Took our beloved Senior cat in today. The vet tech was excellent, taking the time to get a thorough history of symptoms, etc. Dr. Julie Forbes couldn't have been any nicer or more professional. They are very good about going over the prices with you before anything is done. Also, they are great, empathetic listeners and explain things well. You can't go wrong with this animal hospital. Found a stray dog today tuning around my neighborhood and could tell she had been pregnant. After help getting her into my car i called this vet to check for a microchip. To say the were accommodating is an understatement. The staff is lovely, helpful, and knowledgable. The vet even came out and said hello. After finding out the dog wasn't chipped I walked out with a leash, towel, and treats for no cost. I am so thankful for all their help today. I saw this vet office a few times when I passed it while driving. We just got a new puppy and needed to bring him in for an exam. I called in to make an appointment and the lady on the phone was very helpful with my questions and was able to give me all the information I needed. I brought my puppy, Bacon, in here about 2 weeks ago. He's an 8 week old Shiba Inu and we had gotten him from a breeder in Missouri. He arrived very scared and wasn't eating at all. I brought him in to see Dr. Forbes the day right after he arrived for a check-up. He still wasn't eating and Dr. Forbes had suggested many different things to kick start his eating. Aside from the eating, he was completely healthy. We tried all the things that Dr. Forbes had said, but it was still difficult to get Bacon to eat. After we left the vet, Dr. Forbes had called us at least once a day to check up on Bacon to see if he was eating yet. Even after Bacon had started eating, I got a call from the other veterinarian that worked there, Dr. Massenzio, checking up on Bacon to see if he was doing any better eating wise. Dr. Massenzio told me she had a Shiba of her own as well and recommended a brand of food that her dog eats to see if Bacon would try and eat that. I went to Petco and bought the brand she recommended and sure enough, Bacon started eating and now has a great appetite. This vet hospital is great. The front office, techs and doctors are all incredibly nice and helpful. They call to check up on the dogs more than I ever expected a vet to do. The prices here are also very comparable to other places. read more

We lost our Molly yesterday to renal failure. I have to say, the staff of Brea Veterinary Hospital, all of them -- especially Dr. Forbes, helped us give Molly a high quality life throughout her illness. She was sick but with their help, we were able to manage her illness and not only make her comfortable, but happy. Yesterday was the day we said goodbye. My husband and I can tell you that Dr. Allison Massenzio, without question, is doing the job she was called to do. She made our goodbyes to our Molly the best they could be. She was so gentle with us and with Molly and we appreciate her loving kindness more than words can express. Thank you, to all of you, for everything you did for us and for our Molly. I will say they are not the cheapest place, but you get what you pay for. I take my dog there and she never gets scared. They always call to follow up on her and they really care about your pets. My parents were taking their dog to a cheap clinic and long story short the vet at the cheap clinic tried to cut corners by not doing blood work before they put the poodle under for a minor surgery. They knew he had issues and they didn't play it safe, so when he woke up he had Kidney failure from the meds and he had to get put down a month later. We brought him to Brea Vet Hospital to put him down because the other vet's office scared him from all the trauma he went through there. Dr. Julie Forbe's was amazing! She was so loving and she really wanted to see if there was a way to keep him living but he was just too far gone. They even sent a grievance card to my parents the next day. They were so humane and they made that difficult time as smooth as anyone could make it. We only wish they had paid for the better vet service all along, because we would still have the dog if they hadn't gone to the discount vet in the first place. read more

I had gone to them before when we had another dog and Dr. Forbes was very kind and compassionate. We got a new dog from the pound last year and yesterday went on a hike in the hills of Brea and she started drying. I called them to take a look at her and they wanted $69.30 just for an office visit! Extremely expensive. I declined and took her somewhere else. read more

I wanted to give kudos' to Brea Vet. Just had our 13 yr old dog euthanized today and I have to give them a big thumbs up. The entire staff were compassionate and showed sincere care for our dog. The Dr. was amazing and made this difficult process much easier to handle by her gentle touch. She walked us thru the process and answered every question we had. My 15 yr old daughter was present and i made me feel more at ease having the Dr show such sincere care for her as well. If I could give this vet a minus I would. If you want care for your pet that is affordable and honest do not go here. I have stopped using this vet just as my friends have. They will charge you for and do services that are not needed. Ridiculously over priced. As mentioned in another review by another previous client be prepared to wait. You wait when you get there, wait in the room for a long time, wait to check out and if you should happen to call in be prepared to be put on hold to....wait! Trust me on this, Yolinda Vet is just as wonderful, you will pay about 1/4th of what you will pay at Brea and they are honest! They only do what is needed. And the compassion for your pet and family at Yolinda put Brea Vet to shame.! They are open on Sundays too. Unless you have money to throw away steer clear of Brea Vet. And I am a pet owner that only wants the best for her pets! read more

