I've never encountered a restaurant that went from a 5-star experience to a 1-star experience from a first visit to a second visit, but this place managed to pull it off. I took my wife here last year and she loved the place so much that she couldn't wait to come back. She literally called the restaurant "perfection" in her own Yelp Review. Of course, that meant we were going to make repeat trips here, even though with all the restaurants we have around Houston, I prefer to continue trying new venues. This year was a complete 180 from last year. They seemed to be either overbooked or understaffed, probably both. We were waiting a while for our table, but a trendy place during Houston Restaurant Weeks having delays isn't surprising, even if we had a reservation. The waiter apologized for the delay, saw we were looking at the HRW menu, and took all three course orders at once. We really thought that it would speed things up, but the exact opposite thing happened. It took well over 30 minutes to get our first course, which was the berries parfait. It's literally just yogurt, berries, granola, and honey in a bowl. Unlike last year, where the ingredients were carefully portioned, it seemed like this year they were all just hastily dumped into a bowl and brought out to the table. Regardless, it still tasted pretty good. About 50 minutes after we ordered, we asked the waiter about the status of our entrees. He let us know that the kitchen was behind. He sounded frustrated. We never saw him again; he completely disappeared and while we thought we saw him around, he never stopped by our table. We proceeded to see random people running items from the kitchen out to various tables. They weren't the waiters covering those tables. I'm not sure if they were kitchen staff, managers, dishwashers, or what. They all seemed frazzled and rushed. Of course, none of the food was coming to our table, but we clearly won't the only ones encountering delays and poor service. At about 70 minutes, and now no waiter, we gave up and went to the host table. We asked to cancel the rest of our order and offered to pay for what we'd already received. The host went to get a manager, but another lady came out letting us know that the manager was tied up facilitating in the kitchen and was trying to offer alternatives to us leaving. My wife was ready to leave, but I saw one of the random employees drop two plates at the table we'd abandoned. I suggested to her that it might be better to just finish our already-delayed meal rather than waste another hour going to another restaurant, ordering, and waiting for food. The lady at the front said she'd "take care of the bill." The food that was brought out was a disappointed. The duck confit was clearly rushed through the cooking process, but was still pretty good. The shrimp and grits were a complete miss, though. They clearly didn't have time to get the flavors they wanted, so they just dumped a bunch of garlic butter into the dish and called it a day. My wife couldn't finish her meal so we swapped entrees midway since the excess butter was making her miserable. The same lady (I'm guessing an assistant manager) kept offering us drinks. We made it clear we didn't want mimosas, so they started offering coffee. I don't think they were intending to come off pushy, but after a miserable 80+ minutes, it felt that way. Finally, we agreed to a couple of coffees with dessert just so they'd stop suggesting stuff and let us enjoy our food. The desserts were... okay. Just like the appetizers and entree, they seemed to be hastily assembled and lacking the flavors we'd expect. My wife seemed suitably happy with the Strawberries Melba for dessert, but my chocolate pot de creme was... bland. I've worked in hospitality before and I know that "I'll take care of the bill" means different things at different places, but this is the first time I've ever encountered-- as an employee or as a customer-- where that meant we were issued a bill for the full amount of the food we ordered, despite the fact that we nearly walked out due to the horrendous service. The only items that were "comped" were the coffees that we didn't even want. My wife had previously made it clear to me that she wanted to come back here regularly, so as we were walking back to our car, I suggested this was just an extreme off day and next time would be better. This time, she made it clear that she'd be okay if we never came back again. Honestly, I can't blame her. I'm leaving the second star on here because the first experience was so good. My friends and I made a reservation for the Houston Restaurant Weeks menu for 10:45am. We were seated upon arrival and were given the HRWs menu with the appetizer, main course and dessert. I ordered the parfait for appetizer, duck confit for main course and creme brûlée for dessert. They also provided bread at the table. Our waiter was pretty good, though once the restaurant got busy, we had some trouble flagging him down in between main course and dessert. The first two courses came outs relatively quickly with enough time in between each to enjoy and chat. The dessert took some time, and the waiter did apologize for the wait. The food was delicious, specifically the main course and dessert. The granola to yogurt ratio was very off; it was a sprinkle of granola to like 1/3 cup of unsweetened, plain yogurt. Service was great but the food was mediocre at best. My wife had the lemon sole - barely edible. I had the steak frites and it was ok but not very hot. Our guests tried to order a beer - sold out of the brand he wanted. Then for desert vanilla ice cream was sold out - walk around the corner to the grocery store and buy some vanilla cream. I was also pleasantly surprised by the selection of delicious complementary pastries we were given prior to the actual courses. The way they combined things such as yogurt with berries and honey created a perfect mix of taste and pleasure. I felt like the girl in romance novels who moaned when they ate a dish because, before that, I thought that was stupid. No, man, this was Mmmmmmm good. I had never tasted so much good food in my life. And did I tell you how beautiful and refined this place was? It's not like a formal gown restaurant, but man, you gotta wear your Sunday best or your cutest date outfit because that place is too cute to be boring in weekend yoga pants and t-shirts. Came here for Houston Restaurant Weeks for the first time ever and did not even realize at this restaurant was here because we are always at Discovery Green or the Toyota Center. My friend wanted to try French food and this had good reviews so we showed up for lunch with a reservation around 11 and there really wasn't anybody there but at 12 it started filling up quickly. She had a service animal and they're very accommodating, but they also put us in the back room so that there wasn't as much movement to disturb the animal. Our waiter was fantastic and made great recommendations. The rolls that came out for appetizers and before the main course were hot and fresh and that perfectly crisp outside. For appetizers, my friend