Great spot for a fun night out! Went on Saturday night for a birthday party. Although it's mainly a 20-30 something white crowd wearing jeans, there is some diversity regarding age, race and dress. This place was great! We were in town for a business conference and planned our company karaoke party there. The owner Dino was super quick at replying and did a great job coordinating with me. The bar itself is very low key, but on Wednesday when we were there the place was packed and karaoke was flowing all night. The energy and music was so great that everyone danced and sang all night long. We brought fun light up glasses and everyone was wearing them and the music was flowing. The bar is part lounge and part karaoke and it's a perfect blend for a fun night out. It's great for the ones who like to sit at the bar and watch the game, the ones who belt out the tunes, and the ones who want to dance the night away. If you are only in town for a couple days I certainly recommend Brando's. Everyone is so friendly and trust me the next time you go back to Chicago you'll be at Brando's. read more

My friends and I went to Brando's on the eve of my brithday(July 19th into the 20th) . The manager was very nice and made sure we were well taken care of! I even got a birthday drink after midnight :) But it was such a neat place with both the option of the loud, crowded bar and the quiet bar. I would definitely go here again (and frequent if I was a local). It was a wonderful set up, great song selection for karoke as well as many places for groups to sit and be able to hang out. I went for the first time on Saturday. There was a $10 cover. I hadn't been downtown in a year and was looking forward to some good drinks. I just expect for downtown to have top notch bartenders with those prices. I was VERY disappointed. I paid $14 for a watered down nasty drink (#4 on the menu). I told the bartender and he just added more juice. I stuck with an overpriced $7 Miller light and then we left. I headed back southwest to my hood and got a $10 bucket of beer with 5 beers and a VERY good strawberry long island for $8. I won't ever be going back to Brando's. read more

watch your open tab at the Bar because you will be charged extra when you only ordered and signed for two drinks. I was charged 30 and there was a charge of an extra 28 dollars to my card that I noticed when I got home. I will be contacting them tomorrow for sure. read more

This place is very authentic in decor, making you feel as if you are back in the 1920's or 30's. I researched before going to Chicago for a place to go for happy hour after touring Millennium Park, etc. for the day. This was in the Loop so perfect in location to fit in and it got nice ratings too coming up as one of the top bars to go to in Chicago. Excellent! The bartender was very attentive and engaging. They had a nice happy hour. There was karaoke to my surprise! Guy singing (a customer) had a mask on the entire time. So they are safe there although being from New York I was scared to be at an indoor venue for too long. We are not quite there yet. Bartender told me to sit wherever I feel comfortable even outside which I opted for occasionally. They are going by proper indoor guidelines as far as I can tell. Under normal circumstances I would probably rate this place a 5! It attracts a nice crowd, it was not overly crowded at happy hour time (I went on a Wednesday) and they are keeping it going during Covid with karaoke everyday? There is no reason not to try at least once if you like that sort of venue. I highly recommend and will be back if in Chicago again! read more

The food here isn't something I would get again but the drinks are amazing when Daphne makes them. She has me hooked on this burbon based martinis. They also serve 5 dollar martinis like everyday. The decor makes for a nice after work spot to hangout co worker. The karaoke provides a nice source of entertainment as well. Do yourself a favor and get a sazerac made by Daphne! read more

This is my go-to after-work spot for when I'm meeting up with old coworkers downtown--and based on how busy it can be on a weeknight, I'm clearly not alone! This place was bumping on a Tuesday, which is uncommon for most bars. I'm not a karaoke singer, but do dig the low-key vibe and the singers are, thankfully, usually pretty good. It's a Speakeasy, so they keep the lights down low and usually with a red tint--that can make it difficult to read the menu so you might find yourself using your phone flashlight to figure out what to order. During the week, at least, they don't have waitresses for the tables, so everyone is ordering from the rather small bar. That can make it difficult to get the bartender's attention at time, but you usually don't have to wait too long. If you're hungry, they also have a small menu of bar snacks--the fry basket is pretty large for the price, so that's what I normally go for! read more