The staff and the doctors here are REALLY nice. They always get me an appointment quickly and are very friendly when we are in the office. The vets treat our dogs well and seem to care about them. My only complaints are that given the opportunity, they will totally over-medicate. They always recommend all kinds of medications that are just not really necessary. Also, they are pretty expensive - more than any other vet in the area. We have found other places to bring our dogs that are far more reasonable in price. read more

Dr. Julia Forbes and her assistant, Kelly Gravina were so kind and compassionate when I had to put my 16 year old cat, Shadow to sleep on March 24th. I am so impressed on how they handled the procedure from start to finish. Everything went at my pace and not once did I feel rushed. They made sure that Shadow was safe, warm, comfortable and pain free. They also helped reassure me that I was doing the right thing under the circumstances dealing with this very sensitive and delicate matter. I will be forever grateful to them both. It is nice to know that my Maltese, Lacy and my Russian Blue, Neko, are in excellent hands with Dr. Forbes and her wonderful staff. read more

My elderly cat was being seen by the Cat Care Clinic in Orange and was under their treatment for an array of seemingly treatable concerns. After a week of not improving, I called for the vet to return my call (she called back two weeks later) and then after her condition worsened throughout the day, they would not let me bring her in because it was two hours from closing. It left me struggling to find a vet to look at her and she was in labored breathing. Brea Vet told me to bring her right over and they would look at her. This was not even my cat's vet and they were willing to see her. They were waiting for us and when we drove up, they caringly took her right in and diagnosed her in minutes. Unfortunately, it was a grave diagnosis and she was in heart failure and had to be put to sleep. Brea Vet was gracious, kind, sympathetic and professional, all at the same time. They treated her and us like we had been there for years and it was at closing time. I wish I chose this vet for my cat instead of the other. They sent me the most beautiful and personalized card sending their condolences and used my cat's name in all of the employees comments; even the vet who had to put her to sleep. My family and I are so grateful they were there to support us through this devastating time and loss. read more

I've been bringing my cats here for the past year and I'm pretty satisfied. It seems like they really care for the animals and when one of my kitties was sick I got follow up calls straight from the doctor every few days till she was better. We picked Brea Vet Hospital on a whim after moving to the area, and we are so glad we did!! Dr. Forbes and Dr. Massenzio are both so wonderful, its truly obvious that they are in the profession because they love and care about animals. I've called them at all hours of the day before because my dog has done something dumb/gotten ill, and they always get back to me immediately 99% of the time with same day appts. They are both very affectionate to my dog which helps put him at ease during stressful moments. The vet techs (I'm sorry I don't know anybodys names) are very well taught and efficient. One of them heard a passing comment I made about using essential oils in my home and made sure I knew that some were harmful to dogs even when diffused into the air. (I did NOT know, so thanks!!) I'll always take my dog here, possible even after we move out of the Brea area. read more

The employees here are very nice but I wish I would have asked how much the total would have been. I called because my dog ate some of a chocolate muffin and they suggested that I go in to be safe. It ended up costing me $250 to make my dog throw up! That is an insane amount for something like that. Just for the exam it was $98! Then $60 to induce vomiting. $42 for some fluid and another $48 for antiemetic. I wish they would have went over this BEFORE doing it and not after they've already done that way I have no other choice. It was my mistake for not asking. If you go make sure you check your options! read more

I have been going to this vet for a number of years. Dr. Forbes is very knowledgable and kind. However, the last few years the rates and number of "suggested" tests has increased. If I say no to any of the tests or recommendations, the staff makes you feel like a bad dog owner. Our visits to the vet range from $150 (on a good day) to $500 per visit. I have two dogs and frankly I can't afford to continue going there. I am opting to go to another vet further from me. I would give Dr. Forbes five stars but you need a big pocket book. read more

I first brought our little guy here after we rescued him from a kill shelter. They fit us in the day after we got him and he got a through exam. Since then we have boarded him there many times. We drive 25 miles to get there but worth it knowing the care they provide. read more

