I love the Brass Door. It reminds me of a place my grandparents would have taken me too, it's very old school and I love that about it. The food is pretty solid, I really enjoy the prime rib with creamed spinach when I'm feeling like a decadent meal. I also enjoy the scallops and the chicken piccata. The lentil soup is also amazing as is their garlic bread. The bar area is a great place to watch a game whilst enjoying your meal. read more

Tonight was our first time at The Brass Door. We will be back. To start with, parking was close and well lite. You only get one chance to make a first impression and our first impression was great. Our hostess was warm in her greeting and showed us to the table right away. Rhonda, our server was wonderful. Friendly and great personality and helpful with our selection of meals. There were 4 of us, The food was just lovely, The meat was delicious, tender, great portions. The salad was fresh and was not swimming in dressing. The baked potato was perfect. The bread pudding was delish as was the apple pie. The bread was another plus. We were not rushed and the wait staff was attentive of our water and dishes. Another unspoken plus was how clean the ladies room was. I was very impressed with that. Whenever a bathroom is a mess it makes me wonder about other unseen places in the place. I can't eat much early in the day, so at a large group lunch recently I ordered a turkey sandwich and fruit. The chef must have been insulted. Poorest excuse for a sandwich. Lots of lettuce, lunch-meat type turkey, a teeny bit of mayo and there you go. Tiny cup of melon for fruit. The hot plates looked OK, except for the thin mashed potatoes. Fun retro place but very spotty service and questionable quality. We had a long wait to be seated despite plentiful open tables and staff. Then wait for server. Then we had a nice solicitous and attentive patch and ordered food. The prime rib was tasty and a specialty of he house but pricey for what you get. Then long wait again. Then we ordered creme brûlée for desert and it came out raw. As in raw eggs, no torch top, somewhat dicey smell. Took one bit, inedible, probably would have gotten sick if we had consumed it. I can't believe I haven't written a review for this place yet! My wife and I have been coming here for close to a decade, and we have consistently had excellent service and wonderful meals. So much so, that when it was time for us to celebrate our 10th anniversary, we rented out one of the dining rooms and invited over 30 of our closest friends to celebrate with us. It was a tremendously memorable experience, and the Brass Door staff played a huge part in making it so! By and large, we come here when we're in the mood for steak. The chefs definitely know how to prepare their steak, and have been doing an outstanding job of it for at least as long as we've been there. We also love hanging out in the bar on rainy days. We'll bring a book, kick back and read, sipping on one or two Brass Door Cappuccinos (two is our limit) before having a nice leisurely meal and heading back home. I have been going there for 10 years now, always for a Christmas lunch with several friends and several times during the year for dinner with the spousal unit and another couple or two. Never had a bad meal, but I only order the prime rib, creamed spinach and of course the bread basket---or two. Plus a "pop" or two from the bar. We used to love Brass Door. Since the ownership change it is awful. I do not think we will go again. We went two times in about two months and all of the experience was awful. The service was extremely slow, the rare steak was well done, out of baked potatoes at 6:30 on a Saturday night...it goes on and on. Full disclosure I do not give five stars but the brass door killed it tonight we have beautiful prime rib cooked to perfection and one of our party ordered the liver and onions he says it is the best he's had in his entire life! Food was mediocre, bread was good. Salad was wilted and chicken was dry. The French dip was very expensive but not worth it.

I had the worst experience at brass door last week. I have never had a bad meal there in over 50 years. Always have the prime rib rare. First time to done. Second time to done! Meanwhile the other person I was dining with was already done with dinner. After second time I asked what the heck. Waitress then tells me all three roasts were medium! What the hell! She was very apologetic, but.... She asked if I would like some kind of steak. Against my better judgment I asked for the ribeye. I just had it boxed up and brought home. Terrible and tough. I brought it back the next day and asked for the manager or the owner I was told she was in the office and would be out shortly. I waited for over 20 minutes only to be told she wasn't there. The hostess then called the owner and the owner told her to tell me there was nothing she could do!! The woman didn't even have the decency to speak to me on the phone or in person! Danny would have never, never treated any customer in that manner! I am truly disappointed and disgusted! I am so going to miss the wonderful staff and what used to be wonderful food. It pains me to write this as I have been a customer for many years and loved this old school spot. Unfortunately, new ownership has run this once local gem into the ground in a hurry. Both the service and food have taken a big hit. To be fair to the staff, it appears that at least some of the service problems are due to being under staffed. However, the new hires appear to have no waitstaff experience and no one teaching them the basics. There are no excuses for the food. This once solid establishment now turns out food that is an embarrassment. Each of my last three trips here have been progressively worse. My last meal consisted of medium rare prime rib that was well done, not crusted, and tasteless. The creamed spinach was also tasteless. My wife's risotto was a scoop of white rice! I'd love a reason to return, but it won't happen with this group in this state of disarray. read more

