    French toast
    Tamara F.

We tried Toulouse for brunch and we thought it was pretty good. I ordered the French toast and it was tasty, My husband had the omelette and he said it was good and we shared a side of bacon. We sat outside and did some people watching. Our waiter was nice and attentive. Overall, it was a good experience but a bit pricey, but that's kinda expected based on the area.

Its been awhile since my last review. After the previous experience many years ago, Toulouse has more than made up for itself. When the weather is nice outside which is most of the time except in the heat of summer time the patio and the covered patio area, this place is a great place to come. Service is always on point, food maybe not quite the level of some of the other high end restaurants but the food is pretty close, and all the other intangibles make up the difference. With that said the food is very good. Highly recommend their burger, lobster bisque, salad louis, soupe d'oignon, to name a few. You get reasonable size portions rather than other place which seem to maybe cut corners. Lunch time and happy hour times this place draws a lot of folks who shop in the R.O. district and also evenings too. Come during the day time or evening, you won't be disappointed. And its a great place to take in the people watching experience too.

    Such a good salad.

Another outdoor patio gem! This patio is always busy so we decided we needed to see what the fuss was about. We ordered deviled eggs, split a salad and my husband enjoyed the lobster. Everything we ordered was good and service was attentive. We will definitely be back.

First time here. We loved the outdoor vibes and decided to give it a try. We browsed the menu and noticed a lot was seafood. However there is a small brunch section and decided to dine in. Girls brunch it is! Cappuccino was good, definitely hit the spot for coffee needs. As we continued to chat we went ahead and ordered food. We ordered the burger and it was pretty ok. Nothing major, it did come with avocado and bacon which really helped. Outdoor seating was phenomenal. Weather was perfect and even a live person was singing. Santa did come by and visit @ the tables. As we continued to chat we ordered drinks. Went for a mimosa, pretty standard nothing major but satisfying. Als ordered the Chanel drink and it was refreshing and flavorful. We asked for dessert but nothing catches our eyes. We continued to enjoyed our time until we were told we had to leave due to a reservation. Overall the place was good, weather was perfect and the vibes were great. Will be coming back.

Service was a bit spotty. They would clear our table but then forget to replace the silverware. There was a main waiter and other people helping. Food was well paced. My favorite dish was the lobster bisque. Smooth, creamy - could use a bit more lobster but my husband thought it was a good amount. The petit gougeres were a miss. They had a very odd texture and dry. My husband loved the burger but I found it plain and unremarkable. Loved the fries. We had to flag down our waiter to get our check. Decent lunch. Not terrible or amazing.

Came here Friday night arriving around 6:30pm. What a glorious evening for Al fresco dining on Toulouse's courtyard/patio. Everyone apparently had the same idea as the dining room was near empty and the patio packed. Service was great from drinks to dinner. My lobster risotto was excellent my wife's surf and turf special was great. Nice cook on the steak (Pittsburgh medium rare). We were celebrating a friend's birthday and dessert soufflé and crème brûlée both hit well. Nights like this are exceptional. Take advantage while you can as we don't get many in Houston.

This place was really extravagant and nice.. very high-end so the prices reflect that. I will say the taste of the food does not surpass phenomenal. However it was still good .im all for a bougie experience so I did still enjoy my salmon and lobster Mac . I also had couscous and it was very light , light flavor but gave a herby taste. Salmon was cooked to perfection . I had no left overs Service is a 10/10. Perdo was awesome . I enjoyed everything from his service to being very swift with Cleaning the table . Ambiance is beautiful.. river oaks is beautiful so I expected high end . Furniture is so nice.. Now outdoors they play music and it's really nice to hear the tunes . Makes you feel like you're not in Houston ! Greta job . I will come back next time for breakfast

They usually have live music outside and it's just beautiful. The service is very quick and attentive although there are many tables to attend to. We got a bottle of wine and shared the cheese plate, zucchini chips and truffle fries. Then we shared the apple tarte tatin and Mille feuille which were both very light and delicious. Would definitely love to come back!