This place is way toooo expensive. My dog has allergies that causes his paws to swell once in a while. They had me do three exams and one shot. The shot only lasted one day and cost more than $100. Also the vet gave me prescription to get pills from the local pharmacy. The medication also cost more than $150, the pharmacist recommended me to just get half of them since it was expensive. Another bad thing was that I did not know heart worms can be seen through blood test or x-rays only. Vet just listened to my dog's heartbeat with stethoscope and said he had heart worms, giving me another costly medication. Later when I visited other vet, I learned heart worms can't be found through listening to the heartbeat. Also they kept pushing me to get medicated dog food that I did not want. I didn't buy the food but one allergy visit cost more than $500. read more

I was first introduced to the Brea Veterinary Hospital by a friend. I am so thankful for this. Dr. Forbes and Dr. Massenzio are the most fantastic, wonderful veterinarians I have EVER come across. I used to live In Fullerton, but now I live in Glendale and I still take my 9 year old dog to them. I simply do not trust any other veterinarians. They are honest, understanding, caring, and ALWAYS returning your phone calls and checking up on your pet. All of staff is super friendly and they are open 7 days a week. They have a nice parking lot as well. They are a little pricey but it is so worth it. They have alot of specials as well and they also take the Care card which is a credit card , low interest, make payments over time etc. They always have specials on flea products and in February they have discount teeth cleaning (no anesthetic). You also get discount if you are a part of the Pampered Pet Club. They also have a Website with a pet Portal so you can check on your pets upcoming shots and thing. I honestly in my heart DO NOT BELIVE a few of the reviews that i have seen with only one star. These women are smart and have a special talent for what they do. read more

I highly that you stay away from this place. It is a total ripoff. I took my dog there for a follow up check up after they had already diagnosed him as having allergies. Granted they had already charged me $240 for the initial exam. During this checkup, the Vet wanted to do another eye exam and drops, plus pushing for additional allergy medicine. What should have been a $40 follow up turned out to be $160! When I saw the bill, I told them that I did not want the medicine. They told me sorry we already opened the bottle and you can't return it. Nice customer service! Stay far away from this place. They are nothing but crooks. read more

Taking advatage of situation is not my idea of a good vet. I took my dog in to get a tooth extration and was told it would cost between 1,200 and 1,500 to do. My dad just had a rootcanal done with no insurace and it cost him 1,200. So needless to say we went to a differnt vet with for a secon opinion/price. This vet's office was three times nicer and four times as big, so I asumed the price would be as well. Turns out they'd do the same job for 478.00 and clean his teeth while he was out. Guess who we went with... Thank god the price was so high it made me distrust this vet and go see some one else. It was disturbing that somthing like this could happen from someone I trusted my pets life with. My dog is now recovering from his ordeal and is going to be much happier with a new white coat that's been doing this for over 20 years in the same location. I know Brea Vet has been in the same spot for a while as well but I seem to see a differt doctor every time I'm there. I hope this review makes people think twice...and definatly get a second opion on anything major this vet is going to do for you. read more

I went to the Brea Veterinary Hospital because my newly adopted dog had a cough. I called the morning of the day I wanted to go and they had openings that day. The receptionist was very sweet. The nurses there are extremely nice and loving of animals, and the doctor as well. You can tell she genuinly cares about animals but is still very professional. I don't remember but the exam is like $57, and if youre a first time its like $30 off. As far as their other procedures, I don't know if their prices are reasonable but if you're not worried about price, go to this place read more

I took our cat here a few weeks ago, he wasn't doing very well at all. We've been very impressed by the vets, the staff are great, the follow-up by the vets has been outstanding, and our cat is doing much better now. On one hand it wasn't cheap, on the other hand we were not overcharged, or upsold on anything that they did. I did not write this review before but seeing on Brea Buzz that they allowed an animal to die needlessly recently brought back my own experience with this hospital which happened many years ago (around 2004) but was still traumatic for my family. We had a 2 year old pixie-bob cat and one day she started to refuse to eat and started throwing up. I found Brea Veterinary Hospital and they were able to take her in and examine her. They examined her and recommended that I leave her overnight under supervision and that they would call me in the morning to see what needed to be done next. The next morning, around mid-morning, I received a phone call from the vet herself who told me that she is sorry to inform me that my cat is dead and that they have no idea what happened. She said when they came in that morning they found her dead. So, they also waited HOURS to call me AND they lied to me that she would be under supervision overnight. I asked how that could happen if someone was supervising her as I had been led to believe when I left her there. She responded that everyone goes home overnight. So, they recommended that I leave a very sick cat who, unbeknownst to me at that time, needed urgent medical care in a cage, by herself, with no medical supervision all night long. They offered to pay for an autopsy which found a linear foreign body (a hair ribbon) in her intestines. They said the cause of death was an undiagnosed heart condition which was put under stress due to her condition, which basically took the onus off of them. Now that I read about linear foreign bodies, they are, in my opinion, completely responsible for my cat's death even if my cat allegedly had some heart ailment, which I never saw any report of nor any proof of, just what THEY said because all they had to do is do a simple X-ray and they likely would have found it instead of leaving her all alone to die when she needed immediate emergency medical attention. I entrusted them to care for my cat and all I received was a dead cat. Luckily they withdrew the bill for allowing my cat to die. Her name was Nala. read more

