Chicken and waffles
Isabelle V.

This review is long overdue, as I've been coming here since 2015 and it has consistently remained a local favorite for a breakfast that never misses. The staff is always very friendly, the food is solid, and the prices are fair, typically ranging from $9 to $18 per plate. On my most recent visit, we had the chicken and waffles, loco moco, and beignets. While the vanilla beignets are my personal favorite and the chicken was perfectly crispy, the real stars of the show were the waffles--they were incredibly crispy, sweet, and soft.

Don't be surprised if there's a line waiting to get in. Very popular among the locals but they offer something for everyone. The food is fresh and served quickly. A relaxing interior feels cozy. From basic breakfast to specialty dishes you can't go wrong.

Humble restaurant with good food. I have been here before and have tried a few of their breakfast. In this visit, we bought beignet as niece was craving. It was satisfying. Crisps on the outside and warm and soft on the inside.

Cute local brunch spot! Came for a birthday party and they accommodated our group of 8 on a Sunday. Staff is attentive, cozy and homey feel. Well-maintained restaurant. Affordable pricing for delicious food! Got the chicken & waffles and country fried steak lunch. CHICKEN & WAFFLES: really great waffles. Crispy on the outside and fluffy on the inside. Fried chicken was not too dry and was flavorful COUNTRY FRIED STEAK LUNCH: the gravy is a bit salty but the salad balanced it out well. The salad dressing was a basic olive oil balsamic vinaigrette. The fries were thin and crispy My boyfriend and I got there early and ordered a mimosa for the birthday girl, which our waitress told us to just give us a signal and she would bring out. Our waitress was kind enough to also bring out some treats for the birthday girl: dessert beignets! Would recommend!!

People say that it's a hidden gem, which is quite true because it's hard to find the location of the spot and not many people seem to know this place unless they tell their friends about it. The place looks really small, crowded, and decorative inside but if you walk more towards the back, there's probably more seatings. I honestly expect this place to be packed where I have to wait for more than 20 minutes, but again, it doesn't really seem to receive a lot of attention. Honestly, the food is good and portion size is neither too small nor big. Usually, some restaurants serve bigger portions. At least I didn't get full though and save my stomach for lunch. I was quite surprised when the pancake combo is $11 ($9 before 9am) while three-stack is $12.50. Price is quite reasonable due to portion size. The issue is when I needed my change after paying for the meal. I guess that either the staff forgot about it or some miscommunication. Not sure though, but they seem to be very busy, which I understand. I was expecting them to get it as soon as I pay for it, but went straight to doing other tasks.

Crab Cake Benedict

You really can't go wrong starting with some warm beignets, soo good! I had the crab cake Benedict, and as a bit of a Benedict connoisseur, I loved it. It was delicious! I also love that you have the option of either a side of rice or potatoes. I opted for the potatoes this time. It had been years since we last ate here, but we'll definitely be back much sooner this time.

Chicken & Waffles, Korean Barbeque Lunch Special Bow and Chocolate 5 Piece Beignets

This used to be my goto breakfast place back when I lived in the Bay. The staff is always very nice and accommodating. Giving out recommendations and small talk. My favorite goto items is the chicken and waffles and their Beef Korean Bowl. The korean bowl comes with veggies, rice and rhe meat. They also give you their own type of bibimbap sauce. Which gives a whole other level of flavors. Also, their serving sizes are good and fillings. Today I tried their chocolate beignets for the first time. And they were pretty good. But I think next time I'll stick to the Vanilla flavor.

This place is a Union City staple. Known for their Beignets and them being small business has helped it uped its traffic. I think place is nice, small but a great breakfast place. Priced are good compared to other places. Ambiance is feels cozy like they put their personality into it. What I got : Eggs Benedict 4/5 Beignets : 4/5 Garlic fries 5/5 Chicken and Waffles 4/5 Eggs Benedict has 2 muffins, 3 eggs, and 3 Canadian Bacon, served with potatoes. I thought it was good but I felt like the potatoes could of been more crispy Beignets were nice but felt like they could of been more fluffy. We did it with a drizzle with both chocolate sauce and vanilla sauce. Garlic fries were really good, lots of garlic and nice and crispy My friend got the chicken and Waffles. Both were nice and crispy.

Such a gem of a small, family-run business! My husband and I stopped by Break Your Fast on a whim while exploring new local spots, and we're so glad we did. The staff was incredibly warm and welcoming, and you can tell they put a lot of care into what they do. While the beignets weren't quite the traditional fluffy style I expected--they leaned more biscuit-like in texture--they were still tasty. If you try them, definitely go for the homemade vanilla sauce--it's rich, creamy, and pulls it all together. My favorite, though, was the fruit cup. I'm usually not into melon-heavy mixes, so I was thrilled to see one full of fresh berries instead. It was refreshing and felt like a step above your typical fruit side. If you're looking to support a passionate local team and enjoy some creative, comforting breakfast bites, Break Your Fast is absolutely worth the visit.

*New Item!* Loco Moco

We came in on Sunday and were given our choice of seating. The waitress was really kind and welcoming. Immediately took our drink orders and let us look over the menu. Unfortunately the second waitress wasn't as kind or welcoming. She seemed impatient and a bit dismissive of us despite there being no other patrons. We ordered a loco moco, garlic fries, chicken & waffles and a side of kimchi. The garlic fries were super oily but had a lot of garlic on it and were crispy. The loco moco was really disappointing with the small patty and white gravy??? Loco moco in my opinion can not be served without brown gravy. I did put a piece of kimchi with every bite just to help hide the lack of flavor in the gravy and texture and it was perfect. Kimchi is for sure authentic Korean kimchi, perfectly sour and crunchy. The chicken and waffles really left little to the imagination. Chicken was like a katsu cutlet, dry, overcooked and a bit lacking. The waffles were small and only crispy. Weren't very fluffy inside and overall the meal was dry without the maple syrup. We were maybe half way to a 3 quarters way through our meal when we were a bit abruptly brought our check. At this point there's only 1 other table with customers and we were at a 3 star review trajectory. The middle aged Korean woman who we hadn't seen at all during our meal checked in on us then just dropped the check while we were happily eating and chatting. Out of the 3 staff members we encountered, 1 was absolutely perfect and polite and nice. The other 2 were really working against the team with the lacking service and premature check delivery. I would've come back until that happened. There's better breakfast spots in union city, Fremont and Newark area.

