Lunch in a part of downtown LA that has not been ruined by pretentious Hipsters & their dogs. Among Best Bread/Cafe places in LA. Sitting outside on the picnic table, surrounded by Brick buildings (So not LA) and next to the 7th Street LA River Bridge, while having wonderful sandwiches was a great way to have lunch. This place is a little gem! I was working on a music video right across the street from this place and the Producer / SteadiCam Op Ari Robbins was kind enough to cater us with this food! Outstanding! Fresh to the max. I had a mozzerella tomato pesto sandwich on the "Olive Stick" roll. Amazing. The bread, obviously was soft and heavenly. I should have ordered the "On The Bird" turkey sandwich because when I had a bite of that one it was mind blowing. LOVED this place. Small local kind of downtown eatery with very friendly staff. Love everything here! Their panini sandwich, Going Dutch on ciabatta bread is maybe my favorite sandwich ever, it's super simple but has lots of flavor. Their bread is amazing and makes everything better. Yelp defines 5 Star "as good as it gets" and for the Bread Lounge ; 5 stars it is. We first came about the Lounge after having some coffee down the block at Stumptown. Upon entering the Lounge, we were warmly greeted while noticing the activity of their bread makers in the bread making Lounge. They were cranking out loaf after loaf after loaf. We began talking with some of the workers who took pride in how the business has grown into a very well respected wholesale baker.. And when it comes to tasting their bread there so many terrific options for hot and cold sandwiches that it took some time to choose. We had the roasted veggie sandwich on a Ciabatta with Kalamata Olives. The bread had a lovely texture.. not too heavy yet firm enough to handle the sandwich ingredients. Plus a giant salad called the Levant which consists of Romaine lettuce, cucumber, tomato, fire roasted bell pepper, red onion, Kalamata olives, Feta, sunflower seeds, house croutons, parsley and lemon-olive oil drizzle. Yummy and get this.. The portions are huge, . The sandwich and the salad was more than enough for two hungry folks. And we have the Arnold Palmer as a delightful and refreshening beverage to go along with the order. This is by far one of the best options in DTLA and the Arts district when it comes to great food for a good price in a great setting; run by local entrepreneurs bringing real value to the local community. I go to Bread Lounge for lunch all the time. Their sandwiches come with a side green salad with the most delicious dressing. The bakery is in the restaurant and you can see the bakers making bread. The frozen mint lemonade is delightful. The food is a little bit too pricey for every day. There is a valet most days for $2.50. Sometimes it takes a few minutes to drop and pick up the car. The restaurant is busy, especially at lunch time. I've always been able to find a table by the time my food is ready. You order at a counter but they bring your food to the table. read more

Definitely a place I'll come back when in L.A. I had the opportunity to try both their croissant and one of their sandwiches. The croissant was very good, with a thick, crunchy crust. I have to admit I was worried by its massive size (usually croissants in France are much smaller), but it was well executed and definitely a good breakfast. The sandwich was excellent. I had the Up The Stream(?), with smoked salmon. It was one of the pricier sandwiches (bc of the salmon), but came with a side salad (and a plastic fork to eat it - a nice touch for take-out) which was a nice surprise. The sandwich was a classic combination of flavors which all came together perfectly. They also let you pick the bread it comes with: I picked the baguette. From what I could tell it was done perfectly - I definitely would buy their bread as well based on that experience. Great bakery, will no doubt come again. read more

The pastries look delicious and I was super excited to find this bakery. As I was ordering, my fiance noticed that one of the staff members cut his finger on the bread slicer and instead of washing his hand and closing the wound, he continued to prepare food. Sadly, he was in charge of preparing our food. Thankfully he noticed this and we were able to leave without eating the food that would put us at risk of contracting a blood borne illness. This place obviously doesn't teach sanitary food handling and goodness knows what else was prepared improperly. read more

I love this place. My co-workers and I always come here and I am obsessed with the focaccia with Brie and chicken... it is literally to die for. Everything I had here was awesome! I visited for 5 days from northern CA and ended up eating here every morning for breakfast and twice for lunch. The staff is unbelievably friendly and helpful. Most of the pastries are delicious (the French pastries aren't all that authentic) and the Jerusalem bagel is a must-have, as well as the banana bread. The sandwiches are also perfect! They are not dry at all and come with a side salad with delicious dressing. My favorite sandwich was Against the Stream and was loaded with smoked salmon and tasted great on the daily bread. read more

Amazing bread, beyond super-tasty. You can watch the bread being made, and have salad or sandwich in the cafe (safe and secure parking behind the cafe). Staff are always friendly and welcoming.