My poodle begin favoring her rear paw after falling while attempting to jump onto a chair. I took her to Brea Veterinary Hospital for evaluation and was diagnosed with a torn cruciate. Although surgery was an option, Dr. M recommended trying their laser therapy first to see if the damage could be repaired without surgery. A series of 8 treatments (a few minutes each) was very reasonable and the results have been miraculous. After the very first treatment, my poodle (who had limped in) came bounding out and was much better. Over the course of the treatments, she improved steadily and surgery has been avoided. This laser treatment is incredible! I highly recommend both this treatment and Brea Vet Hospital. read more

Awesome very caring staff, very understanding and accomodating. I took a stray cat in for an eye infection, and yes received the first visit free since I was a referral. Other tests and treatments are quite expensive so be prepared for a dialogue to question the expense and find cheaper or different options. The last vet I went to was economy, but not very nice. I took my Shelly girl in because she had been hacking/coughing and was not sure what was wrong with her. I had taken her in the previous day to Dr Gregg's Animal Hospital in La Habra and he gave her a Kenalog injection which did nothing so I knew she needed treatment and did not want to go back to Dr. Gregg. Let me just say the moment i walked into the doors to Brea Vet Hospital I could feel the warmth and hospitality and just knew I had come to the right place. I had found the hospital on google and was so happy that they did not charge me an exam fee since it was a 2nd opinion, Well it turns out Shelly had kennel cough and the Vet was so incredibly nice and the whole staff! not only that but I received 2 follow up calls from the vets asking how Shelly was doing. This staff is exceptional and so happy I found them and will continue to use this facility! I work for Nationwide Pet insurance (VPI) and I know exactly how important it is to feel comfortable with where you take your pet. Thank you Brea Vet Hospital! read more

We have been bringing our sweet little beagle Daisy Mae to Brea Veterinary Hospital for over 5 years now. We love this place and feel peace of mind knowing that the incredible doctors and wonderful staff will take the best care of us. Daisy has been seeing both doctors since she was a puppy and their care has been detrimental in helping our very allergic dog lead a more enjoyable life. I love that they always call to check on her after our visits and offer that best options to help keep our beagle healthy. The fact that they are open 7 days a week is a huge plus too. Yes, they are alittle expensive... but our Daisy is like one of our children and she deserves high quality care and the very best. She gets that at Brea Veterinary Hospital. We love Dr. Forbes and Dr. Massenzio and their office staff round out a very nice family atmosphere. Do not use this veterinarian. All of the over priced and up sell reviews are correct. They will make you feel like a terrible human for not doing every test they can think of. We went into 3 grand of debt from bill after bill, expensive visit after expensive visit when my cat got sick (she passed away 2 months after they "cured" her. I really wish I had gotten a second opinion. I don't know if my cat would've lived longer but I wouldn't have been hosed trying to save her). Even during a healthy visit somehow I would end up paying for extras. I have visited a few vets since this place with another animal and I never experienced this. I feel they took advantage of a situation. I would never go to them again. It isn't worth the money, they do not know more than other people or have any special skills. They just charge a lot more and make you feel bad for questioning it or for not have thousands in disposable income for over priced tests, analysis and medications. read more

vets seem to be caring and knowledgeable. however, its "very" costly. i priced the service i received to a nearby vet and brea vet hosp was approx 1/3 more the price!! Also, be sure to shop around for supplements that they recommend or meds b/c it will be less expensive elsewhere almost by 1/2; which was my experience. would not return due to the cost, they're not competitive with pricing.