DRINKS: The drinks were great. I had a Montauk Mule, which is similar to a Moscow mule, but is made with sparkling wine for the carbonation. Alcohol on alcohol will always get a vote from me. I also had an old fashioned for the happy hour, which was pretty strong, especially for a $5 drink. Some places tend to water down happy hour drinks or have smaller pours. Not so here. HAPPY HOUR: The special consists of $5 Old Fashioneds (which were good!), $4 Mules, and some beer specials. FOOD: I used the yelp coupon to get a free appetizer and ordered the sausage pizza. Sooooo good. For the most part, I try to stay away from excessive carbs, but this pizza would make me have an affair on my "lifestyle" (read: temporary diet). The crust was so buttery and flaky, its almost as if they used biscuit dough to make the pizzas. When I come back, I will get this again. SERVICE: The waitress was super sweet, and was happy to entertain the boring, never-ending stories of a couple sitting nearby. It took me back to my days of bartending when I had to pretend to care what random neighborhood regulars were talking about. She really seemed to master the pseudo-interested "Wow!" "No Way!" and "That's Crazy!" Good for her. It really is an art. ATMOSPHERE: Very dim and red. It's not the kind of place you go to get a good look at someone. So if looks aren't your strong area, this may be your lucky place. Made up with decorations to look like an old speakeasy. Leathery red couches, "Old Campari" type posters strewn around, wrought iron details. That kind of thing. All in all: I came alone this time, but the happy hour specials (and the food) are enough for me to suggest this place to my friends for the next meet-up. read more

Yep, so went there for my coworkers last day... got man handled because I was trying to help clean up and didnt know where to help put the trays of pizza, plus we still didnt get our other two dishes and by then the bouncer was already telling me I had to go because I put th trays on his pictures which I didn't realize. So I tried moving the trays and still got man handled because he thought I was being a smart ass. I'm a meeting planner and help try to support my Chicago businesses... this will not be on my list. The karaoke is what makes this place popular. The music was good but the food, drinks and service were mediocre at best. My friends ordered food and some of it never even came (and we sat here for 3 hours!) Even after we inquired about it with the server (an hour later) the food still never came. Of the food that did arrive, the serving size was super small and the pizzas were greasy. My friend and I ended up with terrible stomach aches after eating here! Service was scarce so we ended up having to bus our own table of the beer bottles and glasses. Most tables were reserved so if you have a special event planned I'd recommend making reservations in advance. The atmosphere is fun though and the singing and dancing were hilarious. read more

I am not a dive bar person in general, but the office wanted to go here. As per the usual at such bars, they offer only things you could make yourself for much cheaper. I was astonished, however, at how hard they even make it to spend money here. We literally stood at the bar, trying to get the bartender's attention, while she pointedly ignored us less than two feet away, for over 15 minutes. When we went back to the bar for second round, she again didn't acknowledge us until I spoke up and explained we had come over here to order more things. I am not a generally particularly picky about my service, but I do like to be acknowledged as a person. Brando's is a step back in time and nothing like the initial storefront. Grab a menu and peruse the throwback drink selection with gems like Mr. Burnham, a bourbon forward drink, to the Pink Poodle. They also have an old fluorescent sign from the Biograph Theater where Dillinger was shot. Take a step back in time when you check out Brando's! Take you ID. This is a pretty solid place to karaoke but it gets packed and you can easily be in a queue of 40 people at its busiest. The layout isn't the best and it gets crowded. You can reserve seating for groups for free which is really nice. They have a online app for reserving songs which is kinda cool. The Karaoke DJ is a good guy too. I'd actually recommend to go on a non weekend. But obviously that doesn't work for everyone. What a fun spot in the loop! I couldn't believe how affordable drinks were and you can't beat the live karaoke entertainment. Hubbie and I were nearby seeing a comedy show at the Chicago Theater, so after spending a couple hours laughing we decided to venture out and find a fun spot to keep the night going! Insert Brando's Speakeasy. A few years back I looked into this place for celebrating my birthday and I'm not sure why I didn't follow through with it, but I should have -- Brando's is so much fun! It was pretty crowded on a Saturday night, but we were able to snag a couple bar stools up at the front which was perfect for karaoke. Neither of us got up and sang (not enough liquid courage I suppose), but we had a great time watching and listening to everyone else give it a go on the mic. Along with the main TV by the stage, they also have TVs around the bar area that show the words of the song so you can sing along! Like I said, drinks were reasonable which was shocking given the location. They even had Stella buckets on special for $20 and a $4 beer is not too shabby for downtown!
