We stopped at Bread Basket with our daughter's Armenian boyfriend Alex on our way to Sequoia, and it will be a must-visit from now on. Mike and Sarah welcomed us as family and gave us so much delicious food to try. It really felt like we were being welcomed into their home. We bought lahmajoun (with Harris Ranch beef - so warm and delicious!), cannolis (so many flavors!), baklava (!!) and some Armenian cheese. We'd like to come back on a Saturday for Mike's chicken kebab plates. Can't recommend this wonderful place enough -- you won't be disappointed!

I love. This place feels like home and Mike and Sara treat you like family the minute you walk in. Bread Basket Bakery has been around for decades, originally operated by Mike's mom Rita. I've come here yeaaars ago when we first moved to the Central Valley and we connected then. Years later we ran into Mike, who is also an amazing craftsman and we discovered that Ms Rita is his mom. She since retired a year ago and Mike and his beautiful wife Sara took over to keep the family legacy alive. They bake everything in house, fresh and provide home baked goods away from home to many people from our culture. Everything here tastes fresh, delicious, savory, flavorful. Not overpoweringly sweet and just perfection. You gotta try the Bouregs. Highly highly recommend. This is a hidden gem in the Central Valley.

I highly recommend the Babaganush appetizer with homemade pita bread. Followed by the freshest most beautiful salad I've had in a long time. The main course arrived and we dug In anxiously! My wife had the Beef Kabob plate with pilaf and I had the Lamb tenderloin dinner. We were amazed at how everything on our plates was cooked perfectly and tasted great! The beef kabob tasted like Filet mignon and the lamb was the most tender and tasty I have ever had. The service was great and we can't wait to bring friends to try this amazing restaurant. Thanks to all the staff for a great experience.

The crust was paper-thin, shatteringly crispy, and topped with juicy, savory minced beef and warm, fragrant spices that hit perfectly without being heavy. The Cheese Borek and Spicy Borek were equally crave-worthy--light, flaky, golden dough wrapped around a creamy, mildly salty white cheese filling that was rich but not overwhelming. Every bite was comforting and dangerously easy to finish. Missed out on the Ajarakan (sold out!), but that just means a guaranteed return. Easy 5 stars. Bookmarked and not skipping this stop next time I'm in Fresno.

So it was a bit disappointing for us, since most of what we wanted to try wasn't available (Spinach Borek, Ajarakan, Mini Khachapuri, and Nazook Gata). I had 2 Lahmajune (aka Lahmacun, Lahmajun), which I really loved. These were delicious, like a super thin pizza crust, topped with chopped beef in a flavorful sauce with spices and bits of veggies (onions, parsley, red peppers, etc). I also had a Spicy Borek, which was good, but I didn't love the filling-to-dough ratio on this one. I tasted the dough more than filling. My husband, lamenting the lack of Spinach Borek that he was looking forward to, had only 2 Maniesh (aka Manakeesh, Manakish, etc.) for lunch (and a Tahini bread for a later dessert). The owner who helped us, heated up our order (since it was all baked earlier and cool by now), but my husband later told me, his were barely warm. He really liked the topping of the Maniesh (Za'atar, which is a blend of several different spices including oregano & thyme). But he found the pita-like bread the Za'atar was spread on too dry, and overwhelmed the Za'atar. He enjoyed the Tahnini bread more, being just a sweet, light dough. Prices were quite reasonable, except the Spicy Borek seemed a bit much, compared to the other items on the menu. (Also, the Ajarakan is double the Spicy Borek, at $13. Maybe it's worth it, though; I can't say, since it wasn't available.) Due to the prices, I'm rounding up my rating to 4*.

We updated our reservation to 20 guests the day of (6 were children ages 1 to 13). Although we were seated by 12:30 p.m., They took our order at around 12:45pm. We were disappointed to hear that they were out of lamb. The drinks didn't arrive until 1:30, appetizers around 2pm and our meals not until about 3/3:15pm. The restaurant was warm, guests were thirsty, and no one checked on us or offered refills. When my husband asked about the delay, we were told it was our fault for having more guests, despite updating them ahead of time. No apology was given. At the end, there was no effort to make things right. The tables weren't cleared of dirty dishes. We were even denied plates for a birthday cake because they "didn't want to wash dishes," forcing us to buy our own. What should have been a special celebration turned into a very frustrating experience. We won't be returning.

And so, the rice was so delicious, lamb so succulent that it almost melted in my mouth. The server was so kind and sweet, even with a jam packed midday lunch crowd. Everyone there seemed like they were being treated like family and like they eat there all the time. Aside from the above, which would easily be enough for a positive review here, there's even more. As I rushed out of the restaurant, I left my credit card. In my haste to be the 3-hour traffic back up to the Bay Area, I completely forgot until I got halfway back home, stopped for gas, and realized I couldn't pay for my gas with my card. I called them and luckily the same gal who was my server picked up and remembered me, confirmed she had my CC and told me to come back and get it. I told her I was back up in Oakland and asked a HUUUUUUGE Favor of them, to mail my CC back to me to save me the 6 hour round trip drive and ALL the headache I'd incur of getting a new card and having to redo all of the auto-pay set for countless bills with a new card number. Guess what? They did it! They took time from their busy lives, put a customer's needs first and saw past my human error and so generously sent my card to my home. Places like this family owned, down home place restore my faith in humanity and make me wish more places like this existed all over. The server was very kind and built a good rapport with our table. We ordered and it took quite long to get our food. We sat down around 5:40 and ordered shortly after, received the app at 6:07 and received our food at 6:40. The food was delicious and have no complaints there. The falafel was flavorful and the chicken shawarma was moist and delicious. One issue we had though, My friend saw a wax pepper on one of the plates and asked if she can have another one. The food runner came back and brought a side dish of peppers and a side dish of pickled beets. Our server then comes out and asks whose tab he should put that on. We were a little confused because they didn't mention it would he a charge and she only asked for 1 extra not an entire bowl + a bowl of something she didn't ask for. But she took the charge and it was about $5 combined for both, a charge that wasn't prefaced beforehand. Nonetheless, the food was amazing and our server was very sweet. The restaurant was packed so it's nice to see they are busy for a local business!
