We ate at Branks today for lunch and it was by far the BEST BBQ we have eaten. The brisket was dynamite as well as the baby back ribs. Their potato salad was amazing, but their baked beans were addictive! You definitely want to try their deserts with the Oreo crumble. Service was outstanding and our drinks never went empty. After trying others bbq in the area this is hands down the most home tasting. The chicken was moist and tender however I wish the skin was a little more crispy, less chewy. The ribs tasted spot on however were not as tender as they could be. The beans were the favorite side, they taste very homemade. The baked potato was good. The only thing I'd like to really see different is possible a sausage or pecan pie. We didn't see these items and have found them as favorites in bbq. The fries just weren't that good. The years have been kinder to Branks since my last review. The BBQ is always super tender since I've revisited and they serve (unbreaded) salt and vinegar wings! So good! While I can appreciate the Christian music in the background, they need to have a few more songs in their line-up. Decor needs an update. Feels like Tuscany on one side, a bit of Texan on another and absolutely nothing on one entire wall segment. Very odd. The door between the two rooms is absolutely stunning. I'd love to know the history of it but the servers always seem just a little too busy to stay at the table for too long (or in the dining room for that matter. Where do they go?) The decor just doesn't quite fit the atmosphere of what you'd expect for BBQ. Doesn't have to be stereotypical country BBQ feel but it needs something more. Would enhance the experience vastly! I really enjoyed my BBQ lunch from Brank's. This was our second visit; however, this time I used its online order and had my 3 lunches all prepared. Our 1/2 smoked chicken was some of the best take out chicken that I have ever had. Most importantly it was MOIST! The BBQ sauce was on the side, it too was very good. I highly recommend the baked beans, this alone deserves 5 stars. I debated between 4 and 5 stars. The sides were not very big and the prices are a bit high. Overall, a 5 won out. Ordered a pulled pork sandwich and a full rack St Louis ribs over the phone on a busy Friday night. It was much easier than doing an online order and was ready as quick as our 15 minute drive. The sandwich was moist and didn't have large pieces of fat that can occur that I don't like. The ribs were meaty, tender, moist and delicious even without the sauce. The sauces, both regular and spicy were good but not memorable. The meat itself was the star because you could actually taste the meat rather than heavy smoke. Lawrenceburg, TN? Hattiesburg, MS? No, I am in Sumner, WA in the shadow of Mt. Rainier. Brank's BBQ is wonderful. I just had brisket that reminded me of what I grew up eating on the Texas Panhandle. Their pulled pork is very good as well, though it doesn't quite have that pink ring like should. Maybe the pork available isn't up to snuff or maybe I didn't get the select cut. Either way, it is still very tasty. Their sides are where the loss of a star comes in. While the baked beans are good, three spoonfuls is just not an adequate portion. You serve me 4 very large slices of brisket, a large mound of pulled pork. But then basically a sampler of beans? They were great on the flavor, I just wish it was a bit more is all. The cornbread is cornbread muffins. That's OK, but not quite authentic as a slice of true pan baked cornbread. Also, the butter is prepackaged. True Southern or Texas- Style (as is claimed in their ads) would be a slice of sweet cornbread still hot and a serving of real butter or honey butter. I don't want to sound negative, Brands is some of the best BBQ I have had and the service was top notch. However, the sides were something I noticed that could be improved in order to kick it up a notch. I am very happy with the experience and will definitely be coming back. The food was ok. I got the big onion sandwich (pulled pork, coleslaw, and an onion ring). When I attempted to pick up the sandwich the bottom bun disintegrated and the meat spilled everywhere. My niece ordered a pulled pork sandwich and the same thing happened to her. The meat was ok.... nothing special. From the moment we arrived the place started to get busy and wonder why. They only had two people serving and seating customers. They didn't expect to get so much business. But, the crowd was patient as they waited at the entrance. The two servers were very nice and worked hard to help everyone. When food is good and I spend $25 on my plate with alcohol I think it is a bargain, well that ain't the case here. Based on the reviews I don't think this place is consistent. The cornbread and the fresh cut fries was the best part of the meal. Some would find the cornbread it a bit dry, but that is how it is done in the South. BBQ is supposed to be in your face. Either the smoke or the fire is suppose to permeate the meat. It seems they barely want any smoke to the meat and the same for using spices, including salt and pepper. Washington state doesn't have the culture to appreciate and really understand good BBQ. That is almost UnAmerican to me. In Texas BBQ is a way of life. All the meats were too lean and lacked flavor. I'm sure you are asking, "Well, why didn't I put some BBQ sauce on it?" I did and I was just disappointed even more. This is by far the worse sauce I have ever tasted PERIOD I wished I had some generic bottled sauce from Grocery Outlet. It lacked any depth or complexity. I think it had tones of coffee in it. It was horrible. The beans had a flavor of baked beans and ranch style beans with meat in it. I was on the border with that. The cole slaw was beyond bland.
