This location told me I need about $1-2K worth of work done including brakes, a timing belt, shocks and struts and some other small stuff. I said thanks and took my Honda to a mechanic friend. Not only could I go another 30K miles on the brakes (he actually showed me), I did not need shocks and struts and my Honda doesn't need a timing belt until 105K miles. My friend called the dealer himself and asked. They did say in AZ you might want to do it at 60K because of the heat. I took my car in for a shaking issue going down the freeway. about $2300 later and a bunch of new parts and brake work my car rides worse now than it did before I took it in. I have returned 3 times afterwards to give them an opportunity stand in back of their work and do the right thing. There's nothing worse than a thief and a bald face liar! I love this place lol. I drove all the way to Phoenix from Georgia. And as soon as I pulled up to my new home, my car started over heating. Called around. And mike at brakes plus was the only person who seemed to be even somewhat concerned about my car troubles. Brought it in. They said my fan wasn't working for whatever reason. Reached down and wiggled it a bit and it cut back on. They let it run for like an hour and a half and it seemed fine. So they sent me along my way. Free of charge. So it started acting up again last night so I brought it in this morning at 8am. And they asked if I was going to leave it there or come back. I wanted to leave it but didn't have a ride home. I had a coupon for a synthetic blend oil change but I use high mileage oil. The coupon said high mileage oils higher. No problem. I called to inquire how much more did it cost for 5 quarts of HM for a passenger car oil change. Brakes plus does NOT have set prices for oil changes as they apparently vary with make and model of the car. I was told this information was needed before telling me such information. Strange as most oil change locations have set prices. I will avoid a place that has the ability to increase the price up if they think your car is more difficult to work on in order to make up for their coupon. I double checked my thought process with Midas and Jiffy Lube, BOTH were able to tell me EXACTLY how much more it cost without having to know my make or model other than a passenger car oil change with 5 quarts. We've been coming to Brakes Plus for a year, since moving to Peoria. They've never pushed us for repairs we didn't initially go in for, which I really appreciate. I went in this past weekend for an oil change, and as always, they had other recommendations for repairs you can "take it or leave it." I had plans for the rest of the day so I was going to "leave it" for now. (After talking to my husband, apparently we've been putting it off for a while :) ) Ken Murray was so concerned about putting it off yet again, he took me to the car to show the big gash in the part that was leaking and offered to pay for a rental car so that I wouldn't miss a beat. Sabrina drove me to the rental place and stayed with me until everything was squared away. I will never take my car here again took 5 hours to do an alignment and I asked them to tighten down all the bolts for my suspension because I recently lowered my car and when I came to pick up they said they forgot to do it how do you forget to do something that's on paper?? Then I said I'll bring it in another day and I came in 2 days later and they said it's gonna take all day to tighten down bolts cuz his "Volkswagen" guy isn't there and if there other employees can't figure out how to tighten bolts on a Volkswagen which is the same on any other car then how are they mechanics went to Firestone down the street instead :) read more

Unbelievable. I've spent thousands of dollars here, as well has my family and friends, and I will be sure to let them all know how bad this place has become. I've never been super pleased as I've always spent three times what I found on the internet as the reasonable fix price. trust me, your estimate is double what it should be and they always find more to do, but they are a neighborhood spot and I went for the convenience and location. Today I call about a simple window fix and somebody (I think he said his name was Dennis) quoted me $400 to repair an out-of-alignment window. No wonder I've been overpaying for everything. This place has lost all my trust and business and I will be letting everyone I know not to patronize this establishment ever again. My parents live in the neighborhood of this place and on occasion out of convenience I have taken my vehicle in for various work- brake pads, oil changes, etc. After an incident this past weekend, I will never utilize this shop's services and neither will any of their neighbors. My parents have lived on a residential street around the corner from this shop for over 20 years; I grew up on that street. Over the past few weeks, my dad working on a car in his driveway and garage, had noticed cars speeding down the street much faster than the posted speed limit, getting just past his house and slamming on the brakes. Knowing enough about cars to put two and two together, he looked at the drivers to confirm his suspicions: these were Brakes Plus employees testing their work on customer's cars, using his street as a test track. (Did I mention this is a residential, family lined street?) After watching this happen again and again- he got fed up and called the shop. The employee answering the phone had one opportunity to handle the situation correctly- apologize profusely and ensure that it would never happen again. Instead, he squandered that chance in favor of screaming at my dad over the phone and hanging up on him. Feeling that the situation was still not resolved, my dad went to the shop to speak to the manager. Unfortunately, nothing positive resulted from that attempt; the employee actually thought it appropriate to call the Peoria Police. The customer service I received during the several occasions I used this shop was never notable. It's response to a legitimate complaint about an action that ultimately could result in serious harm is not only unnecessarily defensive, but reflective of their irresponsible attitude toward the community they're trying to run a business in. I rely upon Yelp and my fellow Yelpers when researching any new service. It is my hope that this post will encourage my parents' neighbors, near and far, to find another place to spend their money at when in need of this type of service. read more