I used to go to the Brass Door ' back in the day ' ( mid 1970's through 1980's) when it truly was a great spot for prime rib and other classic entrees of good steak houses and classic service. It began to decline in the early 90's and we just stopped going. about 2 weeks ago my husband and I ventured back at the request of a friend who wanted to stop for some drinks and appetizers after s ball game Saturday late afternoon. so this review is based only on our experience at the bar. the one bartender was busy with a good size crowd so I didn't expect fast service, but not only was it excessively slow, it was unfriendly and arrogant. they only serve the basic drinks so don't expect to find anything like a moscow mule or even a mint julep. we had oysters rockefeller and calamari. the oysters were overdone with cheese snd spinach and the calamari was limply fried and lacked flavor. the menu for dinner looked okay, but not anywhere near to what it offered in days gone by. i dont think we will be back. read more

My fiancé and I have been looking for our go to steakhouse since we moved to Dublin. Well we have now found our spot!! First, I love how it has the small town feel. I always love to promote small business owners. Secondly, the food was literally amazing! We had the calamari to start off with, and it was made to perfection. I had their prime rib (that creamed spinach I have been dreaming about, it is THAT good!), my fiancé had a New York Steak which was amazing, our friend had a Filet Mignon (he said it was the best steak he has ever had!) and then our other friend had their salmon special which she absolutely loved as well! Finally the service was fantastic! We are all about customer service and the waitress we had was just amazing, she has worked there for I believe she said 19 years! Friends and I usually enjoy trekking here from Livermore and hitting the bar for drink or two before dining but lately the food and service has been extremely hit or miss...last night, the busboys were on their cell phones most of the night so our harried waitress had to supply ice water...my seafood combo was absolutely massacred in the deep fryer and my tiny side of cole slaw wouldn't have satisfied a mouse...and why are we no longer offered a potato and/or veggies with our meals? So went to this spot yesterday and seriously the ONLY reason I gave 2 stars was bc of the service. The food was horrible..do not eat the oysters!! Looked pre shucked and stored in the fridge till ordered. People have literally died from eating bad oysters people! The "fresh fish"of the day way a clearly frozen breaded fish patty..tough and not juicy at all. Was supposed to be grilled?!?! So that two items sent back. Then the prime rib with "sauteed" mushrooms..haha what a joke. They were canned mushrooms that tasted like the smell of old funk. The meat was luke warm and the creamed spinage was absolutely disgusting. I dont usually yelp unless it was a great experience or a bad experience. This one takes the cake. Spent 55 bux and I truly feel duped. The brass door has been around for a long time so I hear..and needs Gordon Ramsay to slap some sense into the kitchen. I feel like they need to shut down, revamp the menu and try again. I think they are used to folks paying 30 bux for a frozen fish patty..I'm so disappointed that I may actually fast for a few days..just water to cleanse out that crap. SO VERY DISAPPOINTED!!! Let me start off by saying how much we LOVED the old Brass Door! We wouldn't consider ourselves regulars, but when we have friends visiting or a special occasion we would go to Brass Door. I even compared their Prime Rib to the House of Prime Rib in SF! So about tonight we had... Calamari: was decent, the color was a little