An interesting place. Nice decor and fairly good food. We started with the goat cheese tart which was good (not great), hubby had the steak sandwich which was fair, I had the mushroom and swiss crepes which were average. Too bad though, this place could be much better and stand out in a town (Tenafly) that is really lacking good dining. Been there a dozen times and service has always been a problem. I'm never going there again. This past Valentines Day they ruined my dinner by forgetting my wife's order completely (male Asian American waiter). My dinner got cold as I waited for hers. No one came by the table and I had to get up and find out where her dinner was was. When I realized they never put in the order I asked to leave and they promptly gave me a check - I feel like a fool for paying and should have stormed out. Sorry , just came from here and this place is not good at all! . The coffee tasted like it was not fresh. My wife ordered a mushroom and onion omlet, the mushrooms were canned, no onions and a the omlet was weak! . I ordered a swiss mushroom omelet, came with next to no cheese and I sent it back for cheese to be added. the bread was good. Would you believe when I first complained the kitchen offered to bring me cold swiss cheese on the side!! The servers are young but OK HOWEVER with tip our bill was $33 which was absurd for what we got. We have not been back here in a long time and now I know why! ! read more

Really enjoyed my salad! It was big and chopped up nicely. And the dressings were delicious. (tried a few of them on the side.. loved them all!) No bread came with them.. just the salads. My mom has been raving about Brasserie for the last few months. She goes on a weekly basis and wanted me to experience its greatness when I came home this past weekend. I took her advice (as one always should) and ordered the Kale & Quinoa Salad with added grilled shrimp. This salad is freaking PHENOMENAL. Not only is the portion large and super satisfying, but the combination of simple fresh ingredients are so tasty and delicious. I loved it so much that we returned the following night to have the same salad again! Super cute French restaurant in the little downtown area. It doesn't have the most traditional French dishes, but offers a good selection of soups, salads, sandwiches, and burgers. It's a great place to stop in for lunch. I had the Israeli quinoa salad, which was incredibly refreshing. The service was fantastic - prompt and attentive. This is a really cute restaurant with a vintage/pop vibe. The lunch and dinner menus are different. Their sweet potato fries and the turkey sandwich with cranberry aioli are quite delectable. With quite reasonable prices, this French themed establishment has a menu and presentation worthy of places that often charge twice the price. We had the oven grilled shrimp (superb) which is done in an orange ginger sauce with fresh vegetables. The other wonderful entree was hangar steak with truffle fries. Grilled medium rare, it was a beautiful cut of meat. Add in that it is a BYOB place, it helps manage your budget while maximizing your enjoyment. a nice fancy looking but casual restaurant in tenafly that serves some good unique food. my bro who invited me for over for thanksgiving took me here friday morning before i made my journey back to nyc and glad he did. from the outside of place it has an old fashion elegant type of look with its wood exterior and when you walk in it has a really cozy vintage look like the old days. the decor is really appealing to me with its red leather booths which i dig cause booth seating is my fave . a nice two tone painted walls with high ceiling and exposed brick walls that give place that old french bistro feel. the menu of breakfast , lunch and dinner is not the typical diner type, no it's more a franco american type with crepes, french toast, omelettes , quiche , mini fried donuts which are the bomb for breakfast and for lunch and dinner which i hope to try in the future is salads, sandwiches , lunch crepes, soups, steak , roasted chicken, etc. i ordered the swiss and mushroom omelette with a side salad (should have ordered steak fries) and two slices of the softest rye type bread that was really tasty so what the heck i ordered some more. the eggs were fluffy two layers of swiss and mushroom filled delight and the decaffeinated cappy didn't hurt as well. i shared the mini fried donuts with my bro and now its time for a nap at 9am in the morning (lol). it's funny that we were the only two souls inside the place and had me thinking that this place might suck big time but thats not the case at all. when i visit my bro again soon i will give this place another try cause those donuts are calling my name and them banana crepes look really sexy (lol). read more