Lobster caviar tacos and French 77

The atmosphere at Toulouse is beautiful, and the food was great. The caviar was a highlight and the scenery did not disappoint. However, my overall experience was not enjoyable, and that falls entirely on my server Estaban. I came here to treat myself to a solo lunch and celebrate a recent promotion. I was looking forward to this, taking my time, and fully present in the moment. What I did not expect was to be shocked by the level of service given the upscale setting and pricing. My server never introduced himself. I had to ask him his name. I had to ask him for recommendations. I had to ask him to walk me through the menu. He extended none of the basic courtesies I watched him offer every other table around me. When he brought bread, he slammed it on the table. When I asked for a straw for my French 77, he responded with and I quote "For what? For this?" He looked like he simply did not want to wait on me. Which is insane given where we are. I came in alone and was also the only person of color in the dining room. I don't make that observation lightly, but I'd be dishonest if I didn't name it. The contrast in how I was treated versus the guests around me was stark and undeniable. While I looked forward into ordering more than just an appetizer in a drink, and due to the service, I decided not to continue on with ordering an entree. Toulouse, you have a beautiful restaurant. But a dining experience is only as good as the service, and this server made it clear that my money and my presence were not equally welcome. I would not recommend and I will not be returning.

Came here for a birthday, but don't expect any special service or freebies for birthdays-- even if you state it on your reservation. Otherwise the restaurant is very French elegance. Outdoor seating with live music from 1-4pm on Sundays. If it's too hot, then can sit outdoors but in a covered/shaded area with fans. We chose to sit indoors which was still fairly warm. Our server was very attentive and always made sure to check in on us. He was a bit aggressive with the water pouring though and got water all over my shoes when it spilled on the table and dripped off, but didn't even notice. As for the food-- everything was excellent! Espresso martini- 5/5 bit overpriced but one of the best ones I've had. Truffle deviled eggs- 5/5 never knew truffles would pair so perfectly with deviled eggs. The creaminess and texture work very well. Rockefeller oysters- 5/5 came with half dozen. Bits of bacon was great Lobster roll- 5/5 came on brioche bun and some kind of lemon sauce which made the lobster taste light and refreshing. Scallop truffle risotto- 5/5 scallops perfectly seared and cooked. And the truffle risotto was perfection! This was a special. Wish we could have heard the live music from inside. But we absolutely loved our brunch at Toulouse.

I stopped in on Saturday night and was able to sit outside. They had a singer who sang jazz and classic music. We had oysters, lobster bisque, the seafood tower, beef bourguignon and champagne. The beef bourguignon is not a traditional preparation (I think they use a short rib) so it wasn't exactly what I was expecting. It was good, but again, different that what what I expected. I did not enjoy the lobster bisque. It was bland. For being a busy Saturday night, I felt that the waitress was attentive and we did not have to wait very long when we needed help.

Started off with lobster bisque. I can say this probably the least favorite item. We had way better lobster bisque from other restaurants. It lacking a lot of flavor and sherry 1/5 stars Escargot: 3/5 stars came out hot and sizzling. Favor bland, taste nothing but parsley and butter. Duck Confit: 3.5/5 stars Duck was crispy and greasy. Very fatty than usual. I had to peel the skin off. The sauce taste like duck reduction gravy. Didnt taste any orange or truffle . Souffle: 4/5 stars, this was best part of meal. Overall 3/5 stars. Dont not if it worth coming back.

This is a great spot for a Sunday brunch! You'll get great food, drinks, service and overall vibes. Everyone comes in their Sunday best! They have a ton of outdoor seating if you want to enjoy live music from 1-4pm. They have fans outside and the trees provide some shade but be prepared to embrace the Houston heat if you want to enjoy the music. If not, there's plenty of indoor seating but you won't hear any live music. We got the truffle deviled eggs. The truffle paired very well with the creaminess of the eggs. The Rockefeller oysters were not on the menu but the waiter said they can make it upon request. There were pieces of bacon on top with the classic spinach and cheese combo. It had good flavor but the oysters were a bit small. The lobster roll was served in a brioche bun with a beurre blanc sauce. This was a great dish to have in this hot weather since it was served with cold lobster and had a very light refreshing taste. Valet parking is available up front. There's also a parking garage right next to the restaurant that's free and has plenty of parking.