Need to rethink about purchasing lifetime warranty part like brake pads and shoes. In my case, the ultra premium brake pads and shoes were last only 25000 miles. Charged me $200 labor fees to replace the warranty parts. Two years ago, they charged only $120 labor fees. Smart people can do the maths. read more

I've been a customer of Brakes Plus over 15 years. My vehicle ,my wife's vehicle and both my daughters. NO MORE Damage was done to my daughters 2013 Ford Focus during a change of a tail light. After trying for 3 days to talk to the Manager Mark P. I was told by Mark the damage was not done by his guys.....sorry Brakes Plus and Mark that's a lie. I know what my daughters car looked like when it was brought in for an oil change and the damage that was done on Monday 4/4 was not there before the car was brought in. I went in for a new battery and told I had a coolant leak, belts needed to be replaced and other things totaling $886. I agreed to a new battery and $29 oil change which totaled $254. I took my car to a reliable mechanic several days later. He checked my car out thoroughly and said there was no coolant leak and I didn't need belts and there was nothing wrong with my car. I was directed here after Discount Tire broke a lug nut during a tire rotation. I immediately headed over to be told that I needed to make an appointment, and they only accept appointments 8-12 or 12-6, VERY inconvenient for someone with a full time job! The staff acted very annoyed that I was even there trying to get my tire fixed, and when I called back to set an appointment they still sounded annoyed by it. Couldnt even get a simple alignment right even after having tried twice! the second time I watched the "mechanic" move the alignment device attached to the wheel that was not in spec. Then Jason the Mgr hands the readout and shows me everything is in spec. The "mechanic" MANIPULATED THE ALIGNMENT READING (Same manager Jason that let me leave even after I question it the first time for being out of spec). Alignments are over their heads. I took my small suv into the brakes plus at deer valley and 83rd ave. My car had a small annoying rattle. We went for a drive so I could point out what I was hearing. They took the car back for a complete complementary "inspection". They came back about 20 minutes later with an estimate of 1400.00! Mind you this car has been well taken care of and only has 60,000 miles. Estimate included shocks, struts, sway bar, alignment, oil change, fuel injection flush, and a cabin air filter. Fast forward through the tears as a single parent, I became suspicious when they added the cabin air filter as I literally changed it at the end of February. Quickly made excuses why that could happen...stuff still stuck in the tube. I asked for the oil to be changed and I needed new wiper blades. Quickly said there would be no charge for the wiper blades as if that gesture of kindness would cause me to fork out 1400.00. Just didn't feel right but kept telling me that this is the mileage when these things break. I repeatedly asked if this was all necessary and was this what was causing the rattle. They confirmed it was. Told them I need to think on it for a minute. Quickly ran home and called Leroy's at 91st and Bell Rd. Troy, the owner, was helpful and concerned over this large estimate. Brought car to him Wednesday. There is NOT ONE SINGLE THING wrong with the shocks, struts, or fuel injection. Cabin air filter was perfectly clean. What brakes plus did FAIL to do was air up the tires and let me know that I needed 2 new tires (Discount tire warrantied). THE ONLY REPAIR NEEDED was the sway bar! Made appointment with Troy and immediately went and got 2 tires. Yesterday Troy successfully replaced the sway bar and took the car to Tech 1 for alignment. TOTAL BILL WAS $328.00. Noise is gone and car drives like new! I feel there is a special place in hell for people like those at brakes plus that prey on vulnerability, worry, financial concern. It is literally psychological abuse. Also makes me question their treatment of a total A/C replacement last summer! On a funny note thanks brakes plus for the "incentive wipers" and I had a coupon for the oil change. read more

Be very leery of sudden discoveries of your vehicle when taking your vehicle into this repair shop. We took two of our cars in for simple oil changes and one was deemed unsafe. This is what they told our 16 year old. The mechanics seemed to find other things wrong with our car when we were just coming in for maintenance work. After the 3rd discovery of problems (and close to $2000 in repairs) I decided to get a second opinion as it was assessed that my brakes needed immediate repairs. Little did they know my brakes had recently been replaced and I knew this was fabricated information. I was told my back brakes were at a 3mm and upon further inspection with an honest mechanic at a different repair shop, they were reassessed at a 7mm. Do not trust this repairs shops evaluation of vehicle. read more
