Previously named Jimmy's Place, Break Your Fast has the same menu offerings. A petite restaurant, so seating fills very quickly. Once we were seated, we browsed our menus. Before looking for my main course, I still wanted to know if beigents were available. Coming off a recent trip from Louisiana, I was craving for some good old fashioned beignets. Break Your Fast serves beignets and we placed an order of that. Five pieces for around $3 isn't a bad deal. Lightly sprinkled with powdered sugar and topped and drizzled with sweetened condense milk, tasted great. Soft and fluffy, bringing me back memories of my visit to Louisiana. For my breakfast main course, I went with the corn beef and hash benedict. Corn beef and eggs are one my favorite food combinations. This dish is composed of two English muffins, topped with a bed of corn beef and hash, two poached eggs covered with hollendaise sauce. With this entree, you can side choices of potatoes or rice to go with it! My Asian side wanted rice, but I went with the traditional potatoes for breakfast. Everything tasted great! The corn beef and hash were nicely flavored. The eggs were soft and runny. The muffins were toasted, yet soft to bite on to. The potatoes were a mixture of crispy and soft, not over cooked. Let me begin this by saying that I really wanted to like this place. When you walk in, you notice that the indoor seating is limited. But it's nice and cozy because it has this small, warm breakfast feel to it. If you're looking for a quick meal, this isn't the place to go. It's more for sitting down to have breakfast/brunch and talk/hang out. With that being said, the service was good. The exception being that it took a bit longer to get our check and takeout boxes. The beignets came first and how can you not love them? I prefer mine on the sweeter side, so I did find that I wanted more sugar. But if you like a less sweet beignet, this is your place! I ordered the eggs Benedict and was unfortunately underwhelmed. The Canadian bacon was overcooked and on the slightly rubbery side. The hollandaise was overpoweringly peppery. Very difficult to review as I liked it better when it was 'Jimmy's place' before it became 'Break Your Fast'. Was that too cruel to say?! The restaurant is small and there are many regulars coming here. It's right next to the Union City Bart station. The restaurant was made up of guys taking care of the restaurant but there was one girl who refilled our coffees. They were all nice and very helpful. We got lucky and got a seat inside the restaurant that would have fit 4 people. We were offered it. We already got our coffees and a table for two became open. They tried to offer it to us but we were already comfortable. I guess they wanted to sit more since we came at a perfect timing when it was not too busy. The crowd came after us. My hubby ordered 'Jimmy's skillet' and I got the 'Scrambled smoked salmon'. The wait for our food was not too bad. My hubby's food came 5 mins after mine though. Mine was not very tasteful and I had to add salt and pepper to it. That is rare for me and that will reflect on my ratings. I put the cream cheese it came with on the side so I can add if I wanted. I asked for salsa for my eggs. I would suggest to add the smoked salmon last when it's not cooked as they over cooked it with the eggs. It didn't have that fresh salty taste. Capers added a little salt but everything was kind of blah even the fried potatoes. I also received my potatoes cold but the rest was ok temperature. I know I should have said something but we were in a rush to eat. My hubby's meal was a big portion and had better flavors but had a lot of potatoes and veggies in it. It was at least better than mine. I hope the food gets better the next time I come back. If I give the place another chance, I will update my review. The place is clean and decent. I remember passing by Break Your Fast many times, but I'd always been amused at the name and never thought about going in.. until one fateful day, when my friend and I were craving some kind of breakfast food but didn't know what exactly (everyone has those days, right?). I ordered for delivery from door dash the 3 egg breakfast, scrambled with potatoes. As you can see from the photos, the only thing they got right was the corned beef hash. I don't eat yolk unless it's scrambled so it's really just going to go to waste. I tried calling 5 times and let it ring for about 5 minutes each time but nobody answered so I couldn't get my order corrected and I called at 12:15pm during their operating hours. I'm extremely disappointed and upset that they can't even pick up a phone let alone get an order right. Definitely a hidden gem in Union City! Formerly known as Jimmy's Place, Break Your Fast is a wonderful place to have