Croissants were amazing
Chris S.

Addy the Manager was so kind! She's a bright and funny person and sometimes we need that first thing in the morning! The food was amazing! I ordered a Vanilla Latte and a butter croissant. OMG so fresh! Also I learned all syrups are homemade in house, and I can definitely taste the difference. Next time I will for sure try the M bread aka Marcos bread!

Absolutely delightful experience. It is limited seating inside, but plenty of seating out front. Definitely lots of quick grab items. Everything fresh and delicious.

The cuisine is exceptional. Our meal consisted of a breakfast sandwich, coffee, and biscotti. Every item was superb. We are currently in Miami, Florida for the Adult International Figure Skating Competition and highly recommend a visit to this establishment. Excellent work!

Dessert/Pastries

Great concept....but Got the Chicago Dog which did not come with some of the most basic things. No Sport Peppers and when we asked for some, we were told the kitchen was out of Sport Peppers. The Burrito had all the ingredients but was not flavorful at all. My husband who NEVER adds salt had to add salt and his own spicy sauce. Ordered the French Toast after asking the guy taking our order if it was soaked enough...I explained that I hated French Toast that was plain white bread on the inside. When I got the food, I first cut into the bread and showed the guy the lack of egg. He asked the cook to soak and add more egg. Finally, when it came back it was better. Another issue was how swelteringly hot the place was!!!'

Didn't try the pastries but the coffee is good. I don't. Usually drink coffee but the hubby needs to have his. Quick service order at counter. Got the lavender honey latte with oat milk. 4 stars. Yummy. Tastes great albeit lavender fragrance is a little muted. Hubby got mocha with extra vanilla (to make it sweeter): he said it was good - a rare one for him. They also have a variety of pastries and salads (macaroni, potato) and pickled veggies on sale. I would totally get some but they won't let me take it on plane on acct of the liquid.

It's not fast, but definitely fresh and delicious. Hubby n I don't eat a lot we eat small portions often. We ordered the Reuben (yumm) and a chili dog. They are "franks" not hot dogs. These are the real deal. Everyone is friendly and they are professional at what they do. Has the feel of an old town mom n pop place. The soups are expensive especially for the size, but apparently are made with fresh ingredients. We will return!

Day Old soggy apple croissant

Wall of awards has gone to their heads. We visited on the Saturday morning before new years. Bought three things. Breakfast burrito with bacon, apple croissant, cinnamon roll. In the burrito the potatoes were hard/uncooked. The apple croissant was a day old (at least), NOT crispy but soggy and dense/oily. The cinnamon roll is really a roll with SOME cinnamon Don't waste your money, we did. And it wasn't cheap. Ignore what is below on this review. Yelp inserted it automatically.

I thought the waffles were good. The breakfast burrito I felt needed some spices. Over all I give it a 4 star

Ask the Community - Bread & Water Company

Does this place bake its own pastry items (croissants, muffins, and other breakfast items)?

Yes. And they are fantastic

Do they have mille feuille?

Hi Roger, Thanks for your query.…

Do they serve pancakes?

No, we don’t serve pancakes. We do serve our trademark buttermilk house made Superwaffles, however!

Delicate Hot Chocolate…read more I have long been an admirer of fine hot chocolate. Traditionally, I would visit Starbucks or a contemporary coffeehouse, only to receive what often felt like mocha syrup blended with steamed milk--pleasant, perhaps, but rarely memorable. This morning marked my first visit to Tatte Bakery & Café in Old Town Alexandria where the hot chocolate proved to be an unexpected delight. The associate explained that it was prepared with semisweet chocolate and warm milk. Intrigued, I ordered a small and chose to enjoy it outdoors. The price was refreshingly reasonable, while the bakery's bright interior and refined ambiance created an inviting first impression. My drink arrived within approximately five minutes, presented elegantly in a cup and saucer. The temperature was perfectly warm--comforting without being excessively hot--and the overall presentation was quietly sophisticated but has room for improvement. Then came the taste.... The texture was exceptionally silky and smooth, with no grainy residue, excessive sweetness, or bitter aftertaste. It was rich without being heavy and indulgent without becoming overwhelming. Even better, it left behind no awkward crown of foam. I have enjoyed hot chocolate in Sicily, where the experience was quite literally a cup of melted chocolate--decadent, dense, and almost dessert-like. Tatte's interpretation was more delicate and restrained, yet equally satisfying in its own way. Tatte has now earned first place in my personal ranking. There is, however, still an opportunity to elevate the service experience. A cloth napkin and small spoon presented alongside the drink would add a more polished touch, while a subtle soupçon of finely shaved chocolate would enhance both the visual presentation and the final sip. Overall, I award Tatte's hot chocolate an A-. I look forward to seeing whether it can achieve an even higher distinction upon my next visit.

Let's face it. I like Tatte a latte!…read more Beautiful pastry case, inviting treats, Parisian-style cafe. It's a bit inconvenient that you pay at the counter but pick up hot drinks at the bar. When it's crowded you can barely hear your name. We stopped in the late afternoon and it was cool and empty. I had a delicious matcha latte and some lovely baked treat. Thanks a latte, Tatte!

The bathroom is clean and passcode-protected. The aesthetic is pretty and elegant. The man behind the counter was polite and patient, answering a couple of silly questions for me with a smile. Either way I just found Lily's Chocolate & Coffee while venturing up and down King Street, and well with the help of Yelp because this was a plan to visit later in October. But, I decided my kiddos needed a treat. Located on a corner you walk into hues of pink, florals and the smell of chocolate and coffee. I became immediately distracted by the toppings and melted chocolate. But, when I snapped out of it, I was able to place my order. I opted for the Dubai chocolate inspiration over strawberries. If I remember correctly it was around $20 five or take. The cafe is so cute. It is small and if crowded be prepared to navigate that. There is bathrooms inside but, I do not know if it is for customers or not, as they were locked when we were there. The staff were just starting for the day. But they were helpful, kind and ready to roll. Once we received our order we sat down and dug right in. The strawberries were fresh, large and draped over in chocolate, pistachio cream and katifia. This is not my first time having Dubai chocolate or Dubai inspired chocolate. I thoroughly enjoy it over strawberries. There is just something about chocolate ad strawberries. Overall a wonderful place. I highly recommend visiting

The kind where one cookie can easily be shared (or not lol ). They're rich and sweet, so if you're someone who loves a heavy dessert that feels like a treat-treat, you'll be in heaven. Easily a 10/10 for that category. What really stood out to me was the variety of flavors. I tried the strawberry matcha cookie and was honestly surprised by how much I liked it. It had a really nice balance of flavors and didn't feel gimmicky at all. It's always a risk trying something a little different, but this one definitely paid off. Another thing I appreciated was that they had a section of cookies discounted because they were made the night before. I love when places do this...it's a great way to try more flavors without spending a lot, and honestly, the cookies were still really good. Service-wise, the cashier was super helpful and patient, especially when it came to explaining flavors and giving recommendations. That always makes a difference when you're staring at a case full of options and can't decide.

I also wanted to be near an outlet and didn't see one by the tables on the wall closer to the restroom. It wasn't super busy, but a few folks came and went while I was there for a couple of hours. But I was comfortable and able to work well. I ordered an Americano to support the business. Parking is street and mostly paid, unless you walk a couple of blocks south to free 2 hour parking. I would return here, both to work and to try their beignets. It was tough to stick to my diet while everyone around me was enjoying some!
