Such great food! Plantains were freshly fried and perfectly salted. Pupusas were excellent (I recommend the pork, bean and cheese although spinach and cheese was tasty). My friend had steak tacos. Not hard to take the pen on this review for Lapluma! Stopped in on a Saturday and it was super busy. The downstairs coffee shop area was super small and the wait for a table upstairs was ~20 minutes. Wouldn't count on being able to sit which is unfortunate because they have very cute mugs! I had a cappuccino with oat milk- the espresso was good but was not a huge fan of the oat milk. It had a bit of a tang to it. It was priced on par with most coffee shops! They did have a wide selection of seasonal flavors and I'd like to try their Mayan hot chocolate at some point. Lovely location and interior with a great concept and vibe! I'm glad there's a Latino coffee shop-restaurant hybrid in the area serving all kinds of foods from various Latin American countries. I came for their popular coffee- got the famous Dirty Horchata (horchata with espresso shots) which was prepared pretty fast. It was tasty, but TOO sweet for my liking. I also expected the horchata to be smooth, but it was quite grainy (I'm never a texture snob, but I wasn't a fan of it). Overall, not bad, but not the best I've had. We decided to pop in here while shopping in Alexandria, for brunch. It's a super cute place that apparently has just been renovated (think industrial farm house style). They have a huge outdoor patio, but we elected to sit upstairs. We picked a cozy corner window and were promptly greeted by our server. I'm a bit of a coffee snob and love trying different coffee shops, and he was just extremely happy for a black coffee (he said it was strong!). I got the cold brew, and he got the endless drip coffee. He got the bacon egg and cheese croissant, I got the Brie strawberry toast. His was well portioned and mine was smaller than expected that he felt bad and was like "what did you do, order a snack?" It was pretty delicious, I just wish there was more of it to a serving. His was also delicious. As for the coffee I was a little bummed. I did not like my cold brew, yes there was ice in it, but it felt/tasted watered down and bitter from the first sip. Even with milk it didn't help me like it better. Which was unfortunate. I'm gonna just chalk it up to a bad coffee moment. I ordered two reds: Bella Ribera Del Duero 2020 - smooth, full-bodied, and an excellent introduction. La Verde - hands down my favorite. It was flavorful, balanced, and the kind of glass that makes you cancel plans and just vibe. Wine by the glass ranges from $13-$16. Non-alcoholic drinks are $3-$7. Food prices sit between $10-$18. Finally got to check out Lapluma. I am a fan of unique coffee drinks, and this definitely hit the spot. I enjoyed the iced horchata latte, and I could tell that they take their time in making drinks correctly which is always a green flag. They have a medium sized outdoor seating area which would be lovely on a nice day. I also tried a chocolate croissant and it was decent - not the best I've had, but it could be that I got it a bit later in the day, so would be willing to try other food when I come again! La Pluma is a Latin coffee and wine shop that has recently opened in Old Town. I love that they offer breakfast options at 7:00am. There is an outdoor patio which is a nice place to sit and eat. I am not usually a savory breakfast person, but I had to try the Chapin breakfast. This breakfast is a traditional Guatemalan breakfast meal that includes a fried egg, sausage, avacado, refried beans with crema. The menu said it is served with fresh fruit but I didn't get any fruit. The house made chips were divine! I wanted more of them. I also ordered the strawberry and Brie toast. The toast was lite and the strawberry flavor was well balanced. Get the dirty horchata ! I was surprised how good this drink was. La Pluma also serves wine. New cafe and bar in Alexandria that actually opens late! My friend and I enjoyed their outside terrace area. We sat at the bar seats that faced the street this past Thursday night. The decor was minimal, but warm and inviting. The cold brew I got was delicious -- it was chocolaty and nutty, the perfect medium roast with a nice after taste. Excellent new cafe and restaurant! I'm a frequent visitor to Old Town and here for a long stay-- this time i got my coffee from Lapluma every morning. Alexandria has an abundance of coffee shops but this place stands out because of its wonderful staff and GREAT menu for any time of the day! They're open late for dinner service as well as early in the morning. The first floor for to go orders is somewhat small but it's only during peak hours or if customers insist on standing in the way of others instead of thinking to move to the sides and trusting