustration asking him what they did to my car! He told me I needed to change my attitude!!!!!!! They ended up towing my car back to brake masters, I was late picking up my two other infant children from daycare and late for an event we had previously planned. Horrible experience!!!! These guys are total scam artists! They will take advantage of you it's sad to say. They changed my girlfriends oil amongst other things and it needed to be re-done less than a month later, there are no leaks I just don't think they did anything. Figured we would give them a try again for something simple. They quoted me 1200 dollars for 2 spark plugs and a "major tune up" lol no thanks! The guy was so rude when we brought the car in the first time as well. It was like we were intruding when we walked inside, and yes we were wearing masks. As a woman, I have had bad experiences with mechanics---they have told me I needed things fixed that didn't need to be fixed, I was way overcharged and I have had bad work down on my car. Because of my bad experiences, I had avoided bringing in my car to a mechanic even though my car started to have issues. I drive 40 miles to work everyday. I had to get my car looked at because I started worrying about breaking down. Although, I had become a skeptic, at Brake Masters on Grant Avenue near Swan, I found a group of guys I can trust. I brought my car in for a diagnostic and while I was at work, they messaged me what needed fixed along with the costs and pictures to show the parts the needed reair. I researched the costs and the costs BM quoted me were very fair. By phone, I approved what I wanted repaired. They replaced my brakes and brake fluid, new battery, new drive belt and an oil change. They got everything done while I was at work. I live in the country, and work in town, so I need a car. They saved me by getting everything done in a day. I bought my car new and brought it in at 140,000 miles. It was sounding bad--squeaky brakes, rough engines, poor acceleration. When I got my car back, it now runs like it did when I bought it new---When I picked it up, they showed me the parts of my car engine they replaced and explained in detail the work they did. I am SOOO grateful to the guys at Brake Masters. These guys are rare---I recommend them to anyone!!!! read more

I called to get a quote on installing a new alternator and it was very affordable. I brought my own from Auto Zone and they had no problem with that. They gladly took it. They also towed my truck same day to their shop. By noon the next day it was complete and ready to pick up! My father went to this location and found out that brake masters tried to charge him $450. He found out that the service writer and the manager did not know how to use the Mitchell labor system and have been overcharging people on their labor. After they found out how to use the Mitchell system found out they overcharge my father by $200 on labor. Good luck on anybody that went prior to them finding out. In December, 2019, I had Brake Masters, which is located at Grant and Columbus, do some front end work. I also noticed that there was something never quite right. Then, in 2021, I had some radiator work done, and I noticed that the low coolant fluid light came on. [In addition, on my visits to that location, it always seemed like there was a strange tension in the air.] I took my vehicle to one of their competitors, they had to replace the radiator, because work done on that was shoddy. Because I noticed that there was also a strange rattling, that competitor determined that I needed front end work. Since I checked that Brake Masters "did" front end work, it was determined that they did that work also in a shoddy manner. This means that 2 jobs, which costed quite a sum of money, were done in a very shoddy manner. Even if any work was under warranty, I considered it just too risky to allow them to ever perform work on my vehicle again. I reasoned that it was time to move on, because those jokers at that Brake Masters location were more about scamming people of their money than getting real repairs made. I will NEVER return to that place again. That place should be avoided, and there are far better places in Tucson that will do the work correctly. read more

I have to say that this shop was fantastic. It's not a myth that auto repair shops try to dupe women. I've owned a car in Tucson for many years and have dealt with that attitude. Thankfully my father prepared me but this shop was honest, friendly, thorough and educational. They had no problem actually taking me into the shop area and showing me what they were talking about and speaking people speak not mechanic speak. They gave me a coupon without me even asking! I have been a customer of this store forever. I mean since the owner of the company first opened it. But the service has gone down and my most recent experience was really bad. These guys claimed that they fixed my brakes but never checked the rotors and twice (so they claim) replaced the master cylinder. It was still not working right. read more

Great guys and very helpful, but expensive for anything serious. After moving to Tucson and purchasing a new car I wanted to get it serviced. After reading some good reviews I tried this Brake Masters location. The service itself was decently priced, they realized my water reservoir was empty (I hadn't checked, my bad!) and suggested a pressure test to make sure everything was okay with the system. I've also had them change my brakes, and again they did an excellent job at a decent price. The best part is they're open on Saturdays so it makes it easy to fit around my work. The downside: They're more expensive than specialist shops for other jobs. I needed some emissions repair done, brake masters quoted me over $1000. Other local specialist muffler shops have quoted me more around $500, so just be aware that some services might be overcharged. Overall they're still an excellent shop and I'll definitely continue to use them for most things. read more