got the crabcakes which were delicious and I got the escargot which were super tender and so flavorful. For lunch, my friend got the mushroom risotto which had so many mushrooms in it and I feel like a lot of places fall short when they say mushroom anything because it's just regular creamy mushroom mushrooms, and then whatever the dishes, but this had at least four different varieties of mushrooms and it was pretty much mostly mushrooms with risotto, which was amazing. I had the linguine Alfredo with the meat and it was so rich that I couldn't finish it, but it was also incredibly tasty. I brought it for lunch the next day and it pretty much burned a hole in the paper plate because all of the sauces are made from scratch and French style is with pure butter, but it was just as good heated back up. Had crème brûlée for dessert and they hit the mark with that too. Parking can be tricky and you should park on the street close to it if that's what you want. We parked at Phoenicia , but we were actually going to go shopping at Phoenicia after so we didn't violate any of the honor system. I cannot wait to go back because it was so good. read more

My first thought regarding Brasserie du Parc is: this café is perhaps cosplaying as a French dining establishment, and kind of misses the mark authenticity-wise. Nonetheless, I had a good experience dining here with a friend one afternoon. Étoile Cuisine et Bar is my favorite French restaurant in Houston thus far...I remember ordering vichyssoise and escargot from Étoile. The chef there, Philippe Verpiand, also was once affiliated with Brasserie du Parc. Maybe that's what's missing at Brasserie: a real French person running the kitchen. Haha. I thought the dining room was much smaller than I thought it would be. The posters in the bar were cool, but to me, that doesn't quite establish ambience. Elsewhere throughout the restaurant, I didn't think the decor was memorable. In fact, it was rather basic. The lunch and cocktail, in my opinion, were quite good. Parking is more of a challenge. The restaurant's atmosphere was very nice and you can definitely tell it was French inspired. My only issue was that it was hot in there. Downtown parking is either street meter or super expensive lots. We had to drive around for a while to find a street parking. The restaurant was cute, felt like you stepped into a cafe in Paris. Hi- I came to this restaurant happy to get an authentic French brasserie experience. I ordered a ribeye steak with a sauce poivre. Very basic for a French brasserie. They served me a totally different sauce that tasted sour and horrible. I was shocked that this would be their version of sauce poivre. By the time I was able to get their attention, and something closer to a proper French pepper sauce, I was done eating that ribeye. Under those circumstances I was still charged a petty $2 extra for a bit of chopped garlic on the side. I paid the bill, quietly told them about the disappointing experience and left. The bar side of the restaurant seemed more updated and brighter. We had a lovely night here, they kept the wine and water refills coming and the food courses timed out perfectly. We had an amazing brunch experience here. Atmosphere is superb on a sunny Sunday morning after strolling through Discovery Green, it's relaxing and lovely, quiet and peaceful. We sat next to the window, so we were able to enjoy a sunbath while doing some people watching. Parking is free on Sundays for downtown street parking. Service is impeccable, staff are welcoming, thoughtful and attentive. Location is so central, we also went to Phoenicia afterwards to have a nice walk in the store and grab some unique items. This was a delightful Houston Restaurant Weeks experience! I stopped by on a Saturday for brunch with a few friends. Fellow Yelper Chris W. had tried this spot before and had rave reviews, so I figured we should check it out. First off, this restaurant is in the heart of Downtown Houston, which means confusing one way roads and parking. I had trouble finding street parking and had to go a bit further away. Parking is probably an issue on weekends especially. We made a reservation in advance and found the restaurant modestly full. The interior is beautifully decorated for a nice brunch with friends, a more romantic setting, or a work meal. Our server quickly greeted us with the HRW menu and had several recommendations which we appreciated. I opted for the burrata as my first course, followed by the duck confit, and the profiteroles for dessert. The burrata was a solidly tasty dish which I quite enjoyed. The salad included a delicious dressing and strawberries which paired together very well. I also sampled my friends' lox and bagels and scargots which were also tasty. The lox in particular was a rather large dish as a first course, with excellent flavors. Next came the duck, which was wonderful. So wonderful, that our whole table opted for it as the main course! The crispiness of the duck was perfect and I thoroughly enjoyed the potatoes. I found the sauce underneath a bit on the salty side, however, overall the dish was a home run for me. Not so much so with the profiteroles, unfortunately. While I enjoyed the pistachio flavor of the ice cream, it melted very quickly with the warm chocolate sauce and became a soupy mixture midway into eating it. I did not finish the dessert. I sampled my friends' crème brûlée which was excellent with a lovely crunchy exterior and creaminess underneath. I would opt for the crème brûlée next time. The portion of mussels was perfect for me, and the steak was pretty big for my partner who eats a lot. Both tasted pretty good. I would get them both again. We both selected options from a set menu. Overall the food was decent but not outstanding. I got the French onion soup to start. The broth was lacking in flavor in my opinion. I prefer the beef broth taste whereas this was lighter in flavor. My mom got the mushroom ravioli which were great. For the main, I had the beef bourguignon which was a bit disappointing. I've had it before and enjoy the meal but this version had an overwhelming sweet flavor. My mom got the coq au vin which was much better. To finish, we got a crepe and creme brûlée. They forgot the bananas in my mom's crepe and the service became slower and slower as the meal went on. Appetizer and entree were excellent. The pot de creme was a bit sweet and not decadent & rich enough because it was made with milk chocolate and I prefer dark chocolate for this dessert. I have been calling for the last half hour to order a dessert to go. I was first hung up on. Called back. Another gentleman said he was going to grab someone else to take my order. The phone was placed down, so I could hear all the restaurant noise, no one ever picked back up. I finally hung up. And called back again. But obviously the phone was still off the hook as no one ever came back to take my order. I was trying to place a large dessert order for a party occurring at a nearby food hall, but neither of the two gentlemen I spoke with prioritized my order, as it was never taken. read more