the courtesy of the line. We came on a Wednesday so we were able to grab some street parking and walk up about two minutes. We were greeted as we came in and went up to the bar area to find a seat to sit. Our server was kind and we both got the Chapin breakfast and it was sooooo good! We also got a fro-chata and I had a glass of the red wine (can't remember the name) and everything was a 10/10! I recall seeing signs that this spot was coming to Old Town ALX soon and was excited to check them out. I happened to be nearby and saw that they were finally opened and detoured to stop in. I was thoroughly impressed with the space and the menu options. Customer service was amazing and my Matcha Latte was superb! The staff was friendly and welcoming from the moment I walked through the door till the point of when I left. It really felt like being in a friend's home. That was the level of comfort that I received during my visit. Since I was short on time, I only grabbed a drink, a healthy protein bar, and a cheese Empanada. The wine part wasnt open just yet but I believe should be by now or at least within the next week or two. I would call to verify but the upstairs space and outside seating will be super nice to hang out and have a couple of glasses with friends! My empanada was so fresh and crispy and amazing! Kudos to the chef! I almost went back inside for another one but I held myself back. Haha. Some other info is the espresso machine closes at 2 pm! Just FYI! There is street parking available. It can be a busy road depending on the time of day but it's doable. Pricing was on par with the area. There are bathrooms both upstairs and downstairs. However, im not sure how one would get upstairs to the bar if have mobility difficulties. I would suggest calling to verify but it shouldn't deter you because there is seating downstairs to enjoy wine and outside, too! I hope this place becomes an OTA staple for years to come! Currently in soft opening (11 May 25), LaPluma seems like it's going to be a great addition to the area! We've been waiting for it to open ever since they started the renovation last year, and it seems to have been well worth the wait. The interior is fantastic, with the coffee/breakfast ordering downstairs (along with a couple bar seats and one 4-top), upstairs are several 2-tops, plus the wine bar with seating as well. The outdoor patio was lovely as well, just all really nicely done. The staff indicated that the menu would get bigger, but frankly even the soft opening menu was great. Baked goods were excellent, at least the couple that we tried. The cinnamon roll in particular was great: sweet but not too sweet, crunchy on the outside but pillowy on the inside, with cinnamon sugar instead of an overly-sweet frosting, and just enough citrus to have a hint without overwhelming. The veggie omelette was perfectly fine, and the red beans on the side were fantastic, but we're really looking forward to the chorizo wrap and Chapin Breakfast! Coffee was excellent as well, especially the nitro cold brew (served without ice in a mason jar) which was extremely well done. Will definitely be visiting again to try the rest of the breakfast menu, and the lunch/dinner menu! read more

It's a beautiful location with a pretty upstairs space and a nice sized patio with heaters for chilly days. We both loved the coffee, I had the maple pecan latte and thought it was balanced and not overly sweet. He had a cortado which was just as good. I really enjoyed the huevos rancheros and he enjoyed his chorizo wrap. We appreciated that the portions are not totally ginormous like at other brunch places - we were filled without being stuffed. I finally got to stop by Lapluma in Old Town, after hearing about it for a few months. The place has a relaxed vibe. When you come in, you can order a coffee or a tea, or anything else to go, you can sit on one of the outside tables, or you can sit upstairs. Since it was a bit hotter weather than planned, I skipped the outside and sat at the upstairs bar. Tried a few of the wines, and they were at the perfect temperature. I wish they had beers as well, but they do not. For small bites, I tried a few things that I recommend again: queso fundido with chorizo, the cheese empanada, and the tostones. We were in the DC area for a weekend getaway. We stayed in an airbnb private suite in old town Alexandria on North Washington Street and took a short walk to this wonderful coffee shop. I read ahead of our trip about LaPluna's dirty horchata and knew I had to try it. Oh my gosh, it did not disappoint!!! It is served cold and is a traditional horchata with an expresso shot. This is one of my favorite new spots in Alexandria. The barista staff is some of the kindest most genuine people you'll ever meet. They always have incredible special lattes on the board.