brunch at. I seriously want to try everything on the menu. This time, I got the corn beef hash benedict with a side of potatoes. Sprinkle some pepper and pour out some ketchup and Tabasco sauce, mm mmm mmmm! My friend and I split the beignets (5 for only $2.50) and man were they heavenly. Make sure you eat it fresh because it will get a bit soggy if you let it sit out for too long. When we opened the box, I could instantly tell these were not going to be hot and wouldn't taste how they should. Sometimes the reviews on Yelp drive me bananas! I like to read the full gamut, five stars to one star reviews. So I read things like the benedicts here are fantastic and the hollandaise is gritty and salty. I read the negative reviews and start to get nervous. Then I remember the most important thing is to try it and decide for myself. I suppose that's why I'm a Yelper. So on to the review. First, I was all nervous (I'm starting to worry about myself) about getting there in time to beat the crowd. I'm not opposed to waiting, but seriously... I prefer not to (duh, right?). So we arrived just before 8:00 on Sunday and the place was pretty empty. Perfect! First, the coffee was good. It wasn't Hippies Brew good, but I can say it wasn't bad, which means it was good. I read several reviews about the coffee being bitter and weak. It was not bitter. It was mostly nondescript, but good. I had several cups (the cups were small, but they had flowers on them, so that's nice) with refills that were never late. We started off with the beignets. They were tasty. Crispy on the outside and light and airy on the inside. We've had apple and pineapple fritters in Florida that were really much better, but I can't complain about something so sweet and delicately delicious. I opted for the Krabbycake Benedict. I wasn't expected ocean fresh crab cakes with hardly any breading and I wasn't disappointed. The crab cakes were typical - fried and heavily breaded, but that doesn't mean they weren't good. Mixed with the perfectly poached eggs and a fine hollandaise, they imparted just enough of a flavor to let me know I was eating a Krabbycake Benedict and not one with smoked salmon. The egg yellows escaped the eggs and flowed down onto the crab cakes making for many moist, tasty morsels of crab, egg and english muffin. The potatoes were good. My first impression was they were bland, but as I continued with breakfast, they seemed to compliment the meal more and more. At times they were the perfect sponge for bits of crab, egg and flowing yellow yolk. The meal was good and I was FULL. The staff was attentive and very friendly. I had dinner here last night with my family and parents. It had been exactly 4 years since I had last eaten here (going here was so unexpected that I didn't have my camera on me). Mon & Wed-Fri 7 a.m.-2:30 p.m.; 6-11 p.m.; Sat & Sun 7 a.m.-3 p.m.; 6-11 p.m. (My parents were surprised to discover recently that Break Your Fast is closed on Tuesdays.) The seating capacity is only 41 (29 inside; 12 outside). It's best to go here on a weekday. There were only 6 other people around. One of the women looked familiar to me. Anyway, she was shaking her leg so much at one point that it was like she was having a seizure. An Asian couple own the restaurant. They're the best cooks (they're also more professional than the other staff). The two young guys around yesterday could be better cooks. "They're learning," my dad said. Beignets: 5 for $2.50. I was mad at myself for forgetting to order some. My mom likes them and thinks that the "old people" would have made them well. She's not confident that the young guys would have. Still, I should have ordered them right away. The unisex restroom is to the left of the counter. The music was an issue for me. I sat right by the speakers, but it couldn't be helped (there's only one table that can seat 6). Anyway, our server couldn't hear me at first when I said that I needed a table for 6. I also thought of the songs as "sleepy soul" (the soul songs were long and dull). Let's Ketchup: I didn't enjoy the music, but I liked the ambiance overall. Shortly before we left, my son stared at the big yellow star near the doors. Break Your Fast used to be named Jimmy's Place. Like in the past, the menu is pretty vast. There are over 90 selections. There are even some Early Bird Specials. My mom had to ask for the dinner menu. It mainly features Asian dishes. I wanted another refill, but I knew that the server would be MIA once he gave us the bill. I give the guy credit, though, for being quick and fairly friendly. Our total was $45. My mom wanted to leave a $9 tip, but I made it clear that it wasn't warranted (our server was good, but not THAT good). Still, a $7 tip was left. A woman was here with her son. The woman added a