Is this the most overrated restaurant in Houston?…read more After being on my "To Try" list for an unacceptable amount of time, I finally made my way over to Nancy's Hustle. I was lucky enough to snag a seat at the bar with no reservation. I arrived about 30 minutes into open and there was already a wait list. I suggest getting there early or making a reservation if you're not a solo diner. The interior is nice and intimate, with low lighting that doesn't work well for photos but definitely for a cozy dinner. The set up and music reminded me a little bit of 93 Til due to the decor. I started with the duck dumplings and the Nancy cakes. I wasn't expecting it but they offer half orders which is great for a solo diner who wants to try multiple things. Both items were delicious. The dumplings had a nice savory sauce with some texture from the peanuts. These were great but probably my bottom of the list which is saying something. I would only say this because they reminded me a lot of the hot oil wontons from duck and bao so at that price point, you might as well get more. The Nancy cakes were pillowy and savory and made a great vessel for honey butter and roe. I even used a bit to dunk into the leftover dumpling sauce. I suggest eating these as soon as they hit your table. I was trying to savor my bites but the cakes benefit a lot from being nice and hot. It's not the most ground breaking dish in the world but it's done well and I would definitely call it a must order. I could have eating a full order of it alone. My main dishes is where my mind was blown. I went with the roast chicken and half order of the gem lettuce salad and fries. This might be the best roast chicken I've ever had in Houston. Chicken can be a hit or a miss because sometimes, there just isn't much flavor. This was absolutely not the case here. The chicken was juicy and seasoned to the core. It even heated up well as left overs without being dry. The chili sauce on the bottom was flavor intensified and as I swiped my chicken through the pools of sauce, I thought to myself "overrated where?!". The gem salad caught me by surprise. I'm not one to stay away from a salad at a restaurant because they typically do them better than you can make at home . Nancy's Hustle solidified this opinion. The salad was wonderfully briney and savory. The lettuce was crisp and covered in the herby shallot dressing that grabbed my taste buds. Topped with anchovies and pancetta for a nice salty touch. So so good. The fries were the perfect side, crisp and not too potatoey (yes this is a thing). I traded in the aoli for some ketchup because that's just my thing. I concluded this wonderful dining experience with a dessert. Buttermilk ice cream with cornflakes, black berries and honey butter cookie. This dessert was a lesson in balance. Every component was present , sweet, salty, crunchy, cool. Each bite had something new to offer and combined into a perfectly executed dessert. As a cocktail, I tried their tropical drink. I don't remember what it was called but I know I could have drank about 7 of those. This was a great dining experience. I think when things get popular, sometimes we feel the need to be contrarians with our experiences. That wasn't the case for me. Nancy's Hustle has earned its popularity and I'll definitely be back

My favorite Main was deff the Pepperoni Pizza (the crust was crispy and bread itself was chewy as well, the tiny pepperoni were tasty as well. I'd just come back for the pizza itself). My other favorite was the CAVATELLI ALLA BOLOGNESE (by far my favorite pasta shape of the night and the texture was perf. Very fresh and made in house. The sauce was great as well and paired well). This cucumber based cocktail was very refreshing! I also had a Clover Club which I enjoyed (I love the egg white)! Fried Deviled Egg - I opted to add caviar for an additional $8. It was good, but I just really prefer traditional deviled eggs without breading on them. Market Fish - Absolutely delicious! Drinks: I did a So Fresh So Clean because I'm predictable and I loved it the first time. I also had a Negroni and it was really good. Butter Burgers: It normally comes with two, but Chris was nice and brought out a 3rd burger so that we could each have one. I enjoyed the French onion flavor in the beef, but the burger was too buttery for my taste. Crispy Potatoes - Very good with great flavor. Mushroom Empanada - I didn't try any, but my friends enjoyed them. Hanger Steak - It took 40 minutes for the steak to be brought out and unfortunately, one steak was overcooked while the other was undercooked. I tried a bite of the overcooked steak and the flavor was there. The steak was tender enough for my preference. Market Fish - Red Snapper. It was a larger portion, but the flavor wasn't as good as the first time. 3/6/26-Michelin Man? More like Michelin...maaaaaaan…read more.. In good Mel and the Doctor fashion, a rough week equates to "let's go have a great night." We get dressed up and venture to Le Jardinier. While we were super excited and ready for a great Friday evening, we checked in with an unwelcoming hostess. Mind you, this is our first impression since we have never been to any of the locations. He asked the hostess if we would be seated close or after our reservation time (that would determine if we would have a drink at the bar), we received a condescending toned response of "you can have a seat and I will work on getting a status update on that." Duly noted. A few minutes later we were told we could go to the bar to only then be escorted to the table. So we will look past that "weirdness" of initial service and get ready for a stiff drink...the bartenders know what they are doing! Martinis were the name of the game and they were perfect. Just perfect. The prefixe and wine pairing was the game plan. But before the fun stuff, came the bread service. Bread was more than bread, it was warm savory pillows with the perfect butter. Made a crumbly mess while tearing up the bread basket, expected table crumbler service, after, nothing. For Michelin, we expected the fine dining cleaning in between each course. The service was odd, and the servers seemed cold. The kanpachi and the scallop of the prefixe were Michelin. Overall, we might give it another shot, maybe it was a bad day...but still grateful to get in last minute due to rodeo season. Let me know your experience!

