I am a regular customer. While eating their Split Pea With Ham soup today, I bit down on something hard and after spitting it out saw that it was a bone fragment, about 1/4" long. I put the fragment on a napkin and handed it to the manager "Elsa", explaining that I found the bone fragment in the soup. With a big smile Elsa told me "This is how you know the soup is homemade." Then she discarded the bone fragment in the trash and walked away without saying anything else. I fail to see the humor in a situation where harmful objects are found in her restaurant's food. If Elsa would have said something like "I'm sorry, I'll mention it to the chef", I would have felt like a valued customer instead of the object of sick humor or sarcasm. read more

I ordered 2 to-go orders over the phone of the strawberry, banana, and Nutella crepes. When we started eating the crepes, we realized that there wasn't Nutella in any of the crepes. The person taking the order probably didn't hear the order correctly, would have been nice if the order was read back to the customer to make sure the order was correct. So even if I was just reviewing the strawberry and banana crepes without Nutella, the crepes still weren't very good. I get that it's a to-go order but the crepes didn't even look appealing to eat. The bananas that were used were overly ripe/black, barely any filling of strawberries or bananas, no powdered sugar, and the crepes were overly thick, almost bordering a pancake at that point. The crepes would probably be better if we ate at the restaurant, but I would have hoped the to-go orders would still look or taste better. I doubt I'd ever order anything to go anymore. read more

My first time here and I was very impressed by the quality of service and the food. I had the veggie skillet with a single blueberry pancake and it was yumm. A lot of breakfast places make the food greasy or the portion sizes are ginormous and you walk away feeling bloated or like you wasted food - most breakfast food doesn't reheat well so even if you boxed it, you're not going to enjoy it the same way later.. Neither of these problems exist here.. nicely sized portions. Tasty!! And not at all greasy. My only one complaint is that the coffee was a little too watery for my taste but I am very picky about my coffee. read more

This restaurant was previously "Granny's" and it's been many years that I have not been there. I recently moved into the area and see new owners are in place. Today I ordered an omelette with feta and spinach, unfortunately what I received was a flat egg with a few pcs of feta and a few pcs of spinach. The omelette was dry and quite empty of filling. Will I go back there with new owners...NO!!!! I recommend you not waste your time there ordering an omlette. When I called just to comment on how disappointed I was, the guy's response was "we make all our omelettes flat". For those of you who like a flat empty omelette this is the place for you. read more

In the area near lunchtime on a weekend, so we stopped in. We were surprised to find out how tiny this place is. Service was mediocre. From the guy who poured our water to our server to the bus boy, no one seemed too happy to be there. All of our thank-you's were met with grunts. The only pleasant staff were the two women behind the cash register. The food was just "meh"; nothing I'd ever come back for. I had the Denver omelette and the ham in it was gross. I could tell it was a very cheap brand; tasted awful. The hash browns that came with the omelette were very good though. Husband had a burger and while it was a nice size, it was also extremely greasy. On the way out, I needed to use the washroom and we didn't see one! Like I said, the place is tiny, so you can see everything around you. No washroom in sight. We thought perhaps it was on the outside of the building so we looked on the side of the building where we exited, and didn't see one. I just read some of the other reviews and I see some people mentioned the washroom is outside at the back of the building, like a gas station. Huge turn-off for customers. read more

Food was not hot, not warm, but more like room temperature. Every time I give this place a try, I feel like I don't want to pay for what I've actually attempted to eat at the end. Is that weird? Bread and Butter has been a Saturday lunch favorite of my daughter's for several years. We would stop in about once a month. The servers are very friendly. We nearly always eat at the counter. Service is quick and efficient. We have only eaten breakfast foods and have liked everything we have had. Definitely recommend trying it out if in the area. A SOLID 3.5/5. I have not been here in a while. I decided to try it. I got the Nutella w/ banana and strawberry crepes. First thing, customer service was fine. Quick and attentive. My food though, they forgot the Nutella. Mistakes happen. They corrected it. The hash browns had no crispiness and just soft. I like some sort of crispiness. The bacon though they charge is 1.60 a slice, so 2 slices is 3.20 which is crazy to me so I did not get that. The sides were pretty expensive. Overall my experience was a 3.5/5.. this place is best for: average families, or for when you do not feel like cooking and need a quick fix. It was a fine experience. This is an actual cafe, not a full-sized restaurant. Small and cozy (It's a former old-style Dairy Queen). They run it similar to the old-time mom and pop style cafes. The food, while not overly generous, it cooked just like home cooking. Nothing fancy, no frills, just good cooking and normal sized portions. Service is fast, friendly and efficient. The only downside (and for some - it's a doozy) is that the bathrooms are OUTSIDE and In back - just like the DQ that they renovated was. For this reason alone, we will not be coming back here...My wife put her foot down and said never again to that set-up. I also may have stole some of my friends they were that good. We also got the Denver omelet and chorizo skillet. Both were good and huge portions so come hungry. We did brunch on a Sunday afternoon and the place was definitely busy but we were able to grab a seat at the bar section. They do have bar seating but this place sells no booze just FYI. Let me start by saying this is one of the most disrespectful things ever done to me at a place where I'm spending my money and it was all done by the worker Elsa. She is rude, condescending, disrespectful, and overall a horrible person. I ordered 3 chilaquiles over the phone. 5 minutes later I walked into the cafe and requested to change 1 order of chilaquiles for a steak skillet. The front desk lady said that's ok and charged us for 1 steak skillet 2 chilaquiles. We waited 20 minute our food came out and they gave us 3 chilaquiles and not our steak skillet. So we told the lady she apologized and said our steak skillet would be out soon and took back one order of chilaquiles. Everything was good until Elsa came out running and yelling at us that they have to throw away the food and it's our fault and that they already made the food. 1 this is a lie because we still waited 20 minutes for the food to come out. 2 if this was a problem we should've been told when we walked to updates our requests that we could not do that. We would've been fine, taken the 3 chilaquiles and payed for the steak skillet but the host accommodated our request and that was that. Elsa was clearly having a bad day yelling at us saying it's our fault saying the customer is not always right and she told go ahead make a review I don't care. She kept saying that they have to throw away food that we did this wrong and when we corrected her that the host accommodated our request to change it, she went silent and said it was still our fault. Clearly at loss for words knowing she was wrong but refusing to take accountability. This is the worst experience I've ever had. Because of Elsa I will be steering friends and family away from this restaurant and taking this to social media to prevent anyone from being treated like this by Elsa read more

New Breakfast and Lunch Restaurant in Palatine. My wife and I accidentally walked in on their Pre-Opening for family and friends and the owner graciously invited us to stay. They open to the public on Monday, April 4th. Very nice decor. Staff very friendly. I had the #1 Breakfast Special. 3 Pancakes or 2 pieces of French Toast, 3 eggs and a large thick piece of Ham Off the Bone. It was delicious! My wife had the Steak Skillet which she enjoyed very much. The steak was so tender and the marinade added a wonderful taste. Prices are very reasonable. Can't wait to try their lunch items. We had a house showing this morning so we decided to go out and have breakfast at the bread-and-butter Café, since we had not been there before. It was such a nice day we decided to eat on the patio and were told that our dog could come and sit with us. It's very nice to have a dog friendly restaurant for breakfast. We all ordered something different and the food was excellent and I like the choice of fruit instead of fried breakfast potatoes or hashbrowns. The menu had a little bit of everything for breakfast and they had weekend specials for breakfast. I would recommend eating at this café with your dog on the patio is a relaxing experience in a very pleasant time to spend eating and enjoying time with your dog at the same time.
