The Breadbasket is absolutely amazing! From the food to the service, everything feels warm, welcoming, and made with love. Every time I come in, I feel less like a customer and more like family. OMG... BEST bakery in Fresno! I have so much to say about this cozy bakery!!! I'll start with the customer service. The lady who helped me was so kind and friendly. She truly made me feel welcomed and accommodated. She answered all my questions and offered a lot of suggestions, every single one was SO GOOD! She was so nice and I really enjoyed talking to her. It felt like I was at my aunts house. Everything I tried from here was amazing. First, I got half a dozen lahmajoon (Armenian meat pizza) for just $15 which is the most decent price in town. They're so much more expensive in LA. The flavor was perfect and it was a filling and satisfying lunch. I also got the spinach and cheese byorek which was huge! As soon as I put it in my mouth, it was love at first bite. I don't know what kind of magic they baked into that, but it's addicting and I'm craving more of it!! I got their famous banana cannoli and it was so creamy and dreamy. That flavor of banana really shines through and the shell had perfect texture. I tried some of their other flavors of cannoli as well and each one was just as delicious and flavorful. Their gata, ohhhh their gata.... Wow. It was just the right amount of sweet and it danced in my mouth. Pair it with tea or coffee and your taste buds will thank you. It was soft enough to not crumble everywhere when you take a bite and the filling was out of this world. Even their bread (called Barbari) was fluffy and smelled like heaven. It's a versatile bread that you can use with anything and it's even yummy on its own. I made a sandwich with it and I don't think I can go back to regular bread. We stopped at Bread Basket with our daughter's Armenian boyfriend Alex on our way to Sequoia, and it will be a must-visit from now on. Mike and Sarah welcomed us as family and gave us so much delicious food to try. It really felt like we were being welcomed into their home. We bought lahmajoun (with Harris Ranch beef - so warm and delicious!), cannolis (so many flavors!), baklava (!!) and some Armenian cheese. I love. This place feels like home and Mike and Sara treat you like family the minute you walk in. Bread Basket Bakery has been around for decades, originally operated by Mike's mom Rita. I've come here yeaaars ago when we first moved to the Central Valley and we connected then. Years later we ran into Mike, who is also an amazing craftsman and we discovered that Ms Rita is his mom. She since retired a year ago and Mike and his beautiful wife Sara took over to keep the family legacy alive. They bake everything in house, fresh and provide home baked goods away from home to many people from our culture. Everything here tastes fresh, delicious, savory, flavorful. My daughters spent way too much time in the thrift store in the same shopping center so I was walking around the other shops and there was a lady outside of this bakery and said I had to try the cheese boreg so I bought one just to give it a shot. They warmed it up and it was delicious - shared a few bites with the family and next thing I knew we had tried the cheese, the spinach/cheese, and the spicy varieties they had. Not even a week later we were back and not only did we get a few more we also bought grilled chicken/rice pilaf/salad/hummus/pita plates they were making for that day. Everything was delicious. Not sure if they do the chicken all of the time but we are about to head over and see. Also the family that runs this bakery are all super nice and suggest all kinds of things that we really enjoyed. I came here for the first time last week. Their Lahmajoon is one of the best I've ever had (and I'm including from Glendale, Burbank, and other places in Fresno). It's much "meatier" than others. The person who helped me was so nice! I mentioned I had a very busy day of driving/meetings and still had to drive home for 3 hours. In my favorite bit of irony, I stop here after a trip to the dentist and buy a dozen sweets. I think they're paklava, the Armenian version of baklava, but they aren't drenched in honey. Just do as I do - look at the front counter where they're stacked in containers to-go, point and say "I want one of those". I've also tried the boureg, which is delicious, but I'm a sweet-tooth kind of gal. There's a small selection of grocery store goods. Do yourself a favor and pick up a container of labnah, which tastes like yogurt but has the consistency of cream cheese. Spread it on toast with jam and you're in heaven. The lady behind the counter is sweet as can be (and what gorgeous eyes!). Don't be afraid because you don't know what's what - just GO! read more