light, but the taste was there. Prime Rib: which didn't have the seasoned rim you would expect and the cut just didn't seem right. I mean, the old prime rib I could cut with a fork, but this one was rough and odd. Like a cheaper version of the prime rib cut. That may not be the worse part... I am 99% sure that my "BAKED" potato was MICROWAVED!!!!!! It was one of the most disgusting baked potatoes I have EVER had! I had 1 bite, it was gritty and had the weirdest texture. Also they use to bring a train of bacon bit, chives, sour cream, and whipped butter for your potato, now it's a little thing of sour cream and little wrap cubed butter (kind you get when you get bread as other places) Rib Eye: Good marks, but the cut looked weird, it was almost 2 mini steaks... there was no salt, no pepper, absolutely NO seasoning! My boyfriend had to put A1 on his $40 steak!! YES, it was THAT BAD!! Service: it took over 15 mins for our refills of water or ice tea... SO TERRIBLE! BOTTOM LINE: CHEAP MEAT (not worth what you pay) New owners must be trying to save a buck or two. SAVE YOUR MONEY!!! Last night we had dinner here w/ the extended family. Service was 5 stars. Patty was warm, welcoming and very accommodating to the varies needs/demands of our multi-generational group. We started w/ a calamari appetizer, which was good, not great. The salads were fine. I won't go into what everyone ordered, but will just say that my fried chicken was 2 stars at most, heavy on breading, which I peeled off, and light on the meat. So after dropping the daughter off at a friends house, the husband and I decided to grab a bite here after securing a quick reservation via Open Table. We were seated at a 2 top against a wall just past the bar area. The table was fine had it not been right up against a kitchen wall where banging was taking place and it made it hard to concentrate on anything but the noise coming from the kitchen and for me the other patrons around. Our waitress was not engaging and seemed a bit miffed at having to wait on a couple as opposed to a larger table. We ordered- husband the shrimp and crab Louie and I decided on the fried chicken ( a staple here and one of the oldest menu items). Our food was delivered by someone other than our waitress. I started on the wing (my favorite part) and it was a bit greasy but ok. The mashed potatoes were a bit bland (I noticed everyone using their salt shaker on these) and the veggies were a bit lukewarm. This was all fine until I noticed that there was a large pool of pink juice on my plate. I cut into the chicken thigh to pink and then the breast to more pink. I waited a bit to see if our waitress would come by to check on us to no avail. I just ate the veg and the potatoes that I could and the big chicken pieces just sat while my husband finished his dinner. Finally when he was done, our waitress finally reappeared asking if I wanted a box. When I told her my chicken was undercooked, she asked if the rest was ok (the wing, the veg, the potatoes) and told me I could just take the big pieces home to cook myself for the next day. SORRY lady- I like my chicken cold in the morning. Anyway, I was a bit taken aback by the callous response to serving a customer undercooked chicken. I told her I didn't want to take it and she offered to have them cook it longer there. I declined and she left only to come back a little bit later offering a free dessert. I declined and asked for the check which came without anything taken off the bill. Thanks for leaving a bad taste from food to service in my mouth. I was very sad to not have old school warm service along wth the vibe here. Serving undercooked chicken is a big no no and should have been taken more seriously. I doubt we will be back. read more