lot of salt to her bowl of food. Her son was mainly on his phone. He seemed to be having a nice time, but I don't know if he really liked his food. Note: All prices include tax. Fountain Drinks: $1.65. I give the restaurant credit. A lot of places now charge about $3. Patty Melt: $8.23. My mom liked her small salad and Thousand Island dressing. Her patty melt was nicely sized, but she said that her meat was too pink. Breakfast Burrito: $9.33. They're compact and tasty (I ordered one in the past). I'm not surprised that my dad ordered one. My linguiça wasn't fatty or greasy, but there was no kick to it (I probably should have asked for a hot link instead- there are a few options if you order a Meat & Cheese omelette). I was disappointed. I received an adequate serving, but my rice was just average. It was lightly coated with butter, but it needed more. My English muffin was pretty good. There were really no issues. I should have ordered a side item. I was not full after eating my meal. Assorted Fresh Fruit ($2.74): 8/10. I just asked for a cup of grapes. They were for my son, but I had at least 5 (my son made all these goofy faces whenever I took one). They were firm enough, but a bit sour. Just For Kids: Grilled cheese with french fries: $4.39. I give the French fries a 5/10. My son liked them, but they were very bland. They were badly in need of salt or some kind of a facelift. My cousin Andrew could tell that this place gets quite busy (and was busy) on days like these. We got seated after waiting a short 10 minutes drooling over all the plates being brought out. The menu was simple and straight forward, but we asked for suggestions anyways. The waitress was quite helpful pointing out top choices and recommendations for us no0bs. We had no idea what a beignet was, but we ordered it because she said it was really good. OMG it was the fluffiest, cream filled pastry I've experienced. The chicken was not the traditional drumsticks or thighs, but were breaded nicely & super tender & juicy!! The waffles were crispy and delicious. I also liked the dipping white gravy sauce for the chicken, it went super well with the dish. Totally worth $9.95! My Mom enjoyed her lunch a lot & kept raving about her Grilled Pollock (fish). It's disturbing to me how few good brunch spots there are in the Tri-City area. No really! Mind-boggling! My brother and I wanted to catch up over brunch while I was visiting back home. The youngsters working here had no time for smiles (not even just one). The waitress was rushed when I had a question. The food was brought out with ten minute intervals between my brother's meal and my own. His was pretty cold by the time we started eating. FOOD: Brother's chicken and waffles were both deep fried...is that necessary? I think waffles could have been spared the grease. The portion was very small and the gravy for the chicken was flavorless. My corned beef eggs Benedict were off as well. The sauce was odd, the eggs were undercooked and the yolk spilled all the way across my giant plate, smothering the house potatoes. The biscuit was tough and hard to cut into...just a mess! I came with my family on a slow Sunday and I must have came on an off day because service was also slow. Our meals came out at different times which was kind of annoying because everyone was done while I was still eating. Also, no seasoning. It was like eating a boiled pc of chicken without even putting salt and pepper on it. The potatoes were the same. Then, they add grilled onions onto the benedict. Why? The guy that seems to own the place was attentive, personable-- really connects with customers and makes sure they enjoy their experience. We had to ask about our beignets twice and he comped them for taking so long! Thank you. Way smaller interior than I imagined. Indoor seating accommodates around 26 and 16 outside, pet friendly out there. Expect a wait during brunch hours. They have 3 early bird breakfast specials listed on the right bottom corner of the menu, $5 between 7-9am, $6 after. Special #2 comes with 2 pancakes, 1 egg, and 2 sausage/bacon. Lots of breakfast options! They have the lunch menu on the other side. I went for Jimmy's Skillet with linguica, bell peppers, mushrooms, onions, cheddar, and 3 eggs. Comes with toast, I got rye. They butter toast for you, jam's on the table. Instead of potatoes or rice, I asked for crispy hash browns. I was surprised my skillet arrived in a bowl and was the right portion size for me to finish. Others have stated they had enough to take home. My friend decided on classic eggs Benedict, which came with 3 poached eggs. I ordered the crabby patty Benedict to go and it looked good. Local brunch spot that also opens back up at 6pm for dinner. Little holenin the wall breakfast place. Good food good hospitality. If you drive too fast you will miss it. Nothing special about the food but it is good. Would try if you have the time. Best time is early through the week as it is very busy on weekends and very tiny so it is long wait. read more