There is a small parking lot available for guests at the Bistro and for the Menil behind the building. There was plenty of parking available when we arrived. I was the first to arrive and as soon as I walked to the host stand, the host had time to say hello but then the phone rang. I was discouraged that he asked me to wait while he took the phone call and unfortunately it took several minutes. Once he hung up, he seated me promptly. The afternoon tea is lovely - you receive either italian soda (lemon or raspberry) or a glass of champagne first. Next, our food arrived and a little while later, we ordered our tea. All of the drinks were delicious and served at great temperatures (hot and cold, depending). The food was also delicious and the perfect portions for the occasion. At times, it was hard to get in touch with our waiter and service was a bit slow, but overall a good experience and I would go again for afternoon tea.

After entering, you are immediately greeted like family in a relaxing environment but with top notch food. It was my friend's bday so we celebrated with complimentary bubbles which was a nice touch. We enjoyed a large portion of their limited/rotating menu that did not disappoint. The tuna was my favorite. 10/10. A very extensive, higher end wine list complemented the meal nicely. Definitely need reservations -- book as early as possible. Seating is very limited especially for larger parties. Parking --- street parking around the block. Wasn't too difficult. Definitely a must try!

We made reservations several days in advance and still were only able to get patio seats. The vibe of the place is so Houston. It's a really nice restaurant - inside is small and cozy, decorated beautifully. The patio only has 2 tables but it's elegant. And it looks out at the highway, billboards, downtown, and abandoned homeless encampments. During dinner, we had a bachelorette party bus park beside us and a couple shirtless guys come up from the bayou with fishing poles. But it works - that's Houston! Food itself was good, but not great. I'll give it 5/5 stars for originality - each dish was unlike anything I've had elsewhere. - ratatouille- 4/5 - it was interesting, and mostly loved that it was soaking in some delicious olive oil. - broth- 4/5 - a nice little spicy kick, but otherwise was just okay - Tuna sashimi - 5/5 - fish was fresh and tasty! Appreciated the crunch between the layers of tuna. - French cheese pancake - 4/5 - generally can't go wrong with bread and cheese. It's interesting, and I liked the green onions topping it. - Fried shrimp and shiso- 4/5 - didn't love the sauce this came with, but otherwise this almost tasted like a jalapeno popper with shrimp. - snapper - 3/5 - poached, and pretty bland. Came with a very fishy seaweed reduction on the side. - potatoes side - 2/5 - don't get these unless you're looking for just boiled potatoes. They're pretty flavorless. Overall, interesting food for a one time visit, but unlikely a place we'll return to.

The intimacy of the small converted Montrose house extends to the explosion of Spanish flavors. It's a small restaurant that is great for a date, but the 10 top bar is my choice for a great dinner. Starting with the Ibérico jamón, which is an amazing dish I think everyone should try. Salt cured pork leg that is aged for years and imported. I would say that it should definitely come with more of the tomato puree on the side. Overall 9.5/10. Bomba rice was special. It's cooked in cuttlefish ink giving it the distinctive coloring with octopus, mini lobster shrimp langostino and a crispy skin branzino. This was a real treat. Rice almost has a meaty beef broth flavoring with a hint of seafood brine. Branzino was cooked perfectly. No notes 9.8/10. Lamb chop was the best lamb chop I have had in Houston. That's it. 9.8/10. Duck breast was different, definitely worth a try. I don't know if I would order it again, but it's not as tender as I would have liked considering the thin slices. The quince reduction block thing really turns it up a notch, but overall left me wanting compared to the amazing standouts of the other dishes. 8.5/10. Gin and tonics are out of this world. You will not experience a better selection of them in this state. My favorite was the Ginger and lime, but I tried six of them. All great.

He was full of energy and very knowledgeable. He gave us details of every dish and has his own recommendations. Hands down the best service I have ever witnessed and received in Houston. Mezcal old Fashion: 7/10.. balanced and a bit flavorless. Kind of hard to explain. Lobster & clam pasta: 10/10.. wonderfully seasoned and the best thing I ate regarding a seafood style pasta. The clams were not that good but the lobster itself was perfectly seasoned. Dragon fruit Gin & Tonic: 10/10.. a must try. I never drank gin before and glad this was my introduction. Crispy phillo dough: 10/10.. you must get this as a desert. Perfectly buttery, flakey and the vanilla bean ice cream inside is just chefs kiss. I can eat 30 of these things honestly.