For the second time in 6 weeks, we went to the Brass Door expecting a really good prime rib dinner, one like we had become accustom to over the years. We arrived between 6 pm and 6:30 pm as we try to be sure we can get really rare meat. As usual I asked the server if the prime rib was available extra rare and was assured yes. Once again when the food arrived the prime rib was medium to medium-well. It was dry and hardly pink. When I asked about the meat I was told that was the rarest pieces they had. Oh so disappointing. I understand the restaurant was sold earlier in 2016, too bad the current owners are letting the establishment slide in quality and service. I was pretty amazed when the server offered to switch the prime rib for ground sirloin, as if I wanted a piece of hamburger for dinner. Most likely we will not be returning unless someone can assure us that improvements have been made. I guess that's why the restaurant had five tables of patrons in the dining room. read more

I came here with a colleague yesterday for an appreciation lunch and left feeling not so appreciated. What's up with that, Brass Door? Upon entering the restaurant I noticed that we were probably the youngest people in the restaurant...wanting to make no assumptions but most of the people there appeared to be over the age of 40, and were probably regulars to the restaurant. The restaurant is huge, and we arrived a little after the lunchtime rush so it should've been easy for us to get fast service, right? Not so much. We spent most of our time waiting. Here's how it went down: 1) Host sat us at our table with menus. 1 minute passes. 2) Busboy brings us water. 2 minutes pass. 3) Waitress comes to take our drink order. 4 minutes pass. 4) Waitress comes back to take food order. We haven't decided on main course, but gave her our appetizer order: Combination Seafood Louie, in essence, a large salad with lots of crab, three jumbo shrimp, a mound of cocktail shrimp, tomatoes, olives, a hard-boiled egg, and pickled jalapeno peppers. 5 minutes pass. 5) At no point were we offered bread, but the waitress comes back to take our lunch order. I order the shrimp salad sandwich on wheat with fries and my colleagues ordered the french dip and fries. 5 minutes pass. 6) Waitress comes back with appetizer, asks if we need anything, we say no, and she walks away. At this point we notice about the bread and try to flag someone down, anyone down. 3 minutes pass. 7) We get the attention of the busboy who brings us bread. 6 minutes pass. The waitress comes back with our meals. I ask for sour cream for my fries. The busboy brought it back a minute later. 1 minute. 8) We ate our food, the fries were good but the shrimp salad sandwich was not spectacular. At one time the shrimp were probably frozen because they were completely flavorless, and the dressing on the sandwich didn't help. My colleague liked the juiciness of the prime rib in the sandwich, but thought the flavor was bland. I put my plate to the side and waited to be offered a dessert menu. 20 minutes. 9) We both finished the waitress comes by with the check. What? No dessert offering? Waitress at other stations offered the patrons dessert. and we were offered the check...hmmmmm. 5 minutes 10) The host comes by and asks if we were satisfied and if we needed anything else. My colleague mentioned that we weren't offered dessert. He goes to get us menues. 3 minutes 11) The host comes back to get our orders. My colleague wanted nothing, I ordered dutch apple pie a la mode. I think he sensed the frustration of my colleague. 4 minutes 12) The waitress comes back with an amended bill including the pie I ordered, and said she would take the check when we received our order. At this point I feel uncomfortable and want to leave. 4 more minutes. 13) The host comes back with my pie and a slice of cheesecake, on the house, for my colleague. My pie was really good up until the last three bites, where it began to taste more and more bitter, like baking soda. 5 minutes 14) We wait for the check to be paid so we could leave. 3 minutes 15) Check paid, we leave unnoticed. I don't know if it's a generational thing but 1 hour and 12 minutes seems a bit long for a lunch as simple as ours. Considering we were offered no bread, no drinks refills (not even water), and no dessert you would've thought we would've been out in half that time. This experience makes me, seriously, not want to go back. Which is maybe the point? I don't know. read more

Typically a successful restaurant is one that the owner is nice to their patrons and apologizes if a mistake happens - because we all know mistakes can happen. This woman is unfriendly and greedy. I don't know if I'll ever be able to order anything else again. I had the half one and it was excellent. Also, thank-you to the yelper who recommended their blue cheese dressing. It was great on their side salad. Others liked the prime rib meal, the pasta primavera, and the halibut. Will definitely recommend this place to friends for lunch too. I don't enjoy writing bad reviews, but I'm so disappointed. I've heard great things about the Brass Door from family members who frequent this establishment. So, a couple Saturdays ago my husband and I decided to make the trek from San Francisco. I can sum our experience up with one word, confusion. We had no idea who our waitress was.....could have been a red-headed lady, she took our order and that was literally the last we saw of her. No one was paying attention to even ask a question, or get another much needed beverage. One lady was running around all panicky....didn't want to bother her. We left on edge from all the disorder. Prime Rib "French Dip" Sandwich is to die for... Rib-eye was hearty though was lacking a bit of seasoning. Wifee likes the fried gulf prawns but loves the fries. (which I must admit ARE pretty damn good). Gave the clam chowder & the oysters rockafeller a shot but neither were a hit in my book. (chowder was mehhh & I don't even recall how the oyster tasted anymore). Waitress F'd up our order as well (kids 4 & 6) were supposed to split a dish & she ended up charging for massive individual portions that would've been sufficient for a growing teenage linebacker. We all did however unanimously enjoy the garlic bread which is always on point. 5 stars for the DIP ALONE & a solid 3 should you sit in-house. Our waitress during this visit wasn't very helpful (couldn't even give me a damn entree suggestion), f'd up the order & food took FOREVER to come... All in all, we'll more than likely be back though $100 for 2 adults (entrees only, no alcohol) & 2 kiddies seems a bit steep. We left wishing we would've gone to Ruth Chris's or given Izzy's a try. After a dissapointing first visit to the Outpost, my lover suggested we try the Brass Door across the street. This place is good vibes, that old school resturant atmosphere your parents took you to growing up. Mostly an older crowd where everyone seemed to know and enjoy each other. We made our way to the bar to sample some wings and compare to the wings we just had across the street. Wings were better, service was better, bathroom was clean.