The service here is so friendly and sweet, with our server checking in on us pretty frequently. This place is so cute; the outside seating is perfect for Sunday brunch or playing catch up with a friend. The inside is small but not in a very congested or crowded way. I really recommend the beignets. I read a lot of previous reviews with people raving about them so I was pretty excited to try them out. I ordered them and was not disappointed. They were perfectly cooked and the vanilla sauce was so good! Not too sweet and just right. They were so delicious - plus you get 5 for $2.50! The corned beef hash Benedict was pretty good. It's a small mom and pop shop so be prepared to wait for seating since it's so popular. First item we tried from the menu: yes we went with the desserts first the beignets are Super cute light and fluffy but instead of powder sugar they put a cream drizzle over it that make it top notch. $2.50 a plate you must order if just to try it... But trust me you'll like them. I had the corn beef hash Benedict. The eggs were cooked perfectly and how can you go wrong with for beef hash mmmm portions are large I got three eggs a lot of corn beef and there were three English muffin halves and a side of a lot of potatoes not bad for 10 bucks. My sister got the side order of chicken fried steak and a side of an egg and loved it. It was the perfect portion size for her. My other sister for biscuits and gravy it was so good but also a large portion that she couldn't finish all the biscuits. My bro in law had the American breakfast. He's harder to please and was content with his meal. His only complaint was he probably should t have eaten all of that hah The family is super friendly and accommodated us since we had a baby with is. This is a fun family run restaurant. The staff is largely family or friends of family. The restaurant is on the back side of the mall. If you are lucky there is a small parking lot across from the Bart parking. Otherwise you need to park in the main lot and walk between the buildings to the back. They have a nice outdoor area with umbrellas. The Yelp location is reasonably accurate. We had an order of beignets, two sides of fruit and a south of the border chili omelet with avocado, sour cream and salsa. All was good and the staff was very friendly. The price was reasonable. The omelet was good but a bit drier than the soft we ordered. All in all, a pleasant experience. We suggest you give Break your Fast a try. We will be back. read more

Good food. Probably the crispiest ( not burnt) home fries I have had, I always order extra crispy home fries in all brunch places, they seem to really get it. Service was fast, price was very decent. The only downside was the homeless camps around, I saw two homeless sharing their loots from the retail store right outside the restaurant. read more

Came here for brunch on a Saturday morning and it was pretty steady. We waited about 15 mins for a table. They have both indoor and outdoor seating. The patio is pretty large, but there is very limited seating out there. Make sure you check out their specials on a chalk board inside. It's to the left of the register. I had already ordered before I noticed they had chicken and waffles. One of their must order items is the beignets!! I think these live up to the hype. They're inexpensive and come out hot and fresh and covered in powdered sugar and glaze. The breakfast is so-so. I ordered their spam and eggs and I subbed the potatoes for fresh fruit. The spam could have used more time on the grill. It wasn't crispy enough. The staff is friendly and helpful. Even though they were busy, my coffee cup was never empty. My fast was broken indeed. I hadn't eaten dinner the night before, and was starving during my zoom church meeting Sunday morning. I thought to myself, "How great would it be if, after church, breakfast was waiting for me at my doorstep." So I sneakily ordered an Eggs Benedict and Banana Beignets during the meeting, and, lo and behold, it was waiting at my doorstep when my meeting was over. Definitely hit the spot! Solid breakfast spot for the price and portion! I love the family-ran business and very welcoming ambiance. Everything you order is exactly what you would expect it to be. Break Your Fast is walking distance from the Union City, so if your a morning commuter I would recommend this spot to grab some coffee and more! I order the basic breakfast which comes with two eggs, bacon and sour dough toast. My wife loves the beef teriyaki bowl with an over easy egg on top.