I had the country breakfast! It was very tasty!

The food was great. I enjoyed the Good service and enjoyed the music Playlist. I have visited for the 2nd time. I like the early bird special!

The food ended up being the masterpiece. We essentially tried to defeat the menu and the menu won. 10/10, no notes. The Highlights: Hawaiian Sliders: Absolutely bomb. The perfect balance of sweet and savory. I'm still thinking about them 24 hours later. Crispy Quesatacos with Chicken Tinga: Perfectly seasoned, juicy, and packed with flavor. It's hard to find chicken Tinga in a crispy Quesataco this authentic in a pop-up setting, but they nailed it flavor bomb Pupusas & Tacos: My friend and I went in on these and they did not disappoint. The pupusa was thick, cheesy, and had that perfect crisp on the outside. The Verdict: There wasn't a single miss on the menu. We sat outside since we had a doggo with us. When Han saw that we also had my toddler with us, she immediately brought out a coloring page, crayons, and water straw cup. I always appreciate places that think of the little ones! It was going to be a bit cramped to fit everything on one table so Han proactively suggested adding another table. Truly appreciate how attentive, thoughtful, and accommodating she was. For the 3.5 of us, we ordered 3 starters and 1 main. My girlfriends don't stuff themselves like I do, so we had plenty of food to share and bring home. First of all, definitely order the SMOKED BRISKET. I was shocked at how good this was. Haven't had brisket this good in a long time. The meat was so tender, flavorful, and had a perfect amount of fattiness to it. The baked beans, potato salad, and cornbread were all delicious too. I want to order this every time I go back now. The deviled eggs comes with 5. Love how the chili crunch and pickled cucumbers provide contrasting textures to the deviled eggs itself. All the ingredients and flavors really complemented each other. The garlic parmesan fries were yummy and come with your choice of sauce. And lastly, the hot artichoke and jalapeño dip comes with slices of sourdough baguette. I enjoyed this but wish they toasted the bread. Also, they have a wonderful selection of alcohol. I'm 6 weeks postpartum and breastfeeding so I sadly opted out of drinking this time around but looking forward to coming back and getting a cocktail to go along with the smoked brisket :P

I ordered the Stir Fry Basil Chicken Bento and was immediately impressed by how much you get. The portion is generous, especially for the price! It was loaded with protein and served with two different vegetable sides and a hard boiled egg. It feels like a complete, well-rounded meal rather than the sad, sparse bentos you sometimes end up with. The basil chicken itself was the star cause it was juicy, aromatic, and had just the right kick on mild. If you have any heat tolerance at all, I'd say go mild without hesitation. It's flavorful without being overwhelming. Ordering is super easy through a kiosk, my food was ready in about 8 minutes, and the staff were genuinely friendly. The whole experience was smooth from start to finish. I'll definitely be back to work through more of the menu. With the Blanca, definitely squeeze the lemon wedge over the pizza before devouring! The cheese pizza was a hit with our nephew. We could've ordered another Blanca instead of the special. There were large chunks of bell peppers and onions under the red sauce that could've been sliced thinner. We had this boxed with over half remaining. In addition to the pizzas, we also added roasted cauliflower, wings, and the meatballs. Both their Buffalo and BBQ wings were fully sauced. Maybe instead of their ranch, will consider asking for more of the applicable sauce. Meatballs were drowned in what appeared and tasted like the same red sauce in the special pizza.. Which now makes sense because both have Zachary in their menu name. These were also boxed up. Roasted cauliflower was well seasoned and a good balance between all the red sauce. Our original server clocked out and a new server took over- that's the story the gentleman/new server shared with us. Awkward. Even at Olive Garden, the server has taken the initiative to tell us of a server change.

Plantano Fritas (4/5) I love a plantains and these were delicious and less oily than other which I appreciate! Personal preference is a I prefer a little more sweetly caramelized plantains, but I did really enjoy this. The dish comes with a white creamy sauce and a refried bean dip - both yummy and not overpowering in flavor. Papusas: Lots of flavors to choose from! And in general, for all the papusas, the papusa batter is wonderful and the porportion of filling to papusa is perfect. 2a. Calabaza Papusa - mixed cheese + zuchinni (4/5) This was the most cheesey papusa, where the cheese was the heavy lifter. I enjoyed it and every bite had a nice cheese pull too it. I would have liked to see a little more zucchini green, and for it to add to the textures. 2b. Frijol y Queso Papusa - mixed cheese + refried beans (5/5) My favorite! Can't go wrong with a bean and cheese papusa and this was so so good. I recommend this classic pairing of flavors anywhere. I was thinking about this papusa for days. 2c. Chicken Papusa - mixed cheese + chicken (5/5) This was also really good. the chicken is mixed in with the cheese, so every bite has both, which was nice. There was also a lovely seasoning which balanced all the flavors beautifully. 3. Churros: This usually comes with vanilla ice cream, and the server warned us they didn't have any in stock. We were fine with that because we love churros. When we were complete with our papusas, they served us our churros and surprised with apple slices instead of ice cream which was a lovely touch.
