In my heart, Fogo will always be my first love for the "gaucho experience". But this sadly wasn't…read morethe Fogo I remember. I remember when Fogo first came to Houston around the year 2000. It was the pioneer of modern churrascarias before all the imitators arrived. I used to frequent the old Westheimer location across from Walmart often, and back then it always felt like magic. Admittedly it has been years since I've visited any Fogo, and I'd never been to the Woodlands location before. Before arriving, I had talked it up to my kid telling her stories of days gone by. As we walked, I was hoping the nostalgia would hold ... whelp it didn't. The staff was friendly as it always has been. But after the initial greeting our waiter disappeared. Never saw him again. Our plates were never swapped out like they used to do. And in fact we just kept eating off our used salad‑bar plate. So much for fine dining. And No pão de queijo! I kept telling my kid about the legendary cheesy bread here. We didn't get any. Nada. And in fact we didn't get any of the sides. And I eventually had to ask for the complimentary mashed potatoes after being well into the meal because my kid kept asking when the mashed potatoes would arrive. The asparagus on the buffet honestly looked like green beans -- a far cry from the thick, vibrant stalks they used to serve. I remember they were like stalks of carrots back in the day. Some of the meats weren't even warm. And some of the cuts were tough. No premium meats ever made it to our table. The green/red steak medallions on each table to flip over indicating "more meat!" used to feel like part of the whole experience -- solid, good heft, almost ceremonial. Now it's just paper cutouts. Not just this location but the Westheimer one too in this regards. It felt like Fogo was basically admitting they're cutting corners on the tiny details that used to make the meal feel more premium. And honestly, those medallions discs mattered. They made the whole "more meat / no more meat" thing feel official instead of arts-and-crafts cut outs they have now. And the flies here. Ugh. So aggressive and persistent. I have no idea how they got inside the establishment. But they were annoying and relentless. At the end of the meal my kid looked at me and said, "Can we just go to LongHorn next time?" I really wanted to pass down the magic that I had remembered, but honestly I couldn't argue with her. "You bet," I told her. It kind of reminded me of seeing Depeche Mode as an adult -- the nostalgia was there, but the feeling just wasn't. Some experiences are better preserved as memories, rather than trying to be revived and relived. This unfortunately was one of them. Sigh.

Weekend brunch or happy hour, Churrascos is the place to be! After loving the weekend brunch…read morebuffet, we decided to give the Churrascos happy hour a shot and were blown away! Our waitress, Alex, was great, and it was super peaceful to sit on the Waterway patio while enjoying a meal. The complimentary plantain chips with chimichurri were different and delicious. Guacamole, sangria, and crab cake were all decently priced for dinner. The New York strip could use some extra flavor, but the delicious mashed potatoes and Brussel sprouts sides made up for it. And to die for was the sticky toffee pudding! All around an amazing happy hour and date night spot that I highly recommend.

It was an incredible joy to taste the best fried plantain in all of Texas, and it came with some yummy spicy dip and green herbs dip with! So different so exotic! We ordered the corn smoked crab fingers as an appetiser, and the spinach and beef empanadas. We weren't too hungry and just wanted to try the appetisers before we ordered big meals. The atmosphere seems like it is supposed to be romantic, the reason for the red, although I'm not fond of the color AT ALL, the atmosphere was nice. Oh my goodness the smoked crab fingers were quite a surprise! I always knew crab could taste like this but could never find it. Yummy portions of deliciously flavoured crab. Oh my goodness I just had the most flavourful margarita I've ever had in my whole life, the Petia I think it is called! They put a salt around the rim that is not just regular salt, it is an explosion of spice in your mouth like fireworks. The spinach empanada was incredible. They had the best Yucca I've ever had in all of the US! Best meal ever in the United States. The service was incredible, everyone is so nice here, but genuine. This place is an EXPERIENCE and well worth the money. Shalom!

Thanks owners for thinking of that small touch that is actually huge for us ladies. I also enjoyed the hand exfoliant and the body butter in the restroom as well. Ok....Moving along to why everyone's here. My guest just had a classic breakfast of eggs, sausage and we added in the lemon cream cheese pancake. I had a sweet tooth and this did the trick. The pancake was soft, fluffy and not an overwhelming sweet from the lemon cream cheese. but enough to cure the craving, All of his food was seasoned well. I had the Chilaquiles and it was so full of flavor. The chicken breast was cooked just right and the addition of corn and abundance of veggies in the dish was a welcoming surprise. It was a very hearty but clean meal. The wait staff was fantastic. Both bartenders (One was from Hawaii- forgot his name) were very welcoming and communicative. The restaurant manager along with owner also came by to greet and check on us. Last but not least, they were celebrating The 4th of July with $2.50 martinis. What a steal!!! I have heard that their happy hour is very decent for the price and the quality that you receive. I said all of that to say, this spot should definitely be on the list for any occasion or time of day.