So it wasn't the best restaurant on earth, but it wasn't shabby either. Our plans fell through going to the new Vietnamese place in Tenafly cause they said they didn't take reservations but then there was a 30-45 min wait, BIG BOO ON THEM. Anyway, our friend said there was this place ,and he missedprounced it "Bruhzeer" like, the long word for BRA. And we laughed. Then we went and had some food. My friend had the quesadillas and she liked them, her hubs had the Israeli beef thing and liked it. My husband had the steak frite- which fyi is hanger steak, and said it was deliciously spiced but over cooked, and I had the goat cheese and spinach with bechamel sauce crepe and it was yummm. However, my Lentil soup was watery. However however, hehehe, my husband's Butternut Squash soup was off the chain delish. Seriously. It's a cute place, a little casual but really nice. As soon as you walk in, from the interior to the servers, you feel like you're in a Parisian cafe shop but that's about it as far as the pros. I went for brunch and the portions were so small. Their "avocado toast" was literally sliced avocados...on toast. Nothing like the ones you can find in the city. The server was attentive to some extent but I came here for the food and the good reviews and left feeling unsatisfied and hungry. Also, the bathrooms were clogged the day that I went so none of the customers were able to use the restroom which was a little inconvenient for the guests. This use to be my favorite little place because of its yummy food and inviting atmosphere. While the food was still good, I can not even describe my disappointment in the service. When my mom and I first walked in, the four servers sitting/standing around in the back of the restaurant, on their phones, just looked at us and let us stand there wondering if we should seat ourselves. When I asked if we could seat ourselves one of the girls finally walked over with menus and didn't say a word to us...again leaving me confused. So I asked again if we could just pick a table and she reluctantly said yes. When we sat down she got us water and didn't say a single word to us, not even a smile. Our server was very pleasant but after taking our order we never saw her again. There were several points in our lunch when we needed things like water and ketchup but no one would come to us, despite being the only people in the restaurant. We finally had to call out for someone, which was very uncomfortable. We just felt like a nuisance from start to finish. read more

i read these reviews and its really sad how the service really brings down the rating. my brother suggested we go here for saturday brunch.. they were accommodating, esp considering we were a party of 8 adults and 2 kids. the ambiance is cute, and there's a good amount of seating. suitable for tenafly. the food is delish. i had the croque madame which was tasty. everyone was satisfied with their meals. definitely at least 4 stars for food. now to the service. which i do agree the service is lacking. we order coffee with milk and sugar.. so they bring the coffee.. but no milk and sugar? so we have to ask for it. my niece ordered pancakes..brings out the pancakes but no syrup? so we have to ask for syrup. my friend ordered the french toast with fruit and nutella.. brings out the french toast with fruit only.. then we have to wait again for the nutella. they were apologetic so i feel bad saying that the service wasnt great but it felt like one big waiting game. oh and i had to constantly ask just for my water to be refilled - which is just a personal pet peeve of mine. the thing is that if you're going to charge '$$$' then i kinda expect a better dining experience. the food is worth it but the service needs to up their game. i'll probably give this place another shot in hopes that they can prove me wrong with their service because i really do like the food! read more

Tried Brasserie for lunch. French toast was good (or so does my daughter say), Croque Monseur was very average. It was basically two slices of bread, fried in lots of butter with cheese and ham in the middle. No Bechamel sauce, no grated cheese. Wouldn't recommend it. read more

The food is very good and we eat there fairly often so we've tried quite a few dishes. The atmosphere is very pleasant too. What we don't like is the staff. I don't know where they find their waiters, but we've never seen such an incompetent bunch! I don't think there's been a single meal there when we haven't been annoyed with something related to the service. Either they're forgetting something or screwing up an order or being inattentive and leaving things on the table which should have been cleared away. We've continued to frequent the place because we like the food a lot and find it to be a very good value. Wish they'd train their staff though. read more

My wife and I have been going to Brasserie (formerly Play Cafe) since it opened, and it's really a superb place for casual dining of delicious food at affordable prices prepared by a French chef who knows what he's doing. The bread is from Balthazar Bakery in Englewood, and that tells you something about the owner's care. I recommend the coq au vin, roast chicken, hamburger (which can compete with Houston's), Monsieur Croque (I recommend substituting the excellent bacon for the ham), pancakes, salmon (try it on a hard roll!), and excellent fresh cut fries. And lately the service has improved significantly. I've lived in Tenafly since 1953, and I tell everyone that Brasserie is the best thing that's happened to Tenafly restaurant-wise since I moved here. read more